:cheers1: :applause:

Obviously, PAL has already established a safety record being in the business for decades. I believe that some like myself would rather take a bigger bird over a smaller aircraft because it gives you an added peace of mind thinking you're more safer in a bigger aircrafts. I don't think it's only because it is new or old. If I know that an aircraft is well maintained with the safety equipements and standards are all up to date, I wouldn't mind taking an older aircraft. Smaller aircrafts such as ATR or Q300 tend to not make you feel uneasy when it encounter turbulance. I mean you still feel it in bigger aircrafts but it's not as bad as smaller aircrafts.

If you think about it, the balcony allows airport officials to have a peek out onto the airport premises. If you're lucky enough to get in, it would probably be one of the best spots to planespot in the entire airport.

Pay for CEB bookings through ATM, over-the-counter
Offers most number of bank options for payment centers

Asia’s third largest low-cost carrier, Cebu Pacific (CEB), recently launched its payment center option for the convenience of the traveling public. This newest innovation from the Gokongwei-owned airline offers the most number of options for passengers to pay for their bookings.

Now, every Juan can book their desired flights online or through the reservations hotline, and pay via CEB’s partner banks.

Payments can be made through the ATMs of 24 Bancnet and 13 Megalink member banks. The complete list of member banks can be found in www.cebupacificair.com/products/paymentcenters.html .

Passengers can also pay for bookings over the counter at Robinsons Savings Bank, Banco de Oro and Metrobank (for those who wish to pay in cash), or through Bancnet online.

“We are doing this in order to widen our reach and make online booking an option for those who have no credit cards. This option is also available when CEB has seat sales,” said CEB VP for marketing and distribution Candice Iyog.

Passengers can book their preferred flight schedules on www.cebupacificair.com or through (02)7020-888 or (032)230-8888. Upon reaching the payment page or when asked, choose the preferred partner bank.

The website or reservations agent will provide a 14-digit reference number and the total amount to be paid, which has to be paid on the same day of the booking via the payment centers. The confirmed itinerary or ticket will then be sent to the passenger’s email address the next day.

CEB’s other products and services that can be paid for through the payment centers are prepaid excess baggage, preferred seat selection, Sports Equipment luggage option, Go Lite fares, Fun Tours and TravelSure Insurance.

The leading domestic airline in the Philippines, CEB flies to 32 domestic and 14 international destinations from Manila, Clark, Cebu and Davao.

Christmas comes early in Cebu Pacific
Travel this Nov-Dec for only P888

The Philippines’ leading domestic carrier, Cebu Pacific (CEB), brings Christmas early to Filipinos with an P888 ‘Go Lite’ seat sale to any domestic destination from September 26-30, 2009. Those with check-in luggage will just add P100 upon booking.

Travel period is from November 1- December 31, 2009.

The seat sale covers all CEB domestic destinations, including sought-after tourist spots such as Kalibo (Boracay), Busuanga and Puerto Princesa (Palawan) and Siargao.

CEB also flies to Cauayan, Calbayog and Catarman, and from Cebu to Legazpi, General Santos, Roxas and Cotabato.

“Increased local travel can definitely benefit the tourism and economy of the 32 domestic destinations CEB flies to. Companies can have out-of-town Christmas parties; friends and families can go on leisure travel before the Christmas rush. We hope our passengers can explore the possibilities for travel this November and December,” said CEB VP for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog.

“This seat sale can also be booked online and paid via our payment centers. This new option in our website is specifically for those who have no credit cards or prefer to pay in cash,” she added.

Passengers can book their flights via www.cebupacificair.com or reservations hotlines (02) 7020-888 or (032) 230-8888, and pay through CEB ticketing offices, online, or via ATM or over the counter in partner banks.

Partner banks include Robinsons Savings Bank, Banco de Oro and Metrobank (for over the counter payments), and Bancnet and Megalink members (for ATM payments).
Gokongwei-owned airline, CEB, has flown over 36 million passengers since its inception in 1996. It flies passengers to its extensive network both here and abroad from Manila, Clark, Cebu and Davao, using the youngest fleet of aircraft in the Philippines.

I don't really understand why some pinoys would expect a full meal in a less than one hour flight? It would be costly if in every single flights they have, a full meal is served. I mean in mid morning, would you expect a full heavy meal?

