Kish Port to be dredged, new island to be created - Zawya (https://www.zawya.com/story.cfm?id=ZAWYA20060607044717)

07 June 2006
TEHRAN, June 6 (MNA) -- Iran's Persian Gulf port Kish will begin receiving bulk carriers by March 2007 through the implementation of the port's comprehensive plan, the managing director of the Kish Port and Airport Development and Management Company said on Tuesday.

Mehdi Chamanzad put the maximum capacity of the ships that will be able to enter the port in the future at 50,000 tons.

The comprehensive plan will be launched sometime between autumn 2006 and spring 2007, he explained.

Dredging operations will be carried out in the future to increase the depth of the water beside the docks to 14 meters, he added.

One million cubic meters of silt and mud will be removed during the dredging, which will be used to create a new artificial island near Kish, he stated.

Chamanzad said that the new island is being created to expand tourism and efforts are currently underway to find a suitable location.

About the project:

This project is a resort development near the south eastern tip of Kish Island, Iran. The site is divided into 2 parts, a larger irregular shaped bordered by roads on all sides and a smaller rectangular by a road and the beach. The larger site includes 2000 resort style services apartments, a themed hotel, commercial office buildings, shopping center, leisure facilities, private villas and low rise apartments. The smaller site will be transformed into a public park which provides facilities such as bicycle riding, roller skating, rock climbing and other outdoor sporting/leisure facilities. There will be also a Jetty extending into the water for fishing activities, a restaurant and leisure craft and water sport activities.

The housing market is slumped, even in kish, this is what the taxi driver in kish told me! so I don't really think they would go ahead and make something which has no demand (at least for the time being)

The prices will definately change in 5 years so I don't worry about this.

^^ No this is a separate project. Flower of the East construction is on hold right now. Flower of the east is supposed to have a very small marina island with villas and hotels built on it. This one has a much larger island area.

Dredging the port and building an artificial island seems like a good move, and Kish makes the most amount of sense for a project like this (unlike the rest of the proposed land reclamations) hope it reaches fruition...

Flower of the East construction is on hold right now
I read here that the project was stopped. Someone posted a article but it is in Farsi. Can somebody translate the important parts into English (German not necessary) for me?

I m sorry for this question, but is Kish big enough for so many holiday projects?

shugs
June 2nd, 2009, 02:06 PM
^How about asking for a translation in the FOE thread itself :poke:

I really don't think there is much else to do with the small amount of land Kish has other than build hotel, malls, restaurants and theme parks.

Heinz01
June 2nd, 2009, 02:47 PM
Sorry ...:wallbash: that s the translation, yes

Is it only valid for FOE? ;)

"In this article there is also written, that they started another big project(but smaller than this one) in Azar (a few months ago). This text is an interview with an environmentalist. He says, that the environment of the Kish island is in danger. He also says, that they destroyed many trees and the inhabitance of the corals and many other animals for the "Flower of the east" project . He points out, that with another project the environment of the island gets damaged.
After reading this I was really depressed for 2 reasons: 1.They stopped the project and 2.The environment of Kish is getting damaged... ."

^^for our own people maybe...

also Iran has many tourists from arab countries but also from Japan,China,Germany,Turkey, France, The netherlands, also Kish is a Tax free zone..
also their are around the world several tour agencies that plans every year trips to Iran a friend of me here in Belgium is planning to go this summer:)
the UAE is just sick I mean half of their residential buildings are empty and the skyline isn't even beautiful...

Iran is already one of the biggest industrial countries in the middle east..

many people love to visit Iran, but it's hard to get visa and also they haven't enough infomation, when I was in Kish their were full of Italian and French people in the hotel also I saw an Italian Tourist group in Tajrish ( tehran) walking into the malls, and when I go to Tehran from cologne the plane is full of germans especially on Mahan Air from Dusseldorf..
the main reason why the UAE is a tourist hotspot is not because of the freedom overthere but more becaus it's a tax free zone..

and besides we must start somewhere..:)

princeofpersia1

No no don't worry I am not politicising this thread I'm actually arguing economically, since we cannot outdo the UAE in tourism given the political frame we are talking about this seems like a waste of funds.
I mean how many tourists does Iran have annually? 1 million tops if at all!
Wouldn't you agree?

