There is an urgent need to extend and expand Ozamiz airport runway to 2.1 or 2.5 kms maybe.
When the existing A319 fleet of both PAL and 5J go on retirement in a few years, Ozamiz airport will be downgraded again
and be limited to turboprops flights. This is bad for our local economy. :ohno:

not to worry Blue, they can still use A320's with weight restrictions and the captains just have to break sooner and deploy reverse thrust early just like in Tagbilaran!

Retirement of the A319s is unlikely, at least for PAL. They're only four years old.

The 5J airbus had to fly around batangas area this morning before it could land at NAIA beacuse PGMA was at the airport.
The pilot announced that we had to wait for about 15 mins and could only land after the departure of PGMA.
Its a protocol that pilots had to follow. no take off and landing of aircraft if a president's plane is about to take off or land at the airport. :dunno::nono:>(

5J staff told me this morning that they are making a request to move the new morning flight sched
of Ocz to cebu flights from 7am to 9am. This new sched will start on Jul 15.
the reason for this is that the new 7am cebu flight will coincides with 740am Manila flight.
The pre-deperture lounge will be cramped with both Cebu and Manila 5J pax.
IMO, the 5J staff will have difficulty in handling these two flights simultaneously. :omg:

blue, you just got caught in a "holding pattern"; priority is the presidents aircraft, next is the aircraft circling with the least fuel to spare. However if theres an aircraft declaring an emergency, that presidents plane has to hold.Well, another 5j fuel down the drain! Next time Blue, if your in window, fix your eyes on a landmark below, normally pilots will just circle around that; and by doing so, you can maintain "situational awareness" and you won't be dizzy.:)

CEB strengthens Cebu, Davao hubs with more frequencies and P699 seat sale
Also offers Macau, Pagadian, Surigao, Ozamiz as low as P999

Asia’s third-largest low-cost carrier, Cebu Pacific (CEB) further strengthens its Cebu and Davao hubs by adding more frequencies and encouraging more travel with a P699 ‘Go Lite’ seat sale from June 16-18, 2010, for travel this July 1 to August 31, 2010.

Those taking direct flights from Cebu to 18 domestic destinations can avail of the ‘Go Lite’ seat sale fare of P699. These destinations are Bacolod, Boracay, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Clark, Davao, Dipolog, Dumaguete, General Santos, Iloilo, Legazpi, Ozamiz, Pagadian, Puerto Princesa, Siargao, Surigao, Tacloban and Zamboanga.

Likewise, those traveling from Davao to Cebu, Iloilo, Zamboanga and Cagayan de Oro can avail of the same P699 ‘Go Lite’ fare.

CEB is also highlighting flights from Manila to Pagadian, Surigao and Ozamiz in a P999 ‘Go Lite’ seat sale, with the same sale and travel periods. Manila-Macau flights and Clark-Macau flights are also up for grabs for only P1,499 and P999, respectively.

Passengers with check-in luggage will just add P100 upon booking.

Meanwhile, additional frequencies for CEB’s Cebu and Davao hubs are slated for Cebu-Ozamis flights (from thrice weekly to daily starting July 15, 2010).

Starting November 24, 2010, Cebu-Bacolod and Cebu-Boracay flights will become twice daily. Cebu-General Santos and Cebu-Puerto Princesa flights will also become daily flights, an increase from its former 4 times and 3 times weekly frequency.

Moreover, Zamboanga flights from Cebu and Davao will be upgraded from a 72-seater ATR aircraft to a 156-seater Airbus A319 starting November 24, 2010.

“Being the largest airline in the Philippines, we are committed to offering more travel options and flights to our passengers,” said CEB VP for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog.

For booking and inquiries, passengers can call (02) 7020-888 or (032) 230-8888 or visit www.cebupacificair.com or http://funtours.cebupacificair.com.

Based on Civil Aeronautics Board data, CEB overtook Philippine Airline’s passenger numbers in the first quarter of 2010, making it the largest airline in the Philippines. CEB operates the youngest aircraft fleet in the country, and garnered a 91.8% on-time performance in the first quarter of 2010.

Jeff, where in the announcements did it mention Ozamis will be serve by A320 come 2011? And that won't be expansion because Airphil has been there already, replaced by PAL, and maybe back again to Airphil using A320 if the runway will be ready to receive it. For now, PALs A319 will remain; at least it has business class for the well heeled travelers and I would prefer it that way. That's a clear choice between LCC and full service airline!:)

I am just wondering why there are no more PAL signages at the airport now except for the PAL tarpaulin at the check in counter.
is PAL really pulling out once Airphil express starts flying to Ozamiz ? i hope not, although i welcome Airphil express to ozamiz,
i want PAL also to stay here. The more airlines serving Ozamiz airport, the merrier and better it will be for Ozamiz pax :applause::banana2::okay:

If Ozamiz lead maintain its lucrative market, PAL still remain at it's own platform.

Yup, only the first batch of airbus A-320 are coming by PAL.

Based on the latest timetable of 5J for Ozc-Cebu flights dated June 16, daily flight sched for Cebu will start on July 15 to October 26 and Nov. 24 until further notice with the addition of T-T-S-S sched from the present M-W-F.
My question is, what happens between Oct. 27-Nov. 23, does it mean its back to MWF flights again. :baeh3: :dunno:  :uh:

starting July 15, when 5J starts daily flights to Cebu again with 7am departure time from Ozamiz, i bet, all 5J staff will be very busy.
Manila flights will also depart at 740am. I pity 5J staff since they will be handling two simultaneous flights in the AM with limited personnel and a
small check in area. There are 2 check in counters inside the mini 5J terminal area and 1 express check in counter at the cargo area.

CEB promotes Amazing Thailand Grand Sale with P1,499 Bangkok seats
Also pushes for Leyte, Samar routes

The Philippines’ largest airline, Cebu Pacific (CEB) joins the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in promoting the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale, which started last June 15, and will end on August 15, 2010.

CEB announced a P1,499 ‘Go Lite’ seat sale for its Manila-Bangkok and Clark-Bangkok flights from June 19-21, 2010, for travel July 1-August 31, 2010.

Also included in the sale are P899 ‘Go Lite’ seats from Manila and Cebu to Tacloban, and from Manila to Catarman and Calbayog. Passengers with check-in luggage will just add P100 upon booking.

The Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2010 is Thailand’s annual shopping extravaganza, offering world-class shopping with special discounts up to 80%. There will be participating retail outlets along designated shopping streets in Bangkok, and special events in Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, and Koh Samui, among others.

