It's a nice solution for Cuiaba and gives a contrast to the otherwise more oval/roundish stadiums of the 2014 WC.

It is very interesting the solution to reduce the capacity after the World Cup.

28.000 is a good number for Cuiaba...

I hope local teams can do a good job and reach the National First Division until 2014. Good Luck!

COMPANIES planning to walk into work in Brazil using their international experience will have a rude shock because of the strength of domestic suppliers, a leading consultant warns.

Serious building projects in Rio de Janeiro and across Brazil are planned as the country prepares to host the 2014 Football World Cup and the 2016 Olympics. Photo: AP COMPANIES planning to walk into work in Brazil using their international experience will have a rude shock because of the strength of domestic suppliers, a leading consultant warns.

The fifth largest country in the world by population has come under the business spotlight because of the strength of its economy, and the significant sums of public money that will be spent in the run up to the 2014 Fifa World Cup and 2016 Olympics.

"It's very important to work with Brazilians to understand their point of view; their context and culture. We have to make a very serious effort to adapt our offer in each country."

Steer, which has operated in Latin America for 14 years and has 40 people in offices across the continent, provides consultancy services on planning for crowds and moving people. It has the Brazilian market in its sights because of the potential growth and with on eye on the likely decline in public spending on infrastructure in Europe.

"It means the international side of our business becomes more important," said Ms Hutt. "Brazil and Mexico are two major areas that we expect to develop very quickly."

She added: "The professional base in Brazil is very good. We can find the people to deliver the services; it's similar to Europe. A disadvantage is that local consultants are very good. It's more difficult than other countries."

Ms Hutt said the recession had slowed the progress of some spending programmes in Brazil but she expected those to restart soon. Steer is building contacts with a number of the World Cup host cities and has won work to provide crowd movement and transport planning for the Cuiabá Arena in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso.

Steer will have to show its mettle to win contracts. A recent report by UK Trade & Investment on infrastructure opportunities in Brazil, showed it was increasingly looking to Asia for its trading relationships, with China now its biggest partner.

CUIABÁ ARENA UNDER CONSTRUCTION
http://www.copanopantanal.com.br/foto/3181.jpg
The preparation of Cuiaba to the World Cup in 2014 has started today on Monday (26). It started this morning measurements of soil - topography - the demarcation of the fence and start dismantling the old Verdão. In practice, the capital of Mato Grosso started the works of the multipurpose arena for the World Cup.

The team hired by the consortium of topography Santa Barbara / Mendes Junior, strictly fulfill the promise of being in Verdão from 7 AM and work has already started. Simultaneously, two more teams working in the area. One is the quota of pre-demolition cold morning that started the dismantling of the chairs. Interestingly, the removal of the seats began the tribune of honor.

The first day of work was reserved for topographic measurements, demarcation of the fence and beginning of dismantling of the old Verdão. This should be routine in the coming days. According to the contract signed with the Government and reported to CBF, the consortium Santa Barbara / Junior Mendes has a term of 90 days to make the demolition of the old stadium Verdão.

According to construction manager, Antonio Carlos de Oliveira, the demolition will not fire. Thus, it is discarded the use of explosives. "It will be a manual process," said Antonio Carlos.

Meanwhile, a small team has been working in Verdão. Four officials in surveying team, seven in the execution of the fence and the removal of three seats. Command the work of the construction manager, Antonio Carlos de Oliveira, production manager, Carlos Ribas and administrative manager, Crispian Couto. By May the team should be strengthened with the hiring of 75 more workers. That number will rise gradually until it reaches 800, which is recommended by the consortium. The vast majority of the manpower will be recruited in the State. An office base will be mounted this week in the area of Verdão to deal with tasks and appointments.

