Arul Murugan September 7th, 2011, 11:45 AM Bus fans keep your fingers crossed.
Tomorrow transport dept 2011-12 policy note, announcement and allocation will be read in assembly.
Hope they don't copy and paste what KN was having same crap for past 5yrs. Expecting some reforms...:)
I remember a news where senthil balaji was telling transport policy note will be released on 7th sep. But looks so far no info.
http://www.assembly.tn.gov.in/
and this site never updates the schedule of assembly.
wonder if they are waiting for Chennai monorail info.
Ramesh-NTM September 7th, 2011, 04:45 PM 1) Ramesh please understand that TNSTC PDKT has bus from trichy to nagercoil and from Trichy to tiruchendur via madurai.
2) TNSTC erode runs coimbatore to madurai buses and coimbatore to trichy buses ...u know why? because it passes through erode region. For both the above cases, you have given the answer as well. B'cos these routes pass through atleast few kms of these regions, i.e., PDKT and Erode not KMU and CBE. TNSTC, MDU operated a bus in Dindigul - Sivagangai via Melur. No one would comment about that, because though few in kilometres, places around Melur come under MDU region and it has got all rights to take up this route after proper arrangements made by KKDI and DGL regions for slots.
but TNSTC KKDI runs madurai to trichy because after melur it comes under its (KMU) territiory and TRICHy region dont oppose it because both are from same division.
So TNSTC karaikudi operates bus from maduari towards trichy because after melur the area is coming under TNSTC KUM so they have the option to run maudari -trichy route as Trichy is also coming under KMU division...If you see KKDI region as KMU division then you will not have such confusionI don't think all KMU regions are under the same umbrella. It is only these divisions which display their regions as Trichy, KKDI, PDKT and it is happening ONLY in KMU division. No other TNSTC displays their region but only divisions like VPM, MDU, CBE, SLM, Tirunelveli. Madurai - Trichy has part of PDKT region falling in but not KKDI. Just because TRY doesn't oppose, KKDI cannot go in for routes wherever TRY, PDKT, KMU region falls midway. If that is the case, then there won't be any sense in displaying a region, which they are supposed to take care of.
In fact, this way of working is not prevailing in PDKT, TRY or KMU regions.
PDKT connects its towns like Meemisal, Thirumayam, Ponnamaravathy with big cities in shorter routes which wouldn't be known to people who travel in NH and SH's. Few examples are
1) Pattukottai - Palani via PDKT, Iluppur, Viralimalai, Manapparai. I have seen a Manamelgudi - Palani bus also recently but not sure about the route.
2) They have Pattukottai - Trichy via Kandarvakottai, Pattukottai - DGL via Arandhangi, KKDI.
They use their depots based at TRY, Pattukottai purely for their own territory's benefit and doesn't route the above said buses via the KMU region's highway which is money making. These buses would be treated very bad in collection wise but connection wise, don't you think PDKT is doing a lot for its region? This region is getting back buses in shortest routes to Ponnamaravathy from Tiruppur by TNSTC, Erode (via DGL, Natham) and Dharmapuri by TNSTC, Dharmapuri (via NKL, Kulithalai, Manapparai).
But KKDI route its buses to west by TRY or MDU and get back in the same routes by extensions of TRY or MDU bound buses by Trichy, Erode regions. Connectivity within its territory or entire KMU region alone wouldn't be sufficient. When they can get slots from other regions (VPM, DGL, SLM, CBE, ED, TUP) for operating regular/ special buses from MDU - TRY/ SLM/ CBE/ ED/ TUP and beyond, can't they get it for connectivity in shorter routes? I feel the latter would be easier as this would the very first or one of very few buses available.
The decision to run maduari-chennai spls will be made by TNSTC KUM and not solely by KKDI region .
If KKDI is a seperate division then I can accept your argument but it is actually KUM division so KUM has jurisdiction after melur till perambalur and tilll rameswaram so they can operate buses which pass through this area(it can be KKDI/TRUCHY/PDKT) as KKDI has depot in madurai KUM has better option to start a bus from madurai using KKDI.
Hope you understand. And please dont say KKDI has not provided connectivity to its own region it has given good connection to most its interior pockets. As you said to operate KKDI-ponnamaravathy-kulitahlai-karir-erode route, IAM sure the patronage will be very very low as already a TNSTC PDKT(earlierKKDI) bus runs on this route with poor patronage.IMHO, PDKT which is taking care of just 1 district can be given this additional load rather than KKDI which already has 2 districts to take care of.
If that is the case then why dont TNSTC DGL start its KKDI to ERODE/TIRUPUR buses via dindigul? as it passes through DGL region they can always do it but the point is that collection will be less.DGL would be another worse region in everyting. They use their depots in many small towns just to maintain their buses running towards west/ north-west from MDU. They have completely ignored the connections towards north-west & west from Palani itself, which is topper in temple earnings in TN. Luckily CBE regions (ED/ TUP/ CBE) covers up these routes again, because these routes go via their territory.
Only in previous AIADMK period, Natham depot buses started going beyond Thuvarankurichi, Madurai and Dindigul till Nagore/ Chennai, Rameshwaram/ Tiruchendur and Tiruppur respectively. All others were long distance buses operated for MDU or were buses from other depots transferred to Natham depot. Don't expect anything from such a region when we ourselves don't expect. :ohno: It was a miracle for them to operate Tiruppur - Thuvarankurichi.
That is the reason TNSTC cbe bus operates covai-KKDi bus through madurai which is again circuituos rather than through DGl purey because of collection so TNSTC CBE also does the same. TNSTC tirunelveli operates nagercoil to rameswaram bus through maduari which is longer than through ECR which is again for collection. It happens in every TNSTCs.This could have been because of collection, journey time due to road condition earlier but most TNSTC's now go for shorter routes possible except KKDI and TNSTC regions when entering KKDI territory. I would place KKDI in the lines of Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Thiruvallur regions which operate CMBT - Trichy regular services, which is in noway related to them.