According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor Suraphon Svetasreni, “TAT advises travelers that the situation here has normalized…. The things that make Thailand so appealing to visitors—our unique culture, natural attractions from mountains to beaches, incomparable value, and the welcoming hospitality of Thai people—have not changed. Thailand’s best awaits you.”

Bangkok’s shopping destinations include the Chatuchak Weekend Market, CentralWorld Shopping Complex, Siam Paragon, MBK Shopping Center, The Emporium, Siam Center, Amarin Plaza, Siam Discovery and Suan Lum Night Bazaar.

The Chatuchak Weekend Market alone has over 15,000 stalls and more than 200,000 visitors every Saturday and Sunday. It is considered one of the biggest and most famous markets in the world.

“We encourage passengers to book early and avail of this special seat sale, as it is up to 57% less than our lowest year-round fares for Bangkok,” said CEB VP for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog.

For booking and inquiries, visit www.cebupacificair.com or http://funtours.cebupacificair.com, or call reservation hotlines (02) 7020-888 or (032) 230-8888. Those without credit cards can still book online and pay via CEB partner banks.

(UPDATE) PAL employees to fight DoLE 'midnight' decision
Rocel Felix, abs-cbnNEWS.com
Posted at 06/20/2010 2:30 PM | Updated as of 06/20/2010 5:34 PM

MANILA, Philippines - The labor union of the country's flag carrier, Philippine Airlines (PAL), is seeking to reverse a Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) ruling that allowed management to outsource its critical operations, resulting in the mass layoff of some 3,000 employees.

The Philippine Airlines Employees' Association (PALEA) on Sunday, slammed DoLE's "midnight decision," in which Acting Labor Secretary Romeo Lagman decided in favor of PAL management, and signed an order that upheld the planned PAL spinoff as a valid exercise of management prerogative.

"If need be, we are ready to elevate the case up to the Supreme Court. We maintain that contracting out is illegal," Gerry Rivera, PALEA president and concurrent Partido ng Manggagawa (PM) vice-chairperson, said in a text message to abs-cbnNews.com

"Lagman's decision was released with suspicious haste and preempted the ongoing mediation proceedings at the DoLE. We wonder what reasons prompted him to make a decision just 15 days before a new administration assumes power and a new Labor Secretary is appointed," added Rivera.

Rivera said PALEA will file a motion for reconsideration on or before June 28. and exhaust all the means provided by law to protect the job security and labor rights of some 3,000 employees to be laid off as a result of the planned spinoff of airport services, inflight catering and call center operations.

The PAL union is also planning mass actions to protest the decision.

"Paleans will hold a protest rally at DoLE. We'll go to Times Street (the residence of President-elect Benigno Aquino III) the next day. Kung ang DoLE ay corrupt, kaming manggagawa ang maghihirap," Rivera told abs-cbnNews.com

"DoLE's decision is not yet final and executory," said Rivera.

abs-cbnNews.com tried several times, but was unable to reach PAL President Jaime Bautista for reactions.

Previously, Bautista said the airline is being stymied in its efforts to find new investors due to the labor dispute.

PAL wanted to start on June 1, the implementation of the next phase of its restructuring program, starting with the spinoff of its in-flight catering services; airport services, including ground handling, cargo terminal/cargo handling and ramp handling; and call center reservations.

Bautista said restructuring these operations are crucial to the company's survival amid increasing competition.

Rivera said that Lagman's June 15 order is faulty on both substantial and procedural grounds.

"It failed to consider the PAL-PALEA collective bargaining agreement's provision, prohibiting the outsourcing of jobs that are being performed by regular employees."

He said that the case has not been submitted for resolution, "and the order came only four working days after PALEA filed a motion for the production of certain documents, such as PAL's latest financial statement and its outsourcing contracts with service providers."

Rivera criticized the decision for opening the floodgates for mass contractualization.

"In truth PAL will not be outsourcing non-core functions, but merely engaging in illegal termination. It will layoff thousands of regular employees who will be absorbed by so-called service providers which are owned by Lucio Tan."

Rivera said the DoLE order, will make PAL's regular employees contractual workers and lose wages, benefits and job security even as they perform the job as before.

The militant PM said it will support PALEA's planned protest actions.

"The DoLE's decision, together with the measly P22 wage hike, exposes the real legacy of the Gloria Arroyo regime which is anti-labor to its last remaining days. The working class will remember the GMA government for legalizing mass contractualization and its cheap labor policy," said Renato Magtubo, PM chairperson

PAL to push through with restructuring
abs-cbnNEWS.com
Posted at 06/21/2010 5:56 PM | Updated as of 06/21/2010 5:57 PM

MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Airlines (PAL) said on Monday it will proceed with the airline's planned restructuring after the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) nixed employees' opposition, and said it is management's prerogative to outsource its key operations.

"We welcome the decision insofar as it recognizes PAL's financial troubles and the need to spin-off non-core services as part of its survival strategy," PAL said in a statement.

The affected units are in-flight catering services, airport services (including ground handling, cargo terminal/cargo handling, and ramp handling) and call center reservations.

The spin off will entail letting go some 3,500 out of its 7,500 workforce.

The planned retrenchment was originally set on May 31, but was deferred after DoLE assumed jurisdiction over a simmering dispute between PAL management and its labor unions.

PAL had announced that it will outsource its call center reservations to ePLDT Ventus, which would handle reservations, inquiries, bookings, disruption handling, back-office services and other call center services.

Its catering services will be handled by SkyKitchen Philippines, which is owned by businessman Manuel Osmeña. Also, PAL's cargo handling would be outsourced to Sky Logistics.

At the same time, PAL plans to downsize its medical, information technology and human resource units so that it can let go of 500 more employees.

The cost-cutting measures would save the company about P500 million to P1 billion a year.

"With the DoLE decision, PAL must now focus on the tough challenge of surviving the crisis and competing amidst a difficult operating environment. To do this, PAL must implement various revenue enhancement and cost control initiatives that includes outsourcing," it said.

PAL is setting aside up to P2.5 billion to compensate the displaced workers.

The Philippine Airlines Employees' Association (PALEA) slammed DoLE's "midnight decision."

"If need be, we are ready to elevate the case up to the Supreme Court. We maintain that contracting out is illegal," Gerry Rivera, PALEA president and concurrent Partido ng Manggagawa (PM) vice-chairperson, said in a text message to abs-cbnNews.com on Sunday.