Antonio Carlos, responsible for the work, the construction of the stadium that has a winning project is a great pride and responsibility: "We began to realize the project we received. Our concern now is to streamline it in the best possible way. In June 2013 Cuiabá is a candidate to host Confederations Cup games and our goal is to finish the work well before that. The construction period is 32 months. We studied and that commitment and we believe it is perfectly possible to achieve. We are proud to be part of an undertaking of this magnitude. It is a pride in proportion to our mission, after all, for being awarded as a project, it brought us a great responsibility. We have plenty of work ahead, but we're prepared. "

I don't think its going to be this big though. FIFA imposes restrictions on the maximum distance between pitch and spectators, as an already approved project I'm sure they took that into account.

Two things: Why is the capacity of the stadium being reduced? and Why couldn't the reduced capacity have been in the 30k range?

According to the project, the Arena will become flexible after the WC. They allowed the possibility of reducing its capacity (and maintenance costs) by reducing the stands behind the goals. This was made to adequate the Arena to the local needs.

As I pointed out, this is an option. So the project offers this flexibility that is to adapt the Arena according to its usage. For bigger events, they can make it fit 40k, but for local smaller ones, a 28k is fairly enough.

This is the old stadium being demolished, this week, for the construction of the new Arena. They intend to finish the preparation and demolition in 90 days. Just for the record, it is going to be a "cold" demolition, meaning that no explosives will be used. This is due to the fact that parts of the stadium will be reused elsewhere. For instance, the seats and the metalic roof covering the main stands will be installed in another stadiums, in bus stops, local sports centres and so on.

DEMOLIÇÃO DO VERDÃO ENTRA NO 4º DIA E JÁ VÊ TRANSFORMAÇÃO

http://www.copanopantanal.com.br/foto/3286.jpg

The old Verdao stadium had such a huge moat that the distance was much farther from the pitch than any other Brazilian Stadium. The problem won't exist at the new stadium since it is rectangular and therefore, the stands are very close to the pitch. Also, the two tower of the old stadium should be imploded instead of a manual demolition.

DEMOLITION OF VERDÃO 4th Day NOW SEES TRANSFORMATION

http://www.copanopantanal.com.br/foto/3286.jpg

Working under the state government's praises, CBF and FIFA, the contractor Santa Barbara / Junior Mendes came today, Thursday (06/05) in his fourth day of work in the construction of the new stadium Verdão. While three hydraulic machines with high power following the demolition of the old stadium, a team started yesterday, Wednesday, withdrawal from the spotlight of the light towers (photo). Contrary to what was released yesterday, demolition of the towers will not happen this week. "This task should only be performed next week," the chief work of the consortium, Antonio Carlos.

After three days of work, Verdão turned into a construction site and changed the scenario. Machines equipped with pick and shovel destroyed much of uncovered and covered bleachers, especially in the area marked for the new arena. As the project, the majority of the area of the old stadium, including the field, will not be part of the structure of the multipurpose arena, but its surroundings.

Tons of concrete with hardware already chopped and ready to turn landfill. Even the part of the old stadium will not be integrarda the new work will be placed below, as part of the structure of the surroundings as landfill. The demolition work is in charge of the company Destroy (outsourced by the Santa Barbara / Mendes Jr), equipped with special machinery - including the unprecedented hydraulic shears - which has been working with energy.

Although it has 90 days to completely demolish the Verdão, the consortium Santa Barbara / Mendes Junior intends to complete this task before the deadline to meet the request of the CBF and FIFA who want to rush the construction of stadiums for the 2014 World Cup. The deadline for the new stadium is December 2012, and that happening, Cuiabá will be in the running to be one of the venues of the games in the Confederations Cup in 2013.

How much does the stadium cost? Very nice design btw :)

The cost of the stadium is around 342 million Reais (186 mi US dollars or 126 mi GB pounds) because that's the price to be payed to the contractors. This amount does not include the price of the seats and the two big electronic screens that will be placed in opposite corners after the stadium is finished.

While it is being dismantled, i have a few thoughts about the Governador Jose Fragelli Stadium. In the run-up to its demolition, its low-quality condition has become apparent. It has no individual seating, it has fallen into disrepair, it is not up to 21st century stadium standards, and it had the largest moat surrounding the playing area (at 17 metres) - which is very excessive because most stadium moats (the deep depressions between the stands and the playing area at stadiums) are at an average of 2 to 3 metres, and I wish someone could have at least mowed the tall grass in the playing area before any of the works started. I also have a few thoughts about the new stadium: It is expected to be high-quality rectangular football-only stadium and has a dramatically smaller footprint. The exterior facade needs to be changed to a more simplified design, though.