Guys any body have pictures of Tiruvallur region Buses??
rsubbu.mdu September 7th, 2011, 06:01 PM Guys,
Few snaps from the long weekend travel last week:

...to be continued
dhandapanik September 7th, 2011, 06:06 PM KUM is competing with MDU in madurai-trichy sector because after melur the area comming under KUM division and KUM operates more trichy-maduari buses than MDU so they have their share in maduari-trichy route.
MDU is operating rameswaram-erode because it is passing through madurai..MDU opearates rameswaram-tirupur because it passes through maduari thats why KUM operates maduari-chennai because it passes through KUM region.
Even our SETC operates trivandrum-bangalore because they pass through TN and have a depot at trivandrum.this is exactly the same case with KKDI region. People can argue that SETC should give connectivity only and start it from nagercoil as there are lot of crowd from there, but SETC has the rights to operate this route.
if KUM(Be it trichy / KKDI region) is really interested in madurai-chennai route, why cant they get a regular permit in this route and run it?? Still i feel Trichy-Chennai is dominated by VPM by introducing new routes. let KUM win this route from VPM and then come to Madurai-Chennai route.
KKDI region depot at madurai is specifically there to serve its two dist and not connecting Madurai with other cities just because it runs through few KM inside KKDI territory. If that is the real scenario KKDI should have started all these routes long back and not before 5/6 months.
MDU divn runs them as regular services and not as specials. Whereas KKDI runs these services as SPL(Saw a Madurai-Chennai stickered bus long back, but not seeing them now).
If KKDI(or any other region of KUM really obeys the orders KUM divn) then first let them remove all their individual region names in the wind sheild. :)
Coming to your erode region queries... Erode region already had enough presence connecting CBE and Tirupur with many places from long back. Even erode region is running city buses inside tirupur. At the same time erode region connected all its important towns with important places well. Erode region was best in terms of connecting its territory with other places.
Trivandrum-Bangalore route was an extended route of Trivandrum-Hosur. Saw 1986 route list of SETC and TVM-Bangalore was not there. Just notice the distance SETC runs inside TN. :)
I dont want to drag this discussion again and again. Let me stop here.

Subbu,
We also got them running in Tirupur, Pollachi and Udumalpet(One bus). Not sure about Mettupalayam. This was initially tried by Pallipalayam workshop.. Built quality of few buses were not bit bad and later they were really good.
The one which you have mentioned is built by Erode region itself(Pallipalayam unit)
Below one could have been built by CEC. Red color for front face looks better in both the buses. they could have used red for all the SS body buses. Bumper design, Head light cover design and Front grill designs are traditional CEC design.

This bus is fitted with SLF seats and the minimum fare is increased to Rs.3(City Exp charges). Dont know how this missed the latest inaugural ceremony. Any idea when first SS body buses were introduced? This SS body were common in city buses of Coimbatore. I was seeing them from 2002.. but my Trichy friends use to tell, it was common in Trichy and go introduced way back 2000 first by private players.
I don't like those velvet covers too. It gives ching chack effect to the bus.

dr_thapalathy September 8th, 2011, 09:55 AM Sorry to drag KaSRTC as usual ( i am forced to quote, as they seem to have some good practices and are our immediate neighbours). Even if the Rajahamsa is full and some fifty people waiting outside for tickets. No one is allowed to sit and cramp the whole driver cabin, i.e on driver bed.(there might be one off cases some time).
.
KaSRTC Rajahamsa usually allows people to sit in the driver cabin whenever there is huge crowd and i have seen it once. A person sitting in driver cabin upto Tiruvannamalai in Bang - Pondy Rajahamsa on Friday evening.

I had same experience with APSRTC while traveling from Nandyal to Bengaluru 3months ago. It was a night bus, but there was standing crowd from Banaganabali to Tadipatri around 10:00pm to 11:00PM 1hr travel... it was a super delux bus from Srisailam to Bengaluru... bus was empty when it reached Nandyal... but from Nandyal it was full and it was carrying many way side passengers.. And at Hindupur more than half of the crowd got down and only 10-15passengers were there to get down at Bengaluru.
dr_thapalathy September 8th, 2011, 10:05 AM Ramesh,
Hundreds of people were standing in Ramnad bay waiting for catching buses towards Ramnad / Rameshwaram. But KKDI region is busy in putting up buses towards chennai. i have seen buses which had stickers of Madurai-Ramanathapuram standing there with temporary boards of chennai. I personally noticed these things in MIBT few times.
There was a problem between SETC officials(came up in Papers already) and Kumbakonam divn officials in running specials to Chennai. Even problems came up between some officials of Madurai. Now madurai divn turning up more buses towards chennai. BTW Madurai divn operated regular buses bound to South and CBE/Tirupur. Most of the spls i have seen to chennai are old BPRs of Madurai-Nellai route.
But evalo than special buses Chennai ku vittalum, the buses are not self sufficient. People want more and more special buses to Chennai.
But, it is really sad to see the sufferings of passengers bound to other places apart from chennai. This situation wont stop unless and until, 2 overnight trains to Madurai and Tiruchi each are introduced by SR permenantly on a daily basis.:ohno::ohno:
I think all the TNSTCs need to have some of their old buses as reserve for special trips to Chennai. Instead of dumping them or allocating them to town bus route, they can do it just in weekends and holiday seasons. Also, it can be added in the timetable as a Peak Hour Special.
dr_thapalathy September 8th, 2011, 10:08 AM Can we expect introducing Volvo's in Tier 2 cities as it was mentioned by the transport minister?
When was it announced by Transport Minister? I didn't hear of any such announcements.
Can anyone clarify it?
dr_thapalathy September 8th, 2011, 10:17 AM @ Dhandapani, Subbu, Biani, Reno and Ramesh
I too feel shy lot of times when i go to take pics of buses.
During the time when PRTC introduced its new bus in Mahe and Nagercoil routes, i went to bus stand exclusively for this purpose.
My parents and friends scold and tease at me when i take pics of buses, whenever and wherever possible.
But really hats off to your work on taking pics regularly.
dr_thapalathy September 8th, 2011, 10:18 AM I guess there is a legal way to get away from this issue. We need to register our name with dt administration for taking picture.. and ID card may be given. I am not sure about this rule...
:lol::lol:
dr_thapalathy September 8th, 2011, 10:25 AM Subbu sir do u have any idea which company built body for this one.......
If new SETC UD buses were built with this front design will surely be a hit.....
Old warrior or we can say king...... still undefeated.......:)
I think that it must be built by SETC Workshop at Nagercoil only.
rsubbu.mdu September 8th, 2011, 10:29 AM KaSRTC Rajahamsa usually allows people to sit in the driver cabin whenever there is huge crowd and i have seen it once. A person sitting in driver seat upto Tiruvannamalai in Bang - Pondy Rajahamsa.
He might be the driver!
Just Kidding

VPM run Hosur - Chennai, the mayil livery is good:
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-GSA8stgTBvU/TmOTd1DiyGI/AAAAAAAAJkI/2X5dXVpf8Ak/s800/DSC00541.JPG
In fact, TNSTC VPM was the first to introduce NONSTOP and BY-PASS RIDER tags in its buses. The NON-STOP service became a big hit in Vellore region buses, while it was a big flop in Villupuram and Kancheepuram region buses. The tag BY-PASS RIDER is not much visible in TNSTC VPMs buses. They just have it in the destination name boards.
All the TNSTC VPM buses to Pondy, Cuddalore and Chidambaram, via GST Road are tagged with BY-PASS RIDER stickers. I remember seeing them since 2002.