Rivera said the DoLE decision was released with suspicious haste and preempted the ongoing mediation proceedings at the DoLE.

The labor union will file a motion for reconsideration on or before June 28, added Rivera.

In another development, PAL was chosen by the Official Airline Guide (OAG) as the best airline in the country for a second year in terms of flights and seat capacity operating out of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Data from the OAG, the aviation industry's main data keeper, showed that NAIA's four terminals handled 1,859 flights per week in 2009, an increase of 12% over the 1,654 flights per week handled in 2008.

These flights resulted in 309,616 seats per week flown by all airlines using the NAIA complex last year, 11% more than the 278,130 seats per week flown in 2008.

Of this traffic volume, PAL had a market-leading share of 35% of all flights per week, and 38% of all seats flown per week at the country's premier airport in 2009, stated OAG.

CEB offers P499 seat sale
(The Philippine Star) Updated June 22, 2010 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - Cebu Pacific (CEB) announced a P499 ‘Go Lite’ seat sale for select Luzon destinations and a P999 ‘Go Lite’ Taipei seat sale from June 22 to 24, 2010.

Passengers from Manila to Laoag, Cauayan and Tuguegarao and from Cebu to Clark can avail of the P499 ‘Go Lite’ seats, for travel from July 1 to Aug. 31, 2010. Those who wish to travel from Cebu to Ozamiz can avail of P999 ‘Go Lite’ seats for the same travel period.

Meanwhile, passengers traveling from Manila to Taipei and Ho Chi Minh from Aug. 1 to Sept. 30, 2010 can avail of P999 and P1,499 ‘Go Lite’ seats. Those with check-in luggage just need to add P100 upon booking.

“CEB flies to the most number of destinations to Luzon, and we continue stimulating the market with our trademark low fares. A P499 ‘Go Lite’ seat is comparable to bus fares, without the couple of hours spent more on travel,” said Candice Iyog, CEB vice president for marketing and distribution.

“Taipei and Ho Chi Minh also have a lot to offer the business and leisure traveler. We encourage guests to book their flights now,” Iyog said.

CEB flies to the most number of Luzon destinations, with flights to Laoag, Tuguegarao, Cauayan, Naga, Virac, Legazpi, San Jose, Coron and Puerto Princesa. CEB also flies from Cebu, Bangkok, Macau, Hong Kong and Singapore to Clark.

“We continue to explore possible new destinations and routes, to maintain our extensive network in the Philippines. In June alone, we opened two new routes in Mindanao, namely Manila-Pagadian and Manila-Surigao,” she said.

CEB overtook Philippine Airline’s passenger numbers in the first quarter of 2010, making it the largest airline in the Philippines. It operates the youngest aircraft fleet in the country and earned a 91.8 percent on-time performance in the same period.

PAL workers’ union to appeal order allowing retrenchments

THE PHILIPPINE Airlines Employees’ Association (PALEA) plans to appeal today the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DoLE) decision to let Lucio C. Tan-led Philippine Airlines (PAL) continue with retrenchments.

THE PHILIPPINE Airlines wants to lay off more than 2,600 workers to outsource three non-core operations — call center, catering, and ground services. -- BW FILE PHOTOPALEA President Gerardo F. Rivera said the union was disappointed with the decision and would exhaust all legal remedies.

Union members will hold a rally at the DoLE office in Manila and will troop to the house of President-elect Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III tomorrow, he said.

“We are hoping that they will let the next administration decide on the matter. We were disappointed that they released the decision.

However, we can still file a motion for reconsideration on or before June 28. We just hope that they will not make a decision the day after that because June 30 is a holiday,” Mr. Rivera said in a telephone interview yesterday.

The June 15 decision penned by Acting Labor Secretary Romeo Lagman favored PAL management’s plan to outsource three non-core operations. Outsourcing call center, catering, and ground services will displace more than 2,600 workers and is estimated to yield savings of P1 billion to P1.5 billion.

The distressed airline plans to pay around P2 billion in benefits to retrenched employees, who will get separation pay equivalent to one month’s salary for every year of service.

Labor Secretary Marianito D. Roque assumed jurisdiction over PAL in April to prevent a strike. Yesterday, he said the government had the prerogative on the union’s appeal.

“PALEA’s motion for reconsideration to be filed on or before June 28 is still subject to acceptance or rejection,” Mr. Roque told BusinessWorld in a telephone interview.

He refused to comment further on the issue.

PAL officials could not be reached for comment.

Mr. Rivera said 500 PALEA members will hold a rally today at DoLE, coinciding with the filing of the motion for reconsideration.

“The worst of crimes are indeed committed in the darkness of midnight. Lagman’s order is a midnight decision that was released with indecent haste given that the case has not been submitted for resolution and mediation proceedings are still ongoing. We insist that the incoming Labor Secretary be given the right to study and decide on the PAL-PALEA dispute according to procedure and on a just basis,” said Mr. Rivera. -- Aura Marie P. Dagcutan

OFFICIAL AIRLINE GUIDE REPORTS

PAL is top RP carrier from Manila
INQUIRER.net

First Posted 12:18:00 06/21/2010

MANILA, Philippines—Philippine Airlines has been the leading Philippine carrier, in terms of flights and seat capacity, operating out of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for the last two years, the aviation industry’s main data keeper Official Airline Guide (OAG) reports.

In a survey of the top airports in the Asia-Pacific region, OAG data show that NAIA’s four terminals handled 1,859 flights per week in 2009, an increase of 12 percent over the 1,654 flights per week handled in 2008.

These flights resulted in 309,616 seats per week flown by all airlines using the NAIA complex in 2009—11 percent more than the 278,130 seats per week flown in 2008.

Of this traffic volume, PAL had a market-leading share of 35 percent of all flights per week and 38 percent of all seats flown per week at the country’s premier airport in 2009, OAG reports.

Both figures represented increases over the 33 percent and 37 percent shares, respectively, that PAL posted in 2008, it added.

In contrast, PAL’s main local competitor was a far second in both categories. The budget airline managed only a 32-percent share in flights per week and 28 percent in seats per week in 2009, according to OAG.

For 2008, the corresponding figures for the secondary carrier were 28 percent and 25 percent, respectively.

The results of the OAG survey are contained in the current issue (second quarter, 2010) of Routes News, a leading industry journal published in the United Kingdom.

