mas mahal ang KE og $100 sa online booking but I like the time flight of CX kay convenient sa ako. I'll call my agent tomorrow.
litigs December 10th, 2011, 02:10 PM bitaw nakabantay ko ana.
dapat few hours apart para naay option ang pax in case ma-cancel ang usa ka flight sa Pagadian or Ozamiz.
dool ra baya mag land trip to/from Pagadian :)
Strongly agree with you Blue specially if you have connecting flights. I was hoping to get a one day air travel via PAL from abroad and connecting domestic but the schedules in Ozamiz and Pagadian just won't allow it. To do that, you have to end up in Cagayan. Not bad actually if they can open the brand new airport next year.

*GoldFish* December 10th, 2011, 03:37 PM Why not PAL Gold? more expensive?
PAL was already out of my options for next year. They (PAL) still use the same old aircrafts with some incidents reported like the smoke issue with the air condition, exploded tires twice leads to emergency landing. Been with PAL several times for the past years and I including my family see that CX has far better when it comes to services. I never tried KE yet will try one of my future flights. Btw, CX and KE are competing with their rates like last april PAL was the most highest fare rates among three.

might as well catch the 777 or A330 flight to lax. that way you have shorter connection and try different KE planes. i usually take the A330 that goes to NRT then to LAX. but if you want to wait for the A380 flight, ICN is a great airport, they have free shower rooms and there is also a transit lounge for a minimal fee only.

Blueleo December 12th, 2011, 01:52 AM PAL, Chartis expand insurance coverage
By EMMIE V. ABADILLA
December 11, 2011, 11:27pm
Chartis, which offers P200 worth of policies to ensure passengers from travel inconveniences, from loss of documents and rescheduled flights to medical emergencies, has been operating for 90 now and covers over 160 countries.
Previously, only passengers who booked their PAL flights online via the airline’s web site www.phlippineairlines.com were offered the option to purchase travel insurance from Chartis.
However, beginning this fourth quarter, those who book flights through PAL’s reservations call center and ticket offices or at accredited travel agencies can avail of Chartis travel insurance.

I wish to have flown one, for now, just arming myself with an FAA basic pilot manual is enough. Did a year basic aerodynamics in one of those aeronautical schools in Cebu. Its fun being an aviation enthusiast. Spoilers are only effective at high speed as it increases drag in the wings, meaning pressure above it is great making the aircraft pushed down into the runway and increasing friction in the wheels. That and the reverse thrust later will help it stop and reduce the chances of hydroplaning. Great to see action shots like that!

left MNL for GES with only around 49 pax out of 156pax and 5J 992 left
GenSan for MNL with only 39 pax....
nangyari na ba sa Ozamiz airport ang ganitong pax load na less than

You are lucky to get a shot of this rare Shorts SD330, cargo(Sherpa). Presently used by the US army but soon to be replaced by the C27J Spartan. In the late 80s, PAL had the commercial version which is the SD360, served Pagadian, cabin not pressurized, my ears hurt bad when I had a bout of sinusitis during one of the flights. One crashed in Iligan near Balo-i, on approach to the airport - CFIT(Controlled flight into terrain). There were no commercial flights to that city since then. Great find Blue!

I just hope di na maing-ani ang passenger volume sa Ozamiz since Pagadian already had 2 airlines. Pero we already had several tourist spots in Misamis Occidental so not affected then hand-carry japun ang southern part of Lanao del Norte and Sur. :D

That's quite a risky maneuver for the pilot turning the A320 at the narrow runway. There are already incidents of landing the wheels in the shoulders even in runways wider than Ozamiz. It only takes one stuck aircraft to cause haywire not only to airport operations but the respective airlines affected, just like what happened in Zamboanga where the mayor has to intervene. I don't know why CAAP is allowing this knowing they don't even have emergency equipment like airbags to extricate the aircraft. Perhaps they are taking the chance that Pagadian airport is nearby just in case flights get diverted and passengers will still make it to Ozamiz.

