lancetop December 4th, 2005, 11:06 PM I lived in Jacksonville from 1979-1995, and witnessed first hand the trifling and backward attitude toward the downtown area.
The city government during that time did an EXCELLENT job at developing downtown, striving to bring in new businesses, setting the table for the city to become a world class place.
It was the PEOPLE in Jacksonville that were so backward. "downtown is too scary..." When this tower was built (the original name: Barnett Bank Corp. Headquarters) the city did everything in it's power to revitalize downtown. People just weren't interested in leaving their suburban neighborhoods to drive into a "scary" dowtown to have dinner or see a movie etc.
When this tower was announced and construction started, a spirit of excitement began to be felt :laugh: But the momentum went no where, and no new major project has been built since BofA Tower, Jacksonville was completed. Jacksonville is a city that is slumbering in a fog of religious fanaticism, crime, and an apathetic majority who don't vote....
But getting back to this building, I always thought it was a nice design....even though it's rather simple, with very little architectural interest :sleepy:
But it's setting overlooking the St.John's River, the Riverwalk and the splendid Main Street Bridge is commanding. It sits very close to Jacksonville's former height-champ, the Independent Life Tower built in 1973 (now known as Modis Tower) Modis Tower is a behemouth but the color of glass makes it sparkle on the St.John's river. The two towers together gives the limited skyline a momentary thrill. The colors of the two towers work well together.
I rate the former Barnett Bank Corp. Headquarters in Jacksonville a 7.5:)

I think BofA does a good job with their skyscrapers (usually). This one is nice, but it isn't fantastic. Still, it isn't a boring box.
