I was doing my garden today and i start thinking about Moroccan gardens and parks and how Europeans are fascinated by them, for example here in the UK we have gardening programs and a lots of people ask the designers to create a Moroccan gardens for them,.

Menara gardens are located at the west of Marrakech, Morocco at the gates of the Atlas mountains. They were built in the 12th century (c. 1130) by the Almohad ruler Abd al-Mu'min.

MARRAKECH | Majorelle Gardens
The Majorelle Garden is a botanical garden in Marrakech. It was designed by the expatriate French artist Jacques Majorelle in 1924, during the colonial period when Morocco was occupied by France. Though Majorelle's art is largely forgotten today -- his oeuvre was made up of gentlemanly orientalist watercolors -- the garden he created is his creative masterpiece. A special shade of bold cobalt blue which he used extensively in the garden and its buildings is named after him, Majorelle bleu.

The garden has been open to the public since 1947. Since 1980 the garden has been owned by Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Bergé.

The garden also houses the Islamic Art Museum of Marrakech, whose collection includes North African textiles from Saint-Laurent's personal collection as well as ceramics, jewelry, and paintings by Majorelle.

The garden hosts more than 15 bird species, which can be found only in the area of North Africa.

MARRAKECH | Bahia Palace

The Bahia palace and gardens of Marrakech, were built in the late 19th century, intended to be the greatest palace of its time. The name means 'brilliance'. As in other buildings of the period in other countries, it was intended to capture the essence of the nations style: Moroccan and Islamic. There is a 2 acre (8,000 m²) garden with rooms opening onto courtyards.

Set up at the end of XIXth century by Si Moussa, grand vizier of the sultan, for his personal use, this palace would bear the name of one of his wives. Here, the harem, which includes a vast court decorated with a central basin and surrounded by rooms intended for the concubines. As the black slave Abu Ahmed rose to power and wealth towards the end of the 19th century, he had the Bahia palace built by bringing in craftsmen from Fez. The structures tell a lot about the taste of the nouveau-riche of its time, and can appear vulgar to modern tastes. It was intended to become the greatest palace of its time, but it is really dominated by hasty planning as well as uninspired detail work. This doesn't make the palace less worth visiting, it is a monument of its time, and served even as the residence of the French resident general, Lyautey.

Jardin’Art 2009 : 3ème édition du festival de l’art du jardin à Marrakech du 10 au 12 avril 2009


La ville de Marrakech accueillera du 10 au 12 avril 2009 la troisième édition de Jardin’Art, le festival de l’art du jardin à Marrakech organisé par le magazine, « Jardins du Maroc, Jardins du monde ».




L'objectif de cette édition est de sensibiliser le public là a place de l'art du jardin dans la culture, la protection de l'environnement et l'écotourisme.

A cet effet les organisateurs du Jardin'art 2009 ont élaboré un programme réparti sur plusieurs jardins et sites dans la ville de Marrakech.


Esplanade de la Ménara
Des jardins éphémères créés par des paysagistes avec la participation de paysagistes du Maroc, France, Espagne et Italie.
Des jardins créés par des artistes plasticiens marocains et français.
Les jardins d'entreprises créés spécialement pendant le festival par les entreprises pour communiquer sur leur image et y recevoir leurs clients et partenaires économiques pendant la durée du Jardin'art 2009.
Les jardins des écoles créés par les élèves des différents établissements scolaires de Marrakech et de sa région. Ce concours entre 10 écoles de la ville de Marrakech et de sa région sera couronné par trois prix décerné par un jury constitué d'enseignants et de professionnels du jardin.
Un salon des professionnels du jardin et de l'environnement où seront exposés les dernières innovations en matière d'aménagement du jardin et protection de l'environnement.
Un village des pépiniéristes
Un forum réservé aux associations qui travaillent dans le domaine de la protection de l'environnement et qui viendront partager leur expérience avec le public. Le forum accueillera aussi des démonstrations de jardiniers, et fera une place aux conteurs et aux musiciens.

Chargé d’histoire et de mémoire, cet espace constitue le plus ancien et le plus prestigieux jardin public de la capitale spirituelle du Royaume.


Created in the 18th century by Sultan Moulay Abdallah, the Jnane Sbil garden is a jewel of the Arab Andalusian tradition, extending over 7.5 hectares.

Jnane Sbil has suffered the ravages of time with the cumulative effects of drought. Full of history and memories, it is the oldest and most prestigious garden in Fez, the spiritual capital of the Kingdom.

It is a living memory.

Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, continuing the Foundation’s policy of historical park and garden preservation, has decided to rehabilitate this symbol of Fez’s history, which is situated in an important area surrounded by ramparts and the Borj.