Blueleo December 20th, 2011, 03:46 PM CEB brings back Dancing Crew on special flights
(The Philippine Star) Updated December 20, 2011 12:00 AM
CEB has a surprise in store for passengers on select domestic and international flights this December. One such surprise has never even been done on air before! This is our way of thanking guests for all their support this year, and sharing the airline’s fun culture to more people,” she added.
Passengers can check CEB’s official YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/user/cebupacificair) for updates.
Iyog said that the Filipino Christmas feel does not end at CEB’s organic ticketing offices and its major airport hubs this year, but extends all the way to its in-flight menu. CEB’s onboard treats this December include Bibingka, a traditional Filipino favorite, and White Christmas Mocha.

That wasn't the case Dash. There was a fault in the wiring for the entertainment consoles at the back of the seats. The subsequent fire that raged inside the voids of the fuselage affected wires for the glass cockpit causing loss of instrument referrences for the pilots. The smoke added to lessened visibility but they were still able to stir the plane and descend towards Halifax. They came up short. That incident prompted a lot changes in this consoles that made them safe to the highest standards now. Wireless has been around until this time perhaps that there was a cheaper way to interconnect it without compromising flight controls. Of course, there will a hot server on board that needs to be cooled at all times but the FAA will deal with that. I'm sure Blueleo will be happy with Wi-Fi on board and we get quick feed for the forum. LCCs operate on the notion of "pay as you go". You pay, they give you the password.

Yes Dash, they could have made it to the airport if it was daytime, but its hard when its night, plus of course the fire. Anyways don't worry. They won't just release wifi without stringent standards. Air canada had two successful test runs but transport authorities are not yet saying yes. After all, they were responsible for solving the Swiss Air crash and all the mandatory changes effected since then.

MANILA -- Who says plane travel can't be fun?
Flight attendants for a low-cost Philippine airline who gained fame by dancing through safety demonstrations are back swaying through the aisles.
They've swapped the Lady Gaga tunes that made them popular last year for Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You."
Manila-based Cebu Pacific airline says the choreographed dance helps passengers pay more attention to the safety demonstration.(AP)

Blueleo December 22nd, 2011, 05:01 PM Passenger confidence returns to PAL
INQUIRER.net
4:41 pm | Thursday, December 22nd, 2011
MANILA, Philippines–The Philippine Airlines said Thursday that passenger confidence has returned to the country’s flag carrier after its operations normalized in time for the Christmas peak travel season as shown by the volume of air travelers rushing to patronize PAL’s biggest and longest ticket sale promo – “the 12 Days of Christmas”.
In a statement, PAL said thousands of holiday travelers are availing of the giveway fares since the promo started on Dec. 14, more than a month after the airline company returned to normal operations since the labor tumult that disrupted the airline’s outsourcing program. The special fares promo is only until Dec. 26.
Under the “12 Days of Christmas” promo, PAL is offering very low-fare tickets for all its international and domestic destinations until Dec. 26 – as low as US$30 to Hong Kong, US$48 to Singapore, US498 to the US or P788 to any destination in Luzon. Travel period is from January 10 to March 15, 2012. A few seats still available as the ticket sale is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
As a special treat, PAL is also giving surprise “add ons” or “sweeteners” every day on top of promo fares. Daily surprise treats are announced in newspapers, the PAL website and Facebook page. The heavily discounted, round-trip tickets exclude fuel surcharges and government taxes.

Blueleo December 26th, 2011, 07:26 AM PAL seeks separate FAA assessment
Philippine Daily Inquirer
1:59 am | Monday, December 26th, 2011
Flag carrier Philippine Airlines believes it should be assessed separately by the US Federal Government to enable the airline to prove that it complies with international standards for safe air travel, even if the Philippine government does not.
PAL president Jaime J. Bautista, in a recent interview, expressed doubts that the government had done enough to convince the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to lift its “category 2” status on the Philippines.
The “category 2” status indicates failure to comply with strict international air safety standards. The low grade keeps all airlines in the Philippines from expanding operations in the United States, despite a standing “open skies” treaty between the two allies.
“But as far as PAL is concerned, we are in compliance and we are able to satisfy all requirements for airlines with operations in the US,” Bautista said.

