Red Nut May 2nd, 2009, 03:28 AM Certainly a surprise! Nice find fellas. I only counted 11 storeys - I think the vertical window design makes it seem a lot taller though. And yes the design is a little uninspiring for mine. Reminds me of some of the strata-mushroom type things going up in Townsville and Cairns :tongue3:
I first heard about this two years ago or so, but didn't think it would be moving ahead anytime soon. I believe this is by the same developer as The Crown (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=527714). This is certainly the single biggest proposal ever for a residential building in the city, according to my notes in the Mackay Development Map (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=661394) thread there are 112 apartments, although the design and scope may well have changed more recently.
Can anyone tell me if a builder will advertise apartment sales for a new development even before they've received DA approval? This one otherwise would be approved I would think...
Indictable May 2nd, 2009, 04:43 AM Nice :)
Oriolus May 2nd, 2009, 07:45 AM I first heard about this two years ago or so, but didn't think it would be moving ahead anytime soon. I believe this is by the same developer as The Crown (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=527714). This is certainly the single biggest proposal ever for a residential building in the city, according to my notes in the Mackay Development Map (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=661394) thread there are 112 apartments, although the design and scope may well have changed more recently.I was a little confused for a second but looks like you numbered 2&3 proposed/rumoured wrong - so this tower would be on River St right? (not the showgrounds ) I quite like the design, particularly the green glass. Seems a little strange though to have one agent just selling three of the apartments - where is the project marketing from the developer - are they just trying to sell some apartments which have no prospect of ever being built :dunno:
Red Nut May 4th, 2009, 04:34 AM ^^ Ah yeah you're right. I can't change the map at the moment as my computer with all the data on it is being repaired, hopefully will be back by next week.
I'm with you Oriolus, I am a little skeptical about the real status of this project. You would expect a website or more widespread advertising on realestate.com or whatever else. Time will tell... I'll be more than happy to eat my own words.
mick87 May 4th, 2009, 05:13 AM lol just putting it out there but when i made this thread i never said it was approved, however this one has been advertised on TV heaps, saying mackays newest highrise residential building. units from 299 000 dollars etc... I really hope this go's ahead ITS HUGE:nuts: and will make a great impact on our piss weak (at the moment) skyline
joemartin May 4th, 2009, 03:34 PM It's approved for 99 x 1,2 and 3 bedder apartments, 11 story for front tower. There is a second tower at rear, which will be a hotel consisting of 125 hotel suites. Both towers will have a number of Commercial/Retail Units n ground floor, with 2 basements below. Construction contract already assigned to same builder as the Crown.
Red Nut May 5th, 2009, 07:54 AM Hadcorp was the original builder for The Crown weren't they (and Latitude (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=426181))? I was never sure who they reappointed as the new builders...
mick87 May 5th, 2009, 08:48 AM um not for crown, i thought hedley were, but yes they were for lattitude, lol still have theyre big neon on the crane on site there
Red Nut May 5th, 2009, 09:15 AM No they were the original builders I checked it out - This is my photo from January 2008, you can see the Hadcorp sign. They must have gone bust not too long after this though, hence The Crown got a new builder.

joemartin May 7th, 2009, 03:32 PM Thats correct Hadcorp was the intended builder for the Crown. Lucky for the Owners though, they didn't commence construction with them, else the owners (GMW Group) may have had the same fate as the Latitude owner.
Hedley were the previous owners of what was then a 6 Story DA.
joemartin May 7th, 2009, 03:35 PM T&T Constructions from the Tweed/Gold Coast are the Builders for the Crown.
Red Nut August 13th, 2009, 08:55 AM New renders of both the Residential block and the hotel, in case anyone hasn't seen. I'm impressed at the scale of this project, hopefully they won't turn out to be stark-white eyesores.

Red Nut August 13th, 2009, 09:02 AM Also snapped these quickies of the site's location on River & Nelson streets. I wonder when these buildings will be demolished?

This one housed the former display suites for The Crown (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=527714).

mick87 August 23rd, 2010, 02:42 PM Any news on this anyone, it appears to be another one of the crotch teasing developments to just disappear into thin air :( it's a shame because it is going to take a lot more buildings In mackay to create a "dense" skyline like Townsville and that inner city buzz as mackay cbd is much larger than townsvilles.
kreuzer August 25th, 2010, 07:57 AM Mick87. to my knowledge this development is still going ahead, same with Meridian and the "Pier" and hopfully Latitude. Most likely when financing becomes easier. I think you will see the Mackay CBD to have quite a few new additions as the council is pushing for higher density development..
mick87 August 25th, 2010, 12:16 PM Thanks kreuzer. This would have to be my favorite development approved for mackay so far, followed by the pier.
mick87 November 12th, 2010, 04:02 PM This project seems dead, like the rest of mackay's highrise projects.
