what do you mean with politically incorrect?
Batavia Air is one of Indonesian LCC
Slagathor April 17th, 2009, 03:52 PM I ask because Batavia was the Dutch colonial name of Jakarta. Since most nations try not to think about colonialism too much, it seems strange an airliner would call itself that.

It’s actually cool runway to land. The only problem of this runway is the wind direction.

i guess the reason someone chose that name for an airline was just as simple as a good name for a brand

What is the significant of having a cross runway than the two horizontal runways?
PlayasCity July 21st, 2009, 03:36 AM ^^ I have no idea... I personally prefer airports with parallel ones...
But for quick example, Chicago Midway has multiple crossing runways...
PlayasCity July 21st, 2009, 03:37 AM Keeping with the runways... Here's this little known airbase... Imperial Beach, CA...

It's totally a guess, but maybe if there's a strong crosswind, it might be easier to land "into" the wind rather than "across" the wind.
natarajan1986 July 21st, 2009, 10:58 AM runway so close to sea:nuts:
dl3000 July 22nd, 2009, 11:54 PM Runway orientation is all about wind coverage. In places near the coast, wind direction is rather consistent and predictable, so the runways are all oriented in the same direction so they are parallel, such as LAX. Places where winds are less predictable or consistently go in any of several directions, then multiple runways are placed in various directions so the airport can operate under any condition, such as Denver. Crosswinds are very bad for runway operation so what I mean for wind coverage is how much of the the time the wind is going in the direction of the runway so the planes can fly into the wind, which is preferred for takeoff and landing.

Several aricrafts getting ready to take off from 1R. It is a huge success to witness an aircraft landing on it.