Established in 1853, OAG is best known for its extensive airline schedules database. This vast catalogue holds information from more than 900 airlines and 3,500 airports worldwide.

AirPhil Express becomes a new A320 operator

AirPhil Express, the low-fare affiliate of Philippine Airlines, has become a new operator of the A320, Airbus' benchmark single-aisle aircraft.

Featuring the airline's bright new blue and orange livery, AirPhil's first A320 recently began operations on the carrier's domestic route network. This aircraft features seating for 177 passengers in a single-class layout.

A total of six A320s will join the AirPhil Express fleet this year. The first two are being operated by the airline on lease from Philippine Airlines, while the other four will be new aircraft delivered from Airbus during the second half of the year.

"We want to position AirPhil Express as a low-cost carrier offering quality service," said David Lim, President of the airline. "The modernisation of our fleet will enable us to increase market share while the industry braces for the eventual rebound."

Airbus has a longstanding partnership with Philippine Airlines, which began operating the A300B4 in 1979.

The highly efficient Airbus A320 Family is recognised as the benchmark single-aisle aircraft product line. More than 6,500 Airbus A320 Family aircraft have been sold and nearly 4,200 delivered to more than 300 customers and operators worldwide, making it the world's best selling commercial jetliner ever.

Navigation system problem at NAIA 'solved,' operations back to normal
GMANews.TV - Wednesday, June 23

Nearly five days after it conked out, a key navigational system of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has been temporarily fixed and will be up and running Wednesday.

Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Melvin Matibag said they expect operations at the airport to be fully normal by 9 a.m.

“Kanina lahat na modules na pinahiram ng Subic International Airport ay naikabit at napagana, operational na yan (We installed the modules we borrowed from the Subic International Airport. The system is operational)," Matibag said in an interview on dwIZ radio.

He said the [restoration of the system] prompted the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines to shorten its Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) over the conked-out system from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m.

Since 4 a.m., he said the Very High Frequency Omni Radio Range (VOR) station that conked out last weekend had been on “test mode."

“Originally hanggang 6 p.m. today ang test mode. Pero mula 4 a.m., maraming eroplano ang nakalapag at nag-respond positive at walang reklamo sa function ng VOR kaya iniksian ng board to 9 a.m. (We originally scheduled the test mode from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. But having no problems with planes’ landing since 4 a.m., the test mode was shortened to 9 a.m.)," he said.

A NOTAM is filed with an aviation authority to alert aircraft pilots of any hazards en route or at a specific location.

The VOR system conked out last Saturday, prompting aviation authorities to delay several flights at the NAIA.

On the other hand, Matibag said the repair of the VOR remains a temporary fix, and that they still plan to acquire a replacement system.

He said such a system has a lifespan of 15 years, and the present system was due for replacement after having been in service for more than 14 years.

Matibag said they have called up the VOR system's supplier, who he said will send technicians with spare parts to the NAIA by Thrusday.

No black eye
Matibag insisted the incident over the VOR will not give the Philippine government a black eye, saying international authorities look not at the incident but at government’s response.

“Alam ng international body pwede ito mangyari. Ang tinitingnan ng international body kung ano ang reaksyon na ginawa ng awtoridad, ng CAAP (International bodies know this can happen. They look not so much at the incident itself as the response of authorities like the CAAP)," he said. — LBG, GMANews.TV

CEB slashes all domestic and Malaysia fares in seat sale as low as P999

Highlights Malaysia Mega Sale for August - September travel

Cebu Pacific (CEB), the Philippines’ largest airline, cuts fares to all its domestic destinations and Malaysia by as much as 49% in a seat sale from June 25-28, 2010 for travel this August 1 to September 30, 2010.

Passengers can avail of the P999 ‘Go Lite’ seat sale fare when they travel to any of CEB’s domestic destinations, such as Bacolod, Iloilo, Davao, Surigao and Dipolog from Manila and Cebu. Boracay (Caticlan), Bohol (Tagbilaran), Camarines Sur (Naga) and Palawan (Puerto Princesa) flights are also included in this seat sale.

The same P999 ‘Go Lite’ seat sale fare is available for those traveling from Manila to Kota Kinabalu, while the P1,999 ‘Go Lite’ seat sale fare is from Manila to Kuala Lumpur. CEB operates Airbus services to Kota Kinabalu twice weekly, and to Kuala Lumpur daily.

Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board Overseas Director Masrina Bakri said that the seat sale is in time for the Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival, happening from July 24-September 16, 2010. The mega sale offers great shopping bargains up to 70% off.

Those with check-in luggage will just add P100 upon booking.

“We hope guests can avail of CEB’s trademark low fares to Malaysia so they can fully enjoy the Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival this year, and the country’s other cultural offerings. It is good to note that we will be adding an additional flight to Kota Kinabalu starting December 15 because of the demand for these flights,” said CEB VP for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog.

“International and local passengers can also book early to take advantage of the P999 seat sale to any point in CEB’s very extensive network within the Philippines,” she added.

For booking and inquiries, visit www.cebupacificair.com or http://funtours.cebupacificair.com, or call reservation hotlines (02) 7020-888 or (032) 230-8888. Those without credit cards can still book online and pay via CEB partner banks.

Based on Civil Aeronautics Board data, CEB overtook Philippine Airline’s passenger numbers in the first quarter of 2010, making it the largest airline in the Philippines. CEB operates the youngest aircraft fleet in the country, and garnered a 91.8% on-time performance in the first quarter of 2010.

nice pics again Blue!, by the way I just noticed fri.june 25 ozamiz-mla fare pegged at P2,151 while pag-mla at P3,910?, how can that be?

is it possible that CebuPac may have jacked up slightly its fare for Pagadian knowing they are the only airline flying to Pagadian at the moment? well, This is good for ozamiz. Pax will most likely seek cheaper airfare to fly to Manila. The same thing happend at Ozamiz airport before when Airphil monopolized flights to Ozamiz, because of exorbitant fare of Airphil, Pax agonized the 3 hours travel to dipolog just to get the much cheaper fare and it was worth it according to some of my friends

Pax will most likely seek cheaper airfare to fly to Manila. The same thing happend at Ozamiz airport before when Airphil monopolized flights to Ozamiz, because of exorbitant fare of Airphil, Pax agonized the 3 hours travel to dipolog just to get the much cheaper fare and it was worth it according to some of my friends
absolutely right Blue, Pag-mla friday flight eventually sold out; and now the Monday flight is P3,240!, I bet Pag passengers will just run there to Ozamis, thats the good thing about the daily flight.

