alitezar April 17th, 2009, 01:00 AM ^^ OMG, this is one of the coolest threads I have ever seen. I've always wanted to know how Iranian embasseis worldwide look like :)
Thanks so much Herbicide
Herbicide April 17th, 2009, 01:48 AM Thanx Alitezar! :)
After a bit of looking, found the Beijing Embassy. Im not sure if its still the same building as these photos are from 1983 when its was first estabished (during the war!):

May have moved into a larger complex by now what with increased trade etc.
shugs April 17th, 2009, 02:12 AM Great idea for a thread, and Tokyo, Baghdad and Washington look brilliant!
Persan April 17th, 2009, 03:32 AM I've been to the Tokyo one and it is quite pretty up front, but behind it is hideous - That's where the staff residences are located! Across the street from it is the Tokyo Iranian School.
Shapoor April 17th, 2009, 11:52 AM Wow the Frankfurt consulate looks like the Walt Disney concert hall! I must say Iran spends a lot for good looking embassies. I've seen East Asian countries who've bought an average sized house and turned it into their embassy here :P

Yes I can see what you are talking about on google maps street view. I dont think the apartments are the worst Ive seen. Probably they are about average for Japan. They must have alot of staff, the apartment blocks are quite large. The Iranian school is almost unnoticeable. Maybe this was the old embassy?
Persan April 17th, 2009, 03:03 PM Is it me, or does anyone else think the Baghdad Embassy is ugly?
Persiancat April 17th, 2009, 03:56 PM ^^Yeah, it kinda looks weird for an embassy.
Awsome thread Herbicide!:) I like the London Embassy alot it's very neat.
it may also be a good idea to post the pictures of foreign embassies in tehran.
Herbicide April 17th, 2009, 07:13 PM ^^ Thanx! Yes! Post them if you can find them.

Herbicide April 17th, 2009, 08:29 PM ^^ Great I was looking for that one!
Just a note, Morocco has cut all diplomatic ties with Iran.
I wonder who paid them?
Herbicide April 17th, 2009, 08:46 PM Yes the map is actually quite out of date as Iran has an Embassy in La Paz, Bolivia; Managua, Nicaragua and is opening an Embassy in Quito, Equador soon due to a significant boost in political and economic ties after a change of government.
Here it is updated.

Persan April 20th, 2009, 03:44 AM Why can't they build these types of buildings in Iran?
iman08 April 20th, 2009, 06:29 PM ^^they have such nice embassies, because they think that the outlook of the embassy buildings are a symbol which should represent the real and the greatness of Iran. They don't build these in Iran, because the government is not supposed to build houses... and the buildings of the ministries are really nice. But on the other hand you are right they should build more of these buildings.
alitezar April 20th, 2009, 06:40 PM Why can't they build these types of buildings in Iran?
Exactly
persian April 21st, 2009, 12:37 PM Great pics thanks. I think the one in Tokyo is renewed because when I was there, it didn't look like that.
Herbicide April 21st, 2009, 01:45 PM ^^ Was this the building before?:

This, according to Persan is now the Tokyo Iranian School and the new building is accross the street from it. Using the google maps street view you can look across the street to the back of the new embassy and the yellow coloured staff apartment blocks behind that. So now its like a little area of Tehran in Tokyo.

Yes and the municipal central libraries and train stations are really nice in Iran too.

Im starting to run out of ones that I can find on the net!
There are some apparently beautiful, big ones I still havent seen such as Pretoria, South Africa; Stockholm, Sweden; Abuja, Nigeria; Dakar, Senegal; Dakha, Bangladesh; Hyderabad, India and Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Some I found dont look very interesting so I havent posted.
alitezar April 22nd, 2009, 04:30 AM ^^ Wow very cool, thanks for this amazing collection of pix. I truly appreciate it :)

Great find Herbicide! It looks huge.
by the way I've seen the one in Sweden. They used to have an embassy in Stockholm but they moved it to Lidingo. The buildings themselves are nothing special there but the landscape and location is awesome! they've got green space about the same size as a football pitch (or maybe even larger!)

shugs April 23rd, 2009, 09:28 PM Is the Jeddah embassy still the same? The Saudi government is destroying all of the old architecture like that to make way for new development, it may have changed.

