Þróndeimr March 22nd, 2005, 07:45 PM Planning Shenzhen Dameisha Beach Resort
Architect: Atkins Architects (http://www.atkins-me.com/)
Dameisha is an important beach resort of Shenzhen. The beach resort hotel designed by Atkins in 1998 traces the curve of the coastline and follows the general master plan of Dameisha, which was also executed by Atkins. The curvature of the beach resort hotel form, clean modern expression, the colonnade of the lower two floors, tensile sun shade structures and green balcony railings are all unique design features that match perfectly with the tropical resort architectural theme of Dameisha. Furthermore, tourists find a cool resting place in the dramatic five-storey hotel atrium. The roof-top café and pavilions overlooking the beach and the wave-like roof forms all contribute to highlight the coastline scenery of Dameisha.

Shenzhen - China /
A residential project in Shenzhen. The design and architecture is inspired Chinese garden cities. The project is also very envorimental.
__________

Shenzhen - China
A residential and commercial project in Shenzhen. The building contains a underground parking garage, education center, residentials, retail and commercials.
__________

Shenzhen - China
A 30 stories residential, commercial and retail building in a new garden park area in Shenzhen.
__________

Shenzhen - China
A new residential district in Shenzhen.
__________

Shenzhen - China
A residential development project in the Shenzhen Fukuda region close to the Hua Qiangna lu Hebin waterway. The project consist of three large residential buildings, two 34 floor tall twin, and a large 33 floor tall tower.
__________

Shenzhen - China
Architect: PTW Architects (http://www.ptw.com.au/)
Client: Nanyou Group
Status: Under development
The new city is located in Shenzhen, on the western coast, just 10km from Hong Kong. PTW won the international competition for the masterplan of the site. The planning takes advantage of the beautiful waterfront of the magnificent site and is structured to incorporated landscape opportunities and to provide continuous corridors for recreational cycling and walking throughout the site.
A population of 85,000 is organised into five neighbourhoods of high rise and town houses around courtyards, with distinct central parks as focal points, complete with schools, civic and cultural facilities and retail, all within easy walking distance. The design concept aims to demonstrate how business considerations and an ecologically minded approach can be integrated within a large-scale development of 5,200,000m².

nice! Reminds me to that new city near shanghai.
Planner Shenzhen December 15th, 2005, 11:22 AM Looks nice on paper, but streets are too wide and blocks are too big (a common affliction here in Shenzhen) to provide a nice pedestrian experience. Even though there is plenty of green space, it will be boring to walk as there is no street wall for window shopping.
Circular plans are often difficult for orienting oneself--although this one does seem to have some the aspects to amerliorate that.

Two New Supertalls For Shenzen, China
Plans have come out for two new super-tall mixed use skyscrapers in the Chinese city of Shenzen at the FengLong Centre.
The plot in the popular district of Futian will see a two horned tower, 399 metres to the tip of the spires. The top part of the building recedes from the square floor plates of the lower floors with a cleverly tapering crown that shrinks along a single diagonal line to the tip. The bottom of the tower is flanked to one side by an attached podium.
The second project, even taller at 400 plus metres, is a tower with the more traditional articulated set backs and conservative east coast American post modernism, the boxy form deliberately contrasting with the glitzier style Shenzen is more famous for looking more like something that belongs in New York. Height is emphasised by the strong vertical lines running up the cladding and depth given by the layered quality of the facade. Again, it is topped by spires, this time four in number setting out the square pattern of the project.
Both these proposed towers more than beat the current tallest in Shenzen - Shun Hing Square tops out at "only" 384 metres.
The city has experienced enormous growth rates since it became the first economically liberal zone, 30 years ago it was a tiny fishing village and now thanks to the economic overspill from nearby Hong Kong it has a bustling population of 4.5 million and is the richest city in China with average income at almost first world levels, something reflected in the ever improving design quality of the skyscrapers going up in the city.
China, and Shenzen, both have a good record of building super-talls helped by construction costs that are low thanks to a good purchasing parity for the rembini and the large population includes a peasantry of hundreds of millions willing to work for pennies.
The boomtown of Shenzen, stuck on such a small strip of land, is as good a place as any to see more of this, just look at neighbouring Hong Kong to see what this dynamc can end up like.