Nagtext din ang kapatid ko just now na adjusted ang kanyang Mnl-Ozc 5J flight on july 15. instead of 555am manila departure, it will be 645 am.
this new 645am departure from Manila is much better but i know some friends of mine who still prefer a very early morning departure from Manila.
Their reason---- they can still report back to work on the same day without being absent or late in reporting back to work after doing
lakwatsa in Manila over the weekend. Hmmmm ibang klase hehe :bash: :baaa:  :wallbash:

@ BLUE,

Huwag kang mag alala, babalik din ang 2P sa ozamiz. This routes will resume soon, from Cebu to ozamiz, Dipolog, Zamboanga, Butuan, but no definite schedule.

airphil express will launch new routes destination this year.

Manila direct flights to Butuan,Gensan, Zamboanga,Tacloban

Next year in lines are Dumaguete,Roxas,Loag, cotabato.

HUWAG MAINIP 2P HAVE A LOT OF SURPRISES SOON
I think 2p is just waiting for the right moment to re-deploy their planes when 5j starts to relax and get mounting complaints on routes they are monopolizing.Mind you, they are seeking to be called LCC with some quality.

PAL promo salutes Aquino inauguration

MANILA, June 27 (PNA)-- Philippine Airlines(PAL) salutes the inauguration of the nation’s new president next week with a major seat sale on all its domestic routes.

Dubbed “Fly the Flag with the Nation’s Leader,” the promotion slashes one-way, economy-class fares on flights between Manila and any destination in Luzon or Visayas to P888, and between Manila and any Mindanao point to P1,888. Tickets for Cebu-Davao were also slashed to P888.

PAL was the leading Philippine carrier in terms of flights and seat capacity operating out of NAIA for the past two years.

The promo fares already include value-added tax but do not cover airport (ASF) and ticketing service fees. They are available for sale online and at PAL ticket offices and travel agents until June 30, 2010.

Tickets bought on these fares are valid for travel between July 1 and Oct. 15,2010. Travel must be completed by Oct. 15, 2010.

PAL flies to three points in Luzon (Laoag, Legaspi, Puerto Princesa), eight in the Visayas (Bacolod, Cebu, Dumaguete, Iloilo, Kalibo, Roxas, Tacloban, Tagbilaran) and eight in Mindanao (Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Cotabato, Davao, Dipolog, General Santos, Ozamiz, Zamboanga).

On June 30, Sen. Benigno C. Aquino III will take his oath as the Philippines’ 15th President. Since its founding in March 1941, PAL has been the official carrier of Philippine presidents on state visits and important trips. (PNA)

Union appeals vs PAL outsourcing scheme

THE PHILIPPINE Airlines Employees’ Association (PALEA) yesterday appealed the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DoLE) decision allowing Lucio C. Tan-led Philippine Airlines (PAL) to proceed with an outsourcing scheme that will lay off ground staff.

THE PAL Employees’ Union claims there is no basis for retrenching workers. -- BW file photo“There are strong grounds to seek the reversal of the decision and June 28 is the 10th and last day to file a motion for reconsideration.

The decision of DoLE is not executory since we still have the right to file this motion,” PALEA President Gerardo F. Rivera told BusinessWorld in a telephone interview yesterday.

He added: “We did not file a motion last June 21 because we are afraid that there could be another “midnight decision.” We hope the current administration will let the new administration decide on this matter.”

Union members held a rally at the DoLE office in Manila yesterday with other labor groups. PALEA has asked President-elect Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III to intervene on the issue.

The DoLE’s June 15 decision penned by Acting Labor Secretary Romeo Lagman favored PAL management’s plan to outsource three non-core operations.

“Contrary to the decision, there is no spin-off of company departments in this case. No subsidiary corporation was formed by PAL and not one of its divisions was transformed into an independent company. What is involved here is outsourcing of functions wherein regular rank-and-file employees and union members will be terminated and the functions that they are performing will be farmed out to service providers,” Mr. Rivera said in a statement.

Labor Secretary Marianito D. Roque assumed jurisdiction over PAL in April to prevent a strike following the airline’s announcement of the outsourcing plan.

PAL had net loss of $40.2 million for nine months of its current fiscal year, narrower than the $330.2 million reported the previous year.

Mr. Rivera said: “There are no sufficient bases for retrenchment.

Retrenchment is a measure of last resort which should only be undertaken in case of serious and imminent losses. A close review of the financial statements and disclosures of PAL reveals that its business condition is improving and not deteriorating, thereby negating the necessity for retrenchment.”

PAL officials could not be reached for comment. -- Aura Marie P. Dagcutan

Pabor sa akin, everytime i booked, I'm always using my credit Cards and ATM cards, that's why, I'm so accessible during promos both airlines, especially domestic flights. yan ang biro-biroan sa akin, eh papaano dahil sa Cebu pac 1 piso promo at airphil promos ,which is too cheap fares, kailangan updated ka palagi sa mga promo on web, at ready to lay down your VISA/MASTER Card. he he he nakakapagod din . . . .pero enjoy naman!!!

40,000 passengers avail of PAL's seat sales
By EDU H. LOPEZ
June 29, 2010, 4:23pm

Close to 40,000 passengers availed of the Philippine Airlines’ (PAL) recent Independence Day seat sales, making them one of the flag carrier’s most successful promotions.

PAL ran a number of discounted-fare promotions in the days leading up to the 112th anniversary of Philippine independence last June 12.

The major promo, dubbed “Fly the Flag,” was a novel series of one-day sales covering 12 domestic and international destinations selected for their historical significance. It drew many thousands of passengers, mostly domestic travelers.

Of the 12 destinations included in the promo, the Manila-Bacolod vice versa route was by far the most popular, attracting the most bargain seekers. The Cebu route came next, followed by Tagbilaran.

On the international side, Singapore drew the most promo-fare customers followed by Ho Chi Minh City, Sydney and Taipei.

Another PAL promo, called “Proud and Free,” offered similarly deeply discounted fares to 23 international destinations. This one pulled thousands of passengers, mostly bound for Singapore and Hong Kong.

The success of both seat sales has encouraged PAL to develop and launch more promotions in the coming months as the flag carrier continues its year-long “Soaring to 70” marketing campaign.

Northern Mindanao’s economy remains vibrant in first quarter of 2010
Posted on June 28, 2010 by damarre
cagayandeorodev.wordpress.com

Reflective of the vibrancy of the regional economy Northern Mindanao, improvements in some important economic indicators were noted for the first quarter of 2010.