Few old Annai sathya buses have same look that of SETC pic posted by Binai.
Arul,
In west we have SETC depots at Coimbatore and Salem only. Moreover SETC got few buses built by other regions too. I vaguely remember that SETC(Old TTC) bus getting built by CEC. SETC had one TN29 bus long back. I forgot the route..

There was one time when SETC starting buying used buses from TNSTC's ...at that time they got TN45 SD bus which was running earlier on Chennai - Trichy from TRY divn. Then they went further down, they got TN32 3*2 buses from VPM, put two doors on them and started running them as well...i have travelled in one such bus long time back.
New lot from TNSTC divisions were also there, but very few. I have seen one TN72 registerd bus with SETC.

Precisely Binai, that 2004-2005 time frame only. The bus you have put is one got second hand from TN29. The TN32 3*2 i travelled was also running on the KL route (i guess Tuticorin - Ernakulam).
Even if you note the windshield of this bus, they just removed the words "Perunthu - Dharamapuri" and have put in "viraivu perunthu" in a different font size....poor guys....

Ya subbu . The air bus existed in many routes such as chennai-trichy,chennai-trivandrum, chennai-chenganachery . The suspension was good for those buses. The busues used to be in light violet colour. I have travelled in those busues two to three times and fare difference was only 15- 20 rupees between the so called airbus and the super deluxe buses.

No Binai, this one is a Video Coach (ie SD + video). Those buses were bit huge. I have seen them running from 2002-3 time frame. They were badly handled by SETC guys and they became Air bellows fitted junk moving around.

Those so called Air Buses were really good in speed. I remember traveling by those buses once from Thiruvananthapuram to Chennai in days before 2000. It started from Thiruvananthapuram at 2 PM in the afternoon and reached early morning at 6 AM. At that time, it was faster than many of the travels buses at that time.

dr_thapalathy September 8th, 2011, 02:41 PM Today, i travelled in an SETC UD TN-01-N-7349, belonging to Pondy depot.
I boarded it at Thiruvanmyur. I got a very good impression of the bus. There were many changes i was able to see in it:
1. No Hanging bulbs. All of them are replaced with Mini tube lights giving a good and the bus had nicely washed interiors.
2. There was a leather cover attached with the seat in the head rest, giving a decent look at the seats.
Last, but not the least
3. There were no Bed Bugs. (SETC lost its ISP :ohno::ohno:)

No time frame is given. At the same time.. 1000 SLFs of MTC were <2 yrs old and they were JNNURM SLFs. 100 Volvos are also <2 yrs old and they were also procured with JNNURM Assitance.
Overall MTC has around 3140 buses. And most of the buses were <5 yrs. Old SLFs looks bad because of the worst maintenance. I think the reported mislead the statement. Govt allotted 125Cr for procuring 3000 new buses in the budget.
------------------------------------------------
Correction:
As per MTC website, MTC has 3421 buses(website updated on 31-07-2011) and they got 36 BS-4 buses during inauguration.
MTC started updating all its tender documents in MTC website itself. Even the latest queries and clarification related to Monorail is updated in the website.
isham_9626 September 8th, 2011, 03:34 PM Any idea when first SS body buses were introduced? This SS body were common in city buses of Coimbatore. I was seeing them from 2002.. but my Trichy friends use to tell, it was common in Trichy and go introduced way back 2000 first by private players.
I don't like those velvet covers too. It gives ching chack effect to the bus.
The First private bus was introduced by TST Bus Services in Trichy in the year 1932. This bus was running in steam. The First SS Body bus was introduced around 1950's by TST again.
Also i heard from my friend that The first private bus transport was proposed to start in 1992 in Pollachi and they started in the year 1996. This bus services were by Pollachi Mahalingam.

The services were started in 1996 but still govt doesn't give permission for priavate players. So they stopped and started it again in 2000 (Fully in operation).
The same case happened in Tanjore. Initially the private buses were in operation and govt took over the buses and formed as CRC (Cholan Roadways Corporation).
Ramesh-NTM September 8th, 2011, 03:57 PM No Subbu, this is a new bus. the KKD bus via dindugal starts at 6.30 am from Erode and in returrn starts at KKD BY 2.30pm i think.Arandhangi - Erode via DGL departs KKDI @ 2:40 PM, Natham @ 4:35 PM. It departs DGL and Natham at sometime around 10:40 AM & 11:45 AM respectively towards Arandhangi in return. Another interesting info about this route is that 2 buses do alternate days' service to Erode and will ply in Arandhangi - Trichy after Erode trip.
Spotted this bus also on sunday at KKDI. It was operated to MDU while some dabba without head rest was deployed in Erode route. PDKT's Ponnamaravathy - Coimbatore morning bus (route #: 569 B) has lost its charm after FC. PDKT usually cares much for these buses to Coimbatore (route #s: 569 A & B) and Erode (route #: 423).

I am putting the TVS ad that i had put earlier again...it talks about TVS running Public transport with coal in 1912 itself. So they shoud be the first operator in TN. or your statement was specific to Trichy ??