Currently breaking down the concrete of the old Verdao Stadium. The dirt needs to be perfectly flattened out in order for ground to be broken for the new stadium.

The old stadium hardly had any amenities other than a small pressbox and a roof covering its adjacent stand.

One more question: Does the new Verdao Stadium have an official name or will it share the Joseph Fragelli name the original stadium had?

Jim, thats nobody know yet, Jose Fragelli´s family wouldnt see the stadium like that they appeal to the justice to try stop the demolition, but they had agreed to continue the works if they keep the same name in the New Arena, but people in general call the new Arena as: New Verdão, Cuiabá Arena(city name) or Pantanal Arena (area close to Cuiabá "wetland")
Btw Jose Fragelli died in the first week when the Stadium was being demolished... He was 94 so He died naturally of course not because the estadium was being overthrown.

That´s the way Cuiabá wants to be! The city is also known as Green City and Verdão in Brazilian portuguese means Big Green, Cuiabá is the Gateway to PANTANAL people say Pantanal Arena in Cuiabá and Amazon Arena in manaus both "green cities"

The new design of ARENA PANTANAL now definitive, plans to build a stadium simple and functional. With a design that was considered one of the best by FIFA, the work that is being built next to the gym Aecim Tocantins will have one large complex to visitors throughout the week. Part of the bleachers can be disassembled for the arena to gain more space duty.

The new arena, with a project created by the architectural firm GCP Architects of São Paulo and implementation of the consortium Santa Barbara / Mendes Júnior (Minas Gerais and São Paulo), will hold 43 000 people seated and stay for the games of the World Cup 2014. The bill providing for a stadium open and well ventilated.

The stadium will be multiple use, so that after the event, may be used as a convention center, stage for concerts and fairs, among others. The architecture has changed, it became more modern, European style. The divisions will be modular and the bleachers will be removed when necessary, they will be pre-shaped blocks.

The complex is being built on the same site where the complex was Verdão, and will feature restaurants, hotels, parks, lakes where children can ride a paddleboat, woods, trails for hiking.

FLEXIBLE ARENA

http://www.copanopantanal.com.br/Fotos/novoverdao/flex.jpg
To reduce maintenance costs in the post-World Cup, the arena was designed in four separate modules. The cover and the upper bleachers of the sectors North and South will have a collapsible metal frame. Thus, approximately 30% of the 43,000-seat arena could be removed after the tournament.

Environmental, social and economic development. This innovative format will meet the requirements of FIFA and allow the use by the community in the post-World Cup, together with a large leisure park and entertainment. According to the architect Sergio Coelho, author of the project, the new Arena was planned according to the most modern architectural and urban concepts that ensure its multiple use, ensuring the necessary economic and environmental sustainability.

Designed by architects offices GCP (SP) and Stadia Group, the design of the new Arena of Cuiaba to the 2014 World Cup combines sustainability, functionality and cost. A flexible structure will allow the dismantling of part of the bleachers and roof after the tournament, reducing maintenance costs.

"The design intent of the new Arena is not just leaving a sporting legacy, but to create a focus of attraction in a region that can evolve and allow urbanistically leisure and entertainment community.

In the park there will be restaurants, beer, Lake, sports Arcade, trails for skating and playgrounds. The intention is that the new park work day and night, with 24 hours security for users. They expect to be ready for Confederations Cup in 2013 so The ARENA PANTANAL has to be ready untill December 2012.
If the works continues like this the Arena will be ready even before Dec/2012, that´s what the engineers are saying.

