what project select Mirax and NIKoil we don't know, I feel it will be 92 and 44 storeys tower... will see in april when construction begin official...
CULWULLA March 18th, 2004, 12:13 AM wow, its weird to see a construction site with snow! i couldnt think of anything worse then trying to erect a skyscraper and having the elements to deal with! #cold fingers# lol
coth March 18th, 2004, 09:37 AM @CULWULLA
That's nothing strange, if you are in Canada, Russia or northern United States. We have not less 3 months in year, when temperature is negative.
But today +8 and cloudy. Snow almost melt and I hope it don't dropped again this spring.
HD March 18th, 2004, 03:49 PM they must be able to do construction despite snow. in moscow you can get snow from october to april - that's 7 months/year. moscow is the coldest capital in europe (even reykjavik is "warmer" in winter. it's 2 degrees there right now, while in central europe you have already 20 degrees
coth March 18th, 2004, 04:26 PM HD
actually, we have only 3,5 snowy months - december - march
but sometimes snow droped in november and april
and very rarely (only every 4-6 year) in october.
but once we have a snow IN JUNE!!! i don't remember year when it was been.
hotest months is may and july when middle temperature not less 30 degrees
HD March 18th, 2004, 04:55 PM well, moscow is a city of extremes: the winters can be quite cold and long, but summers can get quite hot aswell. that's the advantage or disadvante of having a continental climate
coth March 18th, 2004, 05:25 PM Middle temperature of winter in Moscow is around -7 degress by Celsius of course.
But every 6th or 7th year winter is very cold, when middle temp. drop to -20 or -25.
Last year temp of winter was almost -28!!!! and without spring in last days of April winter dramatically changed to summer. In 5 days temperature changed from negative to almost 30 degrees.
But this winter is very hot (if compare to middle) with middle temp. around -2. Today +8, next week will reach +12.

Vespa April 3rd, 2004, 01:58 PM Thanks for the update coth! When are the foundation finish?
coth April 3rd, 2004, 02:28 PM I think around year. At least. See, Moscow situated on very washy ground, so here need for very deep foundation. I think on Complex Federation it will be at least 100 meters deep and on Russia Tower at least 160 meters.
I know 130 meters 35 storeys Olympia 2 in Moscow has 36 meters deep foundation, 176 meters 43 storeys Edelweiss has 50 meters deep foundation.

Children must going further than parents and apprentice must surpass their teachers. This is meaning of progress and meaning of life. We trust that we make a valuable contribution to developing of our country. We know that you will make more. Today we doing it. Tommorow it will be you."

Construction Begins on Moscow Skyscraper
Construction Begins on Moscow's Newest Attempt at Europe's Tallest Building
MOSCOW Oct 20, 2004 — Although still only in its infancy, construction has begun on the building that is to be Europe's tallest, a shiny younger brother to the dour Stalinist "Seven Sisters" skyscrapers that dominated Moscow's skyline for a half-century.
The first beam was put in place last week for the building called the "Federation," a mixed residential and office project that will consist of two soaring glass-clad buildings linked to an even taller stiletto-like tower, due for completion in 2007. From an observation deck there, visitors will be able to view a city being transformed by a booming economy and a taste for gigantism.
The taller of the two buildings is to top out at 1,115 feet, 249 feet higher than the continent's current champion Moscow's Triumph Palace apartment high-rise. In western Europe, the tallest building is Frankfurt's 850-foot Commerzbank.
With the two curved-wall buildings sloping away from the central tower, the $315 million complex will "call to mind the sails of a brigantine" ship its developer Mirax-City claims.
The popular weekly magazine Vsyo Yasno came up with a different, though equally gushing analogy: Don Quixote and Sancho Panza jointly holding a spear.
The comparison may reflect Moscow's long penchant for hugely ambitious projects that often go awry, a run of bad luck dating back to at least 1737 when the Tsar's Bell, the world's largest, cracked before it could ever be rung.
In the 1930s, dictator Josef Stalin conceived of what would have been the world's tallest building at the time, a Palace of the Soviets topped by a gargantuan statue of Vladimir Lenin that would have outstripped the Empire State Building by 112 feet.
Moscow's main cathedral was dynamited to make way for this pinnacle of official atheism, but the ground proved to be unstable and the grandiose project was abandoned in favor of a swimming pool which itself was destroyed after the fall of the Soviet Union and the cathedral was rebuilt.
In the 1960s, an entire neighborhood was razed to build the Rossiya Hotel, Europe's largest. It became notorious to visitors for its nightmarishly endless corridors and a seemingly limitless supply of vermin and prostitutes. It is now being prepared for destruction.
The 1,762-foot Ostankino television tower in northern Moscow, the world's tallest free-standing structure when it was built in 1967, was a popular tourist attraction until its image was literally blackened by a 26-hour inferno in 2000.
The city's arguably most successful soaring structures are the famed "Seven Sisters," the Gothic-influenced skyscrapers built in the 1940s and 50s. Although many outsiders find their pointy stone spires and turrets uncomfortably reminiscent of a wicked witch's castle, the look struck a chord with Russians. The Triumph Palace and several other residential high-rises that have sprouted in recent years follow the style closely.
"Federation" will be a comparative shrimp to the world's current tallest building: Taipei 101, at 1,670 feet, is nearly 50 percent higher. But Russians appear to be in the mood to play serious catch-up.
The Moscow building is "our late answer to New York's Twin Towers," Vsyo Yasno commented.

