BETTER FOR THE PEOPLE: Jaafar (right) answering
questions from the media on the newlook Puduraya
ALL is set for Puduraya to be the landmark of KL after its upgrading works are completed by the end of next year.
UDA managing director Datuk Jaafar Abu Hassan said yesterday the company welcomed the Prime Minister's comments to upgrade the building for the comfort of the people.
"There would also be a banking hall concept with around 10-12 counters that would provide electronic ticketing services. We feel this would tackle the tout problem," Jaafar said.
He added that currently Puduraya caters for between 75,000 to 80,000 people on a weekday and over 100,000 people on weekends, excluding festive seasons.
When asked if upgrading works for the terminal could cope with the demands when Puduraya is fully converted into a city bus terminal, Jaafar said: "The refurbishment works is to cater for current needs that are pressing. We are not doing it for that (city bus terminal)."
The three-stage makeover, which will cost a total of RM30.3 million, will see the 33-year-old bus hub being refurbished with escalators, walkalators, a bigger and more comfortable waiting area akin to that found at airports.
Electronic ticket booking facilities will also be introduced.
A budget of RM25m that will be used for the refurbishment works was tabled at the Finance Ministry and was approved by the government.
Stage one of the refurbishing works, which would costs RM5.3 million, is funded wholly by UDA Holdings Berhad and ongoing works include upgrading the fire resistance system, building a pedestrian walkway between the Plaza Rakyat LRT station and Puduraya, painting works, upgrading of toilets as well as adding more waiting areas at the mezzanine level.
Other initiatives taken under the second and third phases would include a new food court and surau, adding of more passenger lifts, introduction of children playing area, additional cargo lifts and replacing new exhaust fans at the basement.
There would also be facilities such as toilets and ramps to cater for the disabled.
Puduraya presently houses southern and northern bound buses at its premises.
The new Integrated Transport Terminal-Southern Sector (ITT-S) in Bandar Tasik Selatan is due to be completed by the end of next year and would see the operations of southern bound buses from Puduraya shifted there.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz had said that Puduraya would be turned into a city bus terminal, and a new bus hub to cater for northern bound buses would be built either in Gombak or Selayang.
UDA to take over Puduraya Hotel
THE operations of Puduraya Hotel will be taken over by UDA Holdings Sdn Bhd by next year.
This was made known by UDA managing director Datuk Jaafar Abu Hassan at a Press conference yesterday.
Though the hotel was built in 1976, the management and running of the hotel was leased to Puduraya Hotel Sdn Bhd.
“In the past we did not have experience in the hotel industry and thus it was rented out. We have, however, been toying with the idea to take over the running of the hotel for the past six to seven years. Now that we will be spending a lot to refurbish Puduraya, we think it is fit for us to run the hotel as well.”
Jaafar said the hotel would be managed by Uda AnCasa Sdn Bhd by Feb 1.
“We are also taking over the Puduraya Hotel operations in light of the upgrading being carried out in Puduraya.”
Notices too have been served to the current operators of the hotel.
The group presently operates AnCasa Hotel and Spa KL, AnCasa AllSuites Resort & Spa Port Dickson, Jerejak Rainforest Resort Penang, and Kuala Terengganu Golf Resort.

Ubah suai bangunan babit kos RM31j
Khamis lalu, UDA Holdings Berhad (UDA), pengendali Hentian Puduraya mengumumkan bakal mengubah suai bangunan berkenaan menjadikannya hampir menyamai kemudahan di lapangan terbang membabitkan kos bernilai RM31 juta.
nazrey July 6th, 2009, 11:05 PM 'Berikan UDA kuasa penuh'
Oleh WAN NAJIB WAN DAUD
KUALA LUMPUR 9 Julai - UDA Holdings Bhd.

nazrey July 13th, 2009, 05:15 PM New Puduraya Waiting Area Ready Before Hari Raya
July 13, 2009 22:49 PM
KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 (Bernama) -- The new waiting area at the Puduraya bus station, which can accommodate more than 700 people, will be completed before the Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said the new waiting area would be known as 'Mezzaine Floor' and located on the second floor of the 33-year-old bus station which was currently undergoing renovation.
Upon completion, he said the new waiting area, equipped with various facilities including eateries and shoplots, would give comfort to passengers and reduce congestion," he told reporters after visiting Puduraya Monday.
Raja Nong Chik was accompanied by his deputy, Datuk M. Saravanan and Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Ahmad Fuad Ismail.
The renovation is part of a RM30.3 million upgrading project for the Puduraya bus station which will take place in three stages and expected to be completed by the end of next year.
Later, Raja Nong Chik visited Petaling Street where the famous 'Chinatown' is located.
He said rooftops in the Chinatown area would be upgraded at a cost of RM2 million, adding that green-coloured rooftops would replace the old ones.

AS Federal Territories Minister Senator Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin approaches his 100 days in office, he spoke candidly of his experiences as the fifth FT Minister.
The relatively unknown corporate figure whose appointment surprised many shared some of his thoughts and visions with StarMetro and discussed his aspirations of turning Kuala Lumpur into a liveable city, his feelings when accused of being a sexist and how much he missed the simpler things in life.

Walkabout: Raja Nong Chik (front, in white) accompanying Prime Minister
Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak (centre) during his KL walkabout.
SM: Your walkabout with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in April highlighted loopholes in our public transport system. One solution was to upgrade the decaying Puduraya bus terminal at a cost of RM30mil. Critics see this as a waste of taxpayers money since its purely cosmetic and does nothing to ease congestion in the area.
RNC: An average of 50,000 people use the facilities at Puduraya daily. That’s 350,000 people a week and 1.5 million a month. This upgrade is necessary to provide comfort to the poorer half of KL. Also, we need to start encouraging people to start taking public transport when they come into the city.
Right now, 1.3 million vehicles come into the city daily. Out of that number, 70% are single occupant vehicles. We need to create a 70:30 modal split – with 70% opting to use public transport. But no matter what you do now to control congestion, it is not going to go away because there’s just too many cars coming into the city.
However, transport does not come under the FT Ministry and there are many agencies involved. We need a comprehensive transport plan for the Klang Valley and ideally one agency to deal with transportation. Clearly, a long-term solution is needed here.
The announcement by the Prime Minister that about 44,000 low-cost houses under the Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) will be offered for sale to existing tenants is a sign of this promise. But only those currently staying at the PPR will be offered a chance to buy the units.

KUALA LUMPUR: Express bus passengers this Hari Raya can expect a more comfortable waiting area at the Puduraya bus terminal.
This is because the mezzanine floor which is currently being upgraded will be ready before the "balik kampung" rush.
The mezzanine floor which used to house the banks will be converted into a waiting area which can accommodate up to 700 passengers at a time.
The major facelift is part of the RM30.3 million upgrading work on the Puduraya bus terminal which is slated to be completed next year.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said work on the refurbishment of the mezzanine floor had started even before the recent visit by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
"We want passengers to be comfortable at all times and that is why this section of the station will be completed before the festive season starts," he said.
The minister also refuted claims that the multi-million ringgit spent on upgrading the Puduraya bus terminal was a waste as it would cater to a number of bus services.
The minister was speaking to the press after completing a two-hour walkabout at the Puduraya bus terminal and also in Petaling Street.
He was accompanied by his deputy Datuk M. Saravanan, the ministry's secretary-general Datuk Ahmad Phesal Talib, Bukit Bintang member of parliament Fong Kui Lun, City Hall mayor Datuk Ahmad Fuad Ismail, Petaling Street Hawkers and Petty Traders Association president Datuk Ang Say Tee and City Hall officials.
Raja Nong Chik also announced that the dilapidated roof covering Petaling Street would be replaced with a roof made of sturdy polycarbonate material.
"The same material will be used to replace the canvas roofing for the stalls so that they will look uniformed," he said.
Raja Nong Chik said the exercise would cost around RM2 million and work on the roof replacement would begin early next month.
Ang said the replacement was timely as the roof had got worse over the years.
"It was installed in 2001 and had not been replaced since," he said. -- By Halim Said

