This is another great example of the finest Pelli's work. Those set-backs, Glassy Facade-details, Phenomenon Crown and the Uniqueness mark this tower as one of the best exuberance state of art sculpture in the world. Not only it's shape, but also it's location that destinated it to world class Glorious.
Furthermore, It does looks somelike 2 International Financial Center in Hongkong, only set-back and facade does, the shape is totally differrent; The foot print is some what twice bigger and the height is twice shorter. But yet, both are the twins of the future Architectural landmark of The Planet Earth..........

the top better not be black like in those photos though. it could just ruin the whole building.

Now wait, everyone's going from just what they see in the picture, which isn't the full picture. It's not the only tall building there, the picture only shows the Liberty View Towers and the smaller Colgate Buildings.
http://img54.photobucket.com/albums/v166/AliasWK/Web_Jersey_City_Skyline.jpg
and it looks stubby because the picture's slightly wider than it is in reality,
http://img54.photobucket.com/albums/v166/AliasWK/Goldman_Sachs_and_Liberty_View_East.jpg
because I know the smaller colgate buildings are a little less wide.
http://img54.photobucket.com/albums/v166/AliasWK/Standard_Colgate.jpghttp://img54.photobucket.com/albums/v166/AliasWK/imag0048.jpghttp://img54.photobucket.com/albums/v166/AliasWK/Web_Picture_044.jpg
It's currently accompanied by a few low and mid-rise offices ranging from 10 stories to buildings in the high 400s and high 500s.
http://img54.photobucket.com/albums/v166/AliasWK/exchangeplaces2001.jpg
And while at a perspective it's next to ground level yet-to-be-built lots, and Liberty Park,
it's soon going to be accompanied by some neighbors
http://img54.photobucket.com/albums/v166/AliasWK/77hudsonwithbackgrd2.jpg
(Just a rendition despite how realistic it looks)
http://img54.photobucket.com/albums/v166/AliasWK/77hudsoninjc.jpg
And the skyline is currently comprised of other tall buildings too.
http://img54.photobucket.com/albums/v166/AliasWK/You_Know_Where.jpg
http://img54.photobucket.com/albums/v166/AliasWK/MHEGS.jpg
And they too have tall plans for the future

The Stats
Height: 781 ft/238 m
Floors: 42
Actually, I believe the height is significantly taller than that. I believe it's a good bit up into the 800's. Maybe around 850 or so? Also, there are 40 usable floors (the 40th being a double height huge 20' high windows space that has yet to be fit out and looks to be vacant in the forseable future) There is a mechanical floor above that (41) and then the roof / crown above that (42). Above that, there is a level at the base of the cooling towers (43 if you want to call it that). Another level up and you're at the exhaust fans of the cooling towers (44 maybe). After that, you have another two or three flights of stairs above that to the track of the window washing rig.
To address some other posts I've seen, there are no remaining "Colgate" buildings. Across the street to the west is the Liberty Towers and they are approximately 27 floors. To the north across from the Goldman parking deck is Lehman Bros (formerly Datek Online) Further up the street there are several other large buildings (the largest of which is Merril Lynch - 90 or 101 Hudson Street (can't remember))
Here's an interesting fact... the site used to be a manufacturing plant for Colgate/Palmolive. When it rains hard, soap bubbles can be seen on the pavement all around the site :)

Funny how everyone says this building resembles 2IFC, but shorter and fatter.... it's much easier to just say that the building resembles 1IFC, period. :)
I personally think the tower is alright, and fits well into Jersey city, although it's a recycled design. I'm just glad Pelli didn't put claws on top of it. 7.5

Very nice! Love this style of bldg- along w/1&2 IFC. Perhaps a darker color? Would've like to have seen a nite shot tho. Hopefully the crown lights up from the inside- would be quite dramatic I'm sure and add to the evening skyline significantly. Prominent place right on the water. Who knows... maybe Jersey City will have a huge skyscraper boom in the next century. I could see this one fitting perfectly into a massive skyline as well instead of dominating it.

Momph. I gave this building a 6, but that's probably too high, so I regret my vote. It's a so-so joint, not very high nor very distinguished. The slightly unusual shape doesn't pull it out of the norm, nor does the treatment of the windows.

I really don't like this one at all. It may be good for Jersey City, but it most certainly would not look good anywhere else.. 5/10.

i love this building. i think its very modern and sophisticated, and obviously it does wonders for jersey city's skyline. it reminds me of a smaller version of 2 international finance centre in HK.

That was my first impresion to. :)
Still I would love a Half 2IFC in my town (tallest building now 74m)