The FM6E project consists of restoration and a faithful return to the garden’s origins to develop its creator’s intentions, and bring back the charm and ambience of yesteryear to the people of Fez, while updating the park per current needs and constraints.

The project aims to:
•Rehabilitate heirloom plants and old hydraulic systems, these jewels of ingenuity endowed by the past, i.e. fountains, water canals, windmills, etc.
•Restore the majestic central tree lined alley and the one in the bamboo garden, reconstruct the Washingtonia path, embellish the river banks, restore the ancient windmill, etc.
•Create a fragrance garden in the southeast area, reminiscent of the Fez gardens that captivated visitors.
There are also plans for restoration of the existing buildings and an addition of adjacent buildings to host the public, a refreshment area, restrooms etc.

This project reinforces the city’s cultural potential and its destiny as an international tourism destination, while benefitting the population.

Casablanca 's parks should be the best !!! but it is not the biggest city in Morocco has some of the worst parks in bad shape that need major fixing
look at how beautiful marrakech's parks are why not the same for Casablanca ??

Le Parc Jnane Sbil renait de ses cendres

C'est l'histoire d'une renaissance. Le Parc Jnane Sbil renait de ses cendres et retrouve sa splendeur d'antan.
Et c'est grâce à la volonté de Son Altesse Royale La Princesse Lala Hasnaa, Présidente de la Fondation Mohammed VI pour la Protection de l'Environnement. Lors de la cérémonie de sa réouverture, présidée le 07 juin par Son Altesse Royale, l'on découvre, après plusieurs mois de travaux, un exceptionnel patrimoine architectural et paysager. Un grand jardin composé de grandes allées bordées de vastes étendues de pelouses, de bosquets, de plantations florales, de séguias, de belles fontaines et d'arbres remarquables. La réhabilitation a été par ailleurs menée dans le respect de la conception d'origine du jardin et des intentions premières de son créateur, le sultan Moulay Abdallah. Les études se sont en fait appuyées sur les documents d'origine (archives, plans, photos, textes, etc.) et sur les témoignages de façon à respecter la mémoire du jardin et ses fondements d'origine. En détail, les travaux de la première tranche ont compris l'ensemble des lots «Jardin andalous», «Jardin des babous», Oueds et la Noria ».

Les travaux de réaménagement du Jardin andalou ont concerné la réhabilitation intégrale du mail central, le réaménagement de l'allée des washingtonias et la réhabilitation de la Seguia, la réhabilitation du bloc sanitaire existant et la réfection de la principale porte ainsi que l'aménagement de rampes pour personnes à mobilité réduite.

Les travaux de réhabilitation des Jardins des Bambous, Oued et Noria ont concerné la réhabilitation des jardins, la réfection des murs de clôture et le remplacement des grilles de protection qui longent le jardin des bambous, le réaménagement des ponceaux et la mise à niveau des bergers des oueds, l'aménagement des bâtiments désaffectés et leur transformation en locaux administratifs et techniques et la réhabilitation de la Noria. La deuxième tranche a compris de son côté le jardin des parfums et des senteurs, situés au sud-est du lac. Le jardin se découpe en fait, en parterres géométriques plantés de roses et de plantes aromatiques et cactées. Le dessin s'est inspiré, d'après un dossier de présentation du projet de réhabilitation du parc Jnane Sbil, du tracé initialement prévu en 1939. Les travaux ont compris l'aménagement global de tous les lots confondus ainsi que la réhabilitation du lac, de ses ouvrages hydrauliques et des abords. A noter que cette cure de jouvence du parc Jnane Sbil devrait coûter quelque 30 millions de DH. Mais au-delà, la ville de Fès s'enrichit d'un espace de vie et de détente dans un écrin magnifique de verdure et de pierres centenaires. Un lieu convivial et un beau chemin de promenade pour les Fassis.


Jnane Sbil, un morceau d'histoire de Fès
Aménagé au XVIIIème siècle par le sultan Moulay Abdallah sur une superficie de 7, 5 ha, le jardin Jnane Sbil constitue le plus ancien et le plus prestigieux jardin public de la ville de Fès. Abandonné dans un état de délabrement avancé pendant de longues années, le jardin retrouve une seconde vie grâce à la volonté de son Altesse Royale Lalla Hasnaa, Présidente de la Fondation Mohammed VI pour la Protection de l'Environnement. La restauration du Parc Jnane Sbil de Fès s'inscrit dans le cadre du programme « restauration des jardins historiques », initié par son Altesse Royale La princesse Lalla Hasnaa, Présidente de la Fondation Mohammed VI pour la Protection de l'Environnement en 1999.
