well well well i personly am not a fan of the Taipei 101 one bit. i think that the bottom of it is to narrow and even though it doest it looks like it gets wider near the top with i cant stand and it green! but still it tall so i think that it should be commended for that at least.

Amazing building, and love how it's traditional looking to the culture. New Years celebrations alone earn it a 10, but it's a 10 just on being a great building... :)

we could makeit a green box.........but then you'd give it a 10

trust me. your IQ is too low to figure out how I'd rate a building.

but given your bad taste and eccentric standard, I'll bet your rating for this tower will be 11/10 or higher if a few fires break out in different parts of the building and the damage is left unrepaired. I'm sure it will satsify your criteria of being "different"?

mysteek_1976
February 2nd, 2007, 09:04 PM
oh yeah i love the scorched look........but you haven't declared what you like because no matter how much you dress up a box it's still a box. predictable, unispiring, and played out just like you...........

stick that in your crack pipe and smoke:tongue:

unlike you I don't smoke crack, not even cigarettes. that's one reason why my IQ is so much higher than yours and I intend to keep it that way

no comment on your irrelevant babbling about boxes.

now that you've told us how you love buildings to be "scorched" or "different", may I suggest that you learn to love a different way of life .... behind bars in the big house? I guarantee you it'll more than satisfy your criteria of being "different". feel free to go there and make yourself proud.

it's quite easy. just pull out your crack pipe and smoke next time you run into a cop. heck, you love being different so why not pull into a police station and smoke in their face. of course I'm talking about laws in the U.S. maybe things are a bit different over there in Australia. well, there're more than one way to use your crack pipe. improvise.

I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I want to ask people why they hate the top of the building? I think it goes quite well with the rest of the building, at least some thought was given to it, and they didn't just plant a pole there.

Is it just one of those things where you hate it and don't know why?

I gave 5 points. It's not worthy to be the WTB imo.

And what especially bothers me, that it destroys any kinda existing "skyline" in Taipei - looks like it is the only skyscraper in that town O.o It would have fit much better to Shanghai or HongKong probably. In that position it has kinda "Eiffel-Tower-look" to me, and that isn't what a skyscraper should create, I think... ;)

Taipei 101's such a magnificent building. Its design is certainly east meets west, a very advanced building which incorporates very traditional Taiwanese elements, yet its design is graceful and appealing. I'd rather this than any silver cold metallic building elsewhere.

Its certainly a great landmark for Taipei, and because nothing blocks it its so much better to appreciate it.

I don't like too this building.

It is too cubic and it's the same architecture on all the sides.

I puts 6.5 nevertheless because it is modern and rather high.;)

Ah but as Le Corbusier said, the only "true" architecture is cubes, pyramids, cylinders, and cones.

However, I'm not a fan either...and honestly, I think that may be because the building looks completely out of place and scale to the rest of the city (to the point it's a little obnoxious and flamboyant).

7/10 - a great design that really fits the culture of Taiwan. I would have given it more but the area the tower is in is a bit disjointed from the rest of Taipei, and the exterior paint was already peeling only a year after completion. Tough to keep the facade spotless in the Taipei climate, I know, but it is a pretty important building.

Slogan decided for Taipei 101 fireworks show

2008 love TAIWAN

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Organizers of the annual New Year's Eve fireworks show surrounding Taipei's landmark 101 Tower unveiled yesterday the slogan to be displayed during the 188-second show: "2008 love TAIWAN."

The announcement put an end to a month-long argument between Taipei City and the Executive Yuan (cabinet), which had the final say on the controversy.

Last week, the president of Taipei Financial Center Corp. -- the company responsible for managing the 101 building -- said that the slogan to be displayed on New Year's Eve would be a "surprise."

As a result, local media engaged in fierce speculation about controversial slogans that could be used by the government during the fireworks show.

"We have decided to release the slogan in order to end the controversy," said Chiang Shih-hwang, chief secretary of the Bureau of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA).

Organizers explained that the NT$31 million budget for the show will be shared by China Telecom, the MOEA and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications.

They also said there will be a "little twist" to the word "Taiwan" in that the "i" will be lower case, while the dot will be in the shape of a heart to symbolize "I love Taiwan."

Following the New Year's Eve countdown, up to 12,000 fireworks will be launched one after another -- as high as 508 meters -- up the sides of the building for a 188-second show that the tourism official said will be "spectacular."

The tourism official added that it might be the last occasion to use slogans during such shows as the empty offices in the 101 Tower might be insufficient for use next year.

Though the temperature is expected to be about 7 degrees Celsius - the coldest this winter - the event is expected to attract 600,000 spectators.

this is the current world tallest building...the only building now reaches over 500m tall (509m)...absolutely tall....including the 60m spire....

this applies all the Chinese traditional concepts on it....the design is unique....only the architect in Taiwan can design something like tiz...so special....i have been to here before...looking to it...nice....good looking...

every people have different point of view..some may like it, some may dislike it...but i like tiz...pretty much...it is an engineering marvel too...it is built on a danger zone of earthquake and typhoon...this building is so stable eventhough it is so tall....

Maybe it could have a friend someday living as a neighbour possibly another supertall? :)

i think this is a really great building because it is very iconic, and such buildings are meant to be timeless landmarks. unlike most modern supertalls that tend to be boxy or built in a circular-shape, this building is really memorable, imo like the chrysler building.

Nice Design, but some improvements could be made.

The Bottom trapezium could be stretched further, and the spire may be a little TOO thick.

Disgusting colour.
