IMO they should have demolished the buildings and build a new one, because this one now looks like a commieblock. Well, maybe this will change, when the conversion will be finished :|
Anyway, thanks for pix :)

I remember reading something about silo structures beeing so solid, that it was difficult and expensive to demolish them. Thats why we have this silo trend, I suppose.

No, it's the 30 floor Domus Vista residence, and the Carlsberg building to the right of it. The 120m hospital-tower isn't visible here, but the direction is correct, so I think it's hidden behind one of the silos.
And you are quite right. Haven't been visiting the forum that much since before Christmas :)
My impression is that it has been kind of quiet here most of the time.
(meaning far too little highrise news in our region :( )

This is really very interesting project and I think it was not that simple to design such conversion. And the place will look much better after this project will be finished.

Does anybody know when the two projects will be finished?

Thanks for keepings us updated, tournesol! :okay: I guess anything is better than two ugly silos, but it would be nice with some cool buildings near the waterfront....

Its odd though. In denmark, whenever someone normaly wanna build more then 5 storys, people scream bloddy murder. But when it comes to those ugly siloes, you can build as tall as they´ll go...Wich is probebly be the real reason why they dont demolish the siloes, but turn them into expencive, and often not so pretty buildings.

What were these silos for? Missiles?
Monkey
April 18th, 2004, 09:49 AM
But NO, sOmeOne! :D Those silos probably served for storage of grain, or other foodstuffs. Water storage seems less likely. Remember, Denmark has been and is a country at peace! :angel1:

Thanx for the update: Not a long way to go for Wennberg now:)
One thing I noticed when I visited last time was how dense the area looked when walking back. Unfortunately the sun was quite low and in the worst possible angle so I didn't get any pics.:hammer: Maybe you can take a photo of that next time you're there with a camera:poke: ..........:D
Here's your photo with an arrow so you know what direction I'm talking about:

Nice update, the Wenngren-silo (is it OK to call it silo? maybe the Wenngren-building :D) looks really nice! It's amazing how you can transform ugly silos to beautiful apartments! :banana:

@Kaneda:
The buildings behind the silos are all residential projects. The area has currently more than 700 dwellings U/C and many more to come.
However in the panorama picture you can also see the Danmarks Radio construction-site rising behind one of the other construction sites. (Just right of Gemini Residence)
I'll post more pictures from the area later...
@WH:
Spring has surely arrived and we'd had nothing but blue skies and sunshine for weeks now (yesterday the only exeption)
@mlm:
I noticed the same thing. And I have a picture that almost rovers the angle you point out. I took a series of pictures from the area just before the forums closed for upgrade, so I never got arround to posting them...
I'll post it later...
@AtlanticaC5:
Feel free to call it silo or building, but it's Wennberg and not Wenngren :D
Wenngren it a more swedish sounding variation of it I guess ;)

This is the one I was thinking about. Maybe its a little closer than what you surgested, but it shows the density allright...

@kaneda
Here's some more shots of the various constructions going on in the area around the silos. Apart from the silos, there's one 10 floor building u/c, the rest is all the usual 6-8 floors.

SUPER Tournesol, that was exactly what I was talking about:D Thank you very much:okay:
It will be very exiting to see the area when completed, there seems to be so much going on there right now with all the new residential projects. Maybe it's just because I don't read local papers but this area seems forgotten a bit compared to Øresteden, even thoguh there is so much going on right now.

April 30th, 2004, 11:10 AM
You are right, mlm. Havnestaden is developing rapidly, but quitly compared to Ørestad. Probably because there's no taxpayers money involved. That usually attracts media attention...
Here's a photo from a not previously shown angle. Seen from the houseboat area just south of Fisketorvet.

They both look great IMHO. The only thing that bothers me is the Gemini buildings lower part. Are they going to do something about that or is it just going to stay so plain... grey??

I'm sure they'll paint it, but it will probably stay grey. I've seen a illustration once, where they had made a lot of round holes in it, but I'm not sure if that was the final design...

Status of the projects...
Wennberg is completed and residents has moved in...
Gemini Residence (Frøsiloen) is working on the interior, so the facades are
more or less as they will be, maybe except the lower part.
