larsul March 20th, 2009, 02:53 AM I think that NBA should rather make franchise in Mexico than in Europe. This arena could be used for Mexico City team in NBA, it would be great action , it would be
I dont think it is a good idea. I know we have 100 million mexicans who can cheer for a team however Mexico is not that pasionate for Basketball.
Plus the mexican peso is not stable enough to have a team and pay in dollars. Just recently it got devaluated more than 40%. will the 22,000 personas will pay the tickets in dollars? will the fans buy the official merchandise in dollars? I dont think so..
Jim856796 March 20th, 2009, 09:24 AM A new arena in Mexico City? I've never heard of that. If there is a newly-constructed arena in Mexico City, shouldn't it replace the existing Sports Palace Dome on the eastern side of Mexico City?
larsul March 20th, 2009, 09:53 PM Mexico City is so big it can have 3 arenas..
with 25 million people i think they can fill them up easily..

Oh no it'll take forever if they do it like that, jk:)
This is a great looking facility, hope there's a team that can occupy it. There has to be a basketball league in Mexico right?
miguelon March 30th, 2009, 07:14 AM Yes there is a Basketball league, but is not that good, and i dont think that can fill an arena this big.
But no worry, there are a lot of concerts. At the National Auditorium (11,000) you have sometimes 6-7 back to back presentations,of the same artist to meet the demand. (the record is about 30 presentations in a row)
Nikkodemo March 30th, 2009, 07:56 AM Simply awesome!!!

Jim856796 April 6th, 2009, 02:08 AM All of you are so hooked on this new arena that you forgot about the existing Juan Escutia Sports Palace on the east side of Mexico City, which was constructed for the 1968 Olympics and has a capacity of around 20,000

Jericho-79 June 14th, 2009, 11:02 PM When will this new arena be completed and open to the public? Have they projected a particular year yet?
I can't find any information on its estimated completion date. But I'm assuming that it's going to take a long while.

mexictoluca November 7th, 2009, 03:14 AM Arena Ciudad de México- Azcapotzalco, Mexico City
Capacity: 22,000
*note* made a mistake on the title, it's not 25,000 capacity.
This indoor sports/concert/entertainment arena will be located in the Azcapotzalco borough of Mexico City on the Avenida de las Granjas. Designed by world renowned architects, KMD Architects, this modern, high tech sports venue will cost around $300 million. It will have 126 luxury "Diamond Suites", a helipad, advanced LED screens on the exterior of the arena and parking space for around 5,000 cars.
The government of Mexico City is trying to attract more new opinions on Mexico City, which is the biggest city in the Americas and one of the biggest in the world, and to show that it has many things to offer, with already having the most world class musuems in the world than any other city, the most theaters, and IMAX screens than any other city.
The project is currently under construction and is expected to be completed by 2011.
Give your opinion on this project!:)

Benn December 18th, 2010, 11:13 PM It strikes me as quite a bit more interesting and unique than most anything we have built recently. We definitely build the fanciest arenas out there, although a lot of them (like the new Orlando Events Center for instance) are particularly beautiful, interesting or unique at the professional level anyway.

