View Full Version : CAIRO | Cairo International Airport - Automated People Mover (Monorail) | Under Construction
Ropeways.eu April 24th, 2009, 09:51 AM The APM will integrate into the airport’s infrastructure to ensure a smooth and seamless passenger flow and reduce walking distances for passengers. Based on a "Cable Car System" which is a highly innovative public transportation rope-hauled system, the new APM will be a high-performance, cost-effective solution for passenger transportation at CAI. The main station will be located between T2/T3 and will become an integral part of the bridge connecting the two terminals. The 1.8 KM track will be ready in 24 Months after contract award i.e. the system will go into operation by the end of 2010.

egypt69 July 14th, 2010, 11:42 AM Yeah, its a good idea. Its better to have 1 station for both T2 & T3, since they're both really close together, its more feasible.
Mikou July 14th, 2010, 12:21 PM Great airport !
AmrZaki December 21st, 2010, 03:58 PM Cairo Airport Company Chairman Hassan Rashed has decided to send the electric shuttle train intended to link Cairo International Airport’s three main terminals back to France--where it was manufactured--to be replaced with a new one.
The decision came after the original shuttle was severely damaged by recent storms near Alexandria as it was being transported to Egypt by sea.
Rashed told Al-Masry Al-Youm that he had informed the French manufacturers of the shuttle of his decision, saying that, even if sea water had not leaked into the shuttle’s working parts, the vibrations that occurred as a result of the storm may have damaged it.
He went on to note that the relevant insurance company would be responsible for the transportation costs incurred by the shuttle's return to France. He stressed that, despite the setback, the shuttle service would commence operations in July as originally planned.
According to Rashed, the technical committee responsible for assessing damage to the shuttle was unable to assess the extent of the damage since the ship transporting it was still at sea.
And there goes the first delay!
xAbd0o December 21st, 2010, 04:01 PM lol, but this time it's out of hand they couldn't stop the storm.
On the other hand they could of predicted or had a Plan B.
Don't forget to post the source :)
Thanks for the update :D
Montrealers December 21st, 2010, 04:20 PM Thanks for the update Egypt69, this is definetly a good idea. I hope they keep the project on.

I hope that explains it. so now they finished the line that links T3 and they were going to ship the people move to Cairo Intl. T3 for first test by today and they failed to do that due to the bad weather condition.
eskandarany January 5th, 2011, 08:11 PM But is the track complete? 'end of 2010' deadline and all?!

http://www.youm7.com/images/NewsPics/large/s620113001441.jpg

UAE_isthebest February 18th, 2012, 11:26 PM APM almost ready
http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/2012/1081/sky1.jpg
Cairo International airport has conducted the first trial operation of its new facility, the Automated People Mover (APM), now under construction. The LE560 million mono train serves the passengers who transfer through the airport's three terminals.
The trip covers four stops, one at each terminal building and the fourth at the park, under construction at present. On Sunday, Aviation Minister Hussein Masoud joined airport officials and project engineers and technicians on a tour by the new train.
The soft opening for the APM is scheduled in next month. Massoud inspected the central control rooms and maintenance units.
Airport Chairman Hassan Rashed explained to Al-Ahram Weekly that the government maintained its commitments and obligations, particularly those related to paying back loans, no matter the current difficult conditions.