Rightly said! There is NO need to replace any fleet in MTC. It is high time to increase the fleet strength than to simply throw out the <5 years fleet or transfer to other TNSTCs to get ultimately spoiled. In fact this is mostly the first time in history of PTC/MTC that the entire fleet is <5 years.
Cheers,
Raj
Mr.Nellai September 8th, 2011, 06:38 PM Arul SS body city buses were there in Pollachi and Coimbatore areas from long back. I have seen them built by AE, LGB etc.,
BTW SS bodies are first introduced by Erode region at erode. Later CBE got many such SS body buses. I have seen operating in some bhavani route also. But missed them to capture when i was in Bhavani some 6 months back.
The only drawback with the seats in these SS Body buses are they are made of velvette cloths. They should have tried normal vinyl material itself.
Even before the above mentioned regions/ entire SS design without any color was used in 80 s and 90 s by Madurai region in VNR and sivakasi. you can see them even in subramaniyapuram film. Even in 90s there was SS buses in nellai with single red livery which is very much similar to CBE type livery.:)

Most of the Dailys are attacking DMK directly for their worst rule.:banana:
I have a doubt:
Why is IRT Polytechnic college and IRTT set-up???
TNSTCs can directly be allocated technicians who completed Diploma in Mechanical and Electricals in IRT Polytechnic College and IRTT. Even these institutions come under the Transprort Department of Tamilnadu. The recruitment cost will be minimized.

dilipr September 9th, 2011, 06:09 AM This bus goes Non-stop between these destinations.
In peak hours, it goes Non-Stop between Chennai and Hosur.
The bus generally goes non-stop only between chennai and vellore ( they bypass sriperumpudhur, walaja and dont stop at kaveripattanam). These buses takes 10 to 20 minutes halt in vellore and start to hosur. They by-pass vaniyambadi but enter in to krishnagiri and they do stop at ambur, pallikonda and mathanur. The non-stop is just name sake during the day time. I have used these buses two to three times between chennai and hosur.

Simply superb captures. I am loving the new fc of both slf and vestibule- excellent. Paint job and livery of vestibule looks really good.
With regards mTC, the second one you posted has a different good looking face and I like that green livery than others.
The lightish green with one stripe of dark better than dark with single light stripe.

I hope they make these Sd door automatic.
Arun, who built those periyapattinam and theni, cumbum buses?
Guys why is kumabakonam allowing TNSTC karaikudi on buses? atleast in side written kumbakonam? no other division allowing regions to do this.

Which one of these green liveries you guys like?
I think green better looking than blue. In like the second one, apart from the livery, those al badges also make it look good. now most fc buses are also getting this face, we saw some setc ud's getting it.
I dont like the blue one in these pics. but if you see in ambattur depot pic, you can see a marcopolo. light blue with dark. that light blue replacing the dark ones in above blue bus with dark taking light sstripe places will make blue look bit good.
Previous jaya period in 90's too had this green and blue combination of buses for pallavan.
but i hated the green then, as it was no good.

Most of the times in 2010 and in this year when i go to CMBT, i am seeing SETC UDs being Water-washed. It was during the end of 2010 and in 2011, SETC UDs looked clean from the exteriors.
Now, i am sure, SETC will really compete with KSRTC and other private players.
SETC needs to explore some new inter-state routes with it's UDs and further upgrade the buses if possible. My suggestion for immediate attention is:
1. Chennai - Mysore
2. Chennai - Hyderabad
3. Chennai - Vijayawada
4. Coimbatore - Mysore

Sankkar September 9th, 2011, 08:43 AM Dhandapani - This is regarding TNSTC MDU and TNSTC CBE buses running between Madurai to Coimbatore.
I used to travel every week between Coimbatore to Madurai from 2007 to 2010 regularly(still i am travelling but not every week). I always feel like TNSTC CBE drivers are very slow compared to other division buses and also they never show any urgency like reaching in time.
Until early 2009 from 7 PM to 7 AM Madurai bound buses were starting from Gandhipuram. Even during those days buses used to reach Madurai in 5 hours. Since early 2009 buses have been starting from Singanallur and still it takes 5 hours to reach Madurai. Most of the times TNSTC CBE used to take 5.30 hours. Now after replacing the older one'e they are much better.
In fact after some time i preferred TNSTC MDU buses. I planned my schedule accordingly. For instance i always like to take Madurai bus from Coimbatore from 7 PM to 8 PM(this time was allotted to TNSTC MDU)only that too specifically 19.25 Tirunelveli Bus. Mostly it will reach in 4.30 hours. While coming back from Madurai, i will take the bus from 2 PM to 3 PM. I had been doing this till early 2010.
Yesterday I travelled in TNSTC CBE BPR from Madurai to Coimbatore. It took 4.40 minutes to be exact. But i travelled in TNSTC MDU more than couple of times and it took nothing more than 4 hours. Ticket price Rs. 85 on both the buses.
It was surprising to me the time difference it makes even in BPR's. Please clarify.

These Buses were built by their respective body building units, every one knows about body buildings of Karaikudi region, i have a doubt with Dindigul region, whether it is built by Dgl region or built by pasumalai unit in Madurai.

Sankar,
Worst running time in Madurai-Coimbatore route is actually from Dindigul region. Once it took more than 5.5 hrs. I never felt that CBE is dragging too much.
if you are travelling from Coimbatore to madurai around 10.00 PM, you can try using Coimbatore-Thiruchendur AC bus. Now a days its becoming difficult to get a seat to madurai. From Madurai(Arapalayam) it started somewhere between 1.00 - 1.45 AM.
A month before i used a BPR of Coimbatore.. It took exactly 4.5 hrs to reach madurai. This is the BPR which i have used and you might have used the same.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-mP1LmwbGhQM/TjLPDNLEq-I/AAAAAAAAB1M/DXWmw347O6Q/DSC06320.jpg
Now Some of the Nellai divn buses towards coimbatore are also operated as BPRs. TNSTC-Nellai's Tuticorin-Coimbatore(Ukkadam) bus completes Madurai-Coimbatore(Via Pollachi) in 4.5 hrs. This is the fastest guy in our route.
Sankkar,
Is it Non stop similar like MDU - Tirunelveli BPRs??
Vignesh,
Madurai-CBE BPRs stops @ Palladam, Dharapuram, Oddanchatram. from Oddanchatram it takes DGL bye pass and skips Kodai road and Vadipatti. Normal buses takes Sempatti route and some of them skips kodai road and vadipatti.
Even Madurai-Nellai BPRs are not non stop buses. They stops @ Thirumangalam, Sattur, Kovilpatti.
Vignesh,
This is not a non stop neither TNSTC MDU but it will reach with in 4 hours.
Based on my exp only one MDU bus reached Madurai in 4 hrs. But that was a old story. MDU is the first to introduce a BPR in Madurai-Coimbatore route. Incidentally that was my first bus fanning click. It was a converted SLF. This coverted SLF was replaced with a new bus. It is back to its original city bus route in madurai i.e Arapalayam-Thirumangalam via Bye Pass road. Again as a BPR in madurai city.
Initially it took 4 hrs(1.5 hrs to reach Oddanchatram from Madurai) and after some time it took more than 4 hrs.

