mike7743 April 18th, 2009, 09:42 PM great thread
LukeIRL April 19th, 2009, 01:48 PM It looks as though some architects and engineers in EG had some fun on their 3D design programs. But if this new city actually gets completed (especially the convention centre), I'm going there!
Abidrovia April 19th, 2009, 02:01 PM Honestly, they really didn't need to create another city, they could have just put many of these projects in Downtown Malabo and create an a nice, tall and busy city center/downtown.
Don't get me wrong, this is a very beautiful project but it seems a unnecessary and expensive to maintain. (more roads and parks)

EQGīs leader has opened its doors to people from the EU, they donīt need any visas any more, no matter how long they plan to stay. (due to jeune afrique magazine. I need to find the article again) He said that he wants to recruit massively many educated foreigners, which he certainly needs to keep all these things running in an efficient and orderly way until the locals are trained to take up the task. But like with all tiny countries, they will always need people to run things....even oil rich and ultra-wealthy Brunei has droves of Singaporean, Malayian and British long-time expats that keep thing going! I donīt see anything bad with it because Brunei people are happy, they live in an affluent country that provdes so many things free of charge!
Xusein April 19th, 2009, 08:45 PM Great renders, I hope for the best and look forward to updates.
My outlook on EG has brightened a bit now, I previously thought the oil money only went into Obiang's pockets. :)
StormShadow April 19th, 2009, 11:12 PM All looking rather splendid.
Malabo 2 is basically located within the capital city of Malabo or was it established in a complete different location ?

StormShadow April 26th, 2009, 06:02 PM This thread can override the earlier Malabo gallery which contained ruined structures and early images of development. The "This city is asking for attention" thread. I have a few images to give, and I will in a few minutes.

They finally reap the some profits...Read about the highly unfair contract signed with American oil companies in the mid 1990īs, 98-99% of the profit went straight back to the States! I was shocked when I read it on the internet.
EQG now gets more about 30% it took years to reach this....it has formed its own national oil company which will increase profits:cheers:

qymekkam June 22nd, 2009, 10:45 PM what is the economy based off?
Matthias Offodile June 22nd, 2009, 11:04 PM oil and ...EGQ is beginning to reap profit now after the US ripped them off, 98% of the money flew back to the US oil compnaies in the late 90īs...local content has increased since then, hence more physical and socila infrastructure that is being built.
AzBlk June 23rd, 2009, 09:27 AM oil and ...EGQ is beginning to reap profit now after the US ripped them off, 98% of the money flew back to the US oil compnaies in the late 90īs...local content has increased since then, hence more physical and socila infrastructure that is being built.
STOP making excuses for one of the most vile and corrupt regimes in Africa. These chaps have been extremely corrupt and yes there might have been lopsided agreements with the oil companies taking a lions share of the oil revenues but for the most part this countries problems have stemmed from bad governance and corruption. Did you ever hear the Riggs bank scandal? The spending sprees of the presidents son? who once spent several million dollars in capetown on a weekend, the same one who chartered Paul Allens yacht to take his girlfriend out a criuse. Just google Obaing Nguema Tedoro/Tedorin to see what these idiots have been upto while their country sank into despair.
popa1980 June 23rd, 2009, 10:19 AM Matt, this is not the US fault. Its the fault of that corrupt government of Obiang which lines its pockets with gold.
Matthias Offodile June 23rd, 2009, 09:48 PM you are so hypocritical and so regrettably one-sided! Yes, but thatīs only half the story.
98% (!!!) of the money was transfered to the US oil companies, they just received crumps...hence the lat start of development of the country!
But within the next or two decades you will see EQG become the wealthiest country in Africa and not just on paper! The country is a huge construction site...and the US-of A is not reporting on that because it doesnīt fit their racist mind to see a black African country prosper, Full Stop.