Exports made a strong rebound with a 115.66 percent growth which more than doubled from only US$92.36 Million to US$199.18 Million brought about by the increases in oleochemicals, canned pineapple products, and sintered ore in Misamis Oriental; crude coconut oil in Lanao del Norte; and sugar and rubber in Bukidnon. Misamis Oriental remained to be the region’s top dollar earner, contributing more than half of the region’s exports.

Internal revenue collection also set a growth of 37% this quarter, compared to the -0.18% slump last year, buoyed by the 61% growth in income tax collection. The Revenue District of Bukidnon posted the highest increase in collections by 51.23% followed by the Revenue District of Cagayan de Oro (40.48%) and Ozamiz 33.55%. Iligan and Gingoog Collection Districts posted 20.85% and 12.87% growth, respectively.

Increases were also noted in shipping and air transport statistics. The number of shipcalls, volume of cargoes and the number of passengers handled in the region’s base ports grew by 0.40%, 17.61%, and 19.29%, respectively. Incoming and outgoing flights, passengers and cargoes passing through Cagayan de Oro’s Lumbia airport posted increases by 38.4%, 19.7% and 104.5%. Air traffic at Ozamiz City's Labo Airport also grew by 48.5% (flights), 578.9% (passengers) and 162.8% (cargoes). Energy sales also went up by 19.1% with the biggest volume (55.1%) sold to Misamis Oriental, followed by Lanao del Norte (27.3%) and Bukidnon (10.1%).

On the other hand, the early onset of the dry season resulted into declines in production of a number of crops. The region experienced decreases in the volume of palay production by 20.9% and corn production by 8.1%. Overall production of vegetables, fruits and other crops declined by 10%.

Inflow of new investments monitored by the DTI also went down by 6.2%. This , however, was because of the huge investment in the other year in Bukidnon for the construction of Gaisano Mall. The bulk of this quarter’s investments were poured in Lanao del Norte, sharing 37% of the Php958.62 Million invested in the region. Bigger amounts are poured in infrastructure and services (Php382.88 Million) and servicing (Php332.47 Million) sectors.

Meanwhile, prices of basic commodities remained stable as the region’s inflation rate eases to 3.5% from a year ago level of 9.4%. Except for prices in fuel, light and water that posted a double-digit inflation of 11.3% , all the other commodity groups posted single-digit inflation rates. Clothing and miscellaneous registered the lowest inflation rate with 1.4 percent. Prices in fuel, light and water increased from 0.7% between January and February to 1.4% in February and March 2010 while the rest of the commodities continued to ease down. (NEDA-RDC/CAP-TF)

Cebu Pacific continues expansion in Asia, hopes to fly to Guam soon

By JAMES A. LOYOLA
June 30, 2010, 5:09pm

While waiting for a better time to launch its initial public offering, Cebu Air Inc., popularly known as Cebu Pacific, continues to expand its operations within Asia and even hopes to be able to fly to Guam.

“At this point, our business model is focused on routes that are four to five hours away and that is mostly in Asia,” said Cebu Air president Lance Gokongwei.

However, he said Cebu Pacific would want to fly to Guam if local civil aviation authorities can find a way to remove the Category 2 rating given by the US Federal Aviation Administration. The US FAA had earlier downgraded Philippine airline operations and put them under heightened scrutiny because of their inadequate safety standards. A Category 2 rating means Philippine carriers can continue flying to the US but only under heightened FAA surveillance.

US FAA rules also prevent airlines from the Philippines from expanding services to the United States under a Category 2 rating. Thus, Cebu Pacific cannot fly to Guam or any other part of the US unless the rating is upgraded.

Gokongwei said Cebu Air will continue to see major revenue growth due to the expansion of its domestic and international routes as well as an increase in passenger traffic.

He said the airline will continue tapping export credit facilities to fund its acquisition of more aircraft and that there is no need to rush its initial public offering this year.

“We dont have a specific date for that (IPO), it is on the table but there’s no specific date. That is really dependent on the financial markets,” Gokongwei said adding that, “certainly, we would like to pursue it.”

i once had a roller coaster ride with Cebu Pac ATR-72 upon our descent toward Mactan-Cebu airport
last year due to clear air turbulence. It scared the hell out of me. Mibulag ako espiritu atong time hehe.

On the turbulence; that was probably downdraft commonly encountered as the aircraft desended to lower altitude. Just imagine that wind hitting the sides of the mountains of Cebu, and that 10 seconds does give you a good shake.

That's the lady F/O (First Officer-on the right hand seat). I know there were few of them on training way back. PAL has a captain actually. I saw two of these ladies manning the cockpit of the SD-360 on a relief flight to Pagadian for a disabled F-50. I was speechless looking at them. pls.correct me if wrong, but is the approach towards RPVM when coming from the south a little bit farther from the mountains of Cebu and planes coming from south doesn't have to pass the area where the downdraft occurs? but there's also a phenomenon esp.those coastal areas where MCIA's approach is, that when the warmer air displaces the cooler ones it creates somewhat an unstable pressure which creates disturbing surge of wind, that's why we see some windy beaches.

i experienced during final towards rnwy 04 with CEB's ATR72 we had this turbulence probably it was around a thousand feet and during touchdown the ATR went floater as in 2x touch n' go before landing.

CEB highlights being the only LCC to all major North Asian countries
Offers seat sale as low as P999

One of Asia’s fastest growing airlines, Cebu Pacific (CEB) offers a seat sale as low as P999, to highlight its status as being the only low-cost carrier from the Philippines to North Asia. The seat sale is from July 3-6, 2010, for travel this September 1-November 30, 2010.

With the seat sale, passengers can avail of P2,499 ‘Go Lite’ seat sale fares from Manila and Cebu to Incheon (Seoul), Cebu to Pusan, and from Manila to Shanghai and Beijing, CEB’s newest destination.

For the ‘Go Lite’ seat sale fare of P1,499, passengers can travel from Manila, Clark and Cebu to Hong Kong, as well as from Manila to Guangzhou and Macau. P999 ‘Go Lite’ seats are up for grabs for Manila-Taipei flights.

