Bobby3 March 21st, 2009, 09:08 AM I don't like basketball at football and soccer stadiums. It's awful.
I know they do it for the money, but it's so much better when the game is in a building meant for it.
Jim856796 March 21st, 2009, 09:58 AM I'd probably feel better if basketball at a football/soccer stadium had the court at the center of the field (around the 50-yard line). It would be bogus to have the court at one end of the stadium or the other.

No, the tournament is played at neutral site venues which often don't belong to the schools. Some are college arenas though.

Not really, the sight lines are better when the court is at one end. When it is in the middle, the stands are at suck a low angle and everything is too far away. Up until this year, most courts have been placed in one endzone in football stadiums.
And this is not the same thread, these are just the sites for this years NCAA tournament, which there are only 13 sites.
Bobby3 March 22nd, 2009, 09:14 AM I don't like it in the middle.
I know they get a ton of fans in and the seats are cheaper, but that's because seats in Ford Field are worth less than seats in, say, the Greensboro Coliseum.
Jim856796 March 22nd, 2009, 10:15 AM I hate having the court at the endzone. That configuration is stupid.
ryebreadraz March 22nd, 2009, 10:35 AM Basketball in a dome sucked when the court was in the endzone (I know because I attended the past 3 Final Fours), but with the court at midfield, it's going to be horrible x3.

All the KU fans who went to the Regionals in Detroit last year said the same thing; said it was like watching basketball through the wrong end of a telescope.
And Ford Field is probably as good as it gets.

Its the best configuration there is
massp88 March 22nd, 2009, 09:20 PM Playing basketball inside a football dome is terrible. The atmosphere is terrible and those sitting in the upper sections have terrible views.
Also, since the final 4 will only be played in cities that have domes, it limits the locations where the final 4 can be played. So major cities like Boston, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, etc. can't host. While second tier cities such as Tempe and Tampa do.
likasz March 22nd, 2009, 09:33 PM My friend from USA was at the match called "basketbowl" in 2003 which was organized by Michigan State University.Attendace more than 75.000.I can believe who it was possible to watch that match at the football stadium (if I remember it was ford field or something like that).

It also kills North Carolina and Kentucky, two traditional homes of college basketball.

Tampa?

Ah good call.
However, I dont think that its that bad that smaller markets get an opportunity to host large events. It really helps the economy. Im sure that Detroit is quite relieved that they get to host a major sporting event with their poor economy- obviously thats going to help them out a little.

I just think its completely kills the entire notion and feel of college basketball. You go from playing games in smaller gyms (not by capacity, but overall size) with awesome atmosphere to 60,000 seat domes. I guess that's what happens when the NCAA wants to maximize their profit, who can blame them.
westsidebomber March 25th, 2009, 12:15 AM Here's the location of one of the baskets at Lucas Oil Stadium, which will host the Midwest Regionals this weekend.
