dhandapanik July 4th, 2011, 07:11 AM 647 Coimbatore - Ramanathapuram Dhandapani sir any bus is operational in this route.
No. This was extended to Rameshwaram long time back. It was running via Pollachi. I'm not seeing this CBE-Rameshwaram bus also now.
Arul Murugan July 4th, 2011, 07:29 AM Awesome!
True tressure.. thanks reno.
I wonder why then thiruvallur corporation was operating a/c sleeper only to Erode when other potential route like Madras-Madurai, Madras-Trichy or Madras-Coimbatore are left out!
Madurai and CBE had sleeper class service, but Trichy doesn't have.
Madras-Coimbatore and Madras-Salem are served by different routes viz via T.malai, Kanchi, Gingee etc., Quite interesting!
Madras-Kolattur is another interesting service which is no more now!
Golden period of SETC!
dr_thapalathy July 4th, 2011, 07:44 AM PUDUCHERRY: A hike in the price of diesel has resulted in the common man feeling the pinch again. For, who else but the latter can shoulder this burden. And keeping in line with this logic, private bus operators in the Union Territory have taken it upon themselves to enhance the bus fare. Government buses, however, continue to charge the same.
Private operators have increased the fare by a rupee for all categories of vehicles. A minimum fare of Rs 4 is being charged for buses operating within the town. The fare to Villupuram and Tindivanam has gone up from Rs 12 to Rs 13, while in the case of Cuddalore it has gone up from Rs 7 to Rs 8, said a member of the Puducherry Private Bus Operators’ Association.
Though the fare for government buses still remains unchanged, the hike by private bus operators will affect the general public as 90 per cent of the town and intercity buses are operated by private bus owners. There are 172 intercity buses, 282 interstate and 75 town buses in all.
However, the move to hike the fare is only being dictated by good business sense, given that their competitors (private bus operators in Tamil Nadu who also ply on the same routes) have hiked rates in the last two days.
In Puducherry, the bus fare was last revised in 2008 and since then, the rates of tires as well as diesel have gone up. The cost of a single tyre and tube now costs Rs 30,000, while diesel has shot up to Rs 42.67 per litre. On an average, town buses consume around 70 litres of diesel per day, while intercity and interstate buses guzzle 120 litres to 150 litres per day, say private bus operators.
Whatever might be the justification, the hike is unauthorised as the latter need to adhere to the fare fixed by the government.
Also, commuters in Tamil Nadu might not care about the higher bus fare as government buses are more in number when compared to private buses. As per rough estimates, private buses are only 4,500 as compared to 18,000 government buses.
It is now for the government to take a decision with regard to the arbitrary hike in bus fare.
KSRaj July 4th, 2011, 07:45 AM For JJTC(Later RGTC), it is TN07. They were registered under Thiruvanmiyur RTO.. Someone correct me if i'm wrong about the RTO name.
You are right. JJTC HQ was shifted from Pallavan Salai to its own office at Kamarajar Salai in mid-1990s. So, it came under Thiruvanmiyur RTO - Mandaveli Unit (now changed to TN-06). After TN-01 N-906x, they started numbering from 9101 for the sake of continuity.
Cheers,
Raj

If I remember right, Chennai Erode Chennai Sleeper service was introduced as a testing model. There were popular confusion how a sleeper in a bus will work for a smooth night ride (Pl remember we had many pot holed roads those days).
The service was discontinued later, I think due to poor patronage. (It was also reintroduced). Even the ROI on such trips were very low and it was not financially feasible for TTC at such low rates to continue.

i feel TN-74 N-1310 is comfortable and spacious than the other two region built buses....

TN74 N-1310 looks okay. I was referring to TN74-N-1463 & TN72-N-1581 and also the positioning of back route board.
Seats of Salem region buses are a bit cramped but that of Tirunelveli region is good, I think.
Personally for me, old Villupuram region buses are the worst in seating arrangement because of very little leg space & slanted seats. But they do provide good back support.

Yes nearly 10 seats alloted to Aruppukottai and also they will carry some parcels from Arupukottai, surely it will take 30 minutes to cross the town.

I travelled in KPN Bangalore - Tenkasi last week. As usual they proved time and again of the casual approach they have towards passengers. On the parcel carrying aspect, they stopped at Hosur, K'giri, Salem to pick parcels (10-15 mins each waiting time) and 20 mins at Kovilpatti to drop parcels and 30 mins halt at Nellai again to drop parcels. I had a feeling that passengers were travelling with parcels rather than parcels travelling with people.:bash:

One more online tool that i find good is www.picnik.com from Google. It helps in you putting watermarks on your images in Flickr or Picasa itself straightaway....nice one. Buy you need to do it one by one.

This is how they earn profits. If they simply carry passengers and no parcels, they would never have broken even.

That is where players like ABT differ who charge a premium and dont do the parcel van business. Are there any other Omni bus operators who strictly dont take any parcel along ...?

Subbu,
SRS travels also does the same. Now I am regular traveller of SRS sleeper coach. They used to stop at Hosur,Karur and Madurai for atleast 20 mins.
Recently they added 1 new sleeper service between Kanyakumari - BLR.
Unfortunately 3 weeks back I came by semi sleeper KPN travels, It started by 9.15 PM at Madurai and reached Silk board by 4.15 AM. Driver was in full speed. To be precautious I opened the window so that if any accident happens I can find way to escape.

I can tell you one more thing the SRS driver did when i travelled by it in the Blr - Mdu route. The bus entered Karur to drop some passengers(roughly 4AM). A lady who was waiting for a bus to go to Mdu asked if there are any seats in the bus, driver obliged to let her sit in the cabin and make some quick bucks. She then said that she has to often travel early morning in Karur -Mdu sector and getting bus is a difficult affair and the driver gave his number saying that she can call on days she is coming so that he will come inside Karur to pick her up.:bash::nuts:

I was a regular traveller in sleeper coach Madurai Radha travels when i was working in Chennai, I prefer Pandiyan Exp else I use Madurai Radha travels when there is sudden trip to Madurai(instead of Southern railway special trains). Their service was so good and they cover 8 hours between Egmore - Madurai with 10 mins break at thuvarankuruchi and 10 mins break at vikravandi. Now I dont know about the quality of service.