Video: mms://video.rfn.ru/rtr-vesti/37100.asf
The first concretes were flooded today to the foundation of a complex "Federation". The huge multilevel building promises to become the tallest building in Europe. The whole height of complex will reach 440 meters.
To the foundation of typical building is pawn a symbolical first stone, while to the foundation of a skyscraper which should rise on territory of the International Business Centre "Moscow-City", have been flooded first whole cubic metre of concrete.
The mixed-use office-recreation complex Federation should become the tallest building not only in Russia, but also in Europe. It will consist of two tower 87 and 57 storeys.
"The best minds of humanity, architects who is projected the tallest buildings over all world including Dubai, - the main architect of Moscow Alexander Kuzmin said. Is a mixed-use complex. At the beginning it was supposed to be simply office buildings. But owners have suggested to make the hotel on the top of tallest tower".
Special capsule with a message has been thrown, before powerful pumps have started flooding concrete to a timbering of the base of a skyscraper. It says that a complex "Federation" - the first grandiose project of XXI century, and expressing a hope, that for descendants there will be nothing unusual as they can surpass the predecessors in all.
The whole area of a complex will have 347 thousand square meters, the whole budget - 500 million us dollars. In the towers there will be offices, apartments, hotel, banks, supermarkets, restaurants and trading galleries. The building, according to builders, will have the highest degree of protection from cataclysm.
"We have cleaned undergound places of parking, therefore any variants with the machines filled by an explosive, basically are impossible. Our buildings are made of a monolith, instead of from metal. A limit of fire resistance of a monolith in 4-5 times more, than have metal. Therefore that accident which has taken place in New York, here is impossible", - the head of the construction company Sergey Polonsky asserts.
The complex "Federation" is already the fourth building of a business centre "Moscow-City". Completely it should be constructed by 2010. The height of the largest building of Russia and Europe will reach 440 m. It will built by Russian, Turkish and American companies. The opening of complex "Federation" is planned for 2007.

Корпорация «Mirax Group» завершила заливку самой большой фундаментной плиты в Европе
http://7211000.ru/?pid=1&sid=1&eid=0&page=1&id=505

As I said on page 2 of this thread, Complex Federation's design reminds me of a mixture of Dubai's Burj al Arab and Hong Kong's Nina Towers.

Federation Tower A's structural height is 340m/1,115ft @ 87 floors above ground @ the spire will reach 440m/1443ft.
Tower B's structural height, 235m/771ft @ 57 levels above ground.
Anticipated completion year is 2007.

sdtj May 14th, 2005, 03:40 AM I wouln't know, but the render is really good.
Does the tower have it's on web page?
3tmk May 14th, 2005, 04:16 AM Really great tower, one of the buildings I can't wait to see built in Europe.
And the illustration is magnificient, I hope the two towers come up to look just as good
TICONLA1 May 14th, 2005, 10:18 AM So i guess this is the pad, (or the foundation mat, connected to the driven piles.) with the perimeter columns begining to rise, Is this pad for the taller of the two? I always find the construction of the foundation system one of the most interesting aspects of the skyscraper building process. This building will be an interesting project to watch go up. The renderings and concept drawings kind of make it look toylike or a "star wars" type of building. I think at night this will be a spactacular tower, (and the individual floors lit up will give the two tower's a human scale,) And the spire lighting should prove to be interesting as well. So i now ask myself "I wonder what kind of structural framing system will be used on these tower's?"

A - 340m
spire - 440m
nezzybaby June 10th, 2005, 10:50 AM yeah i thought it was odd that they would start the shorter one first, but im sure thee is a reason, maybe more foundation work needs to be done on the taller tower before they can start building it? or maybe they can open one without the other and increase income in the early stages?

