That building will stand out for better or worse...

it's actually not all that bad...at least the structure is pretty handsome so the blue would hold up quite nicely.

PELABURAN Hartanah Bumiputera Bhd (PHBB), syarikat milik penuh Yayasan Amanah Hartanah Bumiputera (YAHB) membeli bangunan Menara Bumiputra-Commerce Bumiputra-Commerce Holdings Bhd (BCHB) pada harga RM460 juta.

Bangunan setinggi 39 tingkat di tapak seluas kira-kira satu hektar di Jalan Raja Laut, Kuala Lumpur itu akan disewakan kepada CIMB Bank Bhd untuk dijadikan ibu pejabat barunya apabila ia siap pada Ogos tahun depan.



Tempoh sewaan itu adalah selama 10 tahun dengan opsyen melanjutkannya selama lima tahun lagi selepas itu.

Perjanjian pembelian dan sewaan itu dimeterai PHBB dengan BCHB dan CIMB Bank di Kuala Lumpur, semalam.

Pada majlis itu, PHBB diwakili Pengarah Urusan dan Ketua Eksekutifnya, Kamalul Arifin Othman, BCHB oleh Pengarah Eksekutifnya, Datuk Mohd Shukri Hussin, manakala CIMB Bank Bhd oleh Pengarah Eksekutifnya, Tengku Ahmad Burhanuddin.

Ia disaksikan Menteri Kewangan Kedua, Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop.

Turut hadir, Pengerusi BCHB, Tan Sri Md Nor Md Yusof dan Ketua Eksekutif Kumpulan CIMB, Datuk Nazir Razak.

BCHB adalah syarikat induk kepada CIMB Group.

Berucap pada majlis itu, Mohd Shukri berkata, penjualan bangunan itu bertujuan meningkatkan kecekapan penggunaan modal kumpulan dengan mengurangkan pemilikan harta fizikal.

"Sebagai kumpulan perbankan dan kewangan, strategi kami adalah mengurangkan jumlah harta sebaliknya menggunakan modal secara cekap dalam perniagaan teras," katanya.

Beliau berkata, perancangan pembinaan bangunan itu yang dibuat tiga tahun lalu bertujuan menempatkan semua kegiatan perniagaan perbankan runcit kumpulan di bawah satu bumbung bagi menggantikan ibu pejabat CIMB Bank di Jalan Tun Perak, Kuala Lumpur.

Langkah itu, katanya, dapat menjimatkan bayaran sewaan berjumlah RM7.5 juta setahun.

"CIMB Bank juga akan mendapatkan semula modal berjumlah RM3.6 bilion daripada penjualan dan kemudian menyewa semula bangunan itu yang akan dilaburkan dalam perniagaan teras kumpulan," katanya.

yeah... this is really quite a beautiful building... i quite like it. it'll definitely stand out in it's location, with its blue color and it's glassy facade.

i really like this project. the construction is super fast, and they waste no time in doing the interior as well as the facade even though the core is still being constructed. save time, thus save money. way to go ijm!

It was not always that fast. This project was introduced exactly 4 years ago and is probably not ready until end of this year.

yeah, although it was introduced 4 years ago, a bulk of the time was probably on approvals, paper works, planning, foundational works, etc. etc. i agree it was slow when it started, but when the construction above the surface started (i think around early 06), the building shot up like nobody's business!

compare to many other buildings, i would say it's moving quite nicely now.

i think its true i remember i read somewhere that cimb bank sold the building en-bloc, together with their another building in kl sentral (not sure but there's another building) to amanah raya.

TM tower in bangsar and their new office in cyberjaya also sold to other parties that has nothing to do with the company.

I think CIMB and TM do this building consolidation to focus their asset close to their business. But it's too complex to analyze i believe it's the way to do it today, selling their office and lease it back.

CIMB Tower in LOT A, KL SENTRAL

It is a partnership between MRCB and CIMB-Mapletree Real Estate Fund 1 in the development of a 34 storey office tower on a parcel of prime land at KL Sentral, which will be the home for CIMB headquarters.

"When CIMB becomes the anchor tenant here, the focus will be on developing the financial services centre. We are talking to other financial institutions to move here as well in order to create some form of concentration here," .

Awaiting DBKL approval for escalator repairs

SEVERAL regular LRT users are disappointed that the escalator leading up to the Bandaraya station on the Ampang Line is out of service.

Regular user Patrick Tan said he was in Kuala Lumpur with his friends and noted that the escalator, which is located across the road from the Sogo shopping complex, was not working when they wanted to use it.

“We guessed that it was either out of order or had not been commissioned yet. However, the escalator looked more like it was out of order.

“What is the point of building something if the authority concerned does not get it working?” asked Tan, 60.

Making a site visit, StarMetro saw that the escalator had been cordoned off with tape.

Commuters who wanted to board the LRT were seen taking the flight of stairs instead.

When contacted, RapidKL communication general manager Ebi Azly Abdullah said the escalator area had been cordoned off for about a year due to the construction work at Jalan Esfahan.

“The escalator was subsequently damaged due to its proximity to the construction area and although it is technically not under the jurisdiction of RapidKL, we will do the necessary repairs once we get approval from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL),” Ebi Azly said in a statement.

