Melbourne, Australia has many acres of parkland around the Central Business District, Downtown. All have their own appeal, from the grand traditional Royal Botanic Garden, Gardens with memorials, Music Bowl, Melbourne Park Tennis Centre in the former Olympic Park to Albert Park where the Grand Prix is run each year. So you can find peace and tranquility or throngs of sport fans a short distance in any direction.

QUEZON NATIONAL FOREST PARK. Just 180-km southeast of Manila in Atimonan, Quezon Province lies one of the most beautiful mountains in southern Luzon that has been declared a Game Refuge and Bird Sanctuary. The present area of the park is 984 hectares (4 sq. miles) with its highest point at 366-m above sea level.

The park has an intricate system of caves, waterfalls, springs, creeks, gorges, and ravines set against a quaint backdrop of lush greenery. The park teems with flora and fauna, from butterflies to birds and monkeys tugging along their young while crossing the street. The trees are so tall and huge that they make the zigzag road darker than it should be. The park is also the site of Pinagbanderahan, where the Filipino Revolutionaries planted the Philippine flag in their fight against the Spanish colonizers. Quezon National Forest Park encompasses the western municipalities of Atimonan, Pagbilao, and Padre Burgos. It can be reached by walking for about one hour from the road to the top of a ridge.

My personal favorite is Koekamp, near Central Station. I always refer to it as Central Park though that's not its common nickname :D
There are some very exciting high-rise projects going on in the area (near the tall buildings on the photo) so the view is going to be much improved some 5 years from now!

Pershing Square Park, Downtown Los Angeles. It is one of the beautifull park in the country. I love to visit this park on regular basis.

PONDS OF IXELLES
Brussels, Belgium

The ponds of Ixelles offer a unique architectural and artistic setting. They are located between the Avenues Général-de-Gaulle and Eperons-d'Or, they are an extension of the gardens of the Abbey of la Cambre. At the end of the first pond, the neoclassical façades with their triangular pediments are an original transition between the Chaussée d'Ixelles and the residential area of the ponds. On the side of the ponds, another scenery : the houses, built in 1870-1880 in an eclectic style and red bricks were designed by Victor Besme. We can also discover houses in a Flemish neo-renaissance style, art nouveau and art deco, with, as main representative, the building of the National Broadcasting Institute on the Place Flagey.

Vondelpark, Amsterdam. Without a doubt the favourite park in Amsterdam. The park was opened in 1865, and yearly, the park has around 10 million visitors.

The Clingendael Park is an old landed estate with the largest Japanese Garden in the Netherland. This is one of my favorites in The Hague because of the old trees and beatufull colours!

Zagreb has numerous beautiful parks, especially in the old part of the city. The layout of the 19th century urban core is dominated by the so called "green horseshoe", a series of 7 parks and a small botanical garden. Here are some of them:

1. Zrinjevac is the most popular of the parks on the green horsehoe and the one closest to the main city square. It features 3 fountains, a music pavillon and numerous busts of famous Croats. The park is surounded by fine public buildings, including the Archeological Museum and the Croatian Academy of Arts and Science

2. King Tomislav Square is located on the SE edge of the horseshoe, in front of the Main Rail Station. It is named after the first Croatian king and features an art pavillon on the northen edge, a large fountain and the statue of King Tomislav.

3. Botanical gardens
Small, but beautiful, Zagreb Botanical Garden (Botanički vrt) was founded in 1890 and maintained by the College of Natural Sciences. Its area covers 4.7 hectares and it was created as an English-style garden. The collection contains over 10 000 plant species of which 1800 are tropical plants from all over the word.

On the eastern edge of the city centre, approximately 2,7 miles from the main square, lies the large forest-park Maksimir. It was founded in 1787 by the bishop Maksimilijan Vrhovec and is the oldest public park in SE Europe ( although technically Zagreb belongs to Central Europe ). Bishop envisaged a French-style park with geometrical layout, but it was redesigned by the Bishop Juraj Haulik who created an English-style park of magnificant beauty, dubbed "Little Versailles" by the guests from Vienna. A ZOO was added in 1925.

Many cities have great parks... such as New York's Central Park. Detroit also has a Fredrick Law
Olmsted designed park called Belle Isle, the nations largest city island park.