ARC carries parcels. Earlier I was travelling by 7 PM semi sleeper bus going to Rajapalayam, They have 1 parcel office opposite to Fathima college MDU,They enter around 2.45 AM and reaches Periyar bus stand by 3.13 AM. Once i noted it was unloading parcels in Salem office.

According to their assumption, a normal reader doesn't care about the photo, most newspaper readers are not well acquainted with internet or forum culture. They don't need the source from were the photo came and so forth. They just need the gist of what happened. And as usual Dinamalar. Dinakaran and dinamani they exploit this!
I posted the news item carrying the minibus photo (of dhandapani's) in chennai mTC thread. Many members including Mod kannan and arul murugan commented on that. But we weren't able to recognize the watermark. But only after dhandapani posted it we came to know about that.:)

This is the 3rd time where my pic came in dailies.. Once Subbu pointed it out to me. We even mailed to Dinamalar regarding this, but no replies from them.

Most news items are finalized @midnight @ the last moment depending on space availability. But even under such conditions they can even take some photos well in advance and use them for their future news articles.
Hindu is far better regarding this issue, they take photos afresh for each and every article.
dr_thapalathy July 5th, 2011, 06:17 PM That is where players like ABT differ who charge a premium and dont do the parcel van business. Are there any other Omni bus operators who strictly dont take any parcel along ...?
ABT is having a separate Parcel service van, which reaps them profits. Though, in our views, both of them appear to be different companies (ABT Parcel Service and ABTX Travels) with different management, they are still a single entity, revealing profits to the general public.
nambi83 July 5th, 2011, 06:19 PM Dhandapanik,
Can you tell how to copyright the photo?
I just tried with paint.. but it does not come like what you guys do.
arul,
click the below link it will download irfan view software. one of the best software for watermarking and copyright of the photo.

dr_thapalathy July 5th, 2011, 06:21 PM Its better they run parcel vans and not buses..
Such buses must be deprived of their permits.
I had a bad exp with Lucky travels when i went to kozhikode from madurai. You can see the buses like Lucky, Madurai Radha, Yohalakshmi, Joy, Royal, SRS etc., loading tons of parcels in their buses in Madurai's Complex bus stand.
I also had a similar experience with Universal travels, while coming from tirunelvely to Pondy. Started at 8 PM from TEN, went via Tuticorn, ECR to Karaikal and then to Puduhcherry. In between at all places, even in midnight, he was loading and unloading. So, decided never to travel in Universal or any other unfamours travels. IMO, i give first preference to Govt buses, and ABT Travels in the private buses.
dr_thapalathy July 5th, 2011, 06:27 PM According to their assumption, a normal reader doesn't care about the photo, most newspaper readers are not well acquainted with internet or forum culture.

Not only Hindu, but most of the Engish Dailys are good in this issue, as they have readership across the country. If they don't get a photo, they won't at all publish a photo. Not all articles require photos. Just a proper headlines to capture the attention of the readers.

Nice treasure Renu ^^
BlackPearl July 5th, 2011, 09:14 PM TN 01 N series is a confusion for me.
All I remember is that..
MTC started with 0001 and SETC started with 6001
Was there something for then JJTC ???? - it was starting from 9001 I guess.
Around year 2000 , vaguely remember SETC reaching around 6800-6900 mark..
Now I did see some SETC reaching 9000 series like the one in DolphinsTuti 9207 running between Kanniyakumari and Rameshwaram..
Did they start with AN series ???
For JJTC(Later RGTC), it is TN07. They were registered under Thiruvanmiyur RTO.. Someone correct me if i'm wrong about the RTO name.
This is an old JJTC and is still under operation..
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-GzoQUVKVy-o/TfeKfwwPIUI/AAAAAAAAA6E/XxtfcFw5Lv8/s640/DSC05775.jpg
Cheers,
Raj
So for JJTC (RGTC), the series is TN 01 - N - 9000 -9060 and then followed by TN 07-N-91XX
Thanks Raj for your in depth knowledge of the subject...

Reno - Thanks a lot for sharing these information. I wish we get back the old TTC into operation.
Salem was very well connected to all parts of TN (like Sankaran Kovil, Sencottah, Nagapattinam etc) then. Many of those services do not exist now.

Wow, really good one. Unable to believe if erstwhile TTC was operating this much routes.
Few routes are taken over by TNSTC (i am able to see Cuddalore - Madurai and Cuddalore - Coimbatore) and many services are stopped (most important ones being Madras - Mysore and Madras - Kollur).
It is really a big damage that today's SETC has done for the reputation that TTC earned.
rsubbu.mdu July 6th, 2011, 04:40 AM ABT is having a separate Parcel service van, which reaps them profits. Though, in our views, both of them appear to be different companies (ABT Parcel Service and ABTX Travels) with different management, they are still a single entity, revealing profits to the general public.
Hi Anand,
People are very much aware that ABTxTravels and ABT Parcel service come under the same umbrella.
If we go by your logic of ABT owning a parcel service, in that case KPN also has a dedicated KPN Speed Parcel Service Ltd. HQ'ed at Kalasipalayam. Then in that case KPN should also not carry parcels in their buses....

Both ABT and ARC has a separate parcel service division. Travels and parcel service come under same management. i havent seen these buses loading huge parcels in their buses.
KPN, Rathimeena and Madurai radha(Doubt) also has some speed parcel service vans.

Some more to add to this:
Puducherry - Marthandam
Puducherry - Tirunelvely
Puducherry - Nagercoil
services by SETC stopped and the third one is being operated by PRTC.
I think that this must be a kind of lobby from Pondy Govt.
Also, Puducherry - Dindugal is covered by PRTC's Puducherry - Kumuli route.
Also, earlier SETC was operating 5 buses in Puducherry - Coimbatore section.
Slowly, this route is leased out to private operators as the no of services came down to 3, 2 via Neyveli and 1 via Villupuram. Also, no signs of PRTC operating buses in this high cash rich route.

