Due to my research of historic hotels of Slovakia, I would be most grateful for your candidates. Beside still existing and operating hotels, I will also examine and demolished hotels, as well as the one that have been converted to some other function during history. The criteria is following:
I: hotel must be built untill the 1930 s
II: luxurious establishment, prominent position in the moment of its inauguration

1886 luxurious music hall extension
1905 hotel capacity (4th floor) extension was rejected by city council due to efforts to preserve Main st. architecture.
1965 Grandhotel Schalkház was demolished.

Grand Hotel Praha is perfectly located in the centre of Tatranska Lomnica, at the foot of Lomnicky Peak, right in the heart of High Tatras. Its history dates back to more than 100 years ago, to its spectacular opening in 1905. It offers rich history, stylish interior and an excellent cuisine.

History

The turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in Europe is known as a period called in France ‘La belle épogue’, meaning 'The Beautiful Period' . There were no wars, industries and trade was blossoming. Railways, press, telegraph and telephone shortened the distances. Modern aristocracy lived comfortably and was financially secure to indulge in pleasant activities. Architects established a new style appropriate for this period - art nouveau. Until then, the High Tatras were considered to be mainly a health and recreation resort. Now, they should become a meeting spot of European aristocracy. This gave the rise of new luxury hotels in Tatras more than 100 years ago. A unique hotel in Tatranska Lomnica was built by International Sleeping-car Society from Brussels (Wagons Lits Cook). Its construction, at the foot of Lomnicky Peak at an altitude of 908 m, began in 1904 and in 1905 it was finalized according to the project of architects Quido Hoepfner and Gejza Gyori from Budapest. It was opened on the 1st of July 1905.

Hotel Astória is the historical dominant of Bardejov spa, situated in its centre directly opposite to the spa colonnade. The Hotel was built in 1898 and its facade and interior was decorated by neoreneissance and neobarocco ornaments.

The former Grand Hotel, later known as the Hviezdoslav Sanatorium, was built in 1882 right on the bank of the Štrbské Tarn. The goal of the current reconstruction is to raise its standard to the level of five-star luxurious hotels. In the first stage, the hotel will get a new eastern and western wing with luxurious suites and a wellness centre. In the second stage, the building will be connected to a pedestrian zone with a number of stylish restaurants, cafés, boutiques and other services. A lively promenade full of various amusement and rest facilities will grow up in the close vicinity of the Štrbské Tarn against the background of the beauties of nature.

Hotel Tatra Nitra

Obytný dom vznikol v r.1887 a patril dlhé roky k presláveným nitrianskym hotelom.
Samotná budova je výraznou architektonickou dominantou centra mesta. Starší Nitrania si ju pamätajú pod názvom „Slávia“ alebo „Lakner“.
Koncom 19.stor. stálo v Nitre niekoľko chýrnych zájazdových hostincov. Známy furmanský hostinec „Koruna“ si v r. 1882 prenajal ambiciózny podnikateľ František Lakner. V r.1885 ho zmodernizoval. V susedstve postavil hotel „Hungária“ a na mieste dnešnej „Tatry“ kúpil o 3 roky neskôr zanedbaný hostinec „Zlatá hus“. Tento hostinec dal zbúrať a na jeho mieste postavil nový hotel pod názvom „Lakner“. Po jeho smrti o 9 rokov neskôr ho jeho manželka rozšírila o kaviareň s terasou až dostal podobu dnešného „hotelu Tatra“.
V súčasnosti prebiehajú na objekte generálne rekonštrukčné práce.
Budova nie je vyhlásenou kultúrnou pamiatkou.

aj po rekonstrukcii to bude hotel?

na prednej fasáde už nie je lešenie a vyzerá to pomerne dobre :)

Aktuálnu fotku nemám ale ako píše Amrafel lešenie je dole. Predná časť kde sú schody- tá jediná sa ešte nezmenila- je tam stavebný odpad. Rekonštrukcia sa ťahá už zopár rokov čo je škoda pretože je to na pešej zóne a v minulosti to bola slávna budova. Po rekonštrukcii by to mal byť hotel. Vedla toho lešenia na fotke je vchod do podniku- je otvorený už- vonku je letná terasa.

Hotel Lomnica 1893 (one of my personal favourites)

Once the most luxurious hotel in Tatras, now severely deteriorated.
This year it celebrates 120-th anniversary and 10 years since its acquisition by Unipharma Bojnice and planned reconstruction
Hotel is currently for sale.
