View Full Version : Favourite TV shows?
odlum833 April 10th, 2009, 08:43 PM What are your favourite TV shows? Mine would be probrably Fawlty Towers, Father Ted and the Simpsons (earlier episodes, it's kind of crap these last few years). Think Fawlty Towers is hillarious. What's good about it too is they only made 12 episodes or something. Most shows go on too long. I like comedies and think they are three of the best.
J4mesMcK April 10th, 2009, 11:32 PM Fawlty Tower was excellent.
I know it's not everyone's cup of tea (definitely not for the easily offended), but right now I can't get enough of South Park. The episodes are usually pretty topical, and nobody does a parody like South Park, they really don't care who they offend. They ripped Kanye West and his massive ego so much this week I couldn't stop laughing. Their episode on the economy the other week was pretty funny too.
I watched Ross Kemp in Afghanistan and found it pretty interesting. He got into some pretty intense situations, and it increased my respect for the bravery of the armed forces even more, if that was possible.

lol! Is that still going!? Have'nt seen it in years.
Closer to home Podge and Rodge use to be good when they tore to shreds z list celebrities. It's gone a bit flat though in recent years. Still it's a bit of a laugh.
PB-1888 April 24th, 2009, 07:56 PM Anyone been watching the Wire?
odlum833 April 24th, 2009, 07:59 PM I have'nt anyway - any good?
PB-1888 April 24th, 2009, 08:17 PM No other drama comes close. It has more depth than many a good novel. Takes a while though to tune your ears to the West Baltimore slang, but well worth it.

Sex and the City was excellent early on, but I got bored with it. Never bothered seeing the movie. Haven't heard of most of your list. Messiah? Rome? What are they about?
The West Wing must be one of the all time greats ok. Friends became much more annoying than SATC.
I generally think though that British drama is rubbish compared to the American stuff. Cracker being an exception.

Really?
I don't like it- it's too twee etc. There's sometimes a good episode, but even when they cover modern things they mess it up a bit by making it all 'too perfect'; all for show and the TV as you would expect I suppose.
hovis June 4th, 2010, 03:13 AM Television died when the Professionals ended.... :(
Conor June 4th, 2010, 06:24 PM Best show ever:

hypnotoad24 June 9th, 2010, 02:07 AM Shows i've been watching loads recently:
The Thick Of It- an absolutely tremendous show, worthy of all it's recent Bafta awards. And the film, In The Loop, is awesome too.
House
Doctor Who- the new series has been the best in a long, long time.
South Park- still hilarious after 14 series, and easily the best animated sitcom on tv.
Blackadder
Arrested Development- a great American comedy sadly cancelled after 3 series
Total Wipeout- hilarious. Chair in the air?
Come Dine With Me.

I wasn't sure to start off with. The new theme annoyed me and various other things. However I have been enjoying it and the new theme has also grown on me.
ill tonkso June 11th, 2010, 01:45 AM I am enjoying it, but I cant bring myself to like the new theme. It doesn't have the power and soul the old one did.
belfastuniguy June 11th, 2010, 02:13 AM ^^
Oh I don't like it as much as the previous, but have grown on me, as has the logo, esp as it spins and turns into the box.
niterider June 11th, 2010, 07:55 PM Cannot STAND the new sidekick or whatever she is....cringeworthy voice
hovis June 12th, 2010, 12:25 AM Nah, I don't like the new Dr Who.
An actor should at least be out of nappies before he plays the part :)

I like her!
niterider June 13th, 2010, 12:52 PM I like her!
boo!
hypnotoad24 June 14th, 2010, 10:40 PM I like her!
Agree- I much prefer her to the companions in the previous post-2005 series.
After watching the latest episode at the weekend, it has just backed up my thoughts that this is the best series in a while- even the presence of James Corden didn't ruin the episode! In more serious terms, this series just feels less OTT and soap opera-ish than the last few. And Matt Smith really is an excellent actor.