Hello Dhandapani,
I am out of touch with the Mdu - Chennai sector for last two years, when did Mdu division start operating 3*2 full fledged Mdu - Chennai bus service. I have only seen Chennai - Peraiyur via Mdu 3*2 run by Mdu divn.

The worst buses you can see in TN are from the erstwhile "Pattukottai alagiri", and still Villupuram division is maintaining that trend. Worst maintance, poor body building. I have got myself scratched many times while climbing and getting down from these buses and have tore some nice shirts. You should be brave enough to ride in these buses. If there is a competition for worst buses Vellore will win that convincingly. I have seen once, when the driver applied sudden brake the seat suddenly got off and moved in the front. The forum members shoud be really proud of Vellore district people who are boldly riding in these buses by risking their lives. When buses from Dharmapuri (Annai Sathya) comes next to these buses, these look worst than a rabbies attacked dog.
You photos are really good. Keep it coming.

TNSTC VPM (Periar) operates 3*2 seater to Madurai only from Cuddalore, Villupuram, Neyveli, Chidambaram and other regions under it's control, and not from Chennai. But, it used to operate a UD in that route, which was dropped. It operates only in Tiruchi - Chennai. Also, there are no direct buses from TNSTC VPM in Chennai - Bangalore.
They do so, just for having higher occupancy ratio and rush clearance. Still they doing it in service motive and not profit motive. The Cuddalore - Madurai bus will be full in Cuddalore itself and it gets into standing when it reaches the GST Road, crossing other towns inbetween.

We have one usilampatti-Chennai 3X2 seater. Also Natham-Chennai bus is being operated as Madurai-Chennai in week days. Madurai region also operates couple of 3X2 seaters. 1497 and 1498 replaced few 3X2 seaters recently. Also KKDI region operates one 3X2 seater in Madurai-Chennai route.

mduvignesh July 7th, 2011, 11:19 AM AVOID KPN TRAVELS & SAVE URSELF
Dear Folks,
This is my personal experience travelling with KPN Travels and to say the experience was a pathetic one would be a pretty much understatement..
I personally had couple of bitter experiences with KPN travels prior to this but nothing came close to this incident and this left me wondering why did we decided to travel in it the first place...
Last Saturday we (me and two of my friends) were returning from Nagercoil (near Kanyakumari) after attending our friend's marriage..
We started off from Nagercoil by 6.45 PM in an AC Volvo bus of KPN travels, which we had booked...
Everything went fine for a while. The bus was going at a decent speed and we were thinking we would be in Bangalore by 6 AM on Sunday...
Then all of a sudden, the bus stopped at Tirunelveli at 8.15 PM near the KPN office. We thought that they were loading some parcels into the bus.. The bus continue to be waiting till 8.45 PM.. The driver or other staff didn’t tell anything..
Then when we enquired what was happening, the bus driver tells that the AC is not working, because some belt has got cut...
And the driver continues to add, If we continue to travel without AC (which is very much impossible because of the moulded glass windows), the temperature inside the bus might increase and the engine might catch fire.. So they were trying to sort out the issue with couple of mechanics.. These mechanics tried their hands till 9.30 PM and they couldn’t do much about it.
In the mean time many passengers updated the situation to the KPN head office in Salem. They were saying that the issue will be sorted out soon and the bus will start the journey again. They were not thinking of providing any kind of alternate arrangement. Even when some of the passengers asked about it, they were saying that wouldn’t be needed and the issues would be sorted out.
But, until 10 PM the driver and the other KPN staff didn’t tell anything or didn’t even bother to make some arrangements for the passengers for dinner. When some of the passengers shouted at around 10PM, they suddenly realized that the entire bus is hungry..
And they said they will send some mini bus to take the people to a nearby hotel in Tirunelveli town. They did that and after dinner took the passengers back to the KPN office in Tirunelveli by around 11 PM, where the manager of the Tirunelveli office was there.
Seeing the Manager of the Tirunelveli office, the passengers approached him for any updates. He was more interested in clearing of the waiting passengers of other buses. He said they are looking for an alternative may be a Non AC bus or something of that sort and asked the passengers of the bus to travel till Salem and said from Salem some Volvo might be there to drop us till Bangalore. Hearing this, some of the passengers started arguing that KPN refund the money back and they would find their own way, The so called Manager started shouting at the passengers like, as if he was doing some service free of cost.
The manager was saying the refund and all is not at all possible and if at all anybody wanted any refund, then they have to check with the office they booked the ticket. During the whole of the incident, passengers called the Salem head office regularly for any help, but it was of no use. They said something would be done. But no sort of help was in sight...
After all that, the manager kept on holding the passengers without any updates till 12 midnight, when most of the passengers lost their cool and started arguing severely. When some of the passengers told they would call the police, the manager started abusing those passengers with bad words and things were going horrible.
After all these, finally at around 12.30 AM, the manager came and said, he could get only one 17 seater Van for half of the waiting passengers and he would send rest of the waiting passengers in a regular KPN bus on standing to Kovilpatti (a town 50 KMs from Tirunelveli on the way to Madurai) where he said, a 25 seater van is waiting to take all of the people to Salem.
We, the passengers at 12.30 AM had no option other than to take that. Finally the van from Tirunelveli started at 12.45 AM and the other set of people were boarded in a KPN bus bound to Bangalore to be dropped at Kovilpatti and fortunately a van was waiting there for them.
Both the vans started from Kovilpatti at around 1.45 AM and reached Salem at around 6.45 AM on Sunday. We waited for a while and subsequently the Volvo bus to drop us to Bangalore came at around 7.15 AM. We all boarded that bus and it started at around 7.45 AM and we finally reached Bangalore at around 12 noon on Sunday. While getting down the driver of the bus who dropped us at Bangalore told, he came to Salem from Chennai at around 7 AM on Sunday and immediately asked to ferry us to Bangalore. This again took us for a rude shock and all that we could do was thank god for getting us to Bangalore safe and thank our good luck as well.
It was such a pathetic experience, I didn’t expect this to happen even in wildest of my dreams.
I found it very hard to digest the way KPN travels and its franchisee and staff treat customers. We don’t expect a royal treatment but expected a fair concern for the customer at the time of issues like these. But we didn’t even get that.
I have decided from now on, I will never ever travel in KPN Travels to anywhere. Even if I don’t have any booked ticket in train or any other travels, I have decided to chose to go by open ticket in government buses. Atleast in government buses, they refund the fare if the bus breaks down :).
I would request you all to think many times before travelling in KPN travels that too with your family. Only if we start thinking boycotting people like this and they will start feel the pinch the lost business and only then they will really think to care for these things.
NB: In midst of this, we were witnessing another horrible incident right at the Tirunelveli office. Two passengers have booked tickets from Tirunelveli to Bangalore on internet and when they went to board the bus they were in for rude shock, as their seats were already occupied by two other people who claimed to be coming from Trivandrum. The persons sitting in the seats were saying the booking clerk at the Trivandrum office only gave them the seats and they refused to give up the seats. Suddenly one person in Tirunelveli KPN office looking like a goon went into the bus and forcefully pulled the persons sitting in the seats and gave those seats to the ones waiting at the Tirunelveli office. We didn’t know what happened to those two people. This was also such a horrible incident to witness. They had paid close to 1100 rupees each for the ticket. It simply goes on to show the greediness of the KPN booking office. Even the internet tickets are not safe with KPN travels...
Thanks for your patient reading,
Karthick