Bullshit Equatorial Guinea already has the highest GDP per capita in Africa of close to US$ 30000 going by 2007 figures yet 90% of its population lives below the poverty line. How do you explain away those numbers? Another lie by the white devils? Anyway this is not a political forum just a place to showcase construction projects going on presently. Just stop making excuses for these philandering looters .
popa1980 June 24th, 2009, 10:50 AM Bullshit Equatorial Guinea already has the highest GDP per capita in Africa of close to US$ 30000 going by 2007 figures yet 90% of its population lives below the poverty line. From Bongo, to HB, to Obiang. Matt loves them all.
But yes, great photos. EG has a great future since its so small and theres only a certain amount of money that Obiang can steal, some of it has to make its way to development.
Matthias Offodile June 24th, 2009, 03:32 PM I very much liked the first leader of Ivory Coast, īcos he developped his country from a small backwater to SS Africaīs third largest economy...without oil!!! How would Ivory Coast have looked like if it had had Nigeriaīs oil wealth, Popa1980!?
Dubai would have been born already in the 1970īs!
I respect Bongo not for being an autocrat but for his skills and his thirst for peace and instill a sense of unity into the Gabonese people, for not using force.....and for keeping peace for 40 years ...we all know how easily wealthy countries can go to the dogs especially in Africa. History abounds of examples.
I never said that I like Obiang. He is dreadful and entirely stifles the opposition who is living in Spain (as opposed to the other two presidents)...but this doesnīt hinder me from showing pics of Malabo and Bata and give credit where credit is due.
As for this American guy , he should learn more about his country... ...If I had something to say, US companies would be the first which I would throw out of Africa! They sponsored decade long wars in Angola and Mozambique (by supporting apartheid government in SA which invaded countries in the name of America) among many other wicked things...and 98% of the oil went straight back to the US-of A in the case of EGQ!
Having said that back to the photo thread!

88keys December 29th, 2009, 12:23 PM Nice pictures guys. It would be sad though if its solely the govt's job to build all things. They must have been private investments. I would like to see pictures of the High Schools and Hospitals in Malabo though.
meeleys December 29th, 2009, 03:33 PM The project is a comprehensive medical center in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, which includes a hospitalization tower, outpatient clinics, ER, radiology, operating rooms, an ICU and other medical services. In addition, the project includes staff housing, a logistics building, a power plant, hotel and super-pharm.

ashantiempire January 3rd, 2010, 06:20 AM Great pictures of Malabo. Looks like the capital city is really developing fast. I would like to visit Central Africa in the next ten years and especially EQ Guinea
Tbite January 3rd, 2010, 05:01 PM I predict the Gulf of Guinea will be a tourist hub in 10 years time. :pepper: :cucumber:
EG and Nigeria simply need to continue to work together to chase off the pirates and militants, apparently it is the second worst pirate spot after the gulf of aden.

Is there an estimate to how much this mega-project costs in total?

Funny that questions like these are strictly posed when it comes to African countries, it is all right when it is done in the West or Asia, I guess.
popa1980 September 28th, 2010, 10:54 AM Funny that questions like these are strictly posed when it comes to African countries, it is all right when it is done in the West or Asia, I guess.
Wtf? He is just asking. Why wouldnt he ask if it were in Asia or the West?
Not that anyone would know the answer such is the secrecy that clouds Obiangs rule.
popa1980 September 28th, 2010, 11:02 AM For sure this will be one the best looking cities in SS Africa by 2015. Actually, its already better looking than most.
Constantine MMX September 28th, 2010, 11:13 AM Funny that questions like these are strictly posed when it comes to African countries, it is all right when it is done in the West or Asia, I guess.
An African posting a question about an African city in a specific part of the Skyscrapercity forum predominantly visited by other Africans warrants such a reply from you?
Calm down bro, there are some of us here doing more than just observing pictures, but are masterminding ways to materialize potential future projects in their home-countries, this is just inspiration, which is why i asked the above question.
I rather have African leaders throw money on projects like M II - that one way or another will benefit EQ's population be it today's generation or a future one - than have them go on crazy shopping sprees or purchase lavish real-estate overseas, so you won't hear me complaining.
Matthias Offodile February 12th, 2011, 10:40 PM Malabo II - the new city built from scratch truly takes shape and it looks good.

Alex Roney February 14th, 2011, 12:15 AM A spanish speaking country in SSA is a little surreal for me. Nice to see improvements coming to EG, along with Gabon and Libya they seem to have the greatest potential in raising the standards of living to first world level.
