Due to my research of historic hotels of Russia, I would be most grateful for your candidates. Beside still existing and operating hotels, I will also examine and demolished hotels, as well as the one that have been converted to some other function during history. The criteria is following:
I: hotel must be built untill the 1930 s
II: luxurious establishment, prominent position in the moment of its inauguration

"Giuseppe" hotel ("France rooms"), Kazan city
Now 4 stars.
Built in the beginning of XIX century, reconstructed in 1840-s and 2000.

It looks modestly but was luxurious for all the times, receiving famous writers and political leaders.

In my opinion, from those hotels that you have suggested above i have to note Grand Hotel Europe and Hotel Astoria, both are placed in saint petersburg. Grand hotel europe as the most luxurious, seriously stylish and built earlier than the others (1873-1875). Astoria as the one of the most romantic world hotels, rated by Forbes magazine and placed on 9th position, unique of russians hotels. There Esenin died. :)

28 апреля, где-то между Кушвой и Тагилом, А.П. Чехов проснулся: «…поглядев в вагонное окно, .. почувствовал к природе отвращение: земля белая, деревья покрыты инеем и за поездом гонится настоящая метелица. Ну не возмутительно ли? Не сукины ли сыны?... Калош у меня нет, натянул большие сапоги и, пока дошёл до буфета, продушил дёгтем всю Уральскую область».
В Екатеринбург прибывает днем в 2.30, останавливается в гостинице П.В. Холкина, по слухам лучшей в городе.
О приезде А.П. Чехова в наш город оповестила своих читателей газета «Деловой корреспондент».
«А приехал в Екатеринбург – тут дождь, снег и крупа. Натягиваю кожаное пальто. Извозчики – это нечто невообразимое по убогости. Грязные, мокрые, без рессор; передние ноги у лошади расставлены так (рисунок свидетельствует: «на растопырку), копыта громадные, спина тощая… Здешние дрожки – это аляповатая пародия на наши брички. К бричке приделан оборванные верх, вот и всё. И чем правильнее я нарисовал бы здешнего извозчика с его пролёткой, тем больше бы он походил на карикатуру. Если не по мостовой, на которой тряско, а около канав, где грязно и, стало быть, мягко. Все извозчики похожи на Добролюбова»

Ну таким Чехову показался тогдашний Екб. Не в то время года приехал наверное.