In most of out domestic/regional flights here in the US with less than an hour flight, we usually get a tiny pack of salty - crunchy pretzel that taste like dirt to me (since I hate those pretzels) and a cup or soda, juice or water which is most of the time, just a half of the content of the canned soda so, in actuality, you're just drinking mostly water from the ice.

Nice pics posted by blueleo btw, I enjoyed it. Osamiz airport interior looks nice and clean.

Filipino lifestyle and eating habits are merely different from western populace but I, for one personally not expecting heavy inflight meals for a short haul flights like MNL-OZC for that would be too much to ask. ZEST AIR PURCHASES ADDITIONAL 6 MA60 AIRCRAFT
Fleet expansion to service more routes

SIGNING CEREMONY OF 6 MA60 AIRCRAFT BETWEEN ASIAWIDE AIRWAYS AND XAICZEST AIR President & CEO Alfredo M. Yao recently signed an Agreement for the delivery of an additional 6 MA60 aircraft. The ceremony was held in Manila with Xi'an Aircraft International Corporation (XAIC) President Jiang Jianjun signing on behalf of the aircraft manufacturer.

"It was only a few months ago that we accepted delivery of the initial 5 MA60s in October and December 2008. Today becomes significant because the new orders will be delivered also in October and December this year." said Yao during the ceremonies attended by other top officials of XAIC, the PROC Embassy and Zest Air.

During the cocktails which followed, PROC Embassy Counselor Wu Shengping and XAIC President Jiang reassured Yao of the Chinese government and XAIC's full support for Zest Air's fleet expansion program to cater to their growing market. "We will be there to ensure the successful implementation of their project" said Jiang.

Today, the XAIC has emerged as one of China's top aircraft manufacturer with their production and supply of Airbus320 wing parts and access doors, Boeing737 vertical tail stabilizer and sections of the ATR's fuselage.

CEB on-time performance hits 90%

Asia’s third largest low-cost carrier, Cebu Pacific (CEB), hit a 90.1% high when it comes to its on-time performance (OTP) last month.

The CEB August 2009 OTP statistic progressed better than several Asia Pacific low-cost carriers. CEB also fared well on its on-time performance for July with 86.7%.

These figures are based on CEB’s on-the-dot departures and departures within 15 minutes of the scheduled departure time. According to industry standards, a flight is considered to have departed from the designated bay no more than 15 minutes from the scheduled departure time.

Available online data shows that the average July 2009 OTP for North American carriers is at 77.6%, with the highest OTP registering at 93.6% for Hawaiian Airlines (http://www.bts.gov/press_releases/2009/).

CEB VP for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog said, “It is a company-wide goal for Cebu Pacific to continue providing world-class on-time performance. We continue to look for ways to further improve our OTP. This way, our flights become even more convenient for passengers taking direct and connecting flights.”

Leading domestic airline, CEB, currently has 1,600 domestic and 400 international flights every week. This includes flights from Clark to Bangkok, Macau, Singapore and Hong Kong, as well as direct flights from Cebu to 20 domestic destinations.

Passengers can book their flights via www.cebupacificair.com or reservations hotlines (02) 7020-888 or (032) 230-8888, and pay through CEB ticketing offices, online, or via ATM or over the counter in partner banks. For more information, check the website.

Be cool Ariane .... i just quoted what the Airport manager said. Of course the actual upgrade wont happen overnight. i guess he was just too excited and ambitious for his plan for the airport but what the heck... He should learn from you guys. Dapat mag-seminar ulit siya hehehe. Sasabihin ko sa kanya ito hehe besides. lets not underestimate the potential of this airport. Ozamiz airport was back in operation for only 2 years now and look at the volume of its passengers. Palakasan lang naman sa itaas ( hindi po si Bro ni Santino ) yan kung aling airport ang bigyan ng malaking budget para ma-fully developed :righton: :naughty:

OZC is currently classified as a community airport (feeder airport in the old system). What it will be upgraded to is a Class 1 principal (major domestic) airport, or trunkline airports in the old system.

DOTC reclassifies RP's airports

By Lynda B. Valencia

MANILA, March 21 (PNA) -- Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Leandro R. Mendoza ordered recently the reclassification of airports to improve the management of the nautical airport system as well as upgrade, modernize and enhance the civil aviation safety in the Philippines.