Puduraya Terminal
rizalhakim July 15th, 2009, 07:21 AM Work going on smoothly at Puduraya
By LIM CHIA YING
THE ongoing upgrading and renovation work at the Puduraya bus terminal is to his satisfaction, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said.
He said some facilities were expected to be completed before the Hari Raya festive season, like the bus waiting area on the mezzanine floor which, when ready, could accommodate up to 700 people.
“However, I also took note that there are certain things that can only be completed by next year,” Raja Nong Chik said.
He was speaking to reporters after a walkabout in Puduraya and later Petaling Street, which he said was a follow-up to the earlier one by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“I wanted to see for myself the progress of both these places.”
Also present with him were Deputy Federal Territories Minister Datuk M. Saravanan, Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Ahmad Fuad Ismail, Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun, Federal Territories Ministry secretary-general Datuk Ahmad Phesal Talib, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) director-general Datuk Salleh Yusop, and also UDA Holdings Bhd officials.
Over at Petaling Street, Raja Nong Chik said some RM2mil would be spent to change the big roof as well as that of the individual stalls.
“We want the stalls to follow the specification allowed by DBKL so the new roof will help beautify the street.
“Standard green roofing will be used to replace the current canvas roofs.
“Tender has been called so work should start in two to three weeks,” he said.
To a question whether the RM30.3mil upgrading of Puduraya was a waste of money, Raja Nong Chik said it was not.
“Frankly, Puduraya needs to be upgraded. With the refurbishment, passengers will be able to travel in comfort,” he said.
The Bandar Tasik Selatan hub once completed by the end of next year would cater to passengers travelling south with some 500 buses expected to use the place.
In a July 3 report by StarMetro, UDA Holdings Bhd managing director Datuk Jaafar Abu Hassan was quoted as saying that the refurbishment exercise was divided into three phases and the ongoing first phase involved upgrading of the fire prevention system, changing the chillers for a cooler environment, developing a pedestrian walk between the terminal to Star LRT station, as well as painting and upgrading the restrooms.
Meanwhile, Fong said he welcomed the minister visiting the two areas under his constituency.
“For Puduraya, I have proposed to UDA to build another entrance of which the land is under the DBKL.
“If this entrance can be built, I believe it can help ease the congestion outside the main road.
“I’ve also proposed for more disabled-friendly lifts and ramps to be built, but I don’t know if these proposals will be considered,” Fong said .
He added that he had also proposed for the bus terminal to be relocated to a bigger site such as the former Pudu Jail area.
However, UDA had told him that the land would be expensive to acquire.

rizalhakim August 24th, 2009, 07:15 AM Temporary bus depot to replace Puduraya
By BAVANI M
THE Federal Territories Ministry has identified a spot in Section 56, Jalan Hang Tuah, for a temporary bus depot while the 30-year-old Puduraya bus terminal undergoes upgrading work.
The site, which is located at the junction of Jalan Pudu and Jalan Galloway, is now used by the police to hold vehicles involved in accidents.
The area is being cleared to enable contractors to start work on phase 1 of the project.
Deputy Federal Territories Minister Datuk M. Saravanan, who visited the site on Friday for the ground-breaking ceremony, said the project was divided into Phase 1 and 2 and was expected to be completed by January 2010.
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2009/8/24/central/p4sara.jpg
At the wheel of the excavator: Saravanan launching the groundbreaking ceremony for the temporary bus holding bay.
“Once completed, the depot will be able to take in 135 buses at a time.
“This will ease the traffic congestion in the Pudu area considerably while Puduraya undergoes a facelift,” he said.
Saravanan added that once the depot was ready, the authorities would also be able to ensure only registered buses used the bays to curb congestion.
He said the area, spanning some 1.9ha, would also have facilities like public toilets, bus washing area, rest area for drivers, prayer rooms, changing rooms, and car and motorcycle parking bays.
When asked what would happen to the depot once Puduraya resumed its functions, Saravanan said the land would be used by the government for future contingency plans.
The project is estimated to cost RM6.2mil.
Puduraya is infamous for its congestion, pollution and crime, hence the government felt the need to improve its image for the benefit of passengers.
The facelift, which will cost RM31mil – of which the government will be funding RM25mil with the rest coming from the Urban Development Authority (UDA) – will transform Puduraya into a modern inner-city bus terminal with contemporary design and first-class facilities.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of November 2010.
Saravanan said when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak went on his walkabout in April, the Puduraya area was identified as a major source of the daily massive congestion in Kuala Lumpur and the prime minister had requested that immediate steps be taken to improve the situation.

M. Saravanan (dua, kiri) mendengar taklimat daripada Jurutera Projek Jabatan Kerja Awam DBKL, Noor Shafri Pitah (kanan) sewaktu melawat tapak pembangunan Depot Bas Sementara di Jalan Hang Tuah, Kuala Lumpur, baru-baru ini.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CONTRACTORS hired to build the much awaited bus holding bay in Jalan Hang Tuah, while Puduraya undergoes a face-lift, have been working round the clock to ensure that phase 1 of the bus depot is ready before Hari Raya.
Once Phase 1 is completed, the bus depot will be able to ease the traffic congestion along Jalan Pudu during the festive season as by then over 30 bus bays would be ready to accommodate the buses.
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2009/9/15/central/m_04puduraya.jpg
Solution: The bus holding bay will help ease traffic congestion at Puduraya.
When StarMetro visited the project site on Sunday, workers were already laying out the concrete blocks along the pavements for the bays, and site supervisor N.K Kung said 90% of the work had been completed and that they would be able to hand over the site by Wednesday.
Two weeks ago, at a ground-breaking ceremony, Deputy Federal Territories Minister Datuk M. Saravanan said the temporary bus depot would help reduce congestion caused by buses parked haphazardly along Jalan Pudu.
“Instead of parking along Jalan Pudu, the buses will be able to wait at the holding bay before proceeding to Puduraya to pick up passengers,” he said.
He said the project was divided into Phase 1 and 2 and expected to be completed by Jan 31, next year.

Painstaking task: A worker laying the concrete blocks at the bus holding bay in Jalan Hang Tuah.
Once completed, the depot will be able to accommodate 135 buses at a time.
Also, the authorities would also be able to ensure only registered buses used the bays, to curb touting.
The area, spanning about 1.9ha, will also have facilities like public toilets, bus washing area, rest area for drivers, prayer rooms, changing rooms and car and motorcycle parking bays.
The project is estimated to cost RM6.2mil.
allurban September 15th, 2009, 07:21 AM Great news, isnt it.
The terminal is being finished really fast - and after the renovation starts and the buses shift to BTS, it can be used as a holding area for urban buses - get them off the streets finally!
One has to wonder, why did they wait for so long!
Cheers, m

Najib Happy With Improvement At Puduraya Terminal
September 16, 2009 21:15 PM
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is happy with the changes taking place at the Puduraya Terminal, here.
In a walkabout at the facility Wednesday, he said he was happy that the terminal's management, UDA Holdings Bhd (UDA), had taken the necessary steps to give the terminal a facelift in just 51 days.
"I believe that those using the terminal will feel much better and comfortable now," he said after spending about 15 minutes touring the facilities at the terminal.
This was Najib's second walkabout at the terminal after the first one on April 25 where he called for a better facility for the benefit of consumers.
Najib said a total of RM52 million was allocated to turn the whole Puduraya Terminal into a modern and comprehensive hub, with the first phase of the work, costing RM4.2 million, now completed.
"The second phase will come on stream and in about a year, this place will change radically," he said, adding that he would be visiting the terminal again after the second phase was completed.
Works include expanding the passenger waiting area by three times and putting in place modern lots for business outlets and landscapes around the terminal.
On the Plaza Rakyat project which was abandoned since 12 years ago, Najib said the National Economic Council was looking at it and would make a decision soon.
The Plaza Rakyat project, comprising three buildings of 79 storeys, 49 storeys and 21 storeys for office lots, condominium and hotel respectively, costs around RM1.2 billion.

rizalhakim October 22nd, 2009, 06:45 AM Caj berpatutan - Uda Mall
KUALA LUMPUR 21 Okt.