Urban Dave June 16th, 2005, 01:38 AM YEAH! Now growing from the ground level! I suppose that they took so many time because concrete structures are difficult to build in below 0ºC conditions.

coth June 16th, 2005, 02:25 AM YEAH! Now growing from the ground level! I suppose that they took so many time because concrete structures are difficult to build in below 0ºC conditions.
below 0ºC is not something special. entire foundation slab (which is second biggest after Taipei 101) was poured at -5(day) - -15(night) on 2 april just in 36 hours.
year was spent on digging (there is hard limestone bed), finishing of planning, negotiations with investors, working on pile's field etc
Urban Dave June 16th, 2005, 03:17 AM They have to take care of the concrete, use special concretes.... ;) If not water can't evaporate from the concrete and if it frozen it could break the pieces ;) That's why they have to take special care, like heat the columns and concrete elements.
At least it's what we do here in Spain when they have to pour concrete in this kind of conditions, as well as when it's too hot and water evaporates too fast, they add water to the concrete element to make this process slow and avoid imperfections.

coth July 18th, 2005, 02:44 PM Moscow skyscraper designed for attacks
Sunday, July 17, 2005; Posted: 9:48 a.m. EDT (13:48 GMT)
http://www.cnn.com/2005/BUSINESS/07/17/moscow.tower.ap/
MOSCOW, Russia (AP) -- The developer for a skyscraper billed as Europe's tallest says that state-of-the-art construction and design methods will make it safe from plane attacks similar to those that destroyed the World Trade Center in New York.
The futuristic, glass-clad Federation Tower will house offices, a hotel and luxury apartments along the Moscow river in a western region of the Russian capital.
http://i.a.cnn.net/cnn/2005/BUSINESS/07/17/moscow.tower.ap/story.vert.fed.tower.jpg
Federation Tower is representative of the construction boom in Moscow.
Its twin, sail-like towers -- the tallest of which will be 340 meters -- are attached to a central 430-meter stiletto-like spire.
In western Europe, the tallest building is Frankfurt's 260-meter Commerzbank tower.
http://i.a.cnn.net/cnn/2005/BUSINESS/07/17/moscow.tower.ap/story.vert.fed.tower3.jpg
At present the tallest building is Frankfurt's Commerzbank tower.
"The pillars would cut through the plane, and that is all," said Sergei Polonsky, president of Mirax Group, describing the building's resilience to a September 11-style attack.
"Regardless of how many planes hit it, it won't fall down," he said, standing in the shadow of one of the partially completed, reinforced concrete pillars ringing the perimeter of tower B, the smaller of the two.
A recent event saw the official presentation of the big name contractors that will work on the Federation project by Mirax.
They include construction manager Turner Construction, a division of the New York headquartered high-rise construction specialists, structural engineers Thornton-Tomasetti, ThyssenKrupp AG's elevators division and Liebherr, who will be providing cranes.
Mirax have worked on a number of upscale apartment and office projects in Moscow.
Federation Tower is emblematic of the construction boom, which has transformed Moscow's skyline in recent years and filled the city's streets with the rumble of building work.
The skyscraper will form the focal point of the sprawling Moscow City development -- a glass and steel assembly of high-rises-in-the-making, designed as Moscow's answer to Wall Street or the City of London.
http://i.a.cnn.net/cnn/2005/BUSINESS/07/17/moscow.tower.ap/story.vert.fed.tower2.jpg
The tower will be 420 meters high and the tallest building in Europe.
Sergey Tchoban, from architects Tchoban Voss, said that while it may contrast with Moscow's older buildings, the Federation project would blend in with the capital's eclectic style.
"Moscow is a city of silhouettes ... we hope it will complement and enrich the structure of the city's silhouette," Tchoban said.
But for now it's a silhouette in the making -- tower B is just two floors high and swarming with Turkish and Chinese builders.
So far Mirax Group are not saying how much of the building's office space is taken, but Polonsky was confident that as the biggest building in the capital, they would not need to take out ads in the newspapers.
The Associated Press.

Moscow to join tallest tower club
German architects designed the state-of-the-art complex
A Chinese construction firm has signed a deal to build an 87-storey tower in Moscow, which the developers say will be the tallest in Europe.
A Turkish firm - Ant Yapi - is already building the foundations for the $530m (£305m) Federation Complex.
The tower will soar to 340 metres (1,115 feet), attached to a stiletto-like central spire. There will be a neighbouring 53-storey tower.
The complex will house offices, luxury flats, a hotel and leisure facilities.
Security features
The developer, Russia's Mirax Group, says the glass-clad towers will have state-of-the-art design features which will protect them against any 9/11-style terrorist attack.
"Regardless of how many planes hit it, it won't fall down," said Mirax president Sergei Polonsky, quoted by the Associated Press.

FEDERATION COMPLEX
Height: 340m
Total area: 346,770 sq m
Location: "Moscow City" business centre, Krasnopresnenskaya embankment
Owner: Mirax-City joint stock company
Mirax signed a construction contract in Beijing on Monday with the Chinese Engineering Construction Corporation. The work is expected to take two years, Itar-Tass news agency reports.
The skyscraper was designed by German architects Peter Schweger and Sergei Tchoban.
They say the structure will be fire-resistant for 10 hours.
Currently the tallest building in Europe is Frankfurt's 260-metre Commerzbank tower.
Funding for the project came from Vneshtorgbank, which will occupy 30 storeys of the tallest skyscraper. Ten other major Russian firms will also have offices in the building, Russia's RIA Novosti news agency reports.
The Hyatt hotel chain plans to turn 44 floors into a five-star hotel.
