New shopping centre will be built to Viljandi.

http://f.postimees.ee/f/2011/09/15/752234t20h9b29.jpg

Demolition is currently under way on Tallinna tn.41 (former site of Viljandi prison) Only two historic brick buildings will be left standing. Those two will form part of new ~7000m² shopping centre.
Might be bit boring project? ..Well,the shopping centre is designed by architecture bureau Muru & Pere,so it's probably waaay better than other shopping centres.

Deadline is late 2012.

Something peculiar - Energy Smart OÜ plans to build a tiny solar park in Võru county,Southern Estonia. Company (who's mainly importing & selling solar panels in Estonia) claims that according to NASA & EMHI data, solar parks are viable in Estonia. Planned solar park in Kurenurme will be used for testing purposes, planned power will be 100kW. Project cost is 6 million EEK. Park will have 37 rotating & sensor controlled towers with solar panels. Planned construction should start in August.

I was reading today "Tekniika & Talous" (usually I read finnish newspapers) and Germany has in last years made huge investments in solarpanels. Its not only business, its hobby aswell. And not to mention half of new solarpanels in world have been installed to Germany (last years statistics). Im not surprised, as Estonia is land of BMW, Audi and MB thumbs-up owners , we adopt the solarpanel hobby...

Imho,in a way it's really shameful that government hasn't put little more effort in building quality & design. Okay, all those schools, police stations, community centres, sport halls etc are utilitarian and resources are limited. But if you think that such concentrated efforts for building public buildings last happened on such large scale in 1930's & 1960-1980s and those building booms resulted way better results (especially in 1930s),then you realize how good opportunity for getting some nice architecture to even the smallest places in Estonia is missed right now.

what in the name of **** is that in middle of parking space - who needs it, who likes to be in middle of cars and enjoy flagmasts in every damn corner like it would be something, I dont know...magical, increadible, powerful feeling...whatttt?

who comissioned that s***? Even the most simple full scale parking space would be billions time better than this:ohno:. And in small estonian city?

Please stop making "esindusarhitektuur", Estonia does not want it, estonians dont want it. The normal thinking and good living space dont want it. They made s*** like that during russian occupation more than enough for millennium. That "design" does not reflect any north european visual thinking, it has no estonian design value, it has no value for us, so why we make in Estonia this crap?

Parking controllers? :D

I agree with you that such buildings have very low visual value, but you should keep in mind that in many cases government institutions were located in old derelict buildings and people had to work in appalling conditions. Btw,that specific court house/police station in Jõgeva follows recent years typical Estonian prison architecture :D I guess it's meant for criminals,so they could feel like at home...

Eestlase lemmik toit ikka...

Arhitektid? Neid ilmselt kõlbaks avalikult lintšida, kuna nood oskavad ainult klaasist kuute teha... :|

Mul on igatahes yimby'na raske vaadata sellist lühinägelikku vingumist. Tartu muuseum-raamatukogust on kahju - selle projekti oleks võinud realiseerida.

Arhitektuur on üks olulisemaid inimeste mõttelaadi kujundajaid.