Blueleo December 26th, 2011, 12:27 PM PAL halts direct flights to New Delhi
By: Paolo G. Montecillo
Philippine Daily Inquirer
3:25 pm | Monday, December 26th, 2011
"The loads are much better on flights via Bangkok,” Bautista said, noting that about 70 percent of seats were filled.
The scrapping of direct flights to India was also part of the PAL’s scaling back of operations last September ahead of the retrenchment of 2,600 of its worker. The
reduction of flights aimed to make the transition from in-house to outsourced services smoother.
Former PAL workers are still questioning the legality of their retrenchment, which was approved twice by the Office of the President.
New Delhi is the third of PAL’s new “missionary routes” the airline has launched, only to be met with tepid demand from the riding public.
In October of 2010, PAL had to stop flights to Brisbane less than a year of their introduction due to low demand. Last April, the airline’s unprofitable flights to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia—which at the time were the only direct flight to the Middle East by any local airline—were also suspended.

SEAIR President Avelino Zapanta says the spin-off company will be
named SEAIR International, which flies to leisure destinations such as Boracay, Basco (Batanes), and Vigan (Ilocos Sur).
The old SEAIR, meanwhile, mounts regional flights to Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau, among others.
The move comes as the airline company prepares for the entry of Tiger Air, Singapore's budget carrier.
Zapanta says his company is negotiating for Tiger Air to buy 32.5% of SEAIR for US$6 million.
Once the deal is sealed, SEAIR will be rebranded, he adds.

Blueleo December 27th, 2011, 07:08 AM CEB further strengthens Cebu hub
Adds more flights starting February
By EMMIE V. ABADILLA
December 27, 2011, 8:00am
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines’ largest national flag carrier, Cebu Pacific (CEB), is mounting additional flights on February 8, 2012 to and from Cebu after the arrival of its brand-new Airbus A320 aircraft from Toulouse, France.
In a couple of months, CEB will add flights from Cebu to the following destinations: Manila (11 weekly flights), Boracay (4 weekly flights), Dipolog (3 weekly flights), Legazpi (4 weekly flights), Pagadian (2 weekly flights), and Siargao (1 weekly flight).
It will also increase seat capacity from Cebu to Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo and General Santos on the same dates. These routes will now use Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft.
CEB will likewise introduce thrice weekly Cebu-Kalibo flights starting February 24, 2012, and adds four times weekly Iloilo-Cagayan de Oro-Iloilo flights starting February 8, 2012.
“With the addition of the Cebu-Kalibo route in February, CEB offers flights to 20 domestic and 4 international (Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, Pusan) destinations from Cebu, greatly contributing to the access of foreign tourists to the Central Visayas area,” she added.

jeffphilippines December 29th, 2011, 08:57 AM SMC confirms talks with PAL
By JAMES A. LOYOLADecember 29, 2011, 3:41am
MANILA, Philippines — Diversifying giant San Miguel Corporation is in talks with Lucio Tan for a possible investment in flag carrier Philippine Airlines as part of its entry into the tourism infrastructure business.
In a text message, SMC president Ramon S. Ang said “SMC in talks (with/for) PAL.” However, he did not comment on whether SMC is investing $1 billion in the airline.
SMC also disclosed to the Philippine Stock Exchange that it was “invited by Mr. Lucio Tan, the controlling stockholder of PAL Holdings Inc. to participate and assist in the re-fleeting and modernization of the aircrafts of Philippine Airlines.”
According to SMC chief finance office Ferdinand K. Constantino, this is “in preparation for the projected heavy influx of tourists in the coming years which will be beneficial to the tourism industry of the country.”
However, it a later disclosure to the PSE, PAL Holdings said its corporate secretary Ma. Cecilia Pesayco said "there is presently no discussion on possible investment by San Miguel Corp. in PAL Holdings Inc."
Last September, Ang denied that SMC was in talks to acquire PAL but admitted that he has been talking to Tan, whom he said is a very close friend, to brainstorm for ideas on how to help the airline.
If the investment pushes through, it will be a milestone in Philippine business since Tan’s Asia Brewery and Tanduay Distillers are rivals of SMC’s traditional beer and liquor businesses, San Miguel Brewery Inc. and Ginebra San Miguel.
Tan controls listed PAL Holdings, which directly owns 82 percent of Philippine Airlines which has been steadily losing market share to budget airlines led by Cebu Pacific.
PAL has recently become more attractive to investors after having successfully resorted to outsourcing key services to leave the company leaner and more cost efficient.
Among the investors reported to be interested in PAL is Ang’s merger and acquisition rival Manuel V. Pangilinan who head the First Pacific group of companies.
If PAL Holdings issues shares for the prospective SMC investment, it may also help the firm comply with the PSE’s minimum public float requirement. Tan has assured that they intend to comply with that requirement