Mendoza said the new classification of airports is pursuant to the Philippine Transport Strategic Study and the Civil Aviation Master Plan developed in 1992, identifying the need to revise the country’s airport classification.

The need for classification was also reiterated in the recent Master Plan Study on the Strategy for the Improvement of National Airports in the Philippines conducted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Under the issued Department Order No. 2008-06, the criteria that shall be considered in the reclassification of airports are: simplicity, transparency, degree of rigidity, ease of up-date, linkage with facility planning, linkage with policy formulation, and linkage with regulatory requirements.

The Air Transportation Office (ATO), which was renamed Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) by virtue of Republic Act No. 9497, otherwise known as CAAP Act of 2008, will initiate the up-dating of classification of national airports in the Philippines.

Updating of the reclassification will be done every three years or as the need arises.

Based on the criteria, the new classification are as follows:

International airports – These are airports with border control facility used for international flights such as Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), Davao, Zamboanga, Puerto Princesa, General Santos, Laoag, Clark, Subic and Kalibo.

Principal airports – These are airports used for domestic scheduled flights. Old Airport Classification under the ATO's System.

The ATO system divided airports into five classifications under two broad categories: international and domestic airports. These two broad categories were further divided into the following airport types:

* Primary international airports are the primary international gateways into the Philippines.
* Secondary international airports are airports that are capable of handling international flights but are not designated as primary international gateways. These airports may or may not service actual international flights and may or may not have active customs and immigration facilities.
* Trunkline airports or major commercial domestic airports are domestic airports in major cities around the Philippines that are capable of supporting large aircraft. These are, in most cases, the only domestic airports with an instrument landing system.
* Secondary airports or minor commercial domestic airports are domestic airports in smaller cities and municipalities usually capable of handling smaller propeller aircraft. Some airports in this classification are capable of supporting jet aircraft. However, these airports are only open from sunrise until sunset, usually requiring notification of airport authorities if nighttime landing is a necessity.
* Feeder airports are domestic airports capable only of handling small propeller aircraft. Many of these airports are small airstrips serving far-flung islands.

CEB inks partnership with Canadian-based NAVTECH
New flight planning software to increase flight efficiency

Cebu Pacific (CEB), the leader in the Philippine aviation industry, recently signed an agreement with Ontario-based Navtech, Inc. for the use of the Navtech Flight Planning (NFP) software which will further improve operating efficiencies.

NFP is a superior state-of-the-art flight planning software, provided by Navtech, a leader in flight operations software serving more than 350 airline and aviation services customers.

Navtech CEO Mike Hulley said, “Navtech combined Cebu Pacific’s mixed fleets onto a single platform, enabling our new mapping technologies and online filing functionality to support their dispatchers.”

Their product enables CEB pilots to use dynamic route construction functionality and optimized fuel burn calculations. The software also has integrated graphics and textual weather for the most efficient and optimized routes.

“CEB passengers will definitely benefit from this new technology because it allows us to sustain our low fare advantage in the market. Using this world class technology helps us to save on fuel and other operating costs, which we continue to pass on, in the form of lower fares, to our passengers,” said CEB VP for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog.

CEB is the third-largest low-cost carrier in Asia, flying to 32 domestic and 14 key international destinations in the ASEAN region. It has a current fleet of 21 Airbus and 8 ATR72-500 aircraft, and expects delivery of 19 more aircraft from 2010-2014.

For more information on its flights, check out www.cebupacificair.com or call its reservations hotlines (02) 7020-888.

Air Philippines sets refleeting program

By Lenie Lectura, Business Mirror | 10/06/2009

MANILA - Air Philippines, the low-cost partner of flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL), will undergo a refleeting program before the end of the year.

“Air Philippines will soon announce its refleeting plan since it is a separate company. It will operate on its own. It will be a whole new Air Phil.,” said PAL president Jaime Bautista.

Air Philippines is 99% owned by the Lucio Tan Group of Companies. PAL, on the other hand, is 95% owned by the group.

Air Philippines, for the moment, has ceased operations. “Yes, it has stopped flying the 737-200 jet aircraft because these consume more jet fuel than other types of aircraft. It needs to be replaced,” Bautista said.

PAL Express, another low-fare unit of PAL, is currently flying the routes assigned to Air Philippines, added Bautista.