Normal MDU - CBE running time is 5 hours and fare is Rs. 70.
For BPR's fare is 85 and running hours is less.
What I am saying is ideally it should be 4 hours for BPR's which MDU division is managing and not the case for CBE division for them offical running time is 4.30 hours in BPR's with the same fare which is not acceptable.
To make matters worse Madurai division is running only two BPR's in this route including the Tirunelvel to Coimbatore bus.
dhandapanik September 9th, 2011, 09:24 AM Thank you, but can you please tell me then what is the difference b/w BPRs and normal MDU - CBE services? Is BPRs little bit faster than normal services or fare is more in normal service?

BPR: Oddanchatram, Dharapuram, Palladam (Same for AC Service)

Madurai-Coimbatore fare:

BPR: Rs.85
Madurai-Oddanchatram(Here it is NS) in same BPR:
Normal: Rs.28/Rs.30
BPR(Serves as a Non Stop): Rs.40

Bang on Dhandapani. Thanks for your clarification. I used the same bus yesterday.
As for as my experience 19.25 Coimbatore to Tirunelveli guy is the fastest in the route(now it has been converted in to BPR recently).
Your Dindugul Division observation is rite. I believe they are more or less in line with CBE Division.
Dindigul division had one super fast staring at 19.35 from CBE to MDU(it will be written as CBE to Sivakasi but will go upto Madurai only.) next to Tirunvelveli bus. This one used to compete with Tirunelveli bus and had given a stiff competition with some success and i travelled in this one also when i could not find a seat in tirunelveli bus. I don't know nowadays they opearte this one or not.
In Madurai to Coimbatore sector, I always preferred Thiruchendur to CBE bus(red one) starting around 2.45 PM just before the Rameswaram to CBE(CBE division) bus. I don't know whether they replaced this bus or not.
Also nowadays i am travelling in different times so don't know the status of these buses.

its much needed.

BPR: Oddanchatram, Dharapuram, Palladam (Same for AC Service)
Normal Services may stop in some extra stops and during some festival times more BPRs are operated.
Madurai-Coimbatore fare:
Normal service: Rs.70
BPR: Rs.85
which route has more service? via dharapuram or palani? and whats avg time taken in both of them?
madurai-coimbatore via palani has palani, pollachi, udumalpet and can be more remunerative?
If only we had a small BPR bus stand. doesnt need to be huge. just 6 bays at bye pass beginning and operated town-byepass bus services, these bprs could make quick entry exits

Coimbatore-Sivakasi(Till Madurai) from DGL region was running earlier. Havent noticed it in recent times. That was an old bus. Not sure whether they replaced it with some new stickerings.
Nellai buses are fastest. Newly introduced Thenkasi-Coimbatore(with Transferred buses from CBE. :)) of Nellai are really good. It starts in the midnight from madurai. You will get a combined feel of CBE and Nellai in that.
I have used MDU buses(except BPR) couple of times and none of them reached before 4.5 hrs. Only BPR took me before 4.5 hrs. Other than that most of them takes 4.5 to 5 hrs.
Better avoid DGL guys. Opt for Nellai/MDU/CBE. IMO CBE buses are clean than MDU guys. :)
its much needed.
which route has more service? via dharapuram or palani? and whats avg time taken in both of them?
madurai-coimbatore via palani has palani, pollachi, udumalpet and can be more remunerative?
If only we had a small BPR bus stand. doesnt need to be huge. just 6 bays at bye pass beginning and operated town-byepass bus services, these bprs could make quick entry exits
Coimbatore-Madurai via Dharapuram has more service. Running buses via Dharapuram is not a problem for CBE/MDU/Nellai divisions because they dont have timing issues in this route. All the special buses in CBE-MDU route uses this route only.
Coimbatore-Madurai via Pollachi has got big timing problem @ Pollachi, Udumalpet and Palani bus stands
1. Coimbatore-Pollachi --> <5 min frequency. During peak hours it goes to <3 min. More private buses. Timings are followed strictly.
2. Coimbatore/Pollachi-Palani --> 5-10 min frequency.
3. Palani-Madurai --> Except festival times, timings are followed strictly.
TNSTC-Coimbatore operates 3 buses via Pollachi, DGL operates 1 bus, MDU operates 1 bus and Nellai has 4 buses. Pollachi-Madurai is taken care by DGL region.
Coimbatore-Madurai buses via pollachi stops at 10 min in Pollachi BS, <5 min in Udumalpet and 5-10 min in Palani BS. And these buses cant skip Pollachi/Udumalpet/Palani. So stopping in all these towns will consume atleast 20-30 min. Still ABT, ARC, SRM, KPN and most of SETC buses uses this route.

All the normal services irrespective of the division takes 4 hours 30 minutes to 5 hours only and expect them to reach before 4 hours 30 minutes is not possilbe. To drag it to more than 5 hours is not at all acceptable.
My point is BPR's to take 4 hours and 30 minutes is not good having charged 15 rupees more. It has to be 4 hours.

Sankkar,
Both the services suffer with 2 lane roads till Oddanchatram. From there BPR takes a different route. Driving in this 2 lane road is really difficult for them and they also have a 5-10 min break in between and that is really needed. Only prob is they never stop in good motel. Initially they saved 1 hrs in these BPRs and now it got reduced a bit. But 4 hrs is really tough job for our TNSTCs. Do you think Rs.85 is more for 210 KM journey? They accelerate a bit more for this Rs.15. :) I loved these BPR services from MDU and CBE. MDU started it and CBE following it.
I feel pity for the bus running in Coimbatore-Madurai and Palani-Madurai route.. Almost 90% of the normal services in the above 2 routes enters inside Kodai road, Vadipatti and some will skip any one. Again the road present in Pudhuchatram to Kamalapuram(Where sempatti road joins NH7) is really bad. You also need to see the huge speed breakers present in this section.

Dhandapani,
I am not saying Rs. 85 is more but problem is there is not a big difference in running time. Then what is the point in having BPR. They have to find alternative way to do some thing about it.
Yes I agree starting from Pudhuchatram to Kamalapuram it will kill time. If i am rite, it takes one hour to cross this distance of around 30 kms.
Now most of the buses started skipping Kodai Road and taking bye pass in peak hours. Vadipatti have to go inside. Two years back some buses started using Vadipatti bye pass but that area people agitated for it and some how managed to succeed in that.

