The red-eared guenon is endangered, and found only in southeast Nigeria, southwest Cameroon known as the Cameroon faunal region (Cercopithecus erythrotis camerounensis)and the island of Bioko (Cercopithecus erythrotis erythrotis). Red-eared guenons share their habitat in this small geographic area with many other endangered mammals, including the rare subspecies of lowland gorilla, the Cross River gorilla and the drill monkey (Mandrillus leucophaeus).

Nigeria has only 4 endemic species, 2 of which occur only on the Jos Plateau, Rock Firefinch Lagonosticta sanguinodorsalis and Plateau Indigobird Vidua maryae. Of the other 2, Ibadan Malimbe Malimbus ibadanensis is restricted to a small area in the degraded forest belt of the south-west and the Anambra Waxbill Estrilda poliopareia is only found in the southern part of the Niger Delta. The only area protecting any of these is the small Amurum Reserve which surrounds the Ornithological Institute on the Jos Plateau. Link (http://www.africanbirdclub.org/countries/Nigeria/ibas.html)

^^Unfortunately they are in danger of being extinct, they are about under a thousand of them left and most of them now live in south of Niger Republic & handful of them can be found in Yankari Game Reserves.

http://www.cryptomundo.com/wp-content/uploads/girafescarossio.jpg

Fact: There are nine recognized subspecies of giraffe. They are: the Nigerian giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis peralta), the Nubian giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis camelopardalis), Baringo (Rothschild's) giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi), Masai giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis tippelskirchi), Reticulated giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis reticulata), Thornicroft's giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis thornicrofti), Kordofan giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis antiquorum), Angolan giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis angolensis), and the Southern giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis giraffa). They live in scattered geographic regions in Africa, and have differing color patterns Link (http://fohn.net/giraffe-pictures-facts/)

Nigeria has a bird list of just over 900 species and this is increasing every year particularly since the establishment of the A. P. Leventis Ornithological Research Institute in Jos, Plateau State.

Giant jewel (Chlorocypha centripunctata). Known from very few areas in south-east Nigeria and south-west Cameroon, this species is likely threatened by forest destruction

^^Yes, there are Elephants in Nigeria, and can be found in Yankari Game Reserves & Owo Forest. Unfortunately they're under threat from poachers. this is from NCF "Yankari has one of the most important populations of the elephant species in West Africa. The NCF added, ´If the current poaching trend continues, Yankari may lose more than half of its population of elephants over the next six months.
