Khaw August 27th, 2011, 10:07 AM Bravo! So where exactly is the central part of the city when there are multiple "sentrals" -- way to go PM Najib for coming up with such creative name! Sentral is no longer special... Times Square is no longer unique... the word "icon" is no longer referring to something iconic... These names/words have been over-abused by Malaysians!!! :bash: :ohno:

CoolFellas August 28th, 2011, 12:21 AM Malaysian Dictionary should come out with new vocabulary la...
Sentral means (Express Bus/Train) Station...
According to Kamus Dewan Edisi 2 dan 4 published by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, the word 'Sentral' means 'di tengah-tengah atau pusat'. So 'Pudu Sentral' means 'di tengah-tengah kawasan Pudu. Yep I agree it should adds a new vocabulary for 'Sentral' with another meaning.
So in Malaysia we can say ;
1- Perhentian Bas for Bus Stop
2- Stesen Bas for Bus Station
3- Sentral for Integrated Bus/Coach or Train/LRT with feeder buses. e.g KL Sentral, JB Sentral, Melaka Sentral, Pudu Sentral :naughty:
4- Terminal Pengangkutan Bersepadu (TPB) for Integrated Transport Terminal which integrated all forms of public transports (bus, train, LRT etc). e.g TPB Bandar Tasik Selatan

WITH Hari Raya just a few days away, the bus terminals are not crowded as it should be as people are opting for other modes of transport and buying their tickets much earlier.
A check at the Putra Bus Terminal, Puduraya Bus Terminal and Terminal Bersepadu Selatan revealed that the scene appeared to be calm and organised as people were not seen to be rushing to get their tickets.
At the Putra Bus Terminal in Jalan Putra, people were seen waiting for buses heading for Terengganu, Kelantan and other areas in the east coast.

Yep, I agree with Nazrey. :nocrook: Hopefully the name 'sentral' won't distract 'rakyat' to look at the bigger picture of the facilities that have been provided and to suggest to improve it further.Hopefully the renovation of Pudu Sentral and new Bandar Tasik Selatan Integrated Transport Terminal (BTSIT) or Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) have eased crowd chaos mostly during raya, cuti sekolah or any festive seasons.
Defo our new facilities at Pudu Sentral and BTSIT are better compared to the age Victoria Coach Station, the main inter-cities bus station in London or the mammoth Büyük Otogar, Istanbul Main Bus Terminal. The both bus terminals are really 'Sentral' and integrated as the only main bus terminal for the both cities for seamless connection, not just inter-cities within the country but also other cities in Europe. Both main terminals cater more numbers of buses, destinations and passengers than us, and also easy access with other public transports.
How I wish we have a truly Sentral that integrated all connection for the cities in Malaysia and also neighbouring countries (Singapore) under one roof, rather than few Sentrals than divided to different regions.

Pudu Sentral aka PuduRaya supposed to cater inner city buses only and not inter-cities. How I wish Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) is build in larger scale to centralize all bus connections for all major cities in Malaysia (and also Singapore) except Sabah and Sarawak, of course. It can be like the biggest bus station in Asia and can be named as 1Malaysia Bus Terminal

people in malaysia don't even care about this bickering.
trust me..most of malaysians barely concern about the name too seriously like what we do in this forum.
on the other hand, branding or rebranding something with the number "1" is totally OUT,lame and boring.thanks great lord he didn't rename pudu raya with 1sentral or anything with 1 in front of it.if he does, i'm gonna screammm...arrggghhhhh~
allurban August 28th, 2011, 06:38 PM Malaysian Dictionary should come out with new vocabulary la...
Sentral means (Express Bus/Train) Station...:lol:but it doesn't - consider Plaza Sentral, M-Sentral, USJ Sentral, and others - those are just commercial developments, not public transport hubs.
I guess every decade needs its "go to" name to make developments feel "special" (or should I say "spesial" instead?)
'Damansara' (roughly 1990-2000 - Damansara Jaya, Damansara Uptown, Mutiara Damansara, Flora Damansara, Damansara Perdana, Sunway Damansara, Kota Damansara);
'Sentral' (roughly 2000-2010 - KL Sentral, Melaka Sentral, Putrajaya Sentral, Kuching Sentral, USJ Sentral, JB Sentral, Ipoh Sentral, Penang Sentral, now Pudu Sentral)
I suppose the "1"-prefix is just the thing for this decade - started with 1Utama, but then multiplied with 1 Borneo, then 1Malaysia turned it into something else.
Cheers, m

Personally, I'd be more impressed if he had announced that the terminal now had a real website, hotline phone number and presence on facebook & twitter - as well as #SPAD enforcement team.

"Dahulu (Puduraya) sangat panas, sangat bising. Orang tua seperti saya sangat tidak selesa keadaan seperti itu. Saya sangat berpuas hati dengan penambahbaikan kemudahan di sini. Memang sangat berbeza kalau dibandingkan dengan yang dulu," katanya.
Bagi Maimunah Ahmad Pardi, 55, persekitaran Pudu Sentral yang bersih dan nyaman membolehkan orang ramai menunggu bas dalam keadaan yang selesa walaupun penumpang terpaksa menunggu lama.

