The Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) is easily the city's most recognizable building. It was built in 1893. The style is most like Romanesque/Gothic although it's unique in its own self. Crowning the top spire is the gold statue of the Angel Moroni. While the square itself is open to all visitors, the inside is only available to the most faithful of mormons, so there are no interior pictures. (and I'm Catholic, not LDS)

You should say it was completed in 1893. They spent about 40 years building it. It is made of solid granite, that was mostly brought by horse from a quarry 40 miles away if I remember right. Towards the end of construction, the railway finally sped things up.

I've never been very fond of the SLC Temple itself, but as we are rating the Entire Square I have to give it an 9 because the small church building with a white roof in the opposite corner of the square is probably the most gorgeous church building ever conceived.

I give it a 9 because of its clean, simple beauty. The only thing I would have possibly changed would have been to add shorter wings to each side. It seems like it needs to be wider.

I really, really love the statue of the angel Moroni atop that one spire. A very nice touch.

I give it a 10. I love the Salt Lake City Temple as well as all of Temple Square. I go there about once a year to visit family, and yes I am a member of the church.