Blueleo January 1st, 2012, 10:13 AM After dancing flight attendants, Cebu Pacific offers improv comedy
abs-cbnNEWS.com
Posted at 12/31/2011 2:34 PM | Updated as of 12/31/2011 2:36 PM
In a video uploaded on YouTube on Friday, Manila-based Silly People's Improv Theater (SPIT) performed before passengers of Cebu Pacific's Zamboanga-Manila flight.
A "three-headed oracle" called Madame Bienvenidos con Todo Jr. suddenly told fortunes during the flight, much to the delight of passengers and flight attendants.
"Limang numero ang kaya kong ibigay. Twenty-two, 51, 12, 1/2, .5," the three male performers spoke alternately when asked of a winning lotto combination.
"Magkakaroon ka ng syota kung magiging lalaki ka," they said when a passenger asked if he will have a girlfriend who is a flight attendant.
ABS-CBN's Gabe Mercado, who is the artistic director and founder of SPIT, served as host during the performance.
"Sila ang pinaka-accurate na manghuhula ng Pilipinas," he said, referring to the so-called three-headed oracle.
Improv comedy, a form of improvisational theater, uses audience suggestions to contribute to the content and direction of a performance. It does not involve any script or memorized dialogue.

jeffphilippines January 2nd, 2012, 03:15 AM PAL, AirphilExpress take delivery 6 new aircraft
Sunday, 01 January 2012 20:32
.PHILIPPINE Airlines (PAL) and AirphilExpress are slated to take delivery of new aircraft this year as part of their refleeting and expansion programs.
PAL is 95-percent owned by businessman Lucio Tan while AirphilExpress is 99-percent owned by the Lucio Tan Group and is also PAL’s budget carrier.
PAL president Jaime Bautista said the flag carrier is taking delivery of six planes next year— four A320s and two Boeing 777s.
“The four Airbus aircraft will arrive in March, April, November and December while the Boeing 777 are scheduled in June and November,” said Bautista.
PAL’s current fleet stands at 36. This is composed of five Boeing 747-400s, two B777s, 17 units of Airbus A320-319s, four A320-200s and eight A330-300s.
In a bid to stay competitive, PAL is going to implement a refleeting program in which the older aircraft will be replaced with newer technology and more fuel-efficient planes over the next few years as they reach the end of their economic lives.
“We need to refleet,” Tan earlier said. He added that among all local carriers, PAL, has the widest network, “a competitive advantage that we need to leverage and reinforce.
“This will provide us the avenue for bringing down unit costs and improve our ability to price more competitively. This will allow us to expand our presence in our current markets through increased frequencies and introduce new destinations especially in the booming Asian region,” added Tan.
Among the planes that need to be replaced are the Boeing 747s and Airbus A320s. The refleeting program will take a minimum of five years. The amount needed for the refleeting program, however, was not disclosed.
Meanwhile, AirphilExpress is also scheduled to take delivery of four new aircraft in the first quarter of the year.
PAL Senior Assistant Vice President Cesar Chiong said two Airbus A320s will arrive this month, one in February and another one in March. With new planes arriving, new routes to explore, and a new hub in Clark, AirphilExpress intends to be a strong second player in the domestic travel sector.
AirphilExpress seeks to increasingly corner a considerable share of the budget airline market by offering travelers with compelling value propositions. Among these is the free 15-kilo check-in luggage allowance plus seven-kilo hand-carry baggage that used to be standard among budget carriers.
The airline also offers 20-percent discount to students. Also, it recently launched a customer loyalty program where loyal AirphilExpress travelers can receive a free ticket after logging in 10 trips under the program.
This year, Chiong said AirphilExpress is earmarking about $250 million in capital expenditure which includes partial payment for the new aircraft that are set to arrive. --Lenie Lectura
Every tues and thurs kasi, may 3 flights na papuntang Manila ( APX, PAL, Cebupac ) :)