The modified SLF(now got a replacement.. Noticed the new bus a week back) and the CBE BPR saved good amount of time till Oddanchatram. They saved 30-45 minutes in Oddanchatram-Madurai section. But they lost considerable amount in Oddanchatram-Coimbatore part. Problem is we got only 50KM 4 laned road(Samayanallur-DGL bye pass), the rest 160KM were 2 laned and most of the distance are not even NH. :(

I had observed in my travels untill 2 yrs back 2 lane road from palani to oddanchatram wasnt a big deal.
but may be now traffic has increased and spoiling it.
I hope in few yrs, we have sufficent road infra for buses to do a 21/2 hr from mdu to plni.
Last time 2 yrs back porivate buses did via sempatti in 2/12 hrs. but it seemed rash for the narrow road in the route.
How many railway crossings in route? i remember atleast 2 of them. Now if trains in route increase post GC, may increase time if caught.

N.kumar September 9th, 2011, 01:09 PM Even then subbu, 2.5 hrs to palani from mdu or 4 hrs to coimbatore will be pipe dream.
and these will be once in a day express. passengers too will take enuf time.

Even now also Private operators covers the distance in 2.5 hrs. But their driving is too rash and you will not feel safe inside them. I always opt for a TNSTC.
We got 3 crossings in Palani-Oddanchatram section and one crossing after Oddancthram. In total Palani-DGL/Madurai buses need to cross 4 railway crossings. We didnt have any trains now. But we can expect them running soon. Track works are completed. Station works are going on in Palani, Oddanchatram, Sathirapatti, Reddiyar Chatram etc.
The only thing that can help the passengers on this section is the completion of GC of the DG-POY-PTJ line ...
SR should expediate the station works and they should try operating trains before thai poosam. This will ease some traffic in Palani-DGL and Palani-Madurai route.
Palani-Pollachi-Podanur/Palghat is really a tough job. In SR terms we may need another 3 yrs for seeing trains in this section. Works going on in POY-Palghat section. But the other two remains silent.
rsubbu.mdu September 9th, 2011, 02:38 PM Guys why is kumabakonam allowing TNSTC karaikudi on buses? atleast in side written kumbakonam? no other division allowing regions to do this.
Its not only KKDI, all kids of KUM are rebel ones. Trichy will put TNSTC - Trichy on the windshield and PDKT will put TNTSC-Pudikottai on its windshield. TNTSC-KUM will be there only on the the body side.
One doubt regarding Dolphin's pics,
I have seen a Bangalore - Kalpakkam SETC bus run by PDY deopt of SETC. Is this Bangalore-CMBT-Kalpakkam a new service or else its there for a long time ?
isham_9626 September 9th, 2011, 03:25 PM No subbu, they put as State transport - Trichy, State transport - Pudukkottai, ie Arasu Perundu - Trichy, Karaikudi, Pudukkottai
Reno Ruberts R September 9th, 2011, 03:56 PM The bus generally goes non-stop only between chennai and vellore ( they bypass sriperumpudhur, walaja and dont stop at kaveripattanam).
If they stop even in one bus station/stop NON STOP terminology will became meaningless one. If there is one or two stops they can try the name as BY PASS RIDER, SUPERFAST, NH EXPRESS.
NON STOP means the bus shouldn't anywhere (Expect for lunch/Tea)
If i am rite, first non stop bus called 1 to 1 was introduced by Kumbakonam division in Madurai to Ramanathapuram route.
Who introduced 1 to 1??? is it meaningful?
The bus start from 1st point move to 2nd point(destination) but won't stop there and return to 1st point (from where its started). is it so?
i feel 1 to 2 is suitable one..

The trouble started because of the wrong decision of aligning TRY under KMU. So, TRY was the first rebel :)
Whatever may be the history (CRC etc), TRY should have been the HQ for KUM, PDKT and KKDI. In fact, PDKT and KKDI were never linked to KUM or CRC in the past. There was no justification to bring them all into KUM fold.
So, even now, they can change the HQ from KUM to TRY to be better accessible from all corners of the division. Maybe KUM will stick TNSTC KUM on windshields and TNSTC Trichy on sides! :) Just kidding!!

you both forgot one. 8:30 p.m MARTHANDAM - COIMBATURE TSS from Nagercoil. the bus start from Marthandam but its hard to get seat from Nagercoil. its took 1:30 hrs (via-ervadi) upto Nellai from Nellai (10:15 p.m) its skip all places up to Ottacnchatram and reach Coimbature at 5:15 a.m (7 hours running time from nellai)
i travelled many in it. the driver make a avg of 75 kmph. i'm not sure about the return trip from Coimbature.
In Nagercoil - Tirunelveli - Madurai sector TN 74 N 1397 (week end special bus to Madurai) is the only one reached 110 kmph when a competition with another NGLs AC bus. As soon as it returned Madurai officals programmed the speed to 85 kmph.

we canot research actual meanings of the terminologies used as these are brought for making extra income and we can see all the busses(even dabba ones) with EXPRESS tags few years back.
Actually a person goes from one destination to another and so 1to1. they cannot keep names wrt trips made by the bus.

Also, none of the other TNSTC regions were ready to accept Kumbakonam as the divisional HQ, as Kumbakonam is the smallest of the other two (i am having doubt, pls correct me if i am wrong). Also, Kumbakonam was not even a district.
So only, the regions of TNSTC KMU are not displaying Arasu Perundhu Kumbakonam in their front glasses.
Now, TNSTC Kumbakonam is the largest among the Corporations in terms of fleet strength

We need not have seen all these if the DMK government had increased the fares directly in their ruling period before 2008, when all these tags were popularized.

The habit of those rebels is strictly condemnable and must be conveyed and forced to change. Doesnt matter with you are big city small city, not a dist, not connected so on.
all regions be it pudukottai or karaikudi or trichy are connected to districts under kumabakonam region one way or other.
Coimabtore doesnt run a separate coimbatore division under SR or bengaluru separately because its under SWR.
Tomorrow entire thing can be made one corporation. Rules are to follow.
Tmorrow kanchi, vellore(it already is) will be bigger than villupuram and they will rebel.
I am surprised and not one bit pleased with Raj reply. Thats not how he normally replies. There was a clear trichy bias in that
further to nonsense is fact that if one goes back when cholan was established and whether trichy was hq? wasnt trichy dist part of cholan then?
and where was the hq of cholan then?