CoolFellas September 5th, 2011, 02:10 PM y not we make petition to object new name as it demolished heritage. remember that Victoria Institution got back their former name after a couple of years using SMK Victoria name?
Victoria Institution is another story as the government tried to erase everything related to the colonial legacy such as name of the towns, streets, buildings. The decolonisation process started since Malaysia got independence and rigorously when Tun Mahathir took into power in 1981 in his campaign 'Buy British Last' to detach Malaysia from British colonial. Some of the names totally changed to be more Malaysian sounds as example Wellesley Province to Seberang Perai, Victoria to Bandar Labuan, Jesselton to Kota Kinabalu and some just simply translated to Malay language as example Church Street in Penang to Lebuh Gereja, Old Market Square in KL to Medan Pasar Besar and many more. However some places like Georgetown, Butterworth, Cameron Highland etc still remained unchanged. Some street names already existed in Malay name and never changed by British during colonial time as example Jalan Pudu, Imbi, Sentul etc.
Nevertheless in this case its a norm as it also happened to other countries where renaming of places, cities, streets etc by the authorities for legacy purposes such as in England names origin from Gaelic, Norman (French), etc changed to Anglo-Saxon sounds but some remained unchanged and sound like foreign language. In Kelantan, after PAS took power, some places also changed their names as example Kampung Beruk (Monkey Village) to Kampung Jambu (Guava Village) due to all the times the villagers get insulted by the name, and Pantai Cinta Berahi (Beach of Passionate Love) to Pantai Cahaya Bulan (Beach of Moon Lighting) due to its vulgar sound.
Puduraya is renamed to Pudu Sentral for me not considered as violated to national heritage as the building itself not a national heritage and the name given by the same government (BN) when its built. However it just such a lame to simply change the name due to renovation and upgrading. :ohno:
Ok, lets forget about the name. The most important is the facilities that has been provided and to push the government to sort out the big eyesore of KL, Plaza Rakyat!

I think this different aspect as every nation or language has different spelling and pronounce for naming of the places. As example Malaysia, is pronounced as Malizia by Arabs, Malezya by Turkish, Malaisie by French, Malezija by Bosanski (Bosnia), Maleisië by Dutch (Holland), Malasia by Spanish and Portuguese, Malesia by Italian, Malasya by Tagalog (Philippines) and so on. Even Singapore also English version of Singapura, and Mecca English version of Makkah (and many Muslim scholars also banned naming as Mecca due to misled meaning in English as even Casino here in the UK named as Mecca). We also called USA as Amerika Syarikat, Holland as Belanda, France as Peranchis..:)

Monday September 12, 2011
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2011/9/12/nation/9444308&sec=nation
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, together with the help of the Malaysian citizens online, has decided on a new name for the refurbished iconic Puduraya bus terminal.
Najib said during a walkabout at the 35-year old facility on 27th August that the decision to rebrand the bus terminal as Pudu Sentral was to reflect its new and modern image.
The Prime Minister said the renovation and redesign of the bus terminal resulted in an airport-like facility that all Malaysians can be proud of.
Najib had garnered public feedback and personally directed for improvements to be made for a more comfortable experience for the commuters.
The terminal has walkalators, a bubble lift, fully air-conditioned waiting area and closed-circuit TV cameras for security.
Commuters gave their approval for the upgraded landmark which also included improved services.
Pudu Sentral's upgrade is an initiative under the GTP's Urban Public Transport NKRA to provide an improved commuting experience to the public.

gabriellim January 5th, 2012, 11:53 PM what is the product differentiation between the newly renovated Pudu Sentral and other terminals?
if ITT-BTS is for southern routes, Putra (about to be shut down) is for Eastern, and ITT Gombak the future terminus for Eastern routes, what are Duta and Pudu Sentral for? What about Pasar Rakyat, 1Utama, etc etc?
In our basic belief, is it better to have a combined station, or stations scattering around all over the place?

In our basic belief, is it better to have a combined station, or stations scattering around all over the place?Once eastern buses are relocated to Gombak and northbound buses relocated to Sg. Buloh or Kota D'sara, Pudu Sentral will be a terminal for intra-urban buses (kL-Rawang, KL-Klang, KL-Putrajaya, KL-Seremban) and stage buses.
Cheers, m
CxIxMaN January 14th, 2012, 02:38 AM Why cant they have one main bus terminal and get rid of the other bus terminals? Its confusing to have so many terminals around the city. esp for tourists.

i wish a bus terminal in sg buloh area (for damansara/rawang/sg buloh/kepong residents) to cater outbound passengers to north/south or east coast .
no need to go into the city anymore.
avoid traffic jam and save time.
allurban January 14th, 2012, 06:32 AM Why cant they have one main bus terminal and get rid of the other bus terminals? Its confusing to have so many terminals around the city. esp for tourists.because they had one since the 1970s (Puduraya) but traffic congestion and the number of bus companies (and buses) increased in the 1980s...
Also, KL has expanded further into Selangor, so development requires more public transport infrastructure to support the movement of people.
The important thing to do is ensure that all the terminals are connected to the railway network and connected by a dedicated shuttle bus service (following MRRII, it seems)