THE RM6.1mil bus holding bay in Jalan Hang Tuah which was built recently to ease congestion in Puduraya is underused.:ohno:
A check at the site during the weekend and yesterday during the morning and evening found that there were fewer than 10 buses parked at the bay – a stark contrast to the scene at Puduraya which showed buses lined up bumper to bumper and causing massive congestion along the road.
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2010/2/24/central/m_02puduraya.jpg
Work in progress: The renovation plans include stalls on the rooftop area of the Puduraya Bus Terminal.
The holding bay was specifically built for express buses to wait at the holding point instead of parking outside the terminal while waiting to pick up or drop off passengers.
The holding bay is built on a 1.9ha piece of land belonging to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL). It is managed by UDA Holdings Bhd and regulated by the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board. If fully used, the bay is able to accommodate 135 buses.
Other facilities at the holding bay include a cafeteria, surau, an office, guard post as well as public parking for cars and motorcycles.
During the Chinese New Year celebration, the road in front of the terminal had been reduced from a two-lane road into a single lane, causing massive congestion with traffic stretching almost a kilometre long.
“What is the point of building something and not making use of it,’’ asked a disgruntled taxi driver who only wished to be identified as Siva.
Siva, who had received a booking to pick up a passenger from Puduraya yesterday said he was caught in a 30-minute gridlock in front of the terminal.
“Luckily the passenger waited for me instead of taking another taxi and my trip to Puduraya was not wasted,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, hotels and restaurants located along Jalan Pudu also lament about the massive congestion along the road which they claim is affecting their business.
“Last week, a busload of tourists from Taiwan who were supposed to have dinner at my restaurant did not turn up. I suspect the bad traffic jam forced them to go elsewhere,’’ complained the owner of a Chinese restaurant.
A source at Swiss Garden Hotel Kuala Lumpur said the congestion had inconvenienced the businesses along Jalan Pudu, particularly the stretch where the hotel is situated.
“Imagine being stuck just outside of the hotel for 40 minutes because the buses are blocking our path,’’ she said.
“We have highlighted this matter to the authorities many times and to be fair, the DBKL enforcement officers have made sure that the buses do not park on the yellow boxes. But one cannot expect them to be there all day,’’ she said, adding that long- term solutions were clearly needed to resolve the perennial city problem.
Meanwhile, UDA Holdings Bhd is expected to call for a press conference next month to announce the closing of the 30-year-old terminal to facilitate renovation work.
According to UDA sources who are working at the Puduraya terminal, the south-bound bus services will soon be shifted to the bus holding bay in Jalan Hang Tuah, while northbound services will be based at the Jalan Duta station.
A whopping RM52mil was allocated to turn the terminal into a modern and comprehensive transportation hub, with the first phase of work costing RM4.2mil completed last September. The second phase will start next month.
Although some feel the area might be less congested when the terminal is closed for renovation work, there are those who feel that other problems may crop up.
Bus driver Hanapiah Ismail, 45, is one who thinks that matters will become a lot worse than before.
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2010/2/24/central/m_02longline.jpg
Troublesome: Some passengers are forced to walk far to board their buses.
“South-bound drivers will have a tough time getting into the Hang Tuah holding bay as Jalan Hang Tuah is usually congested and it will take an hour or more to enter and pick up passengers,” he said.
Bukit Bintang MP Fung Kui Lun anticipates that the traffic situation will become worse in the future.
“A traffic impact assessment and a feasibility study should have been carried out in the first place before deciding to open a bus holding bay in Jalan Hang Tuah,’’ he said.
“It is going to create congestion in surrounding areas like Jalan Imbi and Jalan Bukit Bintang,’’ he added.
When contacted a source from the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board (CVLB) denied that the Jalan Hang Tuah hold bay was underused.
“Although the place may look empty in the late mornings and afternoons, the area is fully used during peak hours, particularly between 7am and 9am and from 4pm onwards.
“It does help to ease out peak hour traffic madness,” said the source.
Meanwhile, a spokesman from UDA Holdings Bhd said traffic congestion around Jalan Pudu only occurred during festive seasons when the bus operators increased their number of buses to cater to the high demand.
She said the traffic situation had been made worse due to the ongoing work at Puduraya whereby few of the bus platforms could not be used because of the upgrading work.
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2010/2/24/central/m_02mahpoz.jpg
Under control: Mahpoz Adam Shah, 57, checking the docking slips before letting the buses enter Puduraya.
“We are going to widen the platform area by demolishing part of the staircase and relook the express bus schedule,” she said, adding that there were also cases where the buses arrived later than scheduled and headed straight to the Puduraya Terminal for their next trip, disrupting the schedule of other buses waiting to pick up passengers.
She added that UDA was also coordinating with the authorities to issue traffic summonses to buses parked illegally in Jalan Pudu and Jalan Hang Tuah.
“We hope that once the upgrading work is completed, it will ease the traffic congestion along Jalan Pudu,” she added.

SHAH FIRDAUS February 26th, 2010, 12:45 AM Reduce public discomfort during renovation period, Puduraya management told

THE management of the Puduraya Terminal has been instructed to come up with a plan to minimise the inconvenience to commuters and motorists as well those living and working in the surrounding area when the bus terminal closes for renovation work next month.
Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin told reporters yesterday during a site inspection that UDA Holdings Berhad had been instructed to ensure that any stress or discomfort to the people were reduced during the period.
“It will take about four months for Puduraya to undergo refurbishing work and there will be some disruption during that period, but please be patient and bear with us as this is just temporary,’’ Nong Chik said.
The minister said agencies like the Comercial Vehicles Licensing Board (CVLB), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the police had been told to beef up enforcement during the renovation period to ensure that buses do not hog the road in front of the terminal.
Nong Chik also visited the bus holding bay in Jalan Hang Tuah which was built for south-bound express buses.
“The buses are supposed to park at the Hang Tuah holding bay and not outside Puduraya anymore. Drivers should make use of the facilities that have been built for their comfort,’’ he added.
The minister was commenting on a recent report in The Star regarding the worsening congestion in the Puduraya area.
While he emphathised with the people, Nong Chik said there must also be a compromise on this matter as the long-term benefits would certainly outweigh the discomforts they were now facing.
Meanwhile, UDA Holdings Berhad senior general manager Shytul Shahryn Mohamad Shaari said he would do everything possible to cut down on the discomfort to the public during the next four months.
It was earlier reported that Puduraya’s congestion is getting from bad to worse despite the presence of the bus holding bay in Jalan Hang Tuah.
The situation was particularly chronic during the Chinese New Year celebrations recently when the road in front of the terminal had been reduced from a two-lane road into a single lane, causing massive congestion with traffic stretching almost a kilometre long.
However, during Nong Chik’s visit yesterday, traffic was back to normal and the number of buses parked outside the terminal was greatly reduced.
This was probably due to the large number of enforcement officers from the DBKL stationed at the site.