KKDI should be under TNSTC-Madurai only as KKDI region is very close to Madurai than KUM or TRY. KKDI region starts from Thiruppuvanam itself which is just 24 KM from Madurai. In fact KKDI operates most of its buses from / throuch Madurai than from TRY or KUM. Long before, both KKDI and PDKT regions were with PRC and when the strength of PRC crossed 1000 buses (in 1983), PRC was bifurcated and a new Maurthupandiar transport corporation was formed covering KKDI and PDKT region. KKDI has a bus depot in Madurai since long. PDKT has to be with TNSTC-KUM as it is close to KUM region

But on that day also, bus was packed completely but mostly with intermediate passengers to Kundrakudi, Pillaiyarpatti, Tirupattur, Marudipatti, Singampunari, Kottampatti.
Palani - Karaiudi buses run mostly with intermediate passengers sparing few festive occasions in Palani, when even Tirupattur passengers will not be allowed to board KKDI bus in DGL. That's the prime reason why KKDI has allocated just 5 buses for Palani - Karaikudi/ Devakottai/ Sivagangai while Trichy region is almost dominating with so many Palani - Trichy buses though Trichy and KKDI are almost the same distance from DGL.

As Per Rules they have pasted the Villupurm, If the bus get full or not, it will never enter villupuram, it have stage only at Trichy, Madurai, If the bus if Full Packed At Thoothukudi it Skips Madurai, Trichy too.
Ramesh-NTM September 10th, 2011, 06:26 AM As Per Rules they have pasted the VillupurmCould you please explain me the rule in pasting the route stickers on buses, particularly to other territories or going beyond?

rsubbu.mdu September 10th, 2011, 06:49 AM Even Mdu has few rebel depot buses who dont want to showcase the name of their parent depot:
Saw one bus from Sattur depot which runs on the Thenkasi - Kovilpatti route. It had only Arasu - Perunthu Virudhunagar stuck on the front and rear windshield. I missed to note what was there on the body sides. Even the ticket which i have put here carries VNR name only. I asked the conductor why they have put VNR instead of MDU, he gave me one very bad stare and told, this bus belongs to VNR region depot and we will put VNR ony!

and you u say "in comparison to the present".. i wonder what you found.
dr_thapalathy September 10th, 2011, 07:00 AM TN-72N-1650 replaces My Yellow Beauty TN-72N-1180 on 333A proud to say built by TNSTC -Nellai Samathanapuram Unit, they are goin to add another bus as an additional to Chennai.
I like the stickerings in the front glass and the Vanakkam hands symbol in the door.
But the color scheme is not so good and attractive.
9/9/2011 Dinakaran (http://www0.dinakaran.com/District_detail_2011.asp?Nid=8217)

The news item has again brought to fore the problems faced by passengers in the newly introduced 12m UD buses in SETC.
Few glaring mistakes in the article:
- viking AL buses are of 10.8m length and not 10.7m
- article says that longer body has been built on the same chassis whereas new buses are on alltogether new chassis, i.e 12m
Bit srange to note that drivers are finding it difficult to drive 12m buses. 12m buses hav been adopted by Ke/Ka SRTC and even our SETC/TNSTC have 12m AC UD buses. With our four lanes and higher power 180hp engine...not sure what problems the crew are facing.

Nice to see that the pics of amma has been removed from the windshield glasses. What about the other division buses?

Ya, they can electrify the tracks upto Cuddalore atleast and try running EMU trains in Pondy - Villupuram and Cuddalore - Villupuram. Again, we must not depend on SR for that. Pondy - Cuddalore is unimaginable in this century.

ramesh_g September 10th, 2011, 10:24 AM TNSTC, Karaikudi in Devakottai - Palani. This is actually Karaikudi - Palani which goes till Devakottai for 1 of its trips. TN 63 N 1482 (seen in picture) and TN 63 N 1477 shares slots on alternative days
http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg847/scaled.php?server=847&filename=tn63n1482.jpg&res=medium
Ramesh
Ramesh actually ur database has been pretty old,,,I would like to give you some info on the particular karaikudi-palani buses. Now they are not sharing slots on alternate days..they have been split into two seperate service from last year as follows,
First bus starts at morning(5.40) as,KARAIKUDI-PALANI-KARAIKUDI then in the ev(3.40) it run as KARAIKUDI-TANJORE-KARAIKUDI.
Second bus starts at palani in mrng and run as PALANI-KARAIKUDI, then KARAIKUDI-PARAMAKUDI-KARAIKUDI then again in the eve KARAIKUDI-PALANI (halt).
And the missing trip of mrng 9.00 from karaikudi is replaced by another new route THONDI-KARAIKUDI-PALANI and PALANI(2.00)-KARAIKUDI-THONDI.
So now there are no sharing of slots and everyday you can see the same bus at same time and now there is no trip to devakottai execptthe thondi bus.
And one more info, you mentioned about a TNSTC SLM bus (SALEM-TIRUPATHUR), actually that particular bus was introduced by TNSTC KKDI and was running for past 5 years, only last year they have transferred it to salem for reason not known to me..you know that bus is from DHARMAPURI region. You can argue how can a DHARMAPURI region run on SALEM-TIRUCHY_tirupathur route where it does not have territory but the thing is that they belong to SALEM division.
DolphinsTuti September 10th, 2011, 10:33 AM An old bus TN-23-N-1773 of from Vellore Region (unable to guess the depot name) doing in Puducherry - Vellore route.

Mr.Ramesh these line are from Tamilnadu Motor Vehicles Rule 1989

Transport Authority shall be exhibited in a conspicuous place inside the vehicle covered by the permit and
adhered to and the fare table so exhibited shall indicate the stages on the routes fixed by the Transport
Authority and also the appropriate fare table according the stages.