Meanwhile, a Cebu hub seat sale as low as P1 is for travel from August 1 to October 31, 2010. Cebu-Dumaguete and Cebu-Davao flights are available for the ‘Go Lite’ seat sale fare of P1, while Cebu-Ozamiz, Cebu-Clark and Cebu-Legazpi are available for P599 ‘Go Lite’ seats. Those traveling from Cebu to Puerto Princesa and Surigao can avail of P899 ‘Go Lite’ seats.
Passengers with check-in luggage will just add P100 upon booking.

so whats the best site for an airport? i thought ideal site for an airport is near the sea ... :bash:

i think airports near the sea are still the ideal sites,Phenomenon doesn't happen everyday, every month every year and no exact season but it just happen.and probably as long as the airport is not in the middle of some mountains or high rise buildings i think downdrafts should not give much of a problem.but probably wiser people well versed with aviation can explain it more better about ideal sites for airports.:)

I can't imagine "body weighing" on a 72 seater twin engine turbopropop that takes off and lands on a runway that can handle a319s. Single engine aircraft and other light twins are more critical of this because of its take-off power limitations at maximum weight. Wayback, the lighter SD360s used by PAL, didn't even require weighing of passengers.

Passengers irked over Cebu Pacific flight delays

MANILA, Philippines—Passengers are up in arms against Cebu Pacific following delays of flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.
On Monday, several passengers threatened to file complaints with the Department of Transportation and Communications (DoTC), Department of Trade and Industry or the Civil Aeronautics Board to demand the suspension of Cebu Pacific.

Rick B. Reyes, a passenger with a ticket for an 11 a.m. flight to Iloilo, said none of the passengers in the airport were notified of any delays while checking in.

“Our flight had already been delayed and what is worse is that they would not even give us any explanation as to why,” Reyes said in an interview.“It was already past our boarding time and we were getting nothing from the staff,” he said. “At first, they told us that there was a weather disturbance in Iloilo, but I called my relatives in Iloilo and they said the weather was perfect,” he added.

“Then they started to blame the airport’s navigational equipment,” he said.

In a statement, Cebu Pacific said the Iloilo flight was delayed due to an “aircraft situation.”

Aside from the Iloilo flights, the budget carrier said its service to Zamboanga was also delayed, but officials declined to say why.

Reyes said flights to Bacolod and other destinations also were delayed without any explanation.

In its statement, Cebu Pacific said: “In the morning, our flight operations were normal. We experienced some air traffic towards noon, and this was when flights became affected.”

“Tomorrow, we are expecting flights to resume normal operations,” Cebu Pacific said.

But Reyes said “the real problem is the way they treat their customers. I want to sue them for damages.”

Pauline Banusing, an Iloilo-based writer and a passenger on the same flight as Reyes, likewise lamented Cebu Pacific’s treatment of customers.

“We understand that for whatever reason, flight delays happen. But the real problem is how they handled the passengers,” she said.

“The DoTC should suspend Cebu Pacific’s operations,” Reyes said.

CEB cuts Brunei, Osaka fares in half

Other domestic and international seats up for grabs as low as P599.
One of Asia’s fastest growing airlines, Cebu Pacific (CEB) promotes Brunei, Osaka and several international and domestic destinations in a seat sale from July 7-9, 2010, for travel from August 1 to October 31, 2010.CEB’s trademark low fares from Manila to Brunei become 48% less with a P1,499 ‘Go Lite’ seat sale, while Manila-Osaka fares are 50% less with a P2,999 ‘Go’ seat sale. Brunei is one of the airline’s newest international destinations aside from Beijing, and will be launched on August 21, 2010.

Its Osaka flights, on the other hand, achieved a 62% year-on-year growth, based on January-May passenger figures for 2009 and 2010. It maintains its thrice weekly schedule, utilizing CEB’s aircraft fleet, which is one of the youngest in Asia.

Meanwhile, P599 ‘Go Lite’ seats are up for grabs for flights from Manila to Bacolod, Coron (Busuanga), Iloilo, San Jose (Mindoro), Legazpi, Naga and Virac, and vice versa. The ‘Go Lite’ seat sale fare of P999 is also available for flights from Manila to Boracay (Caticlan), Kalibo or Puerto Princesa, and vice versa.

‘Go Lite’ low fares to the following international routes are also available: P999 for Manila-Kota Kinabalu flights, P1,999 for Cebu-Hong Kong and Cebu-Singapore flights, and P2,499 for Cebu-Busan and Cebu-Incheon flights.

Those with check-in luggage will just add P100 to ‘Go Lite’ fares upon booking.

“We are very happy with the success of our Manila-Osaka route, and are hoping to promote both Osaka and Brunei further to our business and leisure travelers,” said CEB VP for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog.

“CEB is also looking into developing its Cebu hub further for more international routes. In the meantime, we hope we can encourage even more passengers to take direct flights to and from Cebu with this seat sale,” she added.

For bookings and inquiries, go to www.cebupacificair.com or http://funtours.cebupacificair.com, call (02) 7020-888 or (032) 230-8888 or visit nearest travel agents. Those without credit cards can still book online and pay via CEB partner banks.

Guests who need to manage their bookings (rebook, cancel, reroute, among others) can do so through the ‘Manage My Bookings’ section in the CEB website.

Based on Civil Aeronautics Board data, CEB overtook Philippine Airline’s passenger numbers in the first quarter of 2010, making it the largest airline in the Philippines. CEB flies to the most ASEAN destinations and routes from the Philippines, and is the only low-cost carrier to fly to all the major North Asian countries of Japan, South Korea and China.

San Miguel Corp. keen on acquiring majority stake in PAL
By Ma Elisa P. Osorio (The Philippine Star) Updated July 09, 2010 12:00 AM

Ang
MANILA, Philippines - Diversifying conglome-rate San Miguel Corp. (SMC) has expressed inte-rest in acquiring a controlling stake in flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) from the Lucio Tan Group.

In an interview with reporters Wednesday evening, SMC president and chief operating officer Ramon S. Ang said, however, that they will only buy PAL if they can get at least 51 percent.

“We need to at least get 51 percent so that we are the majority. If not, then what is it for,” he said.

However, Ang said he expects Tan to sell PAL only to foreign companies. “It’s a pride thing. They will not sell to local companies. They will sell to a foreigner but not to locals.” Early this year, Tan surrendered control of his cigarette company Fortune Tobacco to Philip Morris.

When asked if they can make PAL more profitable, Ang said “the airline business is a very simple business,” adding they will definitely make more money for PAL.

In the same event, PAL president Jaime Bautista pointed out they have not yet discussed any plans of selling the flag carrier. “That matter has never been discussed in our meetings.”