Blueleo January 3rd, 2012, 03:53 PM Seair sets 5-yr fleet expansion program
By Lenie Lectura, BusinessMirror
Posted at 01/03/2012 11:04 AM | Updated as of 01/03/2012 4:32 PM
“We are going to add more aircraft, maybe 10, in the next five years,” said Seair president Avelino Zapanta. The airline flies to Boracay, Batanes, Tablas (Romblon), Clark and Cebu. It also serves three international routes—Hong Kong, Singapore and Macau from the Clark hub.
Zapanta said the new fleet will be composed of Airbus A320s. The first two units are arriving in February and March and will serve the Cebu and Davao routes. Funding for the new fleet, he said, is still being planned by the airline.
Seair Inc. is being managed by its new owners. Tiger Air, the budget carrier of Singapore Airlines, has signed an agreement to buy a 32.5-percent stake in Seair Inc. for $6 million. The remaining 67.5 percent is owned by “three big investors” whom Zapanta declined to identify.
Zapanta begged off from giving additional details on the identities of the new owners but sources confirmed that the Lopez family is indeed one of the group of Filipino investors that bought into Seair’s jet operation. The other two groups are reportedly from the Delgado and Consunji families, which controls DMCI Holdings, a conglomerate with interests in real estate, construction and coal mining. The Lopezes hold interests in broadcast, telecommunications, power and infrastructure companies.

Blueleo January 4th, 2012, 08:00 AM More flights from Cebu set
By MALOU M. MOZO
January 3, 2012, 4:10pm
Beginning February 8, Cebu Pacific said the airline will have additional flights from Cebu to Manila (11 weekly flights), Boracay (four flights weekly), Dipolog (three flights weekly), Legazpi (four flights weekly), Pagadian (two flights weekly) , and Siargao (one weekly flight).
It will also increase seat capacity from Cebu to Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo and General Santos on the same dates. These routes will now use the Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft.
“With even more flights starting February 2012, Cebu Pacific will continue to offer customers with the most number of flight options and the lowest fares,” said Cebu Pacific Vice President for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog.

Pwedeng pwede. :okay: Actually, it is recommended since it's tedious to wear shoes in a post-911 airport. Hubo ka pa og sapatos unya suksukon dayon pagkahuman final inspection sa airport.

Good point, you mean it is now socially acceptable in the Philippines to wear sleepers or sandals in the plane. I do remember way back when there was a fad wearing habagat sandals with socks on it, so I may have worn sleepers before....interesting.

Many Filipinos prefer comfort over safety in their travel hehe
traveling by plane nowadays in the Ph is like taking a bus or jeepney to travel.
Gone are the days when people wear their best dress or outfit in traveling by plane.
bawal lang talaga ang naka hubad na pasahero hehe
i see many pax now wearing short shorts, sandals & sleeveless shirts.
this change in the way Filipinos travel by plane can be attributed mainly to
cebupac followed by APX and Zest air for offering cheap airfare :)
Blueleo January 6th, 2012, 06:30 AM Unsa na man ang sistema sa pag-claim sa luggage karon? Pareho ba gihapon sauna nga kanya-kanyang kuha pag-abot sa cart?
yup... same pa gihapon
murag wala man nila gi-priority ang luggage carrousel sa Ozamiz Airport.
Gi-announce nila sa una nga butangan kuno ug carrousel ug push carts
sa arrival area pero wala man hangtod karon.
i guess, daghan pa kaayo laing area nga mas priority sa airport karon :)