The whole idea of building the new terminal at tasik selatan and gombak is to put the end of puduraya once and for all but NOOOOOOO they would rather still spend more money i simply loose count how many time they renovated this building!:bash:

KUALA LUMPUR: The Puduraya bus terminal will be closed for four months from March 19.
UDA Holdings Bhd managing director Datuk Jaafar Abu Hassan said the closure was to allow for works that would upgrade the terminal and provide more comfort to travellers.
"The upgrading is a drastic step taken by UDA to confront the matters of travel discomfort, lack of amenities and traffic congestion around the terminal.

By LIM CHIA YING Thursday March 18, 2010
THE March 19 relocation date for Puduraya traders has been postponed indefinitely.
Several traders said they had been told that they would not move to Jalan Hang Tuah at the moment during a closed-door meeting with UDA Holdings Bhd.
They were to relocate there to facilitate the closure of the Puduraya bus terminal from March 19 onwards but, according to a press statement issued by UDA, this has also been delayed.
Trader Chan Kaw, 67, said they were informed that the plan to move the traders to Jalan Hang Tuah had been cancelled but no reason was given.
“They told us they were looking for a new location but none had been found yet. For now we are still allowed to operate in Puduraya until further notice,” said Chan, who has been operating at Puduraya for the last 34 years.
“They proposed Bukit Jalil as a possible location and asked us if we would agree to move there.
“If the confirmed site is Bukit Jalil, I don’t think I would move due to the distance and I’ll just take a break during the months that Puduraya will be closed,” Chan said.
Another pioneer trader, who wished to be known as Choo, said they were told that those who chose not to move but returned after the upgrade would be given compensation in rental fees of between three and four months.
“We only listened to what they had to say in the meeting, which was more of an announcement than anything else. For now, we can only wait for them to get back to us,” Choo, 61, said.
Mazlan Tomin also added that he would only decide whether to move once the new location had been confirmed.
“They also handed out forms for us to agree or disagree to the proposed site in Bukit Jalil.
“I think there are more traders who will disagree,” said Mazlan, who has been working at one of the shops for the past 12 years.
It is learnt that UDA representatives would present feedback from the meeting to their directors for discussions. An announcement on the new relocation site and closure date as well as the new temporary trading site will only be revealed at a later date.
Meanwhile, in its press statement, UDA said the postponement of the terminal closure was a joint decision made following meetings with the Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Ministry, the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board (CVLB), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the Road Transport Department and the police.
Some hotels and restaurants in the area were disappointed with the delay, as there was still a long queue of buses stationed along Jalan Pudu leading to the terminal.

Puduraya Terminal Bus Operations To Move Temporarily To Bukit Jalil Beginning April 12
KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 (BERNAMA) -- All bus services to the north and the south that are now operating from the Puduraya Terminal will move to a temporary terminal at Bukit Jalil (Parking Lot F) besides the hockey stadium beginning April 12.
According to the acting manager of corporate communications of Uda Holdings Berhad, Zuhaznim Izzudin, the move was to smoothen the renovation and upgrading of the Puduraya Terminal that will be completed in four months.
She said however taxi services to Genting Highlands and hired vehicles headed for the north and south would still operate from the Puduraya Terminal.
"Travellers can proceed to the temporary terminal using public transport like the LRT, taxis and buses and in that regard RapidKL bus service will be provided from the Puduraya Terminal to Bukit Jalil and back at 15-minute intervals," she said in a statement Tuesday.
Zuhaznim said food stalls and trading stalls, as well as surau and public toilets, will be provided in the area of the Bukit Jalil Hockey Stadium beside the temporary terminal.
She said for the convenience of travellers information counters would be at the Puduraya Terminal and the temporary Bukit Jalil terminal and all information regarding the move can be got on the hotlines 03-20787017 and 03-20786018.

The project is estimated to cost RM6.2mil.

allurban April 8th, 2010, 04:59 AM if not mistaken the issue of SJ Bus and Metrobus polluting KL's oldest enclave has already been raised couple of years ago....:(Certainly...and it will continue to be raised.
If the temporary bus stop is available at least one of the arguments - that there is no bus stabling area in KL - can be taken away.
The next argument will be that there is traffic congestion between the Hang Tuah depot and Kota Raya but it can be worked out.
Allurban whats the deal with metrobus and SJ bus? They can just park and wait for pax anywhere they like!I have seen their buses doing over 100kmh on the ampang elevated highway!Wrote to LPKP a few time still nothing .Is it true that koperasi polis is largest share holder in these bus company?Degilo, I think it is just remarkable persistence on the part of the drivers and conductors combined with poor laws & not enough enforcement powers.
First, if a bus or taxi receives a summons for parking, racing, speeding, being poorly maintained, etc, that summons goes to the driver - not the owner of the permit.
If the driver chooses to pay the summons (and you know that many would not) then they have to make the money back - and they do it by coming back to the same place at the same time tomorrow, where the customers will be. They also drive at high speed from place to place so that they can get more customers and therefore, more money.
I have been told that one of the changes we will see with the new SPAD is that the permit holders will actually be forced to pay summonses - but then, I think the permit holders will just tack the cost of summonses onto the daily pajak rate and we will see the same problem as before.
So I think that overall, it comes down to enforcement.
One good thing is that the new law will give JPJ, PDRM Traffic, PBT enforcement and SPAD/CVLB officers joint powers - meaning that there is no need for joint enforcement exercises - a JPJ officer can issue summonses on behalf of PDRM Traffic, PBT Enforcement, SPAD/CVLB and the other officers can do the same. That means that more areas can be tackled at the same time since the enforcement can be spread out instead of having to be concentrated with joint operations.

rizalhakim April 12th, 2010, 06:42 AM Terminal Bukit Jalil mula operasi

Menurut Ketua Pegawai Operasi Uda Mall Sdn.
rizalhakim April 13th, 2010, 08:49 AM Bukit Jalil takes over as express bus terminal
KUALA LUMPUR: North and south-bound travellers now have to take their buses at Bukit Jalil following the four-month closure of the Puduraya bus terminal.
The closure, which took effect yesterday, is to facilitate upgrading and renovation works at the Pudu-raya terminal.
However, many were unaware of the change and turned up at the terminal.

Temporary site: Passengers waiting to board a bus at the Bukit Jalil Complex Parking Lot F Monday.
Although notices were put up to indicate shuttle buses were being provided by RapidKL at a fee of RM2, from Puduraya to Bukit Jalil and vice-versa, passengers said the signs were not visible enough and they only realised the terminal was closed upon seeing all the shutters down.
Traders operating in the terminal were also unhappy that they were given less than a week’s notice to move to the new site.
Some demolition works started yesterday as hawker stalls in the food court were taken down.
Taxi services to Genting High-lands, however, are still operating from the terminal.
The Bukit Jalil Complex Parking Lot F, which serves as the new temporary site, only serves passengers headed north and south while east-bound travellers still have to board the bus at Hentian Putra.