But in an eastern suburb of Detroit, on the Canadian "water" border with Canada, there is a small park
in the suburb of 60,000 known as St. Clair Shores, which has a 9 km waterfront on a lake connecting
Lake Huron and Lake Erie... called Lake St. Clair, which is only 30km x 30km in size. And among the 4
parks my city has along the waterfront (besides enough canals and marinas to house the worlds
largest collection of pleasure crafts (70,000)), there is a very small park only about 50 ft. wide and
200 ft. deep called Champine Park. Although you can only walk there (no parking) or take your bicycle
there, there isn't much to look at in the park itself....

But the view from the railings and 3 park benches is very calming... as you look out onto some of the
islands of the largest freshwater delta in the world (St. Clair River delta)...

... or on a rare day where there is atmospheric refraction, we can see beyond the horizon, to the
Canadian shore beyond that is not always visible to us... such as this wind turbine farm on the
Canadian shore... far past the horizon... (taken with a telephoto lens)

Since most folks have never heard of this lake... here's a satellite image showing the fist of lower
Ontario smashing into Detroit just south of this "6th Great Lake" where the lake turns into a river (only
one of 2 places where Canada is south of the USA). The images were taken from the eastern side of
the lake.

Also, in this satellite image at the bottom, that spike of land pointing into Lake Erie, is called Pointe

Zrinjevac Park in Zagreb (Croatia)

Zrinjevac and Nikola Subic Zrinski Square, Zagreb's square and park avenue with plane trees, is part of the so-called. Green or Lenuci Horseshoe, which consists of seven Zagreb downtown squares. It covers an area of 12 540 m2.

With the northern tier states meteorological placed 1884th as a gift to the military physician, Dr. Adolf Holzer.

The southern part of the bust Zrinjevac setteled important Croatian personalities: Julius Klović Andrew Medulića, Krsto Frankopan Nicholas Jurisic Kukuljevića Sakcinskog John and John Marjoram.

In the middle of the park, there is a music pavilion, set the 1891st year.

Well I'll kick things off with my favourite park in Townsville, which is Queens Gardens. Its just so ridiculously...green :) Heaps of shady trees and tropical plants, some hedge mazes, some avaries. Once you step through the gates you feel so seperated from the surrounding urban environment. Heres a photo of Queens Gardens from Castle Hill (click to enlarge):

The Haga Park/Hagaparken is a vast and popular nature area in Solna, north of Stockholm, with large parks, lakes, woods and gardens. Within the park is Haga Palace, King Gustav III's Pavilion, the Chinese Pavilion, the Echo Temple, an older castle ruin (which is not really a ruin as it is the remains of a castle never finished) and several other interesting buildings on the grounds (as the peculiar Copper Tents and also the Butterfly House). Included in the Haga Park is also the Royal Burial Ground of the Swedish Royal family (since 1922), where several members and ancestors of the present Swedish royal Bernadotte family rest.
Hagaparken has historically been favoured by Swedish royalty, especially Gustav III who founded it and developed it 1780-1797, and by the famous troubadour Carl Michael Bellman, a contemporary of Gustav III, who is much associated with Haga due to the lyrics of his compositions, poems and his writings. The song Fjäriln vingad is entirely dedicated to the park.

Two of my favorite parks here in Singapore are the Southern Ridges and Punggol Waterway Park.

Southern Ridges is a series of interconnected parks located at the southern part of the city and offers nice vistas of the cityscape - ideal for walks and jogging with friends.

Punggol Waterway Park is at Singapore's northeastern side and offers nicely-landscaped green spaces around natural and man-made waterways. This is my favorite biking spot.

In my small city of Salisbury, the best, and by far busiest park in the city is the Elizabeth Gardens, alsthough Churchill Gardens can also get just as busy.

Built in the 1950's the park contains numerous plants, trees, a playground and a man made river with an island. It also used to have a nice ha-ha wall, but this has recently been demolished. Starting in November 2012, the whole park, as well as the small garden next door to it is undergoing a massive refurbishment, and presently the whole park has been torn up, so these pictures are old now. I also have no idea what the park is to look like as there are no renders, but it's to be finished by next month, so it shall be intresting to see the results.

The other park in the city that is also the busiest. Churchill Gardens is by far the largest park in the city. I think it was built in the 1960's as it's in the "newer" part of the city.

Whilst nice, this park is a bit more neglected than the Elizabeth Gardens in Downtown, and some parts are falling to pieces. In the 1980's/ early 1990's the park was condidered dangerous as well due to it being situated next to the roughest part of the city, with a few people even being murdered. Nevertheless the park is still really popular haha :lol:
