Just watched a great tv documentary about Taipei 101 over here in the UK on the BBC. Some might find it simplistic, but I thought it fascinating. It showed the damper thingy and explained how it all worked together with the construction method and even how they got the concrete up there. Oh and the braking system for the lifts.

I voted a 9/10. Its among the best supertalls, yet the surroundings leave more to be desired...

An interesting piece of architecture, no doubt about that, but I feel that other skyscrapers are much more beautiful than this one, which capitalizes on its height to promote itself (as do all the other supertalls). Taipei 101 is quite a lonely tower lost in that huge city. Too bad it's the only 500 m+ in Taipei !

From an engineering standpoint, Taipei 101 is probably the most impressive tower ever designed. Earthquakes? Typhoons? Easy as pie! Just build a giant stalk of bamboo!

It is a very innovative building, plus it's height and presence are indisputable. But the facade, shape and position in the skyline are a letdown. Never the less it deserves a 8,5/10!

There are amazing aspects of it (not just in exterior design) but on the inside as well. Plus, the building in an engineering feat in itself designed to with stand typhoons, earthquakes and a few other natural disasters in the mix.

Plus, it's a powerful symbol of the strong economy of Taiwan. :)

And on a sidenote, the people of Xinyi district have felt the positive effects as well. :)

The scale is awesome, The speed of the elevators is amazing and the construction techniques are to be applauded. The aesthetics are not so good. I dont see how this can really be compared to a pagoda. The colour does not look deep enough and the motifs the ornament is gimmicky. Apart from the height there isn't much to be had here.

I gave it an 8/10 for its height and technological advancements. However, I think that the aesthetics of the building leaves a lot to be desired. I think the design looks a bit caricature-ish. Just my $.02.

This building really dominates the skyline of Taipei. Is there any building even half it's height in the city? All I can see is a bunch of 100 meter high-rise apartment buildings lol.

I like Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia and Taipei 101 the most. 8/10

This is a a great skyscraper, I like the fact that it is divided into sections, Have a weak memory that it means something, but I cant remember exactly what.

I am impressive with this high-tech building, but I do not like the aesthetics of it. 7/10

A supertall should not be designed in the image of a traditional building, buildings should be designed with their capabilities taken into account.

This is the most underwhelming supertall imo. It was Sears Tower until this one came along. The tower isn't graceful in any way. The tower doesn't taper of nicely. The change is too drastic. The shade of green isn't pleasing to the eyes. The circle design is tacky too. But I applaud the sheer height of the tower and the advance technological features of this supertall.