Yeah I agree with you. I think there is nothing to argue about the name, as you said it's a lot better, easier to understand, recognise and relate to than the name of someone we don't even know or care like what happened with Azteca and it's also a lot better than tv azteca arena or even worse like an arena that just opened in the U.S. (Louisville) and as nice as it is they had to choose KFC yum! arena as the name.
The name is perfect if you consider that most of the new arenas world wide have sponsored names. :)
Stockwell March 24th, 2011, 06:10 AM Arena Ciudad de México Chooses Daktronics for Integrated Super System
Daktronics Inc. announced today that it will provide an integrated LED super system including video, scoring and advertising displays for Arena Ciudad de México, México City. The arena is scheduled to open in the fall of 2011 with installation of the multi-million dollar Daktronics system beginning in the spring of 2011.
“The two key factors for us selecting Daktronics were quality and experience. Daktronics has a proven history of providing a superior product, with exceptional quality,” said Guillermo Garza, CFO of Avalanz and Director of the Arena Ciudad de México construction project.
Daktronics will design and manufacture displays for Arena Ciudad de México, including a large area display wrapping the facade of the building, two ribbon displays circling the inside of the arena and one of the world’s largest centerhung displays.
“With a project of this magnitude, the success was achievable due to great teamwork, great relationships, and a superior product,” said Kyle Isenberg, Sales, Daktronics. “Arena Ciudad de México will without exception, be a world class venue, with one of the largest centerhung systems in the world.”
The exterior of the building will feature a display spanning approximately 29 m high x 209 m wide (93’6” x 686’) utilizing PXS-125 ProPixel® LED stick elements. This unique technology will be mounted on the exterior of the building above an open-air concourse area. These full-color LED strips allow for great visibility and image clarity for those viewers in front of the display, while allowing those behind the display to see through it.
The centerhung configuration alone will include 12 LED video displays and will measure approximately 13.9 m high x 23.8 m wide (46’ x 78’), weighing approximately 68,000 kilograms (150,000 pounds). The two largest displays will have 10 mm pixel spacing and measure approximately 11.1 m high x 19.9 m wide (36’6” x 65’6”). There will also be two square displays on the ends of the rectangular centerhung and eight additional displays, two each on the top and bottom of each side of the structure. The displays will show dynamic live video, dazzling graphics, custom animation, full-color graphics and logos, up-to-the-minute sports statistics, timing and results information and more.
The main centerhung display will be raised and lowered using a permanently installed custom designed Vortek® hoist system from Daktronics. This system, which incorporates the latest in hoisting technology and safety, will be used to support the display at varying elevations depending on the venue’s needs.
Complementing the primary centerhung scoreboard will be two LED ribbon boards mounted on the interior fascia of the seating decks. The largest will measure more than 361 meters (1184’) in length and the second will extend over 181 meters (594’). Daktronics LED displays are extremely popular with fans and sponsors alike because of their ability to present exciting motion graphics and real time content, including in-game statistics, out-of-town scores, closed captioning information, animation and video clips.
Daktronics’ powerful new Show Control System will be front and center in the video control room. Its robust software suite allows users to design, edit and produce an endless variety of colorful digital content and instantly deliver clips to the displays throughout the venue.
Daktronics partnered with Publitronics, a México-based, company to provide a turnkey solution for Arena Ciudad de México. “The customer wanted a very reliable and robust system using the highest quality integrated products, which they were confident Daktronics and Publitronics could deliver,” said Constancio Leal, Owner, Publitronics. “Management and ownership of the venue were not willing to take a chance on an unproven overseas provider that had neither the commitment to quality nor the experience needed to deliver such a large scale integrated system. Daktronics and Publitronics were able to provide the turnkey solution the customer was looking for.”

larsul October 8th, 2011, 05:22 AM Or maybe the fastest constructions in America are in the USA???
It should be faster considering a Mexican worker earn less than the half of an US worker. Multiply it by a thousand and you can get an idea.
Reapvkz1 October 25th, 2011, 03:35 PM This is going fast!
One of the best arenas in the world I think!
Darloeye October 25th, 2011, 10:13 PM Yeah I am liking this Arena. Wonder if they are going to host some NHL/NBA Games ?
fermone04 October 26th, 2011, 04:31 AM ^^I'm pretty sure they will host NBA Games, the owner of this arena owns the 2nd network tv station in Mexico who by the way is the only network in Mexico that broadcast 'some' NBA Games, I'm pretty sure they will bring some NBA games, not quite sure about NHL Games but you never know, in regards the name I think arena azteka would of been nice, since we already have estadio azteka :lol:
MS20 October 26th, 2011, 04:51 AM Does Mexico have a big basketball team in Mexico City? Even if you bought over some NBA games, seems like it would still be consigned to hosting concerts mainly.

The owner of this stadium is planning a new league along with soccer/football clubs from the mexican league. Just like europe (Barcelona regal or Real Madrid) .. lets see what happens..