I hate KPN for their rash driving, have seen many accidents, squeezing the driver to drive without proper rest. I love travelling by SETC (controlled speed) and ABT
rsubbu.mdu July 7th, 2011, 01:25 PM No wonder the incident happened in KPN, mouthshut.com is full of abuses from passengers of KPN.
VRL and SRS (is already IN) are waiting in wings to storm the TN market and VRL has deep pockets to take on the might of KPN in every possible service.

Hi vignesh,
Very sad to hear this, they have acted like goons.
What will happen if demand surpasses the supply? things like this will happen. In the previous pages we had a discussion regarding parcel service. Here is a fact regarding that, i want to send a bike to my cousin in bangalore (this was 14 months back), there is no regular train from nellai-Bangalore, there is only a weekly train to bangalore from NGL on saturdays. You have to wait at least 2 weeks for your bike to be transported to Bangalore from nellai. The only other option is to send it thro KPN (and usually bikes are loaded at the top of the bus), they demanded 1500 Rs. Earlier i contacted the chennai office and they said it is 850 Rs. So i argued with the guy in the bye pass branch for about half an hour regarding this, but he was speaking only about the demand. He sarcastically told me that, next month the demand will be less and so you can come next week if you want to send it for 850Rs. A local DMK councilor, whom i know very well, just arrived at the spot and he asked me whats the problem. I explained him everything and he yelled at the counter guy saying that "850 poduviya mattiya, podalena enga phone pannanumo anga phone pannuvan". The guy at the counter didn't even uttered a word or so, he just billed the amount.
There is no corporate structure or anyhting that sort in south. Instead of calling to salem HQ or police if someone had made a call to local political stalwarts things would have been different. Seems funny but this how thing work out there.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Approximately 9 months back nagercoil-bangalore KPN bus was involved in an accident near panangudi at 7:20 PM. No one was injured, but no alternative arrangements were made till 9:00. Only after media people rushed to the spot, KPN officials made alternative arrangements with TNSTC and in 3*2 moffussil bus they were taken to Salem and from there to Bangalore.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, the SETC bus from Udankudi-Bangalore via nellai which i traveled before 2 years took only 12 hours from nellai- bangalore. But then the NH-7 4 laning was patchy at that time, now surely it will take less than 12 hours and from nagercoil by SETC bus it will surely take less than 13 hours. So what are we going to do by reaching 1 or 1.5 hrs earlier? At the end of the day, if you face hardships like the one quoted above by vignesh,it is better to travel by SETC

Well said..
But, Actually, SETC must learn to reach out to the demand.
I think, the no of new services in the recent years in well below par the demand and they still stick to the timings and routes of 1980s.

Thanks for your patient reading,
Karthick

Sounds really pathetic. Felt sorry for all in general and those two guys in particular:ohno:. Seems like good customer relations is being followed by KPN:bash:. But, the public is also to blame to a certain extent. No one interferes in a situation like this until they themselves face it. Thinking of this country when people used to voice concern and displeasure for fellow human beings quite a few years back. People have become too much decent to interfere, I suppose:)

It lost originality long before. First it was Madurai to reign and now the turn of Tirunelveli:)
TNSTC-Nagercoil used to have slight modifications in its Town bus liveries for its different depots.

kannan infratech July 8th, 2011, 01:03 PM Is there any association for Bus Passengers ? These types of highhandedness can be fought only as a group. Any individual will be intimidated by the politically powerful Omni bus owners.
There is an Air Travelers Association based in Chennai and Mr. Sudhakar Reddy is the President. Though I can not say that even 50% success rate is achieved, at least you have a forum through which you can take up the issue collectively.
I remember that Omni bus passengers are treated like dirt esp during Deepavali, Pongal or other holidays and people are forced to accept due to high demand.
If KPN does this, I can not even imagine how a smaller transport operator will manage.

We dont have any bus passenger associations.
KPN is going bad day by day. Few operators like ABT, ARC are increasing and they are customer friendly too.
dr_thapalathy July 8th, 2011, 02:21 PM Today, when i visited CMBT, i saw a major change that was made.
Platforms 1 and 2 were swapped with platforms 5 and 6.
I think that this move is to decongest the entry and exit of mofussil buses in CMBT. While, it took 10 mins in normal days, it just took a minute for d bus to come out of CMBT today.
But, platforms 3 and 4 were as it is. There are no change in it.

ABT has created all together new segment offering services at a small premium. The following i see as their big pluses:
-- Well mantained fleet
-- Schedule Adherence
-- No parcels carried
-- easy to book online website
-- Well mannered and able drivers on board (they would drop you without murmerring at any request drop points)
-- provide water + fresh blanket + a customer kit with eye cover like flight
-- quick responding personnel at their customer care desk
The 12m Leyland AC segment was strengthened by them and over the years they have been able to corner the uppers crest of bus passengers and especially the crowd which moves around for official tours.

