the criminality and traffic low may help too, not to mention the low pollution.

That's it! I could not think of it! :D

Providing lots of mass transit cuts down on road traffic which cuts down on pollution which increases life expectancy!

All of my cities are now with a life expectancy over 80 and a big number of cities have a L. E. above 90.

I decided mine were all living long boring lives so I sent a giant robot through their city and sprouted a few volcanos, that seemed to do the trick:angel:

Anyone watch the movie Volcano? It was on TV a week ago here and I was wondering how cool it could be if:
1. Lava would flow through the subways and spurt out at stations/vents.
2. If you could channel the lava and "save" your city.
3. If your Sims could just melt in the lava like the guy in the subway.

:D

[end stupid worthless post]

... do Sims actually die? It seems to me that they enter the city at a specific age and never seem to age at all, looking at my population by age graph. Surely it can't remain nearly identical for several game decades?

If you look at the map (not the graph) then you can see old people and young people. If you go in super speed you can see the colors slowly change over time. Other than that, the graph will only change a bit. Also, if you put sims in they will die off. ;)

Yeah, the research lab does help out quite a bit. Ever since I built it my sims have been living into their late 80's.