Sky Harbor January 6th, 2012, 09:51 AM What would this Bukidnon Airport be like litigs? Will this be like Siargao's Sayak Airport?
I presume this involves expansion of MBY (Malaybalay).
*GoldFish* January 6th, 2012, 11:16 AM Many Filipinos prefer comfort over safety in their travel hehe
traveling by plane nowadays in the Ph is like taking a bus or jeepney to travel.
Gone are the days when people wear their best dress or outfit in traveling by plane.
bawal lang talaga ang naka hubad na pasahero hehe
i see many pax now wearing short shorts, sandals & sleeveless shirts.
this change in the way Filipinos travel by plane can be attributed mainly to
cebupac followed by APX and Zest air for offering cheap airfare :)
perfect to wear during summer: tank top, shorts and tsinelas with sunglasses. hehehe
Franz-Bxu January 6th, 2012, 01:50 PM I presume this involves expansion of MBY (Malaybalay).
So there's an existing airport pala in Malaybalay City? Kaya pala ang liit ng budget kasi pang-upgrade lang. :)

My personal opinion is that PAL would obviously tend to have passengers wearing clothing that is less casual. First, it has business class. Second, are the passengers connecting to the West Coast. Third, people would perceive PAL as more high end, being a full service airline, so like they say " dress for the venue and occasion". Whereas 5j and APX are more festive, no frills and "grab as you go" airline. Like what Blue is saying, its just like taking a daily commute on the bus.
buknit January 6th, 2012, 02:21 PM yay! excited nku sku flight next friday. ehehehe :-D

Blueleo January 7th, 2012, 03:37 PM Damaged Manila airport equipment delays flights
By Tina G. Santos
Philippine Daily Inquirer
9:15 pm | Saturday, January 7th, 2012
According to the source, who asked not to be identified by name for lack of authority to speak on the matter, the airport’s terminal radar data display (TRDD) has been “unserviceable” since January 2.
He said the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has advised airline companies that it would take about until the end of the month to fix the equipment.
Because of the damaged equipment, air traffic controllers are forced to increase the time between plane landings as well as between takeoffs, a procedure that causes delays, especially during peak hours.
“Air traffic controllers are forced to space out the airplanes father apart, causing delays in both arrivals and departures,” the source told the Inquirer.
The TRDD is a piece of equipment used by air traffic controllers to identify aircraft within 60 miles of the NAIA.
It processes data from various radars scattered over the Philippines and presents an aircraft’s position, altitude, ground speed, among other information needed by the air traffic controllers to control either the arrival or departure of airplanes.
“The equipment is used by air traffic controllers to guide the pilots,” the source said.

Blueleo January 7th, 2012, 05:24 PM PAL adjusts flight schedule due to NAIA runway works
By Rudy Santos (The Philippine Star) Updated January 08, 2012 12:00 AM
With the closure of the NAIA runway 06-24 from 12:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. starting Jan. 10 up to August 2012, one domestic and 12 international PAL flights either departing from or arriving at the premier airport would be adjusted accordingly, PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said.
The affected flights include routes to Delhi via Bangkok; Singapore; Los Angeles-Guam; Incheon, South Korea; Melbourne, Australia; Vancouver, Canada; and Cebu.
All other PAL flights will follow the old published schedule.
According to Villaluna, certain flights departing from San Francisco and Los Angeles may experience some delays depending on wind conditions and the revised Manila airport schedule.
US passengers bound for Manila are still advised to check in at least two hours prior to their published departure time.
For the revised timings of departures and arrivals of early morning flights, passengers are advised to check the PAL website or call their reservations.
The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) will close the NAIA to allow the construction of a rapid exit taxiway (RET).

We must have the most skillful air traffic controllers having to deal with digital then reverting back to the basics. If not the broken airport radar, its the area control. What else is next.