Both PAL and Air Philippines, said the PAL executive, are looking to strengthen their operations with modest fleet and route network buildups despite predictions by the International Air Transport Association of a dip in industry earnings due to higher fuel prices.

The two airlines have had close complementation in their flight operations, feeding passengers into each other’s networks and ensuring seamless connections via their joint hubs at Naia Centennial Terminal 2 in Manila and Mactan International Airport in Cebu.

Bautista said the partnership of PAL and Air Philippines yielded operational synergies that enabled the alliance to deliver a superior product to passengers.

Air Philippines carried 254, 244 passengers in the first half of the year out of the possible 335,392 seats while PAL transported 3,207,060.

The company used to operate Bombardier Q300 turbo-prop aircraft but these are now being operated by PAL Express, which carried a total of 623,000 passengers from April 2008 to March 2009.

SONA infrastructure promises hang in the balance

By Carmela Fonbuena 10/07/2009 8:22 PM

MANILA - President Arroyo may step down in June 2010 without completing the infrastructure projects she promised in her recent—and last—State of the Nation Addresses (SONA).

According to a paper by the House of Representatives think tank Congressional Planning and Budget Department (CPBD), “Out of the 149 SONA infrastructure projects that the President promised to complete by 2010, only 39 are officially completed—the bulk of which are ports (21). A greater number are ongoing (67) or still in pre-civil works (43).”

“Given the status of the SONA infrastructure projects, it may be unlikely that these projects that these projects will be completed before the Arroyo term ends,” reads the newly released CPBD paper Dimensions of the FY 2010 NG Budget.

The reason? Malacanang's own proposed national budget for 2010 slashed allocation for capital outlay—allocation for new buildings and other long term assets, including equipment and infrastructure—by as much as P52.8 billion.

“It is hard to attribute the decline in infrastructure spending for 2010 to the completion of SONA infrastructure projects. A huge cut could mean that some infrastructure projects may be left unfinished or that no new projects were introduced to give way to previous commitments,” the paper adds.

In the proposed P1.541 trillion budget for 2010, the following departments and special purpose funds suffered significant cuts in capital outlay—public works and highways (P30.9 billion), transportation and communication (P11.5 billion), “Economic Stimulus Fund” (P4.3 billion), State University and Colleges (P2.9 billion), Commission on Elections (P1.7 billion), education (P1 billion), and Priority Development Assistance Fund (P1 billion.)

The House plenary has started on Tuesday deliberations on the budget. “We are confident we will approve the proposed national budget by Friday next week (October 16),” House Speaker Prospero Nograles said in a statement on Wednesday.

Spend or save?

The CPBD echoed concerns against the cut on capital outlay expenditure, citing the need to sustain pump priming activities and the country's low infrastructure competitiveness rating. (Read: Solons question P50-B cut in 2010 capex budget)

In 2009, government officials and legislators packaged a P330 billion stimulus plan to cushion the local economy from the impact of the slowdown in the economic activities worldwide. Increased government spending has been one of the reasons the economic managers have cited why the Philippines avoided falling into recession.

House committee appropriations chair Quirino Rep. Junie Cua, who was initially opposed to the cuts on capital outlay allocations, joined Palace economic managers in defending the cuts.

“We'd like to spend more. But if we spend more, we would run the risk of a big fiscal deficit,” Cua said in Tuesday's plenary session in response to criticisms of Paranaque Rep. Roilo Golez that the 2010 budget is a “maintenance budget,” which does not respond to the needs of the times.

“The debt stock that we have is rather high compared to Thailand or Malaysia. In other words, while your observation may be true that this is a maintenance fund, this budget is proposed to ensure that legacy projects would be completed in the proper way and at the same time continue to provide macro-economic fundamentals for the next administration.

Storms worsen situation

The CPBD assessment does not include the impact of recent back-to-back storms, ‘Ondoy’ (international codename: Ketsana) and Pepeng (Parma). The damage wrought by the twin storms could have even worsened the fiscal situation.

Various camps have called for increased allocations for capital outlay—particularly for the departments of agriculture and public works and highways—if only to rehabilitate among others infrastructure and irrigation facilities damaged by the storms.

Congress is mulling to pass a P10 billion supplemental budget to respond to rehabilitation concerns.