The RTO in kumbakonam has been just opened. Moreover, the 300 mark has been crossed by TN-68-N. It is some where around 380. Most of the TNSTC Kumbakonam Super Delux Buses are TN-68 registered.
After TN-32 follows in the vehicles registered speed after TN-01. Also, TN-45 and TN-49 gives close competition to it.
But, TNSTC Kumbakonam has the highest fleet of vehicles among the different Transport Corporations in TN.

Arul Murugan July 9th, 2011, 09:09 PM Looks to be updated no. of service operated by TNSTC-Salem!
There are 91 services from Bengaluru to Salem daily!! I guess this would be much higher than Salem-Coimbatore or Salem-Trichy or Salem-Madurai including the respective counter parts operation.
I am not sure whether so much direct Salem-Bengaluru service were there before! I guess services like Dharmapuri-Salem, Krishnagiri-Salem etc., are clubbed with Bengaluru service which makes every 15min one bus will depart from Bengaluru to Salem.
Now i understand why private buses rules Salem-Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri-Dharmapuri and Hosur-Krish short distances!!
Most of the Hosur-Salem service got extended to Coimbatore, Trichy and Madurai.

dineshpkm July 10th, 2011, 11:12 AM Looks to be updated no. of service operated by TNSTC-Salem!

These are Weekend Specials to be operated between Trichy-Bangalore. Totally 8 buses are operated including few AC ones. This is halted in Tiruvalluvar Bus Stand (SETC) In Addition to it the regular two buses(1 AC and 1 Non AC) is haulted in SETC depot.
How they are getting this much bus to operate as specials and how they are getting permission to operate these?
rsubbu.mdu July 10th, 2011, 04:03 PM [How they are getting this much bus to operate as specials and how they are getting permission to operate these?
They get speical permit for these buses and many of them are diverted from the Mysore region especially the Meghadoota's.

What you try to convey may be correct. But NTC came into being only by 1983 and before that KTC was headquartered in Nagercoil. As a seperate corporation for K.K.District was created, KTC headquarters got shifted to Tirunelveli. Hence, it will be appropriate to say that the body may be built by KTC in its Ranithottam depot.

rsubbu.mdu July 11th, 2011, 06:47 AM Parcel service in STC's......
Expect further increase in journey time of STC buses. Further private - drivers nexus will start in making the bus a courier carrier. Very bad move on the part of STC's.

If it is like an End to End parcel service option, then it is fine or else it is a worst move by TNSTC-Covai.
TNSTC-Coimbatore's Palani-Munnar service still serves as a Mail between munnar and Mariayur.
Vasu July 11th, 2011, 08:03 AM Parcel services are going to be introduced in TNSTCs..
Already our buses are looking simplicity compare than other state, if they are going to fit these kind of boxes, then its looks like very ugly
arun82 July 11th, 2011, 08:23 AM Smart move by STC to add additional revenue to the operation. This will compensate the loss caused by low fare hike. Most of the long distance buses have huge empty space in the back and sides of the bus. Private operator operate buses mainly to fill these space. This reduce the monopoly of courier companies like First flight, professional , DTDC ect these people own big fleet of vans which ply at reckless speeds to reach the destination
KSRaj July 11th, 2011, 10:27 AM Sorry... not nagercoil.... thats between....Neyveli - Kanyakumari...Similarly Nagercoil Region also operated between..Kanyakumari - Neyveli....but..now this route is cancelled....... i don't know why...
Correct! There were two buses introduced in 2007 - one each from TNSTC VPM and NGL. VPM was running a UD (from NTS depot) and NGL was running a Super Deluxe.
Later, NGL changed the SD to ordinary and eventually cancelled it. VPM was running the UD till about a year back. It was numbered 500UD (TN-32 N-2744). But for no valid reason, both the regions withdrew their services. And the UD fleet has been moved to Koyambedu depot of VPM region.
It is worth mentioning that there was a 562 Nagercoil to Neyveli TS by by TTC NGL depot for several years which got cancelled around 2002 or so, for no valid reason.
Cheers,
Raj

Many SETC buses did the same. They were cancelled/diverted in different routes for unknown reason.
1. Madurai-Bangalore and Kanyakumari-Bangalore route got one AC buses each. They were cancelled suddenly.
When i asked the counter guy about the Madurai-Bangalore AC bus, he said, poor response for that AC bus. KSRTC itself has one Airawat and one Rajahamsa AC in Madurai-Bangalore route.. That bus is running in Madurai-Chennai route.
2. Few SETC buses in Coimbatore-Thirunelveli route uses Pollachi route for Coimbatore-Nellai trip and in return it uses Dharapuram route.
3. SETC is not running the TN-KL interstate routes properly. They are not using the interstate KMs effectively compared to their counterparts.
mduvignesh July 11th, 2011, 11:28 AM Hi vignesh,
Very sad to hear this, they have acted like goons.
Hi Mr Nellai,
This is not my own experience, what I have read in FaceBook I have posted here. I will put my own experience about KPN. Actually my brother had a very bad experience with KPN. 2 years back, he came to Madurai from Chennai by KPN. The bus met with accident near Villupuram, it rolled 1 time upside down. Driver & cleaner runaway immediately,Many felt unconcious for nearly 1 hour, One lorry driver saw this accicent and went to near by village and informed people. Many had minor injuries, my brother had 4 stitches in his forehead. 1 pasenger died. Case was registered in Villupuram Police station.
When we got the news, we tried to call KPN Villupuram office the whole night, but no one took the phone.
This accident news was not published in any of the newspapers next day.