“The repairs will take between two weeks and three months, depending on the availability of spare parts. If we do not receive a response within our stipulated timeline, we’ll proceed with the repair works,” he said.

the Menara CIMB Bank will house the retail banking operations of CIMB

the one coming up at KL Sentral will house the investment operations: CIMB Investment Bank

(Note: CIMB is pretty scattered currently. Their current hq is at Damansara Heights and they recently fully took over the Amanahraya building there. They also operate Menara Commerce near Masjid Jamek.)

Agong Opens Menara Bumiputra-Commerce




KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 (Bernama) -- The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, Wednesday opened the Menara Bumiputra-Commerce at the intersection of Jalan Raja Laut and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

Present were the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Nur Zahirah, and Datuk Bandar of Kuala Lumpur Datuk Ahmad Fuad ismail.

The Menara Bumiputra-Commerce will serve as the headquarters for commercial banking, franchises of CIMB Group, CIMB Bank and CIMB Islamic.

" The building located on a one hectare site was chosen partly to preserve the bank's historical link to the area," CIMB Group chief executive Datuk Seri Nazir Razak said in his speech.

Construction work began in October 2004 and ended in early 2009.

Its architecture is inspired by the geometrical shape of the exotic tropical " Heliconia Caribea" plant and is intended to be distinctively identifiable by its unique structural form.

The Menara Bumiputra-Commerce, which cost RM400 million, was constructed by IJM Corp Bhd. It began in October 2004 and was completed early this year.

It will serve as the headquarters for commercial banking, franchises of CIMB Group, CIMB Bank and CIMB Islamic.

Nazir said the investment banking and capital market arm would be located in Menara CIMB, which was still under construction in Kuala Lumpur Sentral.

He said construction was expected to be completed in 2012.

Nazir said today also marked the completion of CIMB Group's multi-year branch re-branding exercise.

"South-East Asia's largest retail network of 1,150 branches across Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand have now all assumed the CIMB icon, its red and green colours and consistent branch look and feel," he said.

On why the headquarters was launched today, Nazir said that, "Today''s date, 9-9-2009, is historic on its own."

In addition, he said today is "day one" for CIMB to be rebranded as a listed holding company.

With the historic name "Bumiputra-Commerce" safely enshrined on this new landmark of Kuala Lumpur, Bumiputra-Commerce Holdings Bhd is renamed CIMB Group Holdings Bhd and its shares trade as "CIMB" on Bursa Malaysia, as of today.

This name change completes CIMB's multi-year brand harmonisation for all corporate entities within the group across Southeast Asia.

"From Chiang Rai to Bali, our 36,000 employees now answer to customers as one CIMB," said Nazir.


So rupa rupanya this building on Jln Raja Laut will retain the old name = Menara Bumiputera-Commerce (for CIMB Bank), whereas the future Menara CIMB (for CIMB Investment Bank) will be in KL Sentral.

KUALA LUMPUR 9 Sept. - Kumpulan CIMB melabur RM480 juta untuk membangunkan Menara Bumiputra-Commerce yang terletak di Jalan Raja Laut dan Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

Peruntukan itu membabitkan kos pembinaan sebanyak RM400 juta dan RM80 juta lagi bagi hiasan dalaman.

Menara itu kemudian dijual dan dipajak semula daripada Pelaburan Hartanah Bhd.

Menara Bumiputra-Commerce yang terletak antara Jalan Raja Laut dan Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman itu dibina di atas kawasan seluas satu hektar, menempatkan sayap perbankan komersialnya iaitu CIMB Bank dan CIMB Islamic dengan 4,000 kakitangannya.

Hari ini, Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin telah berkenan untuk merasmikan bangunan tersebut dengan diiringi Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Nur Zahirah.

Ketua Eksekutif CIMB, Datuk Seri Nazir Razak berkata, hari ini merupakan hari bersejarah kepada kumpulan perbankan komersial yang kedua selepas Malayan Banking Bhd. kerana menjadikan Menara Bumiputra-Commerce sebagai salah satu bangunan yang menjadi mercu tanda Kuala Lumpur.

Menurut beliau, meskipun CIMB telah selesai melakukan penjenamaan ke atas Kumpulan CIMB, tetapi nama asal itu akan terus dipahat menerusi nama-nama bangunan miliknya.

Selain Menara Bumiputra-Commerce, Kumpulan itu turut memiliki Menara SBB di Damansara dan Menara Ban Hin Lee di Pulau Pinang.

Menara CIMB yang bakal dibangunkan di KL Sentral pula akan menempatkan operasi perbankan pelaburan dan pasaran modal pada 2012.

Hari ini juga amat bermakna kerana selain perasmian menara ini, 9 September juga merupakan hari pertama penjenamaan penyenaraian syarikat kepada CIMB Group Holdings Bhd. di Bursa Malaysia.

Beliau berkata, malah hari ini juga menandakan penyelesaian proses penjenamaan rangkaiannya sebanyak 1,500 cawangan di Asia Tenggara termasuk Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapura dan Thailand.

''Perubahan nama ini menyelesaikan penjenamaan entiti Kumpulan ini yang merentasi Asia Tenggara,'' katanya di sini.

^^ The one at Sentral is CIMB Investment HQ, currently scattered around the Damansara area, the purpose of the new one at KL Sentral is to house all dept. in one house.

Weirdly huh Dengilo, this tower might not even exist if the 97' crisis never strike, if it wasn't for the recession today the SOGO Pernas Tower will be standing tall at this site!

With u know who is in charge, easy money for them!!Remember not only the tower block for sogo it was to be the Areobus station!i also remember it was to start from the old KL Plaza!
