ARCHITECT: Kohn Pedersen Fox Assoc/ Recio + Casas Architects

The GT International Tower was designed for a key site at the entry corner to Makati's primary commercial street, Ayala Avenue. The tower volume is composed of a series of taut glass panes which form a spiral, culminating in a faceted crown which marks the corner and forms the end of the avenue's street wall. This plane is lifted up at the building's base to reveal a plaza at the corner, where the structural columns emerge from beneath the tower's curtain wall to frame a canted plane at the 3rd level. Visitors to the main lobby can view the activity at street level through this plane, which is located at the top of the lobby escalators.
The dominant surface of the tower is pulled away from the building's central volume at the intersection of Ayala Avenue and De La Costa Street, creating a vertical fissure in the tower's surface that provides a glimpse of the inner volume. A 10-storey vertical fin marks the tower's presence on the Makati skyline and provides a visual signature at the tower's crown.

Yeah, what book is that? Must be recent coz G.T is very new!:) Completed late 2001.

This is my favorite building in the Philippines!!!!! 10/10!!!!!:D

It is the second tallest in the country.:)

It's tall, glassy and edgy. But all of that glass also makes it look cheap and a bit impersonal, almost intimidating. I generally prefer buildings that somehow attempt to relate to the human scale.

8.5/10, and maybe I should have given it a 9....

Of course, I like the sleek glass curtain walls that dance with the light; then there are the knife-sharp, precise angles of the indentations, and the way the roof seems to slice into the skyline - not to mention the light stone around the edges that provides a nice contrast - everything seems to flow together nicely...

However....Jasonhouse, that's a good point about the impersonal, intimidating effect - which brings up the only nit i'd pick- a set back or two or three might have made it a bit less intimidating, perhaps?

And if I really wanted to get picky , :D I could suggest that our polls have two or three ratings, to cover not just looks, but things like how well each 'scraper might relate to the people who use it, and to its environment. That sort of thing might be hard to judge, though, if you hadn't seen the building in question....

i was wondering why it was in the top 200, and then looked for it again only to find out it was out of the top 200...

just one little bit of info for some people. GT has a high IT status and is one of the most technologically advanced building in the Philippines. It has very high speed internet, just like RCBC.

Love the little horizontal strips running up the building. Very sleek and stylish, that's big points in my book. The obvious shape of the windows appearing on the facade reminds me a bit too much of 80's though.

Hey i saw a picture of G.T.Tower where it was a little bit damaged near the roof of the tower! The facade looks a little bit wasted!!!!??? iS it maybe from milenyo???? Hmmm.... but still not corrected right!?

Good. Sleek shape and facade. I like the ground floor entrance and the night lighting too. I would have like it to be a bit taller with a couple of setbacks.