THE Puduraya bus terminal was closed yesterday for at least the next four months but a trail of garbage has been left behind, making the place look like a dumping ground.
A check inside the terminal revealed that since early morning, the management had started tearing down the food court section comprising hawker stalls and steel structures and beams.
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2010/4/13/central/m_2route.jpg
Deserted: The main terminal, which is usual a hive of activity, went quiet yesterday after the relocation exercise.
Some parts of the terminal have been inundated by water, leaving the floor slippery and filthy.
On the other side of the terminal the traders’ shops were also being slowly cleared. Some traders were seen throwing out whatever they did not need while others were carting away their gas tanks and belongings.
Currently, the only entry to the terminal is via the overhead bridge and taxi services to Genting Highlands and rental cars bound for the north and south still operate from here.
A level down, the terminal was devoid of the usual buzz and waiting passengers, save for some traders and security personnel hired by UDA Management to monitor the place.
Many people were caught unawares by the closure, as they continued to make their way to the main entrance before realising that the shutters were down.
While a big banner had been put up to inform commuters that North/South-bound buses had been relocated to the Bukit Jalil Complex Parking Lot F (adjacent to the Bukit Jalil hockey stadium), it was apparent that it had gone unnoticed by many.
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2010/4/13/central/m_2empty.jpg
All quiet: A stall owner carting away her belongings through the empty passageways.
RapidKL shuttle buses were provided to ferry passengers to and from Bukit Jalil, at a fee of RM2 with a frequency of 15 minutes.
However, notices informing passengers of where the shuttle bus services could be taken were only put up at 10.10am.
Passenger Chan Yoke Sim, 59, said she did not know of the closure until seeing the closed doors when she reached Puduraya.
“Even my taxi driver friend who dropped me off did not know it was closed,” Chan, who is heading for Batu Pahat, Johor, said.
“This is so inconvenient for elderly people like me and it’s a waste of our time and money to come here in the first place,” she added.
Teow Hong Keat, 19, who wanted to return to Alor Setar was also told to head to Bukit Jalil instead.
Meanwhile, inside the terminal, trader Tan Ann Sze, who was seen packing his stuff, said he was only notified six days ago that Puduraya was to be closed.
“Six days is not enough for us. Now that I’ll be relocating to Bukit Jalil, I’m worried if there will be business there for me,” Tan, 43, said.
The usually congested Jalan Pudu was also devoid of the usual lines of express buses normally parked by the roadside while waiting to pick up passengers inside.
RapidKL booth supervisor Mohamed Atan, who was coordinating the RapidKL shuttle buses outside the terminal, said there were six buses dedicated to ferrying the passengers to and fro for the next few months.
“One of my colleagues in Bukit Jalil said the tents there had not been properly set up.
“It is also congested coming out of the Bukit Jalil carpark as our buses are blocked by the express buses so it takes about an hour just to get there.
“However, the situation is usually a little disorderly on the first day,” he said.
Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun, who had received several complaints from the hawkers about the short notice, said the planning of the relocation was poor while there were not enough signs to guide passengers.
“A lot of people are still in the dark. Some taxi drivers even took the opportunity to charge high fares to ferry passengers to Bukit Jalil. I hope the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board will take action.
“Today, I met a luggage kiosk operator, who said a lot of luggage was still stored inside the terminal as they have not been claimed by the owners. He said he did not know what to do with the luggage,” Fong said after his morning visit to the site.
He also lashed out at the temporary bus terminal in Jalan Galloway/Jalan Hang Tuah, which he said was being abandoned despite being built for RM6mil.
The closure and relocation date was initially targeted for March 19 before being postponed to yesterday.
A media tour of the Bukit Jalil site was held on Sunday. There were 98 ticket counters, a waiting area with 3,000 seats and 24 food stalls capable of accommodating 600 customers at any one time.
A UDA press statement said an enquiry counter under the UDA Mall was also available at Puduraya and Bukit Jalil.
While Bukit Jalil accommodates North and South-bound travellers, those heading to the East Coast should go to Hentian Putra, which belongs to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
UDA also said the unused Hang Tuah facility was for urban buses that it said were already operating at the site.
The upgrading work at Puduraya is expected to take four months to complete.

As for getting to Bukit Jalil from Sunway, you would have to take RapidKL U63/U67/U76 from Sunway to Pasar Seni and then U71 to Bukit Jalil-but the cost of the bus to Bukit Jalil is more than the shuttle from Puduraya - Bukit Jalil.
Alternatively you can take the LRT to the Bukit Jalil LRT station - then walk from the station to the temporary terminal.

Victor18 May 21st, 2010, 10:20 AM ^^ Looks promising, but to cope with future capacity and commuters,it really needs Plaza Rakyat to cope with future demands, eventhough after receiving a renovation or without it.
Victor18 May 21st, 2010, 10:30 AM Thus,if i can recall, there suppose to be more bus terminals below Plaza Rakyat,in order to cope with more daily usage.Since Plaza Rakyat is slightly above street level,i assume that the terminal below it is completed but maybe still in its current form??

Victor18 May 23rd, 2010, 02:02 PM ^^ Maybe Plaza Rakyat was the only hope to fix Puduraya's flaws, like its below-grade bus terminal, which you can choke to death if you stand there for more than 10 mins, the size of the terminal itself, which is cramped, not mentioning over-capacity usage and cleanliness.
By giving it a facelift still wont overcome most of its problems but bah...
allurban May 24th, 2010, 07:57 AM Thus,if i can recall, there suppose to be more bus terminals below Plaza Rakyat,in order to cope with more daily usage.Since Plaza Rakyat is slightly above street level,i assume that the terminal below it is completed but maybe still in its current form??
http://i408.photobucket.com/albums/pp167/Impacto_photo/PlazaRakyat.jpgsomeone told me that the terminal was 95% completed before the project stopped.
Who knows if Prasarana would be interested in working to make the bus terminal viable again - they could have their RapidKL buses stage there.
I was at the Plaza Rakyat LRT station recently - it is now painted and far more bright than ever (but still a bit gloomy compared to other LRT stations).
Cheers, m

nazrey August 13th, 2010, 06:31 AM Puduraya Facelift Won't Be Ready Before Raya
August 12, 2010 22:57 PM
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- Uda Holdings Berhad said renovation work at the Puduraya bus station would not be ready before Raya as stated earlier.
Its chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said due to unavoidable circumstances, the Puduraya station would only resume operations by the year end.
"According to the initial plan, the renovation should be ready at the year end...but following the government's request, we agreed to try to complete it as soon as possible."
He said this to reporters after distributing 700 packets of bubur lambuk, a savoury rice porridge, to the public in conjunction with Ancasa Hotel's 'buka puasa' function with orphans and the less fortunate, here Thursday.
Due to the situation, he said, the temporary bus station in Bukit Jalil would continue to be used for the 'balik kampung' exodus this Aidilfitri season.
On the breaking of fast function, Nur Jazlan said it was part of the company's corporate social responsibility and organised each year to bring cheer to the less fortunate.
At the function, 66 orphans from Pusat Jagaan Nur Hikmah, Kuala Lumpur and 20 senior citizens from the Seri Tanjung Old Folk's Home in Kuang received 'duit raya', Raya necessities and souvenirs.

