I have come up with an idea for connecting Ethiopias regions and creating a fully functioning train network. It would be based upon Japans "Japan Rail", with the backbone being high speed rail (also capable of transporting commodoties). This would be labelled as Sheba, and would become a symbol of Ethiopia. The Sheba network would be divided into three groups, each with serving a region of the country. These three companies would compete to create better service for customers and businesses. Liverey would be according to the allotted colour of the Ethiopian flag, with train hostesses etc wearing the colour red or green or yellow according to the train operator. These have been named using regional place names (eg. the Sidamo line passes mostly through Sidamo, therefore I have used that name), Gambela, even though an old term, would be used for its familiarity and for a source of pride for people from that region.
Like Japanese railway companies, these companies would be given the land around train terminals and major stations, to be developed into shopping centres, with each company branding the shopping malls with the name of the line, eg. Sidamo shopping malls being built at all large stations along the Sidamo line, and so forth. This would turn these companies into "groups", being able to diversify and create jobs and wealth. This is similar to Japans "Meitetsu Group" and "Kintetsu group" who were originally train line operators. Imagine a "Simien Group" which was in construction, rail, banking, retail etc. This would create three strong indigenous companies. Money could be reinvested into the train network, upgrading and maintaing stations etc.
As for its actual construction, Japanese engineers, who are experts at laying down railways through mountainous terrain would be drafted to help.
There would also be three types of Sheba train running along all lines:

Super Rapid

Rapid

Express

Each would be given a name of either a flower or something from the respective region that operator.

Here is a proposed map:

a typical view from the japanese highspeed line going through the countryside, potential view to be seen from the Sheba trains :P

What it would look like to have such a train running through Ethiopian countryside (this looks similar to Addis Outskirts)

Here is JR (Japan rail) Nagoya Station. Something similar would be envisaged for ER Addis Ababa Station. In the two towers is incorporated JR Simien Mall, hotels, restaurants, offices and a cinema.

just an idea anyway!!

its the view from a window of a train in japan, the urban development in rural areas seen in this video (fast forwards to about 23 mins) is what i see happening for ethiopia in the future

Is the propose yours or it was already been planed by the Ethiopian government?
Is it going to be built or is it just an imagination?

The problem Japopian is that the current government would never ever allow privatization of any type when it comes to infrastructure. They are communists pretending they're liberal. They even control cell phones out of all things.

Just an imagination. They need to get the hell out of the way.

They prefer the term "Albanian Maoists"

nice ideas Japopian. You seem like you are really into developing these new ideas. I would just encourage you to continue and never be detoured by anything. There are always way to put your ideas into action whether you believe it or not.

As for your map, it looks good enough but it may need more detail like taking into consideration the local land formations (mountains, lowlands, rivers, gorges) and then take into account the costs that come along. Those are just the basics though.

There are also the problems of how such a project impacts the local in question, displacement of people/farmland etc. And the cost-benefit analysis. Then there is funding questions.

Please continue to develop such ideas and continue to share them, they are real interesting.