Bautista noted that the airline is doing well and they are looking forward to a good year due to the opening of new flights.

But a source from PAL said a number of companies have been doing due diligence on the firm but the case between PAL and its workers have delayed the proceedings. The source noted that some companies are waiting for the final resolution of the labor problem. The source said although there are a number of firms that have expressed interest in buying PAL, they have been approaching the wrong people

CEB expects 3 brand new planes this year
(The Philippine Star) Updated July 10, 2010 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - Cebu Pacific (CEB) expects delivery of three more brand-new Airbus A320 aircraft during the last quarter of this year as part of its expansion plan that will enable it to increase frequencies to several domestic and international flights.

Because of this, CEB offers a 50 percent off system-wide seat sale to any of its 33 domestic and 16 international destinations from July 10-12, 2010, for travel from Sept. 1 to Oct. 31, 2010.

This includes flights to Brunei, Beijing, Osaka, Seoul (Incheon), Busan, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Taipei, Macau, Hong Kong, Singapore, Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh, Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.

Domestic flights on 50 percent off sale include flights from Manila to Boracay (Caticlan), Cauayan, Tuguegarao, Laoag, Coron (Busuanga), Dumaguete, Cebu, Surigao and Pagadian, as well as flights from Cebu to Dipolog, Bacolod, Iloilo and Butuan. CEB also has direct flights from Davao to Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro and Cebu.

This seat sale is meant to push the airline’s additional domestic and international flights. Starting Oct. 27, 2010, CEB will increase frequencies from Manila to Cagayan de Oro (six times daily), Zamboanga (thrice daily), Pagadian (five times weekly), Davao (six times daily), Tagbilaran (twice daily), Coron (12 times weekly) and Kalibo (16 times weekly).

On Nov. 24, 2010, the following flights will also have increased frequencies: Manila-Boracay (79 times weekly), Manila-Cebu (13 times daily), Cebu-Boracay (twice daily), Cebu-General Santos (daily), Cebu-Puerto Princesa (daily), and Cebu-Bacolod (twice daily). The Cebu-Zamboanga and Davao-Zamboanga routes will also be upgraded from an ATR72-500 to an Airbus A319, increasing capacity for its daily flights.

Meanwhile, Taipei flights will become daily starting Oct. 31, 2010, and Jakarta flights will be four times weekly starting Dec. 19, 2010. Seoul (Incheon) flights will be twice daily starting Jan. 24, 2011.

“We encourage every Juan to take advantage of our additional flights and 50 percent off system-wide seat sale to explore different local and international destinations,” said CEB VP for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog.

“The frequency increases are part of our expansion plan, as we expect delivery of three brand-new Airbus A320 during the last quarter of this year. We are very excited and look forward to offering more high quality travel products to our guests,” she added.

Philippine Airlines labor tiff: a litmus test for Aquino

MANILA, Philippines - Labor groups said the resolution of the ongoing labor dispute between the management and employees of the Philippine Airlines (PAL) will be a litmus test for the Aquino administration.

In particular, labor organizations are keenly watching how the new administration will address their long-standing demand for the government to eliminate the contractualization of labor.

Gerry Rivera, president of the PAL Employees Association or PALEA said they welcomed Aquino's order for the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) to review and evaluate its "midnight decision" on the airline labor problem.

PALEA is fighting the DoLE's decision issued shortly before the new government took over, to allow the airline management to outsoure three of its critical operations.

PALEA said this is tantamount to the mass layoff of some 3,000 PAL employees. The management of PAL said outsourcing its operations is necessary to stave off more losses for the airline.

On June 15, DoLE Acting Secretary Romeo Lagman said the outsourcing of PAL's operations are a "valid exercise of management prerogative."

Rivera said more than half of the PAL workforce will be retrenched and the local airline industry will be affected.

"The PAL dispute will not only be a litmus test of the Aquino government’s handling of labor management relations. It will also be an acid test of the task of cleansing the DoLE of corrupt officials and reforming the policy on labor contractualization," said Rivera.

Renato Magtubo, chairperson of Partido ng Manggagawa (PM), said "the epidemic of contractualization is a result of failure in both policy and enforcement."

"There are glaring loopholes in the law that have been abused by employers to wipe out regular jobs and replace them with contractual workers that have less in wages and benefits and enjoy no security of tenure."

Management is allowed by law to contract out jobs that are necessary and desirable to the business of the company.

But labor groups said this has been interpreted to mean that practically all jobs can be outsourced, not just janitorial or security services.

"Thus, you find factories and malls in which contractual workers outnumber regular workers several times over while all do the same job,” said Magtubo.

The PAL tiff between management and labor prompted labor groups to press Aquino to certify a set of pro-labor reform bills as urgent in his state of the nation address.

Various labor groups are mobilizing their ranks that will join rallies in the SONA on July 30. These include the Manggagawa sa Komunikasyon ng Pilipinas, PM, Makabayan, Alliance of Progressive Labor, United Filipino Service Workers, Alliance of Genuine Labor Organizations, United Cavite Workers Association, Samahan ng Manggagawa sa Paranaque, Samahan ng Manggagawa sa Antipolo and the former union of PNCC employees. - By Rocel Felix, abs-cbnNews.com

(The Philippine Star) Updated July 12, 2010 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - Traveling captures the soul and leaves you breathless for more. But as you wait in the carousel for your luggage, eager to start your adventure, you realize that the mess of a bag that has been slashed ripped and is virtually unrecognizable is yours. The good news: There is a way to protect your luggage. Protectabag is an international luggage wrapping service that is now available in the Philippines.

Protectabag exclusively brings to travelers this luggage protection system that is proven to be an effective and low cost method of ensuring that your belongings arrive untouched at your destination. “Security in travel is the farthest thing in mind when packing for a trip. But as the frequent flyer knows, this neglected priority should be top of the list,” according to Joy Manalo, general manager of Protectabag Philippines. Theft is a common travel concern that leaves the traveler feeling victimized and valuables gone missing.

In some extreme cases, drugs or other items deemed illegal by law are inserted in the luggage. “Protectabag luggage wrapping offers you added security simply by making your bag less accessible and less vulnerable to criminals,” Manalo said. The company is a franchise of Protectabag Australia and was brought to the Philippines in 2007.

The c
ost of wrapping is only P160. Protectabag wraps suitcases, backpacks, balikbayan boxes, carry bags, golf clubs, baby buggies, and even baby car seats.