In progress: Work to upgrade Puduraya Terminal being carried out.
The government has allowed for renovation and upgrading work on the Puduraya bus terminal to continue until the end of the year, said UDA Holdings Berhad.
This means the work need not be completed before Hari Raya Aidilfitri and all express buses willstill operate from Bukit Jalil.
Its chairman, Datuk Nur Jazlan Tan Sri Mohamed, said the Puduraya terminal would resume operations in January after all upgrading work had been completed.
“Our company was initially given until the end of the year to carry out the renovation on the terminal at a cost of RM52mil,” said Nur Jazlan in a press statement.
“However, UDA Holdings was asked by the government to complete the upgrading work before Hari Raya and UDA is doing what it can to meet the request.
“However, we received a letter from the government recently giving us time to complete the work by the end of the year,” he said.
Upgrading work on the 30-year-old terminal started in June 2009 following the Prime Minister’s visit in April last year.

rizalhakim December 27th, 2010, 05:58 AM Puduraya facelift delayed
JOHOR BARU: The rainy season has caused a delay in the completion of the upgrading works of the Puduraya bus terminal.
UDA Holdings Bhd chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said he expected the construction of the terminal’s exterior building to be completed by next month.
About 95% of the renovation work had been completed so far, he added.
“Most of the renovation work has been completed except for the exterior.
“The construction on the front entrance and other parts of the building was delayed due to the bad weather,” he said.
“Initially, the renovation of the terminal was scheduled to be completed by Dec 31, but this delay will push the deadline further,” he added
However, Nur Jazlan said UDA had warned the contractors to complete the renovation work within the allocated time or face a fine for late completion.
“They had promised us that the renovation would be completed by the year’s end. We will not hesitate to impose a fine for late completion should the contractors delay the work further,” he told a press conference here on Saturday.
Nur Jazlan hoped that the contractors would follow the schedule and avoid a financial penalty.
UDA was tasked with the RM52mil upgrading works of the terminal. The Puduraya terminal resumes operations next month.

Almost done: The Puduraya bus terminal, which will reopen on March 1, is going through some final upgrading works at present.
KUALA LUMPUR: The new Integrated Transport Terminal-Bandar Tasik Selatan (ITT-BTS) as well as the Puduraya Bus Terminal would be fully operational in March, said Land Public Transport Commission Chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar.
“Both terminals will ensure the smoothness of travel for all bus passengers and convenience for the bus operators as well.
“The ITT-BTS will cater to southbound express buses while northbound express buses will use Puduraya.
“The Puduraya terminal will also cater to intracity buses,” he said.
He added that the introduction of both terminals did not trigger any objection from the bus operators.
“We expect both terminals to offer the best connectivity for the passengers,” he said.
South-bound commuters from Kuala Lumpur have already begun to enjoy the state-of-the-art ITT-BTS which was opened to the public on Jan 1.
Maju Terminal Management and Services (TMAS), the newly-appointed operator for the ITT-BTS, said the terminal, which is situated far from crowded city centre, would be well received by the public.
The terminal provides commuters ease of connectivity to the existing Bandar Tasik Selatan rail connections where the Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) Komuter, Express Rail Link (ERL) Transit and Rapid KL Light Rail Transit (LRT) are in operation.
Covering a development area of approximately 49 acres, the terminal complex has six floors, 55 bus platforms, 150 taxi bays, 1,000 parking bays and 1,800 seats for the public within the fully air-conditioned waiting halls.
The ITT-BTS is expected to decongest about 500 to 600 buses from the city centre.
“Adhering to the ‘green’ effort by the world community, the ITT-BTS is also surrounded by over 10,000 species of flora and has Central Vacuum System that ensures cleanliness and hygiene of the terminal,” said TMAS in a statement here.
Meanwhile, the Puduraya bus station will open its doors on March 1, bringing relief to regular stage bus passengers who prefer the location.
The station was closed in April 2010 for upgrading works involving a cost of RM52mil.
The task was to have been completed by the end of last year but the project was delayed due to additional work on the base of the building.
The terminal is set to be relaunched with a host of facilities to improve the level of transportation services.
The upgrade comes with some main highlights that will undoubtedly ease problems for travellers.
There are two escalators heading to the basement where buses are parked and one travellator from a new main entrance to the ground floor.
Heat from the bus engines and smoke will no longer affect the passengers at the ground floor with the new air-conditioned waiting area.
“There are also two passenger lifts from the main entrance and four escalators to the second floor,” said Uda Holdings Bhd senior general manager (corporate services division) Abd Rashid Atan.
Other new features include ticket counters on the first floor, a surau on the second floor and a food court on the fourth floor.
“To date, close to 95% of upgrading works have been completed,” he said.
All the 198 previous tenants including bus operators, food outlets, retail outlets, convenient stores and baggage storage will return to Puduraya. According to sources, there will be 51 ticket counters for 72 bus companies.

KUALA LUMPUR: The scheduled re-opening of the Puduraya bus terminal on March 1 has to be postponed to April 16 as upgrading works at the premises have yet to be completed.
As such, the temporary bus terminal at Bukit Jalil will continue to be operational for the time being, Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said Friday.
He said the decision was made following a discussion with UDA Holdings Berhad, which is the developer of the Puduraya Terminal, and the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD).
"Facilities at this terminal have to be further improved. I am not satisfied because the ceiling at some places is very low, while the escalator, lift and others have yet to be tested and commissioned," he told reporters after visiting the Puduraya Terminal here.
He was accompanied by the ministry's Deputy Secretary-General (Planning and Development) Datuk Bakaruddin Othman, its Deputy Secretary-General (Urban Wellbeing and Management) Datuk Adnan Md Ikhsan and Uda Holdings Berhad managing director Datuk Jaafar Abu Hassan.
Upgrading works at the Puduraya Terminal began in June 2009 at a cost of RM52mil.
Meanwhile, Jaafar said former traders at Puduraya who had moved to Bukit Jalil, would be given priority in the allotment of business stalls at the refurbished Puduraya Terminal.
"For those who did not move to Bukit Jalil, we will compensate them for their losses by exempting them from paying rental between six and seven months," he said.
On the Integrated Transportation Terminal-Bandar Tasik Selatan (TBS-BTS), which will be opened on March 1, Jaafar said Uda Holdings would cooperate with the Road Transport Department and SPAD to overcome problems of ticket touts. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: A surau at the Puduraya Bus Terminal, which will be opened soon, has been given the approval to conduct the Friday prayer.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said the mufti of the Federal Territories had given the approval at a meeting this morning after considering the public interest.
He said UDA Holdings, which manages the terminal, had applied for the Friday prayer to be conducted at the surau following requests from the public.
“Applications from other quarters will be considered based on specific criteria,” he told reporters after handing over appointment letters to 13 members of the Federal Territories Islamic Law Consultative Committee, including three women for the 2010-2013 term. — Bernama

allurban March 14th, 2011, 07:00 AM so u mean SJ Bus, Metrobus will keep roaming around old town part until another ITT is fully constructed? :sleepy:it depends on the government's strength of will.
The opening of Gombak is significant because it frees up 2 bus terminals on the edge of the city which can be re-used as holding areas for stage buses.
Once Gombak is opened the gov't can try to shift the stage bus operators to use the Pekeliling bus hub at Titiwangsa LRT station (for northbound stage buses) and the Hentian Putra near PWTC (for westbound stage buses) - especially for north and westbound buses.
In fact, they could even be banned from coming into the city and an upgraded (and why not free?) RapidKL City Shuttle bus service could be used to move commuters into and around the city proper.
If the government is not strong-willed enough they can wait until Sg. Buloh (northbound buses) is opened - then they can also use Hentian Duta as a carpark.
No matter what, they have to find a way to ensure that the buses can move freely around the city - otherwise the bus operators will stay at Kota Raya forever.

