Four Seasons Hotel & Tower
Miami, USA

HEIGHT: 240m/787 feet
FLOORS: 64 floors
COMPLETION: 2002
ARCHITECT: Gary Edward Handel & Associates/ Bermello, Ajamil & Partners

Situated one block from Biscayne Bay, the Four Seasons Hotel & Tower is the tallest structure in the southeastern United States and Miami's first true mixed-use urban residential building. This landmark destination integrates a five-star hotel with luxury residential condominiums, timeshare units, a fitness facility, and Class A office space into a 64-story concrete frame.

The tower is clad in a glass and metal skin, and the low-rise podium containing the parking garage is stone and pre-cast panels. This base acts as an elevated ground plane, with retail uses enlivening the surrounding streets. Amenities include a 65,000 SF roof terrace designed by landscape architect Dan Kiley.

Certainly dominates its part of the skyline. I like hotels or apartment buildings that look more like sleek office towers.

Nice tall box. 8

I love my city's newest and tallest!!..it is a very sleek and slender tower with beautiful blue/green glass...although we don't have a 1,000 foot tower it's height is amazing...it dominates the skyline!!
by the way the FAA kept the height below 800 feet....here is a construction pic (courtesy of havok) and a rendering....9/10

It's very handsome, not ugly at all, but on the other hand it doesn't stand out in any particular way from any number of other similar buildings. I guess that throws it right in the middle: 5!

Its nice and slim and does wonders for Miami's skyline. But compared to the other buildings here, 7.5 is a pretty good score.

8/10 - It's a box, but it's sleek, with good height - it's tall enough to keep the broad side from looking too chunky. And the curtain glass facade really dances with the light, plus it has a nice color and two contrasting sections.
THe roof, however, is not that good - no imagination. And I'm not sure how well the base relates to the tower..

Bobdreamz
November 22nd, 2002, 06:06 AM
wow...even 800 ft. buildings are barely making it into the top 100!
we went from #89 to #95!!

D-Mac
November 22nd, 2002, 06:36 AM
Yup, after we updated the top 100 list we found that the skyscrapers.com list was missing quite a few buildings, even though those buildings were still in their database. All of the missing ones are in Chinese cities, unsurprisingly. It won't be long before this one is bumped off the top 100 by buildings nearly complete, most of which are in... you guessed it, China!

As for the Four Seasons, it's decent, nice façade, good proportions, but nothing extraordinary. 7.0/10

The tower looks odd in Miami. Miami doesn't really have any tall buildings and they set this one in the middle of nothing. It looks out of place standing up so high by itself. But you've gotta start sometime eh? The Westin looked out of place in Atlanta when it got built, but downtown filled in and it's fine now.
I give ups to Miami for being bold and starting to build up finally. The tower looks awesome! I don't like boxes one bit, but this is different! It is a glass box! A very slim, TALL glass box! Yummy!

The Four Seasons Hotel & Tower gets a 10 outta 10! There is nothing bad I can say about this building, it's all perfect!

Bobdreamz
April 24th, 2003, 09:02 PM
jonathan I would have to agree with you to a certain extent...the Wachovia is Miami's symbolic skyscraper but I would add the Espirito Santos Plaza as Miami's newest iconic skyscraper as well....the Four Seasons is imposing with it's height & slimness but doesn't overwhelm the streetscape like most buildings of it's size normally do....here's another pic I took from Brickell Avenue with the end of the Metromover Financial district line....

http://images2.fotki.com/v18/photos/4/49153/200650/MiamiPics071-or.jpg

jonathan
April 25th, 2003, 05:30 AM
No way Bob! I mean don't take me wrong, I think the Espirito Santo Plaza is gorgeous, and it is a great addition to Miami, but I don't think it is Iconic; first, because of its height it doesn't "shine" in the Miami skyline, and second because the best-looking side of the building is facing towards the inside of the city instead of the bay, where the skyline is best viewed...the bad part about the facade's orientation is that the many under-construction highrises in Brickell are gonna soon block out Espirto Santo...anyways for me, Miami's icon is and will be for a long time the Wachovia Financial Center, followed closely by the Bank of America Tower at International Place

Bobdreamz
April 25th, 2003, 06:04 AM
jonathan Espirito Santos is iconic....height isn't everything, besides it's only 13 feet or basically one floor from being a 500 footer..( I don't know why they just didn't add another floor and make it 500 feet!)...have you gone downtown and stood in front of it?....it's a truly remarkable building...as for the facade even if they did the same to the side facing the bay nobody would ever see it because there is the 37 story South Bayshore Tower highrise going up right next to it and across the street from that is the Jade at Brickell...our next 500 footer which is under construction as we speak...I think the developers were well aware that those views would be blocked from the bay anyway....I do agree that Wachovia is still Miami's signature skyscraper for now....we'll just have to wait & see what the 72 story One Miami tower is going to look like!

Four Seasons is a very nice building. But it needed to have been a bit more creative. Wachovia is still the best 'round these parts.

Nice, but nothing special. I like the color, and the shape and size is ok, it fits well at street level. I dont like the top, or the "extension" of it that runs to the bottom. Still, this building captures the sea without the being overly "tropical" and colorful like a lot of miami buildings.

7.5/10. IMO Miami's skyline is excellent in these parts; kicks ass out of the other Florida counterpart skyliens cause they're weak as hell. Four Seasons is a good addtion to MIA, but loses points for an uncentralized location (10 blocks south of the center of town), and for being too boxy except the glass.

At first I thought the building was unfinished before I realized that the missing strips of glass are actually balconies. And what with the transition from the bottom part cladding to the top part cladding ? It is rather brutal. Also, I don't think that the icy colors really fit the location.

The facade looks simple but really high-tech at the same time. It is truly a lovable tower. 8/10

This is a mixed use building, I stayed at the Hotel a couple of weeks ago. Its elegant, tall, and the views are breath taking. I give a 9 Interior wise and 8 Exterior wise. I love the glass color. Its just soo Miami.

it's got some nice features going on but they played safe and ended up with a not so interesting box. the grayish tint didn't help.

but i really like the smooth curves on one side. 8/10

Beautiful and because it is my city's tallest I feel obligated to vote it high, but I really do love it. I think it's simple but extremely elegant. I also love that although it is part hotel and residential it doesn't look it, and I love that. I also love the office base. Really nice.
