A year ago Kanalen Eiendom presented sketches of a lighthouse-tower of 60 meters, now they have grown. This is the 3rd highrise proposal for Moss, and the other 2 are hotels, so naturally it's not realistic to get all 3 built, but we can hope for this one, and another one (Hopefully not Thon, since it's ugly.) Politicians in Moss is very high-rise friendly, and there is a general opinion that the ferry quay really needs some new development. They claim to have large local investors backing up the plans. It may include congres-centre, hotel, appartments, ground level commercial and a skybar at 16000 squaremeters in total, and possible extension later on. (Horizontal i guess.) The building has been designed to look good from all angles. The town of Moss has around 40 000 inhabitants and is located 40 minutes by train south of Oslo. Kanalen eiendom will present the plans on a meeting the 6th of may, and after that regulationwork will start, the development is estimated to cost 500 million kroner.

The location is where the kiosk is located now, 2 buildings will be demolished:

The new one is a huge improvement from the older sketches. It looks like a pretty decent highrise IMO.

A needed improvement, yes, and it looks far better! Let's hope, though I'm always pesimistic when dealing with small town/cities..

More like 50 min...

Without delays, only 41 minutes for the regional train:

Tog R01 mot Halden
Fra: Oslo Sentralstasjon [tog] 21.00
Til: Moss [tog] 21.41

Sammenlagt reisetid: 41 minutter

Hm... I usually only think of the Spikkestad-Moss line, by some reason. It actually is the most frequent of the two, and on some of the rush-hour lines you can't border between Rygge and Oslo (or get off between Oslo and Rygge the other way) on the regional train. But whatever. Moss is pretty far from Oslo anyways!

Tog 550 mot Moss
Fra: Oslo Sentralstasjon [tog] 20.48
Til: Moss [tog] 21.37

Sammenlagt reisetid: 49 minutter

Actually, I like the old sketches. It's kinda cute. :) I think it would have aged a lot better than the current one will.

A great project. It is next to the ferry to Horten and next to the Train station. Will be a major improvement for Moss (my hometown) if it ever gets built.

Pretty strange location to build a highrise, next to some small quaint wooden houses.

It will probably look great once it's done.

Moss avis supports the highrise:

The old ones look like a lighthouse. I think it would look real good aswell actually. Quite iconic and would really stand out. The new proposal will stand out aswell ofcouse, because it's placed in low rise surroundings.

The planning-boss of Moss wants to have an architectural competition for the whole waterfront area including this area, the ports plans aswell as the trainstation that will be moved when a new tunnel is built:

Kanalen eiendom still working on these plans, some clever scheme where they hold payment for plots pending construction permit is underway:

Well, a masterplan for this area would be a good thing, I guess. What I fear the most, though, is that this plot only will end up as another Bryggekanten. God, what an awful project that is...

This proposal is very much alive according to this article, developpers have made a deal with a hotel chain - but no progress will be made untill road/ferry and rail plans have been made...