One more real time experience from my side, this was in the year 2005 when 4 laning had not started in the Dharmapuri - Salem stretch fully.
My collegues were travelling in a Qualis from Hosur to Erode on a official work (fortunately i was travelled very late in another Vehicle to Erode). There was a lorry with steel rods going in the front of the Qualis they were travelling. Suddenly one bus hit the Qualis form behind and the vehicle rammed into the moving lorry wherein the steel rods broke the windshield and penetrated into the vehicle, the passengers were so fortunate that day that the steel rods which had come inside were on either side of the front seat passengers but pierced none. Passengers of the Qualis only suffered minor injuries due to glass pieces and vehicle front was severly damaged. The bus had slightly halted to see what had happend. The bus which had hit from behind was a KPN one and my collegues noted down its number.
Once they were recovering, a Police patrol came there way and it was chasing the same bus (but they did not knew, it was KPN) as it had hit another vehicle few kms before. Based on the description of vehicle my collegues confirmed it to be the same rogue bus and gave the operator details and registration number to the cops. To the horror of my collegues the cops refused to accept the complaint once they came to know that the bus invovled was a KPN one :bash:
Then we came to know that, the operator takes care of cops on its major routes and in case of any such incidents, no complaints is registered.
Not sure whether still things are the same way.
dr_thapalathy July 11th, 2011, 03:46 PM I have seen this bus even before 4 years in mayavaram and it has sticker KMU-CBE. The old bus was painted reddish orange with TN-49 registration..
Hey they have also stiked Kovai name. It is not visible due to nite time poor quality. This is purely used in this route alone. Stickers are sticked all the sides of the bus
No..before 4 years Coimbature Region operated a A/C bus between Coimbature - marthandam ....then they converted to Ordinary bus..atlast they cancelled the route...
Villupuram Division operated ultra deluxe bus Between Neyveli - Nagercoil... they also stopped now
Thanks for your informations and corrections. After seeing the image very closely, i am able to see Kovai sticker.
If i am not wrong, the Coimbatore - Marthandam AC service is now running as ERO 100 bus. Atleast they could have done it in Coimbatore - Kanyakumari / Tirunelvely. Don't no, why they stopped. Atleast, it would have fetched them additional revenue now. Or, is it the train which took the crowd away from them?
Now, TNSTC VPM, has stopped it's UD services in Pondy - Chennai route also. It is because of speed restriction. They charge Rs 95 and they are slower even than their own 3*2 seater counterparts. Also, the AC buses took the market away from them. But SETC, is still running some UDs and is getting good patronage in that route. Now, they run UDs only in to Tiruchi (increased frequency) and Hosur.
Arul Murugan July 11th, 2011, 04:00 PM If any one is from Bengaluru, clear this doubt!
When TN buses use to start from Kempagowda bus terminus garbage yard, the night service SETC buses use to be parked around the same garbage yard at the back side during day time.
But now which garbage yard BDA or BMTC allotted for TN SETC buses at Shanthi nagar bus terminus in day time?
How is the facility for TN buses i.e ordinary buses destination to Hosur, Salem and Thiruvanamalai at Mysore road bus stand? Is that also operated from a garbage yard or proper bus stand!
I have one more doubt, TNSTC-Salem region Bengaluru-Salem UD buses starts from Shanthi nagar or Mysore road bus stands?
dr_thapalathy July 11th, 2011, 04:10 PM Correct! There were two buses introduced in 2007 - one each from TNSTC VPM and NGL. VPM was running a UD (from NTS depot) and NGL was running a Super Deluxe.

Most of them from Neyveli, prefer PRTC. PRTC has a quota of 10 seats for Neyveli. Plus, most of them, travel in standing in PRTC, even in weekdays as the journey time is also less and the fare is also cheap (Rs 187 from Puducherry to Nagercoil). Also, during the return trip, the bus gets more than half empty at Neyveli.
I think that either one of the corporations (VPM/TEN) will be forced to reintroduce the bus, once PRTC is going to replace the Puducherry - Nagercoil bus with an Ultra Delux type. Bus is to be introduced very soon. At that time, standing wont be allowed in the bus and i think that there must be definitely, one more bus need to be introduced.
The Cuddalore - Madurai bus is packed even in the weekdays. So, definitely, they will be forced to reintroduce the bus.

At Shanthi Nagar, there are 5 platforms. 1 for SETC, 1 for Rajahamsa and 1 for Airavat / Corona. Infact, many of the Rajahamsa buses used to stand outside the platforms, which has no shelter. All the SETC buses used to pick up passengers from inside the platforms.
How is the facility for TN buses i.e ordinary buses destination to Hosur, Salem and Thiruvanamalai at Mysore road bus stand? Is that also operated from a garbage yard or proper bus stand!
Mysore Road Bus Stand is a Multi-Level bus stand, with 2 level bays for buses. It has been upgraded and renovated recently. It is quite clean. But, the only disadvantage is that, the buses never get filled at that bus stand, as it is too far away from the bus stand.
I have one more doubt, TNSTC-Salem region Bengaluru-Salem UD buses starts from Shanthi nagar or Mysore road bus stands?
I once saw 2 TNSTC SLM UDs bound to Salem from Shanthi Nagar Bus Stand only. So, i think all UDs of TNSTC SLM must be from Shanthi Nagar.

Hi Arul,
I partly answer your question with the following post of Binai in SSC: Post (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=68624139&postcount=961)
But i am not aware where the junk yard of BMTC is, where our running junks are parked.
Once i saw a photo posted by a bus fan of a SETC bus in the central depot of KaSRTC where the majority of the Rajahamsa's reside. Might be for some repairs...so defenitely SETC has some arrangement for repairs with KaSRTC.
As far the Mysore road Satellite terminus is concerned, its a prettry decently maintained terminus and our TNSTC's get good parking slots there.
Unfortunate ones are our APSRTC, which are parked like these in the Kuppai yard of KBS:

Shantinagar TTMC is actually a very small bus terminus, but KaSRTC and BMTC authorities manage it so well that, never ever you feel the congestion that you face in CMBT. The buses come to their bay just 30-40mins before departure and no idle parking of buses is done in the bays (SETC excluded). On regular days there are two people who regulate the buses and on weekends i have seen 4-5 officers from KaSRTC handling the berthing of buses and the whole show is managed pretty decently. Our CMBT guys need to be sent here and first of all idle parking of buses belonging to TNSTC's (night running) should be stopped in the terminus. Hope Mr.Balaji takes some action as already there is some action taking place in terms of swapping of bays of buses....
Arul Murugan July 12th, 2011, 11:32 AM ^^

Still, identifying a plot of land for idle parking (preferably in Koyembedu area) for TNSTC buses will go a long way in making the terminal more manageable.