“It is more than sufficient because many items in budget are still not used by the departments,” said Nograles. He said the committee on appropriations will meet on Monday, October 12, to discuss the supplemental budget. Congress is awaiting Malacanang's certification of availability of funds.

Cua said Malacang has committed that funds will be made available although the source of the funds remains unclear.

P10-B budget

Concerned that the supplemental budget would further increase the budget deficit, Bayan Muna Rep. Teodoro Casino previously called on the government to rethink the planned P10 billion supplemental budget.

"In principle, we share the concern na talagang kailangan dagdagan ang budget para sa response sa Ondoy. But we are not so sure that a supplemental budget in the amount of P10 billion is the proper way to do it," Casino said.

Casino said the government should first account for the P2 billion calamity fund for 2009. "Kung hindi maganda ang paggamit nito in the past, we want an assurance—kung may supplemental budget—na magagamit ito sa tamang paraan," Casino said.

Casino also asked for the break down of how the P10 billion supplemental fund will be spent and sourced. He wondered if this amount will be sourced from additional taxes or additional loans.

Casino cautioned against incurring more loans since the interest costs and volatility in rates eats on the budget share of government’s various departments.

Instead, he proposed alternatives such as realigning the special purpose funds or the road users’ tax.

Anakpawis Rep. Joel Maglunsod also reiterated calls for a moratorium on foreign debt servicing.

But House Speaker Nograles dismissed Maglunsod's proposal. "Why? We had disasters in Ormoc, where hundreds died and thousands were displaced. We had disasters in Panay due to typhoon Frank. Payatas suffered a landslide. There is war in Mindanao, where families are displaced and many have died. Even the Davao Death Squad killed almost one thousand. We didn't stop foreign debt payments, did we?"

CEB announces P888 seat sale to all domestic destinations

Gokongwei-owned Cebu Pacific (CEB) announces a ‘Go Lite’ seat sale for only P888 to any domestic destination from October 9-12, 2009, for travel from November 1 to December 31, 2009.

Those with check-in luggage will just add P100 upon booking.

CEB flies to 32 domestic destinations in total from Manila, Clark, Cebu and Davao. There are also 20 direct flights from Cebu to key destinations in Visayas and Mindanao, as well as to Legazpi, Puerto Princesa, and Clark.

Among its many domestic destinations are Catarman and Calbayog in Samar, which CEB increased in frequency from thrice weekly to daily flights; Tuguegarao in Cagayan Valley, up from daily to 11 times weekly flights; and to Naga in Bicol, now thrice daily flights.

Moreover, CEB flies to Kalibo (Boracay) seven times daily.

“Be it for vacation or for going home, our domestic destinations, routes and frequencies offer the most choices to the Filipino passenger. By offering our trademark low fares consistently to the general market, we hope that Every Juan will get to experience the convenience and comfort of air travel,” said CEB VP for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog.

“Passengers who wish to book online but don’t have credit cards may still do so and pay through our partner banks via ATM or over-the-counter transactions. This is one innovation that will benefit those looking for ease in booking and paying for their CEB flights ,” she added.

For more information, visit the website at www.cebupacificair.com or call the reservation hotline (02)7020-888 or (032)230-8888.

CEB is Asia’s third-largest low-cost carrier with the youngest fleet of aircraft, comprised of 21 Airbus and 8 ATR-72-500 aircraft, and the lowest year-round fares in the Philippines.

Thanks for the info Chevy .. ang lupit niyan hehehe. i already tried taking both Q series and ATR planes many times on Ozamiz-Cebu flights. 30-40 mins lang ang flight pero naranasan kong mag roller coaster ride dahil sa clear turbulence. i cant imagine the turbulence you will encounter for Manila flight for 2 hrs.

They can check the system... :bash:

Ozamiz - Manila flight lang ba ang affected sa Nov. 30 na gagamit ng ATR ? Is this the first time in 5J aviation history for a Manila to Mindanao flight that will be using ATR ? :)

Normally, when I see these scenario, the person wearing that earpiece, that appears as if it's a noise protecting device but with a long cord connected down at the bottom of the aircraft itself, they are usually an aircraft maintenance person. My guess is, she is an aircraft maintenance employed by Cebu Pacific. She is wearing a green vest as well which usually indicates a higher ranking position. Baggage handlers usually wears orange vest.