PUTRAJAYA: The upgraded Hentian Puduraya bus terminal is to reopen on April 16 after several postponements, Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said Saturday.
He said some of the facilities could almost match those of the modern Integrated South-Bandar Tasik Selatan Transport Terminal (TBS-BTS).
The reopening of the bus terminal in the city centre was originally scheduled for the end of 2010, but was rescheduled to February, then March and now to April.
Raja Nong Chik said the developer, Uda Holdings Berhad, had informed him that all the preparations were going on smoothly for the terminal to resume operations on schedule.
"On April 16, I will go down there. From the report I have received, everything is going well. I am confident the major works will be completed in the two weeks," he told reporters after flagging off 35 teams participating in a motoring treasure hunt of the Alam Shah School Alumni from here to Port Dickson.
Raja Nong Chik said the upgraded facilities at Hentian Puduraya would provide added comfort for the public using the bus services at that venue which was strategically located to provide integration with other modes of public transportation. - BERNAMA

WAJAH BARU.
goBetong April 3rd, 2011, 07:37 AM What is the purpose of the new upgraded Puduraya now?
Is Puduraya now meant to be solely an intra-city bus terminal, for commuting within the city & to its suburb, strictly no inter-state express? Or some of the express bus companies who previously operated there are to return but on a limited scale (only ticketing, fewer trips with the bulk of their trips from TBS or the Duta Terminal?
I gathered, most of us had lost the plot by now, especially with the so...so... many delay. Would appreciate those who remembered for a recall. Thanks

After all the terminals are opened, Puduraya will become a holding area for stage buses & probably a terminal for short-distance city buses - to Klang, Seremban & Rawang.

Well lit: Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Ministry deputy secretary-
general Datuk Adnan Ikshan (left) and Jaafar taking the walkalator at the
main entrance area.
THE 35-year-old Puduraya bus terminal will finally open for operations tomorrow after undergoing massive renovations costing RM52.7mil. The opening was delayed several times due to additional work on the base of the building.
UDA Holdings Berhad managing director Datuk Jaafar Abu Hassan said the terminal is 98% ready with the exception of certain areas. He said both north-bound and intra-city buses will begin operations tomorrow.
“Bus companies and retail outlets are in the process of collecting their keys and moving from the temporary terminal at Bukit Jalil,’’ he said.
The new Puduraya terminal has three new waiting areas, one on the Mezzanine floor and two more on the first floor. There are two units of walkalators and disabled-friendly facilities.
There are 50 ticketing counters on the first floor. “We have appointed a company to develop an e-ticketing system, and they will work with the bus companies to streamline the system proper,’’ said Jaafar. He added that the e-ticketing system would incorporate the system the bus companies were currently using and that he hoped to resolve the e-ticketing problem as soon as possible.

Spic and span: The new food court.
“Once e-ticketing is enforced, we can resolve the tout problem as people can now buy tickets online and via the e-kiosk. Buses will now have to park at the depot at Jalan Galloway and they will be given a 20-minute waiting time before they can come into Puduraya to pick up passengers,’’ Jaafar said.
“They (buses) will no longer be allowed to park outside the terminal, and situations of them queuing up outside the terminal with their engines running and causing congestion will no longer happen,’’ he said.
He added contractors will be on standby on Saturday to ensure that everything goes according to plan.
Land Public Transport Commis-sions (LPTC) head of State Operations and Terminal Licensing Mohd Fuad Ahmad said there would be extra enforcement by the authorities tomorrow. “We will not tolerate touting and anyone found guilty of touting can be charged in court and fined up to RM50,000 or face a maximum jail term of two years,’’ said Mohd Fuad.

Cooler environment: Puduraya now has three posh waiting areas.
“We will go all out to catch them (touts) as our enforcement personnel will be placed in strategic places to monitor their activities,’’ Mohd Fuad said.
On the upgrading of Puduraya Hotel, which has been renamed Angkasa Express, work is expected to complete by June.
The terminal was closed in April 2010 for upgrading works and was supposed to be re-opened in September last year.

I am less than 6 ft but still can touch the ceiling. They actually put 2.0 m signs to warn passengers like the signs you see on overhead bridges. When I asked the UDA people about this, they asked me back: you cannot pass through is it? You can fill up a aduan form. They had the audacity to tell me that for tall people they can use the stairs or lift.
You guys so go check it out.

Recall the picture above. Like you referred earlier of the low ceiling, this hawker place was which the hall leading to upstair waiting room is located. Exactly 2 yrs ago, Raja Nong Chik sitting in front of Najib didn't realize how low the ceiling was at the hawker center..and they were smiling happily like everything ll be fine later. See those a/c ducting running above Warong Mohd Isa that impede higher ceiling? Can we blame him for not spotting earlier as only now he was complaining? to be fair, none is to be blamed here. the building is too old for major refurbishment. there are structural limitation on the beams to be haunched or drilled to allow pipes and a/c ducting to go thru. hence, most of these pipeline services have to run below the beams. besides allowance for a/c ducting, water and fire sprinklers systems which run on gradient have to be considered too for lower ceiling height.

If there is no way to raise the ceiling height, what about doing with an exposed ceiling with the ac ducts like an industrial look and painted black with warehouse style lighting. I think that is better than walking in the hall with your head almost scraping the ceiling.
Sheik April 18th, 2011, 04:06 PM Puduraya reopens its doors to the public despite unfinished work
By PRIYA MENON
priya@thestar.com.my
THE much anticipated opening of Puduraya last Saturday was marred by minor glitches that left passengers puzzled and bus operators confused.
The ticketing counters which were on the ground floor before have been relocated to the more spacious first floor but many were astounded to find the escalators faulty.
There were no lifts to help senior citizens or the blind who found it difficult to climb the escalators.
Student Wong Lieuh Min, 18, from Kuantan said the change was good but the lack of facilities needed to be addressed soon.
“We now need to go upstairs to buy tickets using the stairs or climb the faulty escalators,” she said.
Wong said there were not many monitors displaying bus schedules and more should be placed at strategic locations.
Showing the way: Police officers at the Puduraya terminal helping passengers on the first day of operations.
Wan Zawawi Wan Mohamud, 30, who was heading home to Kuantan, said the terminal lacked services for the disabled.
“There are no ATM machines. I suggest they have bus departure announcements for people who cannot see or read,” he said.
He added that it would take time for the blind to get used to the place.
However, some passengers applauded the government’s move to upgrade the 35-year-old terminal.
Australian tourists David Turner and his wife Julie were happy with the facilities.
Turner, 74, who walks with the aid of a cane, said he did not mind walking up the escalator.
“The place is beautiful but they need time to get things straightened out. I was here 60 years ago when this place was run down. The transformation is nice,” he said.
The Turners were buying tickets for trips to Cameron Highlands and Malacca during their 10-day stay in the country.
Another blind passenger, M. Mariammah, 40, said the place was cleaner and the air cooler. Mariammah, who hails from Shah Alam, said the place deserved a chance to prove its worth over the next few months.
She, however, was puzzled that the food courts were not ready yet.
The food court on Level Four was deserted save a few traders who were busy moving their appliances into their stalls. One stall owner, who declined to be named, said their contract was started from May 1 but they had been given the option to begin trading earlier.
“How do we trade when the gas tanks are not in place? The lifts are not working so we cannot bring in our refrigerators and other equipment,” she said.
The traders also complained that the stall rental had been increased to RM2,900 a month, including RM1,800 for service charge. The traders have no inclination on the specifications of the exorbitant service fee.
“They should have started operations after everything is in place so problems like these do not occur,” a trader said.
Several bus drivers and operators were also confused about the new depot system that requires buses to be parked at the bus hub in Jalan Hang Tuah before clearance is given for them to enter the bus terminal.
One driver, who wished to known as Muhamad, said it was time-consuming for them to make two trips to the depot and the terminal.
“We have to report at the bus hub before clearance is given for us to drop off passengers at Puduraya then go back to the hub and wait for the time to pick up the other passengers at Puduraya again,” he said.
The drivers are afraid they would not be able to rest due to the traffic congestion that would limit their time at the hub.
A supervisor with a local bus company, Hafiz Hassan, said he was unaware of the new system and was told to continue parking the buses outside the terminal.
“When we went there this morning, we were chased off by the security guards,” he said.
UDA Holdings Berhad managing director Datuk Jaafar Abu Hassan said about 40 officers were placed at the terminal to help passengers. Complaint forms were handed out to those with grouses so their suggestions can be taken into account.
“We are looking into every suggestion and if it is valid we will apply it here. There are chargemen and contractors on standby to fix any problem. This is the first day of operations so will solve the problems as it comes,” he added.
There are 276 CCTV cameras and 48 security officers will be placed during the day and another 30 will be on duty at night.
When asked about the problems with the bus operators, he said most were complying with the new regulations.

