JLOUSA @ SSP

Metro Vancouver has been working on it's 2041 plan for the region. There have been numerous meeting and there are still a few left. Just wanted to share with you the draft plan. There will be a few changes to it but this should give you a very good idea of what's in store.

PS I suggest you d/l the file first before opening it as it's quite large (~5mb)

That post looks familiar. :ohno:

I don't mind moving stuff from ssp to here but at least quote the source, or reword it and don't copy my post word for word.

That's why I don't move posts from the other site to here because I don't want to make mistakes. :)

Too long to read in detail, but it seems a rehashing of the urban development principles most of us talk about all the time (development along transit corridors, increase density, mixed use, live where you work, greenbelts, public transport, pedestrian/bike friendliness, etc, etc.).

These are all good, but the key will be the sticks and carrots that the various levels of government are willing to use to execute the draft plans and how much taxation businesses and citizens are willing to bear to carry them out. And then, of course, there is the law of unintended consequences, that would encourage people to vote with their feet should housing and the cost of living become too high.

I do applaud long term planning. I think only the Japanese look ahead to fifty year time horizons.