Exactly! Turn around time for TNSTC-Villupuram, Kumbakonam and Salem division buses are less compared to SETC, Coimbatore, Madurai and Nellai division.
Also just we were discussing about bus bays swapping at CMBT just in SSC, but your last post says, some works is under progress for changing bus bays?

-- Madurai
-- Coimbatore
--Dindigul
--Hosur
-- Namakkal
--Trichy
--Salem
This means there is a service from Bangalore to Madurai since all the places mentioned are in this route.. and probably 1 more to Trichy...

Blackpearl,
There is no service yet to any part of TN apart from Chennai, all are "to be" destinations only.

Subbu,
I remember seeing a service of VRL in Madurai-Bangalore route before 2 yrs. It started from Thirunagar. All of sudden they cancelled that service.

dr_thapalathy July 15th, 2011, 03:37 AM Over 300 members of the CITU trade union in Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) staged a demonstration in front of the bus depots in Dharmapuri town and moffusil, Krishnagiri town and mofussil, Hosur, Denkanikottai and Uthangarai on Thursday.
Their main demands were to refurbish the various divisions of the TNSTC that were being operated on loss. C. Muruli, district vice- president of the CITU attached to the TNSTC, told The Hindu that the demonstration was being conducted across the state to attract the government's attention to the demands of the transport employees.
The main demands include regularisation of over 2000 employees appointed by the former DMK government on casual basis in 2007, and that they should be given regular scale of pay.
The employees who were promoted recently were the worst affected, as the salary of many employees were reduced from the pay they got before promotion.
Withdraw GO
The trade union also asked the government to withdraw the government order authorising only the DMK-affiliated union to negotiate with the management.
They also demanded that the government should reimburse the subsidy for providing free bus passes to the school and college children, reporters, MLAs, MPs, and former MLAs and MPs.
They also demanded scrapping the previous wage agreement signed by the DMK-affiliated union with the government.
He also contended that due to freeze on appointment of the technical staff, the regular upkeep of the buses were affected, and hence the government should appoint technical staff immediately to oversee the maintenance of the buses keeping in view the safety of the passengers.
The CITU also asked the government to reintroduce pension benefits to the employees.
The demonstration was held at Bommidi, Adhyamaankottam.

Good to see it with such a good look.. Are the tyres also new ones?? If not, they could have done so.. Anyway the bus will be fully occupied to Chennai.. In that case, what is the need for this bus to be stickerd with Bypass Rider tag?
Why don't TNSTCs add UDs with the new Chaises they got?

Yes this bus was introduced in 2006, many UD from SETC and all UD's from TNSTC will be good on south TN, some UD's for SETC had recently transferred from Kumbakonam Division To South Depots that one will be ugly others will be somewhat neat. the tyres would be shifted to this long distance from the new buses alloted to that depot.

Always, TNSTC UDs and AC Coaches are better than their SETC Counterparts in all the factors. I have seen a TNSTC Coimbatore UD overtaking Sharma Sleeper bus, in which i was travelling. During the same trip, i also saw TNSTC CBE AC Coach from Pollachi to Chennai overtaking another private AC bus in the same route, which overtook us, as i was sitting in the seat behind to the driver.
dr_thapalathy July 15th, 2011, 05:04 PM some UD's for SETC had recently transferred from Kumbakonam Division To South Depots
Is it so because TNSTC Kumbakonam has replaced all their old Ultra Delux buses with the new Super Delux buses? Also, they have phased out all of their AC buses, i think. Coz, i am not at all able to spot one for a very long time.
After a Long Gap TNSTC -Nellai Nagercoil Region added 3 new Superdeluxe to Chennai.
Is it 3 new Services a day or just 3 buses? Coz, this wednesday, i spotted an old TNSTC Tirunelvely (NTC, TN-74-N-073X) in CMBT.
dr_thapalathy July 15th, 2011, 05:08 PM This Thrusday (14-07-2011) i spotted an TNSTC Coimbatore's Erode - Coimbatore ERO 100 AC Coach bus at CMBT? Have they changed the route for this bus? Or, they are running it as Special? What is the need to operate a special on Thursday?
On having a look at TNSTC's UDs, most of them are looking as brand new buses and are even better than some Rajahamsas.
dr_thapalathy July 15th, 2011, 05:10 PM the tyres would be shifted to this long distance from the new buses alloted to that depot.
Then what will happen to the new buses allocated to that depot? Will they buy a new tyre or they will run with the same old tyre?
dhandapanik July 15th, 2011, 05:24 PM This Thrusday (14-07-2011) i spotted an TNSTC Coimbatore's Erode - Coimbatore ERO 100 AC Coach bus at CMBT? Have they changed the route for this bus? Or, they are running it as Special? What is the need to operate a special on Thursday?
It is still up and running. They might be running that as a SPL to chennai.
On having a look at TNSTC's UDs, most of them are looking as brand new buses and are even better than some Rajahamsas.
Thats true. TNSTC UDs are better than SETCs. Point to note here is, JCBL built buses are worst in both TNSTC and SETC. Unlucky that Poy-2 depot got JCBL buses. They are trying hard to get those guys up and running.
Dont compare with Rajahamsa. They are well maintained and they charge more with some extra additions.
Then what will happen to the new buses allocated to that depot? Will they buy a new tyre or they will run with the same old tyre?
Short distance buses used to run with old tyres. Long distance buses mostly get new tyres. This common practice in all TNSTCs.
renoruberts July 15th, 2011, 05:38 PM Unlucky that Poy-2 depot got JCBL buses. They are trying hard to get those guys up and running.
JCBL built buses are worst. Noone told their body as good till today.
Nagercoil Region got 12 UD buses.. in which 10 buses were JCBL built. many conductors complainted about front door next day when they introduced..
They feel hard to maintain it.. Later 2 Buses are transfered to Thisayanvilai Depot when it under Nagercoil Region(now it controlled by Nellai).
we can see Thisayanvilai - Chennai UD is running with TN-74 N-103X Reg no..
MY QUESTION IS WHAT IS THE REASON TO BUILT A TNSTC BUS IN CHANDIGARH???