Puduraya bus terminal is clean, comfortable and fully air-conditioned.
KUALA LUMPUR: The newly renovated Puduraya bus terminal continues to draw praises from both passengers and operators.
After minor hiccups on its opening day last Saturday, operations seem to be flowing smoothly and many are satisfied with the upgraded facilities.
Passenger Sakuntala Khairati, 54, from Penang, who had used the old terminal for years, said the new terminal is more systematic.
"This place has improved a lot. It used to have many ticket touts but I don't see them now," she said.
A ticket seller manning the Transtar Express booth said e-ticket sales have been good since the terminal opened.
"I'm glad the new Puduraya has kept the touts away. The ticket booths are running smoothly now," he said.
Nasyazwan Masngut, 18, who was waiting to board his bus to Sabak Bernam, said the place now looks high class compared with the old dodgy-looking terminal.
"The old Puduraya was congested and hot. I am pleased the place is fully air-conditioned," he said.
One ticket booth operator hoped the ticket counters would be allowed to have bigger signboards over their counters so that the customers can easily spot them.
Lok Tik Yew, 74, who came from Kedah, was happy to find the terminal clean and comfortable.
Asmah Hassan, 51, also expressed delight to see the changes.
"The security is also better. I see many CCTVs (closed circuit television cameras) around the premises," she said.
The terminal, developed by UDA Holdings Bhd, has new shop lots waiting for tenants.
UDA Holdings Bhd corporate service division head Abd Rashid Atan said there will be more facilities such as e-ticketing, surau, and facilities for the disabled.
"We are looking forward to implementing the e-ticketing system soon. It will be convenient for our customers as they don't have to come twice -- once to purchase tickets and the second time to board the bus," he said. He said the e-ticketing system will shorten the queue at the ticket booths.
"Although we don't see ticket touts, we are still keep a look out for them as we don't want them to surface in the coming weeks," said Rashid.
Although the general response from the public on the newly revamped terminal was good, a downpour last Saturday put a damper on it when the parking bays on the third floor were flooded.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Puduraya terminal resumed operations on April 16 after undergoing extensive renovations that took almost a year.
UDA Holdings Bhd managing director Datuk Jaafar Abu Hassan said all inter-city buses and express buses that were northbound would resume their services at Puduraya.
He added that the keys to the ticket counters have already been given to the respective bus companies prior to the opening.
Henceforth, the temporary terminal at Bukit Jalil would be closed to facilitate the transferring of bus services back to the Puduraya terminal.
Jaafar said the renovations would provide a more comfortable environment to the public with new facilities installed. Among them, a larger and more comfortable waiting area, escalators, new lifts and washrooms while also featuring disabled-friendly facilities.
Jaafar added that operations at the ticket counters located on the first floor would be more systematic.
He also said the food court and praying area on the fourth floor has been renovated to accommodate up to 400 people.
The upgraded facilities in Pudura-ya, Jaafar said, were comparable to the newly-opened Integrated Transport Terminal at Bandar Tasik Selatan.

hazlan May 9th, 2011, 07:04 AM i ve seen TBS-BTS and puduraya, all i can feel right now, we are all the way to becoming a developed nation...
i ve been to TBS, i am so proud of it... it's nice...just that, the "canteen table and chair" on the upper floor looks so cheap...and why they are so many of this "canteen table and chair"? that area is not a foodcourt, but so many 'canteen table/chair" eberywhere....the restaurants there already have its own table/chair.........instead they shoud have put more waiting chair...not ugly "canteen table/chair"

We all know it's not the rain, it has more to do with NEP: getting unqualified contractors to do the job....cost over-run is not uncommon, cuz we need more funds to fix something when things are not built right in the first place.

The obvious question - why remove the sprinkler head during the operational day without making it clear that there was a test going on.

Big thumbs-up for new Puduraya terminal
Wednesday June 1, 2011
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2011/6/1/nation/8774392&sec=nation
THE Puduraya terminal has been given a big thumbs-up after resuming operations on April 16 following extensive renovations worth almost RM50mil.
The Star reader James Gonzales in a letter to The Star said Puduraya is a fine example of how taxpayers’ money should be spent in a prudent and judicious manner.
“More than 10 years ago, I wrote about the shortcomings and deficiencies at the Puduraya bus terminal. Among my complaints were the traffic snarls, air pollution, lack of security, flooding, ticket touts and unhygienic surroundings,” he said.
“However, I had the opportunity to revisit Puduraya and was happy with the vast improvements that made it presentable and appealing.
“The environment for passengers is now very conducive, with good seating arrangements, and the entire terminal is now fully air-conditioned. There are CCTVs at strategic points, and security as a whole has been beefed up, with the security personnel patrolling the place,” he added.
Muhd Falahin, 17, who sells handphones at the terminal said business was picking up, indicating that the crowd is coming back to the iconic terminal.
“Most of my customers say that Puduraya now is like a new state-of-the-art complex and are truly enjoying the environment here now,” he said when met last week.
Snack shop assistant, 25-year-old Hamimatun Hassan said the terminal was now more comfortable with its air-conditioned waiting area.
“This place used to be hot and reeked of exhaust smoke. Now, even if the weather outside is hot, we are comfortable inside,” she said.
University student Zurin Harun, 20, said the process of purchasing tickets was now easier and orderly, with all ticket counters located on the same level.
“I feel safe here as there are closed-circuit television cameras everywhere and the waiting area is brightly lit,” said nurse, A. Avril, 25.
The 35-year-old terminal also spots a larger and more comfortable waiting area, escalators, new lifts and washrooms while also featuring disabled-friendly faci-lities.
Another development concerning the terminal is also the upgrading of Puduraya Hotel, renamed as Angkasa Express, which is expected to be completed by June.
Vince June 1st, 2011, 10:12 PM ^^ Can you swear what you said is correct ?
I can't swear, but these things happen too many times. Shoddy work affected the new KL courthouse, buildings in Putrajaya, etc. A new stadium in Trengannu even collapsed. Still need me to swear?
Vince June 1st, 2011, 10:14 PM well in this case you are probably right - the claim is that it was not a roof or ceiling leak, but rather a sprinkler head that started gushing water while being tested.

the explanation by the managemnt was ridiculous n just plain stupid. before a building is handed over or becomes operational, all systems in place will be tested n thats mean any failure must be fixed before handing over.
this case is probably a classic case of negligence in the part of the maintenance team. it could be the sprinkler system were found damaged and the team fixed it later but someone could had forget to install the sprinkler head back or loosely installed. once the system is activated back, water pressure ll be applied and therefore water gushing out freely.

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has opened the upgraded 35-year-old Puduraya bus terminal and renamed it Pudu Sentral.
He said the change in the name of the terminal, which began operations in 1976, was in keeping with its modern and new look, on par with an airport.
Najib said the name was suggested by one of his Twitter fans who proposed the name after he (Najib) had tweeted earlier today that he would be visiting the terminal.