SHENZHEN will be able to host a successful Universiade in 2011 given its financial strength, good infrastructure and other resources, according to a top government leader.
"It will be a milestone for the city's progress toward an international city to host the influential world sports event," said Vice Mayor Liang Daoxing in an exclusive interview with the Shenzhen Daily yesterday.
As one of the earliest special economic zones in China, Shenzhen has lived up to its reputation as the most open Chinese city with its rapid economic growth and dynamic market system.
Shenzhen's economy has grown 1,800 times over the last 26 years with its gross domestic product (GDP) reaching US$60 billion in 2005.
"We would like to serve as a volunteer to the Universiade," said Liang, referring to the government's commitment to offering strong financial support and mobilizing various social resources.
The financial support will include subsidies and advance payments to the organizing committee, investment in sports facilities, and tax exemptions for certain kinds of revenues, according to Liang.
The government will also mobilize the city's 140,000-strong volunteer team, translators from universities, enterprises and other organizations who speak English, French and Spanish, and media groups in China and abroad.
As for sports facilities, Liang estimated that the event would need 54 sports venues including 29 for competitions and 25 for training. Currently 22 venues are in perfect condition. Ten others will be renovated and 22 will be built specially for the event.
The new facilities will include the Universiade City, where the main stadium and gymnasium are located, and an offshore sports base.
"The Universiade Village in the Universiade City can accommodate 12,000 people with multiple service functions such as a theater, a clinic, a post office, a bank, and even a prayer hall," said the vice mayor.
At present there are more than 30,000 rooms in more than 250 hotels above three-star level in the city and the number of such hotels may reach 1,000 in 2011. Besides, the city is known in China for a rich variety of domestic and international cuisines.
The city's public transportation network, consisting of a well-expanded Metro system and a bus system, will also meet the needs of the international sports event, Liang said.
The number of Metro lines will be expanded to five from the current two with a total length of 150 kilometers in 2011. The city will also boast 500 bus routes and 20,000 taxies by then. "We have planned a special transport system for the event. All the stadiums and gyms will be linked by bus services with at least two bus routes," said Liang.
Despite a young city with a short history and young population, Shenzhen has a lot of experience in hosting large-scale domestic and international events, and wide exposure to world cultures due to its proximity to the international metropolis Hong Kong, said the vice mayor.
"The event (Universiade) will be good to the young generation yearning for more integration with their world peers and be more influential in Asia and the world," said Liang.

snow is red January 28th, 2008, 03:55 PM Shenzhen builds large traffic complex
(Xinhua)
Updated: 2008-01-28 09:24
A multi-functional traffic complex for long-distance bus, taxi, subway and urban bus lines went into operation last Saturday in Shenzhen with the aim to ease transportation pressure in the southern Chinese city, the local traffic bureau said yesterday.
According to an official of the bureau, the total land area of the station is 78,600 square meters and the station buildings have a floor area of 137,000 square meters. Total investment in the project amounted to 698 million yuan ($96.4 million).
Construction of the station, located in the central district Futian, started in January 2005 and was completed at the end of 2007.
The station connects more than 30 urban bus and subway lines running across the city, with an ability to transport 350,000 passengers per day. Meanwhile, it is able to handle 70,000 passengers of long distance buses daily.
The project is part of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong special passenger transport line.

snow is red September 1st, 2008, 11:57 PM Shenzhen plans to build 6 new ports
2008-09-01
SHENZHEN: The southern city will accelerate its integration with Hong Kong with the construction of another six ports linking it with the special administrative region.
Cao Shaoye, director of Shenzhen Port Office, was quoted by Hong Kong-based newspaper Ta Kung Pao as saying that the scheme had received initial backing from the National Development and Reform Commission and concrete construction plans are under deliberation.
According to the newspaper, the six ports to be constructed are Liantang Port, Longhua Railway Port, Fujian Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Passengers Port, Dachan Gulf Harbor Port, Nan'ao Tourists Port and a port connecting the airports in Shenzhen and Hong Kong via an undersea tunnel. The ports will link Shenzhen and Hong Kong by land, sea and rail.
Meanwhile, Shenzhen will renew and expand Wenjindu Port in the wake of the work to renovate Huanggang Port.
Work at Wenjindu Port will be launched by the end of the year, with its planned capacity for customs clearance set at 3,000 vehicles and 30,000 passengers a day as compared to the present 1,100 vehicles and 9,000 passengers.
Huanggang Port, work on which started last March, is scheduled for completion in the first half of next year.
"With existing ports being expanded and new ports in service, the population flow will become seamless between Shenzhen and Hong Kong in the foreseeable future," added Li Yan, a deputy section director of Shenzhen Port Office.
According to Li, Shenzhen's long-term plan is to set up 20 ports linking it with Hong Kong. He did not disclose further information about the schedule for the construction of the additional ports.

I think this project is only a vision. It definitely hasn't started yet since there's no sign of any construction work out in Shenzhen Bay. And the government probably won't approve such a project.

Andrew November 14th, 2009, 01:26 AM Hmmm, I'm not so keen on the circular bridge design. I prefer the one with the dome, but they all in my opinion, need more trees to be planted in order to provide better shade. I don't think these wide open paved spaces work very well in Shenzhen's climate for use during the day.

I don't think the circular design will be as useful. No-one is going to walk all around the circle in Shenzhen's climate, and it looks like it makes it more difficult to walk across the middle. I find the other design to be more practical as well as better looking.
Whiteeclipse December 16th, 2009, 06:31 AM Shenzhen unveils overall land use draft plan
The Shenzhen municipal government started soliciting public opinion on the draft Shenzhen Overall Land Use Plan.
According to the plan, the total area of residential land in Shenzhen will increase by nine square kilometers during the period from 2008 to 2012, of which 1.7 sq km will be used for indemnificatory housing. Around 30 square kilometers of land for residential purposes will be added by 2020, accounting for 20% of the total land for construction to be added.
The plan also calls for the set-up of a land asset management center and a platform for land transactions in the city so as to facilitate the capitalization of land. It also encourage landowners to "deposit" their land assets into a "land bank" so that the land assets will be managed by professionals and developed in accordance to the market demand.

Looking on Google Earth, there is no such checkpoint on the Hong Kong side of the bridge like there is for most border crossings (Zhuhai-Macau, other HK-SZ crossings).