Cheers

With due respect, you politicized the thread the minute you put the Shah as your display picture.

Hypocrisy is the backbone of international law and human nature in everything from the NPT to anti waling and human rights and everything in between. Taking the high road in international affairs will often leave you subjected by special interests and their powerful friends. In the real world no quarter is given for gallantry, just ask the Inca or the Mayans.

yes, you are right, flower of the east didn't have A.N looking over it but from the things they say I doubt that this project would be ever finished! they say 80% of it is going to be supplied through finance, I'm not an economist, so this question arises for me as someone who is not familiar with these type of economic materials, what type of finance they mean?

as an Iranian, I will be glad to see that Kish is growing rapidly, but the things they say are just words and words are cheap. I've been to kish 6 times and the last time was last year's summer, I really didn't see any signs of rapid development as they claim. but let's be optimistic and wait to see what will happen.

by the way, I don't like talking about politics because here isn't the right place to do so but I want to remind you something about the sentence "with the writing ' PERSIAN GULF' big enough to entertain him", last time I checked Pres. A.N was the one who sat in a conference under the title of "the Conference of the Arabic governments of the Gulf" . so I don't think that the writing is a matter of importance for him

That's exactly where the problem arises! They are never honest with people. They said that the flower of the east is on hold because of environmental issues but we all know that the reason was imposed sanctions not environmental issues.

anyway, does any one have any pics of it being under construction? I really like to see how the construction process is going.

Have they started dredging the port yet..? It is probably the most key part of the project, it will provide the material that will be dumped off coast to create the 'island' and will allow much larger vessels to dock at the port bringing in more revenue for Kish itself.

Dredging and construction work begin in Iranian port

January 14, 2005

Dredging and dock construction operations have started in the Iranian multipurpose port of Kish.

The project, which includes building a harbor in the northwestern bank of Kish Island, will help the local fishing industry.

The dredging operation, which is being implemented by an unspecified Dutch company, will require excavation of 500,000 cubic metres of material.

The project is due to be completed by the end of this year.

Iranian news sources say the port of Kish will be capable of receiving bulk carriers from next March following execution of a series of improvements at the port, including dredging.

The managing director of the Kish Port and Airport Development and Management Company said ships of up to 50,000 deadweight will be able to use the port in future.

Dredging operations will be carried out to increase the depth of the water beside the docks to 14m.

Sanctions ineffective in process of Kish Free Trade Zone's expansion
07 October 2010

Kish - Managing Director of Kish Free Trade ZoneKish Free Trade Zone said here Wednesday 1000+% growth in investments in non-industrial businesses here and 165% growth in industrial sectors proves that sanctions have been quite ineffective at least in Kish FTZFTZ development plans. According to IRNA Economic Desk reporter in Kish, Mohammad-Ali Mohebbi who was speaking at a press conference participated by a large number of foreign media reporters, added, "The new policies to be applied in the KFTZFTZ include the establishment and expansion of appropriate infrastructure facilities for economic activities at this beautiful island, that have been made possible relying on heavy Iranian and foreign investments."

He referred to the signing of the contract for the country's hugest investment project in Kish, namely the Persian Gulf Beach Township whose value is 60.000 billion rials (about 6 billion US dollars) between the KFTZFTZ and the investors of the private sector as an example.

Mohebbi added, "This project includes construction of vast scale recreational facilities, five and six star hotels, residential sites, shopping malls, sport complexes and... focusing on expansion of the island's tourist attraction, whose entire contracts have been singed during the past few months and its location is on the west side of the Kish Island."