LOC recognizes Cuiabá is the most advanced in the preparations for the World Cup
http://www.copanopantanal.com.br/foto/5138.jpg
The Local Organising Committee of the World Cup 2014 (COL) acknowledged on Thursday (07/10) during a meeting with directors of State Agency Implementation of Projects World Cup Pantanal - Fifa 2014 (Agecopa) in Rio de Janeiro, Cuiabá is the host city most advanced in the preparations for the World Cup in Brazil. The endorsement of the local organizing committee and FIFA consider information provided by all the seats on the progress of works and other legal measures.

The works of the Pantanal Arena this month entered its second phase with the start of installation of the foundations. Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Economico e Social (BNDES), via ProCopa Arenas, approved on September 22 the funding of R$ 393 million, one of the first to receive the endorsement of the bank throughout the country

Beyond this contribution, which ensures compliance with the physical and financial schedule of the Arena, the State Government signed on September 27 financing contract with Caixa Economica Federal. Worth R$ 454 million, the three agreements will enable the realization of the great works of urban mobility in Cuiaba and Varzea Grande.

Among them, the implementation of the corridor for transit (BRT) connecting the Marechal Rondon Airport in Varzea Grande, Avenida Rubens de Mendonça Historian (CPA, Cuiabá). The other extension of BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) to link the center of the Capital Coxipó, besides the doubling of highway and bridge Mario Andreazza.

The Agecopa have also forwarded all projects relating to major interventions in the avenues Miguel Sutil, Fernando Correa and FEB (bridges, trenches, duplications, etc.) and has bid on the early work release. The first, already underway, is paving the Mario Palma Avenue, in the region Despraiado.

Director of Infrastructure Agecopa, Carlos Brito, said that the meeting was extremely positive for Mato Grosso, which was endorsed by the local organizing committee to continue work which has received praise not only of FIFA, but the major media outlets in support of national preparations in all venues in Brazil.

In addition to personally meet the leaders of the LOC / FIFA to oversee the work in Brazil until 2014, the directors of Agecopa brought reports on the progress of work relating to public safety, hospitality, urban mobility, marketing and environmental sustainability.

In these discussions, according to Brito, the concern was evident in FIFA streamline not only the basic requirements for the competition - Arena, the airport, Fan Park and Training Center - but especially the legacies that will remain for community enjoyment of Mato Grosso. "This position of FIFA and the LOC confirm that Agecopa is on track, also to prioritize the work of urban mobility, training of manpower in all segments, the inclusion of reeducation in the works and other measures that will change to better people's lives, "said Brito.

The Planning Director Yenes Magalhaães also present at the meeting recalled that the choice of singular actions of great social interest does not prevent the Agecopa to fulfill all its commitments to FIFA. "We are working on several fronts, meeting the requirements of the entity, but without forgetting the main goal being to leave a social legacy of inestimable value to the population," Yenes".

The director of the Inter-Institutional Relations Agecopa, Agripino Bonilha added that the local organizing committee encourages actions aimed at increasing dialogue with society, the biggest beneficiary of all works and improvements that will bring the World to states and municipalities. "Through the actions related to volunteering, training of manpower and opening new business opportunities, the Agecopa also is advancing in this field," concluded Bonilha.

The meeting was led by the COL Jay Neuhaus, head of FIFA's events, together with Fabio Starling, general manager of the LOC relationship with the host cities, Carlos De La Corte, Manager of Arenas, Hilario Medeiros, manager of General Security; Roberto Siviero, Venues and Facilities Manager, Fernando Roriz, Relationship Manager, Luiz Otavio Marine, Marketing Manager and Fábio Carvalho, coordinator of the project Monitoring of works.

does anyone know what stage of the construction we are at, and when the actual stadium structure will appear?

Arthurlp10

^^
We are still at the stage of foundations, the local soil is much complicated to handle, work has taken a bit longer time than normal at this stage, but we will soon see the structure rising.
I think in two or three months at the most we see the first stands.

25% of this Arena is already done, if not the first will be in TOP 3 to be ready for World Cup.
This Arena will be ready for Confederations Cup, but unfortunatelly FIFA wont chosse Cuiabá to in Confederations Cup unless the others Arena have some problems and wont be ready on time.