Well they have embassies almost everywhere. A couple of noticeable exeptions are Peru and Chile. I wonder whats going on there? Its a cute little one in Havana!
Is the Jeddah embassy still the same? The Saudi government is destroying all of the old architecture like that to make way for new development, it may have changed.
I doubt its still the same! The Saudis will go out of their way to make sure anything old is destroyed. To them, admiring man made heritage is a form of idolatry. Seriously! They have a kind of heritage/culture policy that is the complete opposite to any other country in the world. It seeks out potential heritage sites so they can be destroyed before anyone commits the heretical crime of admiring them!:ohno:
Even if the Iranian Foreign mission really wanted to keep the building, the Saudis would find some excuse, like it doesnt conform to building regulations or something. Even in other countries they seek to destroy built heritage. In Kosovo after the war they pledged aid to rebuild destroyed Mosques. But aswell as building alot of new Mosques (strictly in their own style) where the Serbs had already destroyed them, they also bulldosed some really old beautiful Ottoman Mosques that were extremely culturally valuable to Kosovans when they were undamaged/slightly damaged. When they were challenged about this, they just said they were too small and they had to be replaced with bigger, modern Saudi style Mosques. No one could do anything to stop it because Kosovo was in such chaos and poverty at the time.
Does anyone know where the last one might be? I was thinking Minsk, Belarus.

You're right in some respects, the Saudis can be horrible when it comes to historical structures, but a large part of old Jeddah is still intact, some buildings are in need of repair but they're still there. Thank God!

Persan June 8th, 2009, 03:28 AM Why would London have a consulate if it already has an embassy? I thought the purpose of a consulate was to be the representative building of a nation outside of a capital!

Embassy is a diplomatic (political) mission, while consulate deals with visas and stuff. Each embassy has consulate division, but it is not always in the same building as an embassy.

Way awesome, thanks for finding it. Maybe we could have a thread for it if they decide to build it. I'm based in London so I can take pictures of it weekly.

Herbicide September 23rd, 2009, 10:20 PM ^^ You name an Iranian Embassy and you can find a pic of some protests outside it.
All the Iranian Embassies in the Gulf countries look the same. Just traditional looking yellow brick buildings decorated with a few turquose tiles. I dont know why they are trying to impress so much in other countries (even in very unfriendly countries) and not there.

Persan August 2nd, 2010, 07:19 AM Iran seeks more urbane image with sleek new London embassy
The Guardian (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/aug/01/iran-image-new-london-embassy) | August 01, 2010
http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Admin/BkFill/Default_image_group/2010/8/1/1280696891167/Design-for-the-new-embass-007.jpg
Iran is attempting to reinvent its reputation in the UK by building an embassy building in central London featuring a contemporary art gallery and cultural centre. The Iranian foreign ministry has submitted a planning application for the six-storey building on a South Kensington street corner, featuring a dramatic cantilevered arch, acutely-angled walls and irregularly punched-out windows, a recent architectural vogue. Its architect believes the building, which will cost at least £100m and is sited in a sensitive area of historic buildings, will embody "Iran's public image in London".
The site, which is just a short walk from the Natural History museum and the Royal Albert Hall, marks a radical departure from the Iranian's ambassador's current headquarters in a converted town house on nearby Prince's Gate, scene of the infamous 1980 terrorist siege that was ended dramatically by the SAS.
Meanwhile, the Iranians' architectural ambitions are already facing problems. Local residents have decried the scheme as "like a spaceship", "an eyesore out of keeping with the rest of the area", "catastrophic" and "hideous". A group of concerned residents has even asked Prince Charles to object to the designs, which represents the sternest test yet of the prince's willingness to keep out of public planning matters since a high court judge in June described his opposition to a £3bn redevelopment plan for Chelsea barracks as "unwelcome".

Kamstein August 9th, 2010, 11:03 PM Iran's modern embassy attempt is actually pissing a lot of people off on architectural grounds. It's the architects fault for not looking at where the embassy was being built.
also, if the I.R wanted to boost its image, it should have an I.R spokesman that's fluent in English that attempts to rebut all of the claims against it ( even if it the rebuttal itself is false, noting the efforts of mark regev)
QWECXZ August 10th, 2010, 12:06 AM omg, I didn't know women had to wear scarves when going into the Iran's embassy outisde of Iran. That's sick :(
Thanks for the nice pictures Shmack and Herbicide :)
well, when you are in an iran's embassy, you are in the soil of Iran. even if you are under investigation by the country you are in it, when you are in iran's embassy they can't arrest you provided the iranian embassy doesn't let them to enter in. that's why the invasion of the US embassy was so wrong, because it was like an offense to the soil of the USA.
