I'm going to guess that they will at least continue to play the Yanks in Saprissa. I mean, did you see how scared they were. :ohno: Why give them the comfort & safety of a track around the field. :bash:

This is no doubt a good stadium. However the roof only covers two sides not all sides. What is the capacity? As a national-grade one I think it should at least hold 60000.

Whats the catch why is it a gift from the Chinese Republic? taiwan? What's Costa Rica giving in return? Support in the UN? nice stadium

They changed diplomatic recognition from Taiwan to China. China also agreed to buy $100+ million in Costa Rican bonds for the change.

The stadium was a gift from The People's Republic of China as a symbol of appreciation for Costa Rica's decision to re-establish diplomatic relations with them, and breaking all relations with Taiwan.

All costs, design and labor are from China. Awesome gift.

This video taken from a local newscast shows some aerial shots.

The roof will be covered by 30.000 acrylic sheets, the stadium will be inaugurated on march 2011, even though the construction is planed to be completed on December 2010 or January 2011.

que pena que los chinos les tivieran que regalar un estadio, acaso no hay inversionista para hacerlo o deplano el gobierno no cuenta con algo de recursos para construir un estadio tan pequeño

Estás equivocado negritochiva, ni caridad, ni excusa de nada, me parece muy inoportuno y desinformado el comentario; primero, no conocés la idiosincrasia costarricense para afirmar eso, la razón por la que en CR nunca se ha construido hasta ahora un estadio "grande" al menos para nosotros es porque el estado no podría presupuestar ni 83 millones, ni 20, ni siquiera 3 millones de dólares para construir un estadio sin que la mayoría de la población lo considerara un gasto superfluo; así que, si el gobierno de China, que ya de por sí suele ofrecer este tipo de regalos ofrece la oportunidad, porqué no aprovecharla. Un estadio de este nivel (aparte del nacional) financiado con capital privado nacional es utópico, conociendo los recursos económicos de los equipos de fútbol nacionales.

Segundo, en Costa Rica tenemos muchas empresas constructoras y personal capacitado para hacer una obra de este calibre y mucho, MUCHO mayores, para muestra un botón: MECO es una compañía costarricense que ganó una licitación para la ampliación del canal de Panamá.

Tercero, en lo que a nosotros los ticos respecta, el estadio es nuestro, no es chino, aunque sea por China que lo tengamos tal cual está quedando, así como no necesitamos construir con nuestras propias manos nuestra casa para considerarla nuestro hogar, para nosotros el Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica SIEMPRE será NUESTRO Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica.

Si vos querés considerar la coyuntura histórica que facilitó la construcción del estadio como caridad, es cosa tuya, al margen de eso, el estadio nacional es solo el aspecto más visible de los vínculos bilaterales entre CR y China, y a éstas alturas no podemos decir si el estadio es acaso lo menos importante de todo.

nunca puse en duda la capasidad de las empresas constructoras de costarrica y mucho menos su mano de obra, tampoco dije que el estadio era chino y no de ustedes concuerdo con tigo en que este es su estadio y de nadie mas aunque este financiado y construido por ellos, pero repito y no deja de llamarme la atencion que ninguna empresa privada tenga los recursos necesarios para financiar este tipo de obras es de llamar la atencion por que esta puede ser un inversion que tenga un retorno de capital seguro, asi que no creo que esto tenga que ver con desinformacion mia o la idiosincracia del pueblo de costarrica es unicamente que nunca habia visto que un pais regalara un estadio pàra estrechar lasos bilaterales y ofresco una disculpa si los ofendi al menciaonar que este era un acto de caridad solo me deje llevar por un comentario que se realizo con anterioridad

Tranquilidad, igualmente me disculpo si mal entendí tu comentario. Como te repito… una inversión de este nivel (80 - 100 millones de dólares) es inimaginable por la empresa privada para un país como CR, principalmente porque no es recuperable a mediano ni largo plazo y para el estado es aún más complicado, porque el gobierno estaría siendo tachado de despilfarrador por decir lo menos. El Estadio Nacional se ubica en un parque propiedad del estado, y solo ese factor fue motivo para que algunas personas recurrieran a los tribunales para evitar la construcción del estadio pese a que el viejo se hallaba en el mismo lugar.

Tristemente esa es también nuestra idiosincrasia, pese a todo el estadio está siendo un motivo de gran emoción para la mayoría de nosotros. Te invito a que participés o al menos ojees el hilo del estadio Nacional en el foro de CR.

It's a track stadium. The fans aren't inches from the field like they are at Saprissa. Fans can literally spit on the opposing players at Saprissa. Players fear for their safety. This won't be the case in the new stadium.

The stands are already built, but the scaffolding actually blocks the view. :D However, I'm not really sure if that's what you meant.

But, if I may ask, why are workers on those pics mostly Chinese? Where are Costa Ricans? Where?

That´s because the chinese government donate the entire stadium, it includes the labor from their hard work workers. The stadium when complete will cost around $85.000.000. All the materials came from china except the concrete. We are so glad to get the most important stadium in Latin America

They had to build heavy scaffolding on the stands just to construct the stadium's roof. And this stadium should be the cleanest in Central America.

the scaffolding was construct because the arch not was prefabricate, was emsable piece by piece(little) over this scaffolding, in other stadiums the arch was construct in the floor then emsable in the basement, and another reason is because the pieces are brought from Abroad in this case China.

That's right! It'll be used as home for our national team and events, but if we take the old National Stadium some clubs will use it eventually.

Beautiful stadium. Did they changed the seats color pattern?

I'm not sure about it. I know that what they are trying to do is to make it look as close as possible like the costarrican flag. One can see that the seats on the lower tier are red then a space with grey seats then the the upper tier is blue, if looked from above the red seats on the east side + the ones on the west side look like the wider red band on the flag with the grey and blue seats being the narrower white and blue bands on the flag.

I really don't know why they didn't use white as in the flag.

True! to me personally don't like that much, but at least that's something easily fixable ;)

Pink or not it's a beautiful venue....even though I dont appreciate the stands being too far from the pitch...yet, it's much much better than the horrendous "renovation" some brazilian stadia are under for the FIFA 2014 World Cup... like the one which is being carried out in my hometown...wish they just did away with the old thing and built a brand new one from scratch like this one righ here...:ohno::ohno::ohno:

1. Absolutely and IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) as well. And much more.

2. Not as far as we Know, however CRC will host the Central American games in 2013.

1.On March 26th Costa Rica will play against China and on the 29th they will play Argentina (with at least 7 of their main stars, including Messi himself)
It will be a whole week of events that will feature a track and field tournament (there's a big chance that Usain Bolt and other similar high profile athletes will be competing, but it's not official as of yet) A concert with Colombian super star "Shakira" among other activities such as high tech fire works from China, etc also will be part of the week long event.

2. Bermuda 419 (Cynodon dactylon x traansvalensis) reinforced with artificial fiber (fiber soil) to resist Damage, promote growth and drain more efficiently. Using TurfGrids reinforced turf in combination with sand caps (or layers).

No va a ser el caso compañero, aunque Colombia va estar representada, ya que entre los eventos inaugurales se efectuarán dos partidos de fútbol siendo el partido inaugural contra China habrá otro días después contra Argentina (ya está todo vendido) y por último se cerrará esa semana inaugural con un concierto con Shakira.

Nope, The first two matches will be against China and then Argentina (already sold out), however Colombia is represented by Shakira who will be performing at the opening week with her concert.

it's very nice, the best of central america i think but... i don't know... it have something that i don't like it so much maybe the athletic track... but the rest is very nice.. owe it to the chinise goverment haha.. congratulations ticos!!
