haggiesm May 8th, 2009, 07:13 PM Very cool except for that "awesome concert lineup - HHP, Nadine and others". not exactly enticing.
T.U.G.Z May 8th, 2009, 07:31 PM Very cool except for that "awesome concert lineup - HHP, Nadine and others". not exactly enticing.
Speak for yourself... lol
percy07 May 8th, 2009, 09:19 PM After seeing Snow Patrol AND Oasis live at Coke Fest  , I would have to agree with Haggiesm... But yes, it's all personal taste i guess.
Still it's really great that they are opening the stadium like that, I hope every host city gets a similar experience. :)
annman May 8th, 2009, 09:29 PM ^^ Nah, I agree... Gang of Instrumentals, Freshly Ground, Parlotones, Jax Panik, Koldproduk, Goldfish... now that would be a line-up! :)
ChilenoFutbol May 8th, 2009, 10:11 PM will the concerts be thefirst lineup and if it is when is the first sports mathc to be played at the stadium?
friendsofthecity May 9th, 2009, 02:17 PM Now, I can say am contented with the interior.
bloatedstomach May 9th, 2009, 03:00 PM A really beautiful stadium. It's amazing how much of a difference the grass pitch makes to a stadium.
haggiesm May 12th, 2009, 01:12 PM Tickets for the British Lions games at this venue are now on sale. can't believe how cheap they are: R85-R170.
SharksBoy May 12th, 2009, 01:28 PM wow cheap! which website? u mean computicket?
when British Lion vs Springbok play in NMBS?
Mo Rush May 12th, 2009, 01:31 PM well its because the springbooks arent playing!
Mo Rush May 12th, 2009, 01:34 PM British Lions v Coastal XV Rugby @ Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Port Elizabeth, South Africa on Tues 16 June 2009
The Tuesday before the opening test match against the Springboks sees the British and Irish Lions play out a (slightly) easier final preparatory match against
haggiesm May 12th, 2009, 02:19 PM aaah sorry, my bad.
Mo Rush May 12th, 2009, 02:22 PM NMB always reminds me of the initial London 2012 Olympic stadium concept
http://www.sportindustry.biz/resource/binary/cache/0630bb121173686736042f8b32e2b5d4/568x300_2012stadium2_n.jpg
haggiesm May 12th, 2009, 02:33 PM i see why, but NMB is way better :)
Mo Rush May 12th, 2009, 02:56 PM The roof in the initial PE renders were also meant to reach closer to the ground.
ChilenoFutbol May 12th, 2009, 08:41 PM dont like the london one but nmb yes
ChilenoFutbol May 16th, 2009, 03:32 PM any pictures of the roof?
juzzy May 16th, 2009, 07:56 PM well its because the springbooks arent playing!
well considering a ticket to watch the sharks play the lions will set you back R300 then it's quite a good deal

Andrew_za May 17th, 2009, 08:24 PM Thanks for the update

ChilenoFutbol May 17th, 2009, 08:27 PM nice update
T.U.G.Z May 17th, 2009, 10:49 PM Where's Lukus? He's been very quite lately.
Good question, Maybe the NMB officials are keeping him in check, considering his blog was on their site and all, hmmm interesting.
Mo Rush May 18th, 2009, 08:21 AM Lukus has moved on from SSC. Too cool for us :)
Durbsboi May 18th, 2009, 08:28 AM piff the nerve!
lukus May 18th, 2009, 04:55 PM Hey guys yeah been pretty quiet. been focussing a lot on the blog. Seems there's not much for me to do here anymore with PE Fan giving great updates. Still been checking the threads with interest though
Pule May 18th, 2009, 07:03 PM ^^ you still needed here bro. PE is more than just about the stadium and the 2 of you will even give us more accurate and appropriate updates.
ChilenoFutbol May 18th, 2009, 08:33 PM Lukus has moved on from SSC. Too cool for us :)

Lutzno May 19th, 2009, 07:50 PM cant understand why pe as a city, would choose this as the industrail part of town. between a lake and the ocean, sounds like prime property to me...
percy07 May 19th, 2009, 08:12 PM The name of the place probably has a lot to do with it: Port Elizabeth.
Most likely the reasoning behind founding the city in the first place and the rest of the citizens got the raw end of the deal.
DennisRodman97 May 19th, 2009, 08:14 PM nice aerial view of the stadium.
ChilenoFutbol May 19th, 2009, 08:43 PM how much of the roof is left?
DennisRodman97 May 19th, 2009, 08:56 PM chileno u and ur questions...are u gonna go to the world cup or are u going to watch it on tv in santiago
Mo Rush May 19th, 2009, 09:13 PM how much of the roof is left?
Hey. Not to be rude.
But we see the same pictures you see everyday, we dont see more or less.
ChilenoFutbol May 19th, 2009, 09:18 PM well mo you usuaaly are the one that has insider updates and crap. plus i dont live in south africa so you probably know more websites with pictures than I do.
PE Fan May 19th, 2009, 09:24 PM how much of the roof is left?
http://i43.tinypic.com/15zm9s8.jpg
I took this photo on Sunday. So as you can see it is only this side of the stadium which needs to be completed . The aerial shot hides the side that is not yet finished. Hence it looks complete.
ChilenoFutbol May 19th, 2009, 09:33 PM Thanks PE Fan.
Mo Rush May 19th, 2009, 09:50 PM well mo you usuaaly are the one that has insider updates and crap. plus i dont live in south africa so you probably know more websites with pictures than I do.
there is no better website than skyscrapercity.
ChilenoFutbol May 19th, 2009, 09:50 PM there is no better website than skyscrapercity.
well all the pictures dont just pop up onto ssc. they are originally on other websites and i may not know what those websites are callled and you may
Mo Rush May 19th, 2009, 09:51 PM Why has the landscaping taken this long?
In Cape Town we have huge parts of the common paved already.
PE Fan May 19th, 2009, 11:06 PM Why has the landscaping taken this long?
In Cape Town we have huge parts of the common paved already.
The reason is that only recently have they cleared the site of all building materials ect. The area that needs to be landscaped is not large and therefore requires less time than maybe Cape Town or Soccer City. Furthermore paving has progressed around the stadium as you can clearly see in the aerial photo.
I also noticed that there is already entrance pillars up and paving progressing from around the stadium downwards. The municipality will be planting trees ect once all the paving and outside construction is complete. Don't forget that we still have plenty of time and landscaping does not need to be rushed just for the sake of a lions vs "?"team.
SharksBoy May 20th, 2009, 07:45 AM cool cant wait to see when it done.
haggiesm May 20th, 2009, 12:19 PM great stuff. that lake just needs some chemicals or less thereof :)
willayster May 20th, 2009, 01:03 PM ^^ i dont think the lake is to nasty, ppl water ski there ect...
ChilenoFutbol May 20th, 2009, 08:24 PM Don't see whats the big deal of the lake.
FireflyAfrica May 20th, 2009, 09:04 PM Don't see whats the big deal of the lake.
????????
DennisRodman97 May 20th, 2009, 11:45 PM that lake looks llike a sewage dump

hoodedvillain May 22nd, 2009, 03:33 PM Great stadium. Took me a while to find this thread. There is no link on the old thread to this one....................................... :(
Sand-Shark May 22nd, 2009, 06:04 PM Nice Stadium indeed. Pity the surroundings are pretty grim...
lukus May 22nd, 2009, 07:52 PM reminds me of this stadium http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_pictures/south_america/chile/coquimbo_rumoroso1.jpg
But better:)
ChilenoFutbol May 22nd, 2009, 08:30 PM yea. lol
Gulivar May 23rd, 2009, 12:47 PM That stadium is tiny in comparison.
Andrew_za May 23rd, 2009, 02:11 PM PE's stadium is much better then that
FireflyAfrica May 26th, 2009, 09:36 AM that lake looks llike a sewage dump
Dude, have you ever been to the place? Its no sewage dump. Lots of runoff storm water, but no sewage.
DennisRodman97 May 26th, 2009, 12:59 PM mybad homie
Gulivar May 26th, 2009, 06:17 PM What's the lake called?
ChilenoFutbol May 26th, 2009, 08:28 PM north end lake
DennisRodman97 May 27th, 2009, 01:40 AM I still hate this stadium being skipped for the confederations cup...now its gonna open with some "rugby match"
Pule May 27th, 2009, 09:08 AM ^^ it's sad that it won't be used for CC but remember that Rugby is one of our most supported sports in SA and the Eastern Cape Province, which is were this stadium is, has a strong rugby support from all races.
Leftfoot May 27th, 2009, 09:16 AM I still hate this stadium being skipped for the confederations cup...now its gonna open with some "rugby match"
Yeah, it is sad....but looking at the aerial pic, the stadium looks complete but the surroundings look far from it. There are only 3 weeks to Confederations cup, I find it hard to believe they could finish all that with time to spare for crowd testing etc.
willayster May 27th, 2009, 12:45 PM some "rugby match"
pfft, ruggas will more than likely make the stadium viable in the long run. PE does not have a PSL team..
haggiesm May 27th, 2009, 02:07 PM you can't ask for a better 2nd event than springboks vs lions.
Lutzno May 27th, 2009, 03:00 PM its the spears, not the sprinjgboks.
bloatedstomach May 27th, 2009, 06:14 PM Love it when people make some emphatic statement and then they get their facts wrong. Laugh so hard!
Lutzno May 27th, 2009, 06:40 PM i love being the one to prove them wrong :) haha
haggiesm May 27th, 2009, 07:09 PM its the spears, not the sprinjgboks.
oh my bad. i'd heard reports that the southern kings would be the 1st game there, and that the boks would play there as well. pity.
Mo Rush May 27th, 2009, 08:44 PM http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p210/rfataar/Interior.jpg
Slmjm884 May 27th, 2009, 08:51 PM Looks alot like an English stadium. Very cool.
T.U.G.Z May 27th, 2009, 08:54 PM Wow, just wow. i envy the club who are going to use this stadium post 2010.
ilan May 27th, 2009, 11:01 PM xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Lutzno May 27th, 2009, 11:36 PM why is there a net behind the goals? i remember reading that 5 star stadiums need to have no netting behind the goals as a criteria. also, the space between the goals and the stands is HUGE!
ChilenoFutbol May 27th, 2009, 11:54 PM ALLIANZ IS 5 Star i think ( srry to bring it back) and i think it has nets behind its goals
Lutzno May 28th, 2009, 01:18 AM Criteria for UEFA 5 Star rating
Minimum capacity of 50,000 (5-star venues) / 30,000 (4-star venues) – individual seats with backrests. (Venues that still have individual seats without proper backrests will still continue to be accepted. In the future, however, closer attention will be paid to this aspect, and which will influence the committee’s decision regarding the addition of venues to these list categories.)
Pitch dimensions of 105 x 68 m. The field of play must be in pristine condition and be prepared accordingly for a final (quality of grass, irrigation, smooth surface, etc.).
Protective fences around the field of play are not acceptable. Venues which have such installations will not be included on the list.
Sufficient room around the field of play for advertising boards and at least 18 TV cameras. In addition, there must be enough room between the goals and the first row of spectator seats behind both goals for a minimum of 150 photographers.
First-rate dressing-rooms for both teams and the referees (equal size and furnishings for both teams, spacious, bright and clean).
Suitable and appropriately equipped drug-testing room.
Floodlighting of a minimum intensity of 1,400 lux (eV) in the direction of the main camera, and of 1,000 Lux (eV) towards the other areas of the stadium, plus an efficient emergency power supply able to provide, without interruption, the same luminous light intensity as the main lighting.
Modern security installations (access monitoring system, adequate PA system, etc.).
A permanent TV surveillance system in colour that is able to monitor the movement of spectators, as well as their behaviour inside and outside the stadium. This installation must also be able to produce still shots of any troublemakers, which can then be distributed immediately to the security officers / stewards in the stadium.
Clear signage that everyone can understand inside and outside the stadium, as well as in its immediate vicinity.
Suitable covered seats for disabled spectators and their accompanying persons (minimum of two sectors with at least 50 places each). The areas for disabled spectators must be adequately equipped with toilet facilities and a refreshment bar.
Acceptable sanitary facilities for spectators (both sexes) in terms of numbers, cleanliness and standards. Toilets without seats will no longer be accepted for spectators of either sex.
Provision of first-rate media facilities in terms of camera positions, working places, TV studios, etc., in accordance with the “UEFA Guidelines for Media Facilities”.
Adequate first-class facilities must be provided for VIPs, including a minimum of 150 places in the Honorary Tribune VIP box.
International airport(s) able to cope with the huge extra demands of a UEFA final (capacity for up to 60 charter flights per day in addition to the normal, scheduled flights)
Adequate hotel accommodation. For UEFA and its partners, at least 1,000 five-star hotel rooms (UEFA Champions League) / 500 rooms (UEFA Cup) are needed. In addition, enough other hotel accommodation in all types of category must be available.
ChilenoFutbol May 28th, 2009, 01:39 AM nvr mind then
Gulivar May 28th, 2009, 03:21 AM Perhaps it's there temporarily for the rugby.
DennisRodman97 May 28th, 2009, 05:59 AM ^^ yep
Durbsboi May 28th, 2009, 08:41 AM why is there a net behind the goals? i remember reading that 5 star stadiums need to have no netting behind the goals as a criteria. also, the space between the goals and the stands is HUGE!
& thats rugby posts if Im not mistaken
Jackes1754 May 28th, 2009, 08:46 AM Perhaps it's there temporarily for the rugby.
And why would that be ? I have not seen netting at any rugby stadiums or matches. :ohno:
My eyes might by lying to me as well, but those polls look to close to each other for rugby, the holes in the pitch wich are at the back to where the grass is shorter looks more like a rugby size pitch.
Btw, 3 AM, you just came back from a welkom night out ?
SharksBoy May 28th, 2009, 08:51 AM i think that net to prevent fan stealing the soccer ball when the ball fly to fan stand haha

At the time when PE was still in the running for Confed Cup they were working 24 hours a day, seven days a week with extra staff as well. When Confed was taken away, they stopped working overtime and went back to working on it "normal office" hours.

Well that makes sense they cant really be blamed, the motivation was removed.
Lutzno May 28th, 2009, 12:48 PM from those pictures, it looks like they may have to get back to 24 hours a day to get it ready for lions game.

DennisRodman97 May 28th, 2009, 07:53 PM when are they going to fix all the holes still left on the roof.
Lutzno May 28th, 2009, 07:57 PM thats uefa, not fifa. they have different requirements.
ChilenoFutbol May 28th, 2009, 08:50 PM hey zatuga were the numbers random or was it a ranking system by fifa?
Lutzno May 28th, 2009, 09:11 PM um...its in alphabetical order...
ChilenoFutbol May 28th, 2009, 09:43 PM oh wasnt paying attention lol
friendsofthecity May 28th, 2009, 10:30 PM That lake looks contaminated, from the images posted here. Wonderful stadium! It's really catching up...
ChilenoFutbol May 29th, 2009, 12:48 AM i cant see what you guys are seeing in the lake thats so bad. the world cup has to be shown where it is not where it would be perfect for it to be located (even though sa is a great location)
hoodedvillain May 29th, 2009, 01:37 AM ^^ that doesn't make sense ???
ChilenoFutbol May 29th, 2009, 01:59 AM let me try to rephrase that. friendsofthecity had said that the lake look contaminated but the fact is that the world cup cant and never will be hosted in the "ideal" scenario.
DennisRodman97 May 29th, 2009, 06:05 AM that lake will be taken care of.....they will put some sprinkler or somethin to make it fancy or someshyt
Durbsboi May 29th, 2009, 08:34 AM or 1000 litres of HTH
rulani May 29th, 2009, 09:12 AM when are they going to fix all the holes still left on the roof.
Anytime now, maybe already done.
haggiesm May 29th, 2009, 10:21 AM Yip, that was the first pic where the lake looked like crap. on all the others where it's visible, it looks great.
piellejean May 29th, 2009, 12:39 PM I think there is consultants working on lake's water. They just need to get the biology right. The lake is healthy just needs to be a bit clearer.
percy07 May 29th, 2009, 12:49 PM Bear in mind with all the construction going on, loads of cement dust and general dirt will find its way into the lake making it off-colour. When its all finished and they've paved over the dusty roads etc, the lake will have a chance to redeem itself.
ChilenoFutbol May 30th, 2009, 01:50 AM looking at older pics the lake has gotte a bit dirtier
Gulivar May 30th, 2009, 02:57 PM Well, it's right next to an industrial area, and it looks like it's used as a dump.
ChilenoFutbol May 30th, 2009, 05:35 PM that sucks

dysan1 May 31st, 2009, 07:55 PM so its only a few days away until it has its first international event...all ready?
PE Fan June 2nd, 2009, 07:48 PM The open day is this weekend so will be be trigger happy with my camera. What I don't understand is they say it is a open day for the public to come and see the stadium but u are required to buy tickets or have been given tickets by the muncipality if u work for them. I am fortunate enough to have friends in the muncipality, so have tickets to attend. Looking forward to it.
Will take photos from the inside to the outside. So there will be a big update soon.
Just not going to be impressed if my photos get used without crediting me. Saw a blog using our photos and not even crediting the photographers or us for putting all the hard work into informing the world how much we are looking forward to hosting the world cup. Its not cool.
Anyway hope u guys are all well. Will be updating soon
Pule June 3rd, 2009, 08:38 AM ^^ when will the be completing the upgrade around the stadium and the lake?
Gulivar June 3rd, 2009, 01:44 PM You guys should watermark your images.
hoodedvillain June 3rd, 2009, 02:46 PM let me try to rephrase that. friendsofthecity had said that the lake look contaminated but the fact is that the world cup cant and never will be hosted in the "ideal" scenario.
Ah, I see. Just some simple grammar

EduardSA June 7th, 2009, 06:41 PM First 2010 stadium opened
2009-06-07 17:27
Port Elizabeth - South Africa's first newly-built 2010 World Cup stadium officially opened on Sunday in the coastal city of Port Elizabeth a year before kick-off next June.
"For us today's first opening of a newly-built 2010 FIFA World Cup stadium is a huge boost," said local organising committee chief Danny Jordaan.
"It demonstrates the capacity of SA's construction industry and our commitment to deliver on all our 2010 FIFA World Cup promises," Jordaan said in a statement.
Eight 2010 games, including a quarter final and a third and fourth place playoff, will be hosted at the city's 48 000-seater Nelson Mandela Bay stadium.
The new ground hosts the touring British and Irish Lions rugby team on Tuesday when they will play a local Southern Kings Invitational side.
The 2010 'curtain raiser' Confederations Cup starts on Sunday at four refurbished stadiums in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Bloemfontein and Rustenburg.
Five additional new stadiums that will also be used in Africa's first World Cup were "shaping up nicely" to be ready ahead of 2010, Jordaan said.
The eight nation Confederations Cup will be played for two weeks in four host cities. The World Cup follows a year later at 10 grounds in nine cities.

Instead of just telling them to remove the photos, tell them to just copy the url of the photos in this forum and paste them in their site. for certainly they don't know about the legal aspect.
Besides , it's cool to see that someone else is still informing other people that don't know of this site.

I agree, it's not a competition. What it is though, is publicity - the more the better! This isn't Reuters, this is just a dissemination of information freely available to anyone. The only thing anyone has the right to complain about is the use of photographs without credit, that's a violation of intellectual property law.
Mo Rush June 10th, 2009, 05:11 PM Well then the people from where you get your photos would say the same, go visit their site or register to flickr, photobucket,... if you want to see my photos.:bash:
So every source, flickr or personal or other, we must go them first?
Where the use of imagees causes any conflict I either remove them or just dont use them or post them.
SSC is the central source for information from a wide variety of sources.
Simply repeating posts from our members at another forum is lazy and stealing.
We will crush them. etc...I am Julius
ZATUGA June 10th, 2009, 05:31 PM I just can't understand what goes up in your mind, just as you say "SSC is the central source for information from a wide variety of sources", if we had to remove all these sources we'd have pratically nothing here to read or see.
african biohazard June 10th, 2009, 06:34 PM I've mentioned this before ..but here goes. Pictures on the net are by definition published, and lifting/reposting them is allowed so long as they are not used for making money. The only requirement is that the original source is acknowledged. But otherwise, the pictures can be used freely.

2010 FIFA World Cup: Latest Ticketing figures
It is a very special day tomorrow, when it will be exactly one year to kick-off of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ South Africa, the very first on African soil. The second ticketing phase on a first come, first serve basis will continue until 16 November.
As of today (with four out of 32 teams qualified, in addition to the hosts South Africa) there have been a total of 630,021 tickets in 188 different countries/territories sold. Nearly half of those total orders have been submitted by South Africans (301,601). Outside of South Africa, supporters from the USA have purchased the largest number of tickets (73,441), followed by the United Kingdom (42,907), Germany (30,880) and Australia (15,038). Reigning champions Italy have so far received 6,063 ticket orders, Brazil 5,777 and from France 5,106 tickets have been so far sold.
FIFA Confederations Cup: Ticketing centres will be open until last minute
The final countdown is on: With only four days to the first match of the FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 on 14 June - with the home team South Africa facing Iraq at Ellis Park - there have been already more than 70 % (this corresponds to a figure of 438,000) sold of the total of tickets available. To cater for the expected last-minute surge of demand, tickets can be purchased (even on match days) at:
- Main Ticketing Centre at Sandton Isle, Corner of Rivonia Road and Linden Street, Sandown/Johannesburg;
- Mangaung/Bloemfontein Venue Ticketing Centre - Lochlogan Waterfront Mall, Corner of Charles Street and 1st Avenue;
- Rustenburg Venue Ticketing Centre - Waterfall Mall, 1 Augrabies Avenue;
- Tshwane/Pretoria Venue Ticketing Centre - Brooklyn Mall, Corner of Middel and Fehrsen Street, New Muckleneuk;
The ticket centres will be open from 9am-6pm, seven days a week.
To further assist football fans, a Ticketing Call Centre has been established and fans can call 0832010010 to book their seat at the FIFA Confederations Cup. Please be aware, that there will be no ticket sales at the four stadiums.
Slmjm884 June 11th, 2009, 02:17 AM Hearing that the U.S has the most tickets bought is a bit surprising, although i do see an increase of people getting into soccer and the M.L.S. which pleases me.
