The original expected finish was initially going to be in September of 2009. But as commissioners from the Construction Enquiry visited the site and put it under the microscope, the developers in fact brought the project completion date ahead of schedule to August 09.

The chairman of the Commision of Enquiry, professor John Uff actually said he was quite pleased with the state of developments, and the hasty and efficient construction, however as for other projects he has a few choice questions for them :ohno: oops'

I will preface my comments with, “In my opinion”. The National Academy for the Performing Arts is an absolutely, incredibly, stunningly, eye catching beautiful building. (Do you know what I mean?) The photographs, architectural drawings, artists impressions are absolutely flawless. The contours are smooth and even dramatic. However, the location does not create the dramatic effect the building is meant to convey.
The National Academy for the Performing Arts should have been built on a vast expanse of land, on A gentle incline or in a shallow valley where the building appears ahead of you with majestic splendor. The current location makes the building look squeezed into the site; it is too close to the street. I hope steel and concrete barricades are built around the building to prevent “drive-in” guests.

I suspect the architect and engineers must be pleased to see his/ her design built, however, they may have preferred to see their building at a more dramatic location.

I end with “In my opinion”.

However I really hope the gov can properly maintain such a structure becuz trinidad has a bad rep for things like tht (ex the mag seven)... Another very important thing that would definetly help this structure is if they BURIED THHOSE UGLY CABLES and place elegant sdtreet lighting, the same can be said for the lighting around the RED HOUSE, FOR GODS SAKE IT IS THE HOUSE OF GOVERNEMENT. but tht is my opinion.
however i hope it is maintained (emphasis) after the CHOGM

I wish I could help you out Cantrini. But alas, I currently live in the Great White North myself. I wanted to snap some pictures the last time I was down there in December, but my camera would not coorporate.:ohno::ohno:
I'll see what I can arrange however, maybe I can bug my family to get some pictures taken.

Sure thing, I'm situated somewhere just east of Tdot (Toronto). Everyday on my way to work, I make comparisons in my mind between the condos and offices I pass in North York and downtown Port of Spain (LOL).

Good to know that a fellow Trini is in the area Cantrini. Even though we love the development that is happening around us and back home, Durham is laid back enough to give us a mix of the city and country life that we can appreciate. Peace.

National Academy for the Performing Arts, North

The majestic National Academy for the Performing Arts (North Campus), positioned in the heart of the nation's capital, Port of Spain, will be a permanent home for the development of talent in the performing arts, with particular focus on our national instrument, the steel pan.

The architectural design is reminiscent of the national flower of Trinidad and Tobago, the Chaconia. At its highest point, the grand, modern building will rise up to 100 feet enhancing the state-of-the-art acoustics and offering an inspirational setting for the enjoyment and training of the performance arts.

The Port of Spain National Academy for the Performing Arts will play a pivotal role in the Government of Trinidad and Tobago's multifaceted national plan for development. A performance and teaching academy, the Port of Spain National Academy for the Performing Arts will feature a vast array of open vistas for the enjoyment of the performance arts as well as contemporary classrooms, teaching halls and other practice spaces for the cultivation of the performance artistes of tomorrow.

The 429,093 sq. ft. facility will feature:

A 1500 seat acoustically designed performance hall;

Two practice halls;

Teaching rooms;

State of the art lighting and sound features;

Stages designed to showcase pannists and other performance artistes;

A hotel (for visiting performers);

Parking; and

Landscaped surroundings including seating areas, water features and greenery.

The Port of Spain National Academy for the Performing Arts is one of two such facilities to be built as part of a Government to Government, 2% concessional loan from the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
