Hello everybody

I could have post this question at the 'travel & geography' section of the forum but I wanted to reach some Austrian people :).
In july I'm planning a trip to Vienna. I want to stay there a couple of days but than I want to go to Budapest by train. I searched on the website of the Austrian railways (oebb.at) but I can't find a price for this trip. Is it expensive to do? Does anyone have experience with it?

Thanks for replying!

Hi there Encore!

I just checked online and it says 19€ online, however I think it's a special online booking offer. I believe the normal price is 34€, but next time I'm at a railway station I'll ask for you, because the website just confused me.

19 euro is cheap! I hope I can book tickets online from Belgium.
Does every train to Budapest stop in Bratislava?
If you think of it, it would be very kind of you to check the normal rates in the station!

They do not stop in Bratislava. That's another train line.

Thank you so much for your help!
I've booked it online now. It's € 76 for 2 persons go and return. I think it's quit cheap for 2! Looking forward to it!

Hello there,

Since I'm just another Belgian trying to get some advice on travelling in Austria, I just decided to post it here instead of opening another topic.

This summer I was offered a place at an educational program in Graz that'll last for 2 weeks. Since that's a nice trip coming from Belgium, and since our voyages are paid for, me and two others would like to do an additional trip afterwards, visiting Salzburg for 2 days, Linz for 1 day and Vienna for a good 2 days. The "problem" is: our plane out of Vienna leaves at 06h55 a.m. on a friday morning, without the possibility to check in the day before (:bash: Brussels Airlines). Since that practically implies taking the S-bahn at 4:30 at Wien Mitte, we won't be able to get a lot of sleep, and we were simply considering to skip the sleeping part, drop off our bags at some safe in a railroad station, and enjoy ourselves in the Vienna nightlife.

This is where I ask for your opinions: do you think this is worth skipping the sleep? Could you recommend some places to go, or are there other things to consider?

Thank you!

You could just roam the streets with a bottle of wine. I do that from time to time and it's always a romatic and cheap way of spending a night. ;)

Edit: Just to clarify: This is a serious proposal!

Its certainly, cheap, gets you drunk, but I am not entirely sure if I share your concept of "romantic" ;)

Well, YOU don't have to share it. Certain people I know DO share it. ;)
