i just wanna ask one honest question:

many photos i see of Tokyo, are not showing anything AMAZING or incredibly good-looking. yeah there r some amazing parks, and structures and the fact that the city is massive, but apart from that?
I mean, does it have amazing architecture? i didnt see photos showing it...
so why are so many ppl so excited about this city?
there r many massive and exciting cities in Asia including Hong Kong, Bangkok and Shanghai, and amazing beach cities such as Rio & Sydney... when Tokyo doesnt have the great beach weather nor does it have anything more than what nyc for example, has to offer... does it?

would b glad if someone could explain to me what the excitement is all about... :)

It's more on the vibrancy of the streets and the advanced technology they use, so it's not so evident from the skyline and building shots. You really need to be on the ground to observe how they get on with their ordinary lives and how orderly the place is for a city of some 30 million.

The word that crosses my mind when viewing the images is patchwork. Is there something like a masterplane for urban development or is everyone free to build anything?

Impossible not to like Tokyo. Such an amazing, cosmopolitan, stylish city. And very clean and organised despite its HUGE size.

I love how far ahead the japanese are.

Tokyo its amazing city for many reasons, few of those are: great people, the city it self its great: amazing skyline, the foods like sousi, night life etc

Excellent quality photos here. Very good indeed. They capture a vibrant and exciting city from street level [some anyway], which are always the best kind of photos to truly understand and appreciate any city IMO.

Tokyo = lots of fun and lots to do. Not to mention you need LOTS of money here, too. :D

From my recollection Tokyo isn't as bad as London, but I agree with you, street life is a huge component of Tokyo's grand-ness, so I will try to bring more of those into here.

It certainly is... I've always felt so anyway. Tokyo is at it's best when you are on foot. You could say this of any place I suppose, but it's so true of this particular city. It's big - real big but you can still feel your way round and have a great deal of fun at the same time. The street vibe is awesome [an integral part of Tokyo life I believe] and you'll always find something going on some place. But there is far more to Tokyo than all the bright lights and modernism, there is also a very fascinating and ancient city beneath all of this. Unfortunately, many people never get to see/experience this.

...so I will try to bring more of those into here.

If you live in Tokyo, you don't normally go out so often and look for something new. It's just exhausting and a waste of money walking around purposelessly. Nothing special to look at all the time. Tokyo is boring. Buy everything over the Internet and you won't need to get out of your room for ever.

^^ I'll take the bustling centre of Tokyo over sprawl any day.

You have got to be kidding! Japanese girls are definitely the most beautiful in Asia, then Indian, Korean and Chinese. Chinese people have specific face lines and shapes that makes them non-attractive. Japanese women are very hot!
