Benin City, a city (2006 est. pop. 1,147,188) in Edo State, southern Nigeria, is a city approximately twenty-five miles North of the Benin River. Founded around the 10th century, Benin served as the capital of the Kingdom of Benin, the empire of the Oba of Benin, which flourished from the 14th through the 17th century. No trace remains of the structures admired by European travelers to "the Great Benin." After Benin was visited by the Portuguese in about 1485, historical Benin grew rich during the 16th and 17th centuries on the slave trade with Europe, carried in Dutch and Portuguese ships, as well as through the export of some tropical products

Its pretty hard to find pictures of benin city because Benin [country] has the same name. I cant tell if the picture search results are from Benin [country] or benin city. So I post pictures of parts of benin city that are familiar such as king square.

+1 I always imagined some type of large statue or structure being built there, similar to the roundabout you find in Europe. The roundabout is right in the middle of the city and building something grand there will boost the cities image and tourism.

Thanks Garth , something like those Roundabouts , with a twist of Benin on the Fountains like the Benin Bronze , just imagine the free publicity this will give to Benin !!

Nice im loving this. I will state emphatically that Oshiomole and Fashola are easily two of the best Governors we have now. These guys may be the true leaders we have yearned for all these years. I dont see why presidential ambition is farfetched for these two. Out of these other pretenders, we have two real contenders. Kudos.

Benin is on a level that i don't remember! Oshiomole is a true leader
I like the round about as is! the random assortment of facets makes it unique and innovative, creates an effect as if an island of art is floating on the river. I think the european 'statue in the middle' style can take a back seat to this approach in this case. They should add more facets.