The same question i had initially. This could be because of tender. IRT could have called for a tender for Fully built(FBV) ultra deluxe services. FBV tender could have been given to AL. So these JCBL guys might have got a sub contract from AL. This is how TATA, AL and Volvo got the tenders for JNNURM buses. you can see the FBV badge in the AL SLFs.
Sample badge of Irizar TVS built AL SLF..

Most of the people in K.K.Dist prefer TNSTC's than SETC when they move to Chennai.. In Earlier days... 6 servies operated daily...
but now they increased.. 2 new buses replaced.. 2 old buses.. Due to demand 1 is added as new service.. 10 years old TN-74 N-0732 and TN-74 N-722 are running as pair...
but don't think as old bus... they are well maintained.. they make

On having a look at TNSTC's UDs, most of them are looking as brand new buses and are even better than some Rajahamsas.
It could be used as a spare for a broke down scheduled AC bus in that route. They might have utilized the ERO 100 AC bus as alternative.
Mr.Nellai July 15th, 2011, 11:18 PM http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/2677/dsc03374ru.jpg
This bus was stickered mukil :) and originally was painted with pale yellow which is distinct from the yellow colored buses of SETC.
This bus comes under the 10XX series i suppose, which is introduced way before the recently introduced highway rider UDs of SETC. But those SETC UDs have become like "nay vandi" but still this TNSTC bus remains in good shape.
This is one more example why SETC should be dissolved and the respective regional TNSTCs should be given those long distance routes.

During FC usually private and govt buses will retread their tyres, repaint them so they look like a brand new one. But as dhandapani mentioned long distance buses usually will be fitted with best tyres.
dhandapanik July 16th, 2011, 04:26 AM Is it so because TNSTC Kumbakonam has replaced all their old Ultra Delux buses with the new Super Delux buses? Also, they have phased out all of their AC buses, i think. Coz, i am not at all able to spot one for a very long time.
[/B] in CMBT.
Are you sure that all KMU UDs are replaced with SD buses? I have seen couple of UDs when i was in CMBT last week.
Trichy region got 3 AC buses from CBE division. One was running in AP-Srirangam route and the other two was used in Chennai-Trichy route. They were the worst TNSTC AC buses i have seen. Not sure whether they are running now also.

Thanks for notifying.. I stand corrected... They have replaced not all, but most of the UDs with Super Delux and infact, they are moving even faster than the UDs. Also, some of the Super Delux buses are stickered as Ultra Delux and they are having seats with the same comfort as in UDs. The fares are bit higher than the SETC Luxury Coach buses.

Ya.. Infact, KMU division is the worst among the TNSTCs in maintenance of the UDs and AC Coach buses. Also, TNSTC Villupuram has increased the fleet of it's UDs to Trichirapalli. They have stopped running UDs to Pondy and they have diverted to Tiruchi, giving a good competition in their prime revenue generating route.
dr_thapalathy July 16th, 2011, 05:04 AM Dont compare with Rajahamsa. They are well maintained and they charge more with some extra additions.
I agree with you if i compare SETC with Rajahamsa. But, here, i am comparing TNSTC UDs with Rajahamsa, which are really on par with Rajahamsa's maintenance.
If, SETC is amalgamated with TNSTCs and more of UDs and AC Coach buses are introduced in the prime routes and in important Interstate routes, then TNSTCs will give private operators and KSRTC, a run for their money. I am sure of this.

Possibility is there, but we have a big drawback, "lack of online booking". (we have to wait till 2012:ohno:)

Why is this thread deleted?
That is actually KSRTCs own decision to shorten these routes since running within Tamilnadu doesn't earn the same profit as running within Kerala owing to rate per km difference in both states. But TNSTC will be happy to introduce more routes into Kerala as rate per km is more in Kerala than in Tamilnadu.
Actually those services weren't stopped. Those were shortened until Marthandam from Trivandrum to reduce running distance within Tamilnadu.
DolphinsTuti July 16th, 2011, 09:28 PM Hi
Is these buses belongs to SETC?
No, these are private one which runs inside chennai, for shifting employees to IT Sectors, other private organization.

Hi Anil Kumar,
Can you elaborate more on this same rate concept in a state. We will take the case of SETC UD and Rajahamsa operatred by KaSRTC, do you mean to say that both will charge the same for say Mdu - Blr journey ?? Its the not the case.

Any buses operating to Velankanni from Nagercoil by TNSTC?
Nagercoil - velankanni route is occupied by SETC.. They operating more than 5 service in a day + 1 or 2 specials in week ends..... Cholachel - Velankanni, Cholachel - Cochin, Marthandam - Kottayam are a requested route of people... previously Madurai Division did't show any interest in it.. and later Nellai Division doing the same... But in future we can expect it... So SETC diverted one bus in this route... now its running as Marthandam - Cholchel - Velankanni...
Here it is.

dr_thapalathy July 17th, 2011, 03:41 PM Guys, the below bus is something special and unique among other buses belonging to all TNSTC divisions. Can anyone find it out?

Mr.Nellai July 17th, 2011, 04:11 PM ^^^^ the body builder or the depot it belongs. it is mentioned as puthu in depot name so it belongs to puducherry depot. Or special bus diverted to puducheri- mayavaram route?

Simple. You were almost there.
Normally, buses will be diverted as special to Chennai, anywhere from Tamilnadu, which will be running in other route. But, this bus, stickered in Chennai route, is running in Puducherry - Mayavaram route. I am seeing this bus in this route for the past 1 month. (Just now got a chance to capture it). So, i think that this bus is running permanently in this route.
Also, this is the first TNSTC VPM division bus in this route. Usually, TNSTC Kumbakonam used to operate down to Chidambaram to delta districts from Puducherry.
