The high-rise building is to be built adjacent to the Raffles Place in the central business district of Singapore. It consists of office space in the tower and car parks in the podium. The first basement floor, composed of a variety of shops and restaurants, is accessible by the escalator from the covered walkway on the street level and is linked to the subway station on the basement level of the Raffles Place adjacent to the site.

The height of the tower is 280 meters, which is the highest possible height under the air-traffic control restriction of Singapore. In order to maintain a fine, ocean view from the upper floors of the office tower, the axis of the tower is turned by 45 degrees from the axis of the ground floor level. The exterior finish is the combination of the granite with strip windows and the curtain wall made of tinted glass. The curtain wall surrounding the four sides is gradually inclined to smoothly shift the octagonal configuration of the typical floor.

The top of the tower, where the executive club for the owner including guest rooms, and other facilities is located, will be lit up during the night to be a landmark of Singapore. The tower won the World Best Architecture Award (by FIABCI) in 1997.

This building has slowly grown on me as I wasn't too keen on it at first. It looks like a step-brother compared to the OUB and UOB. But it helps frame the skyline well with its lighted top at night.

Love the sleek and sexy shape of the building and how it turns 45 degrees in the middle. Another one of my favs in the world.

A taller version of his earlier 1988 Central Plaza 1 project in Brisbane which comes in at 174m.

Kurokawa always says these are based on crystalline forms.

Still good stuff.

8.5/10. I like it a lot. Especially the color scheme. Blues and browns, earth tones, always look good together., especially on Bellsouth in Nashville. In this case it appears to be a green with a slightly bluish tent.

I've only seen it in photos, perhaps in person it looks better. 7.

It is an obvious part of the well-framed Singapore skyline, though!

the exterior does look rather plain but its shape is pleasing. and its lobby is one of the best in office buildings in singapore too... my mother works there... on the 56th storey out of the 62floors available on the elevator :)

yep... i'm been in there more times than i can count... my mother's office bought a membership in the club... i think there've been two fires in the club since it started... scary huh...

i used to climb up on the drawers to look out the building using her boss's binoculars when he's not around.. hehe

a funky but interesting design!!...the indentations in the glass and the 2 tone color scheme works well here...9/10

8.5/10 - This one really races skyward, and the facade dances with the light. The setbacks, indentations, and the contrast provided by the inlays of pure glass in the facade really help; so does the fact that the windows show up in strips, not as individual holes.
They might have done a bit more with the roof, but overall, a sleek and impressive tower. Maybe I should have given it a 9...

good. but I like the other 2, designed by Kenzo Tange, better.
Perhaps, Kisho Kurokawa was too sensitive to his master.

Singapoore... hehe, we went there last July. And, there was an accident in the building, not a pleasant experience for me. I just don't like it very much. :guns1:

what accident? my mom works there and there have been two minor fires at the tower club at the top of the building....

i forgot what i gave this... but this is my least known and least fav in the 3 highest of Singapore..

Really nice one.. I love the choice of facade.. We can't have another tallest with a steel facade.. It would make the skyline really dull.. Not to mention the top tat makes the skyline look complete :)

A very sexy building... I love the shape... the indentations and setbacks... this is a very important and powerful looking building

I'd like to see a more daring usage of the -in itself- interesting contrasts that the building has now.

A great skyscraper. Classy use of colors, and I really like the indentations and the other architectural details. The rotation is nice and subtle and keeps the building looking classy. Spectacular.

Unique crown.But honestly I don't like it as much as the OUB & UOB.

This is the best of the 280's of Singapore in my opinion, unfortunatly, one of the least popular ones.

Nice sculptured design, less "showoffish" than the UOB or OUB. Colour combination: great. 8/10.

I think it looks better from a distance (i.e. part of the cluster) rather than seeing it as an individual building close up.

It's good, but I prefer the OUB Centre and UOB Plaza One, both of which seem more elegant and have more interesting facades.

Hmmm, I don't know quite what to make of this scraper. When I used to draw tall-bldg designs, I either had an idea that worked instantly or one that required alot of revisions to make it a respectable design. Both are good in the end but you can always pick the ones that needed the extra work. Although I like the color scheme and overall shape, it still strikes me as having an awkwardness that turns me off a little. Nice for Singapore, tho!

This used to be my favourite of Singapore's big 3, but in the end I think it's a tie up. This one is very classy and well done, with a nice top, but it's a bit classical. There's nothing really special about it. Still a very cool building with great height. The lobby is nice and I like the statue at the entrance.

I have rated it 10/10. What else can I do? I work on the 25th floor and like it a lot. Most highrise is the same, with glass and so. RP is different.

BTW, the only downside is the new building next to the NTUC building (one Raffles isn't it?). It is spoiling my view :-)
