One of the highest towers in the Asian region, the new headquarters of The United Overseas Bank, U.O.B., one of the most prestigious financial groups of South-East Asia, is situated in the Central Business District of Singapore. The tower rises to the maximum allowed height in Singapore. It is a futuristic project with two office towers of 66 and 38 floors and a podium with banking hall designed by Prof. Kenzo Tange of Japan, one of the most internationally renowned modern architects, in joint venture with Architects 61 of Singapore. The tower, with its 280 meters, is amongst the highest in the Asian region and creates a new image to the vibrant and diversified Singapore skyline. Permasteelisa has executed this work by employing 46,000 m2 of 30 mm thick natural granite cladding; 23,000 m2 of special 26 mm thick double glazing; 700 tons of extruded aluminum sections custom designed to create a pressure equalized structural framework. The external curtain wall system of the U.O.B. represents a significant and innovative contribution to the evolution of the building facade for the use of advanced technology.

I can't get enough of it..even though I can access it everyday in Singapore. I even plan my trips to town to ensure I am within viewing distance of it! (Amazingly before my interest in skyscrapers I didnt give 2 hoots about it even if I walked under it!) Anyway for extra info there is a skylobby on the 39th-41st floor with 2 storey high windows that offer good views out, and a Chinese restaurant on top.

I find all its rotated corners intriguing..and if u see it in real life its pretty slim.

The crown and shape of this building are very good. It reminds me of Library Tower in LA.

Can now see some simliarities with Tange's previous Tokyo City Hall project. Very similar in form although this has more angles happening.

Still bits of wide bare surface giving it his trademark brutalist look.
Looks more post-modernish than his previous 1986 OUB Centre, and more refined.

Nice though.

8/10 - I really like the rotated corners, which act almost like setbacks to make the shape livelier and lighter. The facade looks bland at some angles, but seems to catch the light well in others.
The tower could perhaps be a bit slimmer, and something in the way of a spire on top would be a perfect finishing touch, so the observation deck wouldn't be quite so conspicuous.
BTW, good job of lighting at night...

9/10 - very imposing, had a meeting on level 55 last year during a rainstorm and all you can see is clouds!

Yes! When It rains, I can't see the top at all!

With the right angles above in the tower makes this a great one!

This Tower is very unique, The tower it's self got this "complecated-setbacks" to make it looks more interesting yet charming. With an exquire facade and exquisite pattern, This gorgeous Lion' beast deserves 9.5/10.

A great building. I prefer it to the Library tower. It fits singapore nicely. I like the shape of the building, and it really does soar and show off its height well. Nice location (isnt it right across from the new Marina Bay development?). Like the smooth color as well.

I've been to the restaurant on the 60th floor countless times.Great views, as great as the building itself!

Another architect who broke the mold once and then recasted it again...not unlike Pelli's WFC-->OCS comparison, Calvatra's roof curves, now Tange's Tokyo City Hall and this complex...very very very similar, the only difference is WFC and Calavatra's stuff is exciting, these two towers just look very cold and bleak to me

They are cool...and I like them for Singapore...very asian and almost sort of sci-fi sort of way, but in the grand scheme of tall building architecture, their importance and resolve will fade much more quickly than say, JinMao Tower or Petronas

Omg, I thought I rated all of the top 100 by now!! Anyways I give this tower 6/10 because although I like it because I like it's desighn, colour, windows and height I don't really find it very interesting and it seems too cold. So I can't like it a whole lot perhapes just because it's missing something to be much greater.

I normally don't really like the cladding of UOB, but it sometimes has some great golden look at sunset. I like the crown, the lighting, and the mini-me ^^ The plaza is also nice.
Too bad it's grey with smallish windows.

This has just a slight hint of the NYC art deco flavor. The shape works well and it seems to fit the skyline. Too bad about the deck on top.