This ur region, my region, how can a bus from another regions operate happenning in last two pages, is getting on my nerve.
Just the hell, unify it all i say like binai and subbu keep saying, showing no regional permission nonsense and routes be operated as it suits the logistics from whichever depot to wherever, whenever

Hi Superfast444,
The UD buses built by Prakash for SETC was inferior on no account. Its just the poor maintainance that made them running junks. Still there are few TNSTC divisions like MDU,CBE where the Prakash built buses are in a decent condition similar to a Rajahamsa bought during that period.
even other members will be able to add TNSTC division where UD's are maintained pretty decently. The only bad lot of UD's that we got was from JCBL which was the worst of all and even TNSTC regional depots like Pollachi which maintain their Chennai buses very well found it difficult and had to resort to lot of patch up work on their body parts.
Can you tell what wrong do you see in the following buses from Prakash which were introduced in 2006:
Cbe divn UD:

You should understand one thing, Binai's album has more of SETC UD buses @ Blr as his travel is mostly to Blr(outside KL) where he snaps those UD buses.(no offense meant Binai) and we all know the maintainance standards of SETC UD buses. So before coming to a conclusion, you should try to do a good research of looking at albums of various people covering various depots of SETC and divisons of TNSTC. If you have understood the UD maitainance standards so well, can you tell me the top three SETC depots that maintain their UD's well.
Actually Prakash will be scratching his head to have given SETC the UD buses as the negative publicity these running junks are giving them is very bad.
I think next thing you will say is that the fleet of Volvo's given to APSRTC buses was bad compared to KaSRTC. No wonder why!
I stop here.

Just 100 for MTC is bit shocking. That too, the 100 buses must be BS-IV. Dont no if BS IV will be procured. MTC needs for of them for the evergrowing sub-urbs.
The really amazing one is 473 buses for SETC. That is really good. The article says சொகுசு பேருந்து for SETC. So, will it be Ultra Delux?
I think Jaya will change the entire image of SETC within a year. She will replace all the Inter-state buses to a give good image of SETC.

True..
TNSTCs got many buses replaced in the past 5 yrs..
So their quota can be reduced.. Especially 586 for VPM and 593 for CBE கொஞ்சம் too much தான் என்று தோன்றுகிறது...

Just 100 for MTC is bit shocking. That too, the 100 buses must be BS-IV. Dont no if BS IV will be procured. MTC needs for of them for the evergrowing sub-urbs.
They HAVE to purchase BSIV for MTC (even for SETC). Non-BSIV buses cannot be registered in Chennai - Metro cities moved over to BSIV norms in October 2011 - post that period, the RTOs in those cities are not permitted to register vehicles not complying to BSIV norms.

SETC registers under TN01 as its headquarters is at:
State Express Transport Corportaion,
Head Office, Near Pallavan Transport House,
Pallavan Salai, Thiruvalluvar,
Chennai- 600002
So as explained by Binai, Chennai RTO's can't register non BSIV Buses.

Wow huge jackpot for TNSTC-CBE.:cheers:..,,definitely they'll change buses in Valparai areas and Nilgiris....and more number of town bus will be added...
and in moffusil routes, CBE-Pollachi, Metuppalayam,Palakkad,Tiruppur...but still thinking of the numbers...It'll be good if they add any new routes....lets see..what happens??? and any guesses of new routes?
DolphinsTuti September 10th, 2011, 05:43 PM :bash:this bus will be filled upto vilupuram even thiruvanamalai. y cant they run permanently
Sree you are right they can get time in Madurai, but in Trichy it will be a great horrible they will not allow other division to get their buses full, on that day of special that bus skipped trichy and went in bypass, asked the conductor he gave the details we will not be able to get time at trichy.
N.kumar September 10th, 2011, 05:56 PM Where is kongu? Ippa sandosama?
Huge huge for Vpm and cbe. So dhandapani has to take major share of bringing the feast to our eyes.
I hope SETC is fleet addition. Majority of existing UD buses can run for more after proper FC. Hope either they are not replaced or passed over to another TNSTC say kumbakonam or vpm to do there 300-400 km ud runs.
Mr.Nellai September 10th, 2011, 06:20 PM Shortcomings in TNSTC
Still there are many villages without any bus service
technical staffs hasn't been appointed nearly for the past 15 years
The toll gate charges accounts for 25 crores/month and this along with increase in fuel prices is a big burden to TNSTCs.
At-least the govt should come forward to accept the toll gate charges.
Mini-Bus operation in chennai which was initiated by the previous govt has to be sanctioned.

No there is no service to ooty or Kodai it is a ong pending one, atleast to mettupalyam we need a direct one many export companies from mettupalyam send their goods via Thoothukudi harbour so we need one service to mettupalayam and the palani service from Thoothukudi Mofussil Depot can be Extended up to Pollachi in Day time. so it can take after 9P.M. from Pollachi.
Ramesh-NTM September 10th, 2011, 07:06 PM Mr.Ramesh these line are from Tamilnadu Motor Vehicles Rule 1989
It shall be a condition of every stage carriage permit that a blue print of the route (indicating all theintermediate places also) for which the permit is issued, copy of fare table and time-table approved by the Transport Authority shall be exhibited in a conspicuous place inside the vehicle covered by the permit and adhered to and the fare table so exhibited shall indicate the stages on the routes fixed by the Transport
Authority and also the appropriate fare table according the stages.
Fore more details use this Link.
http://www.tn.gov.in/sta/tnmvr1989.PDF
"Express Service" means a service plying on route covering a distance of not less than 120 kilometres, the permit for which prescribes that on an average the stage carriage shall stop to pick up or set down passengers only once for every 25 kilometres of the total distance covered by its route, the starting and terminal places being excluded for this purpose.
Thanks Arun Sir for the details.
The above clauses are mostly broken by TNSTC's. We have 2 TNSTC, MDU buses from SIPCOT & Pudhur depots with PP Express tags when their 1 round trip (UP + DN) wouldn't be 120 kms. Break the Rules !!!:bash::bash::bash:
Thanks once again

Ramesh-NTM September 10th, 2011, 07:18 PM Ramesh actually ur database has been pretty old,,,I would like to give you some info on the particular karaikudi-palani buses.
Thanks for correcting me. This 2 PM bus from Palani was the one going till Devakottai earlier, now it is made to run till Thondi by working out new slots. BTW does the Thondi bus is operated by Karaikudi depot or any others?
Does the Devakottai - Palani buses share slots or they are also given individual runs similar to the KKDI - Palani buses?
Thanks
Ramesh

Reno,
Mdu has two other regions namely DGL and VNR also under its kitty. Mdu is serving districts of Mdu, Virudhunagar, Dinidigul and Theni. Apart from that Mdu city bus services is one major task. In comparison to other Divisions, this allotment is less.
and your question of Jnnurm, they only serve the Mdu city services. So taking them into consideration does not make any sense for other remaining areas served by Mdu division in the districts i have quoted.
Mr.Nellai September 10th, 2011, 07:48 PM ^^^^
If they pay the court dues for TNSTC -Nellai we can expect 50 + odd buses to return back to service in nellai, NGL and tuticorin. The same is the case with MDU.

Another article on the 48 seats problem in SETC.
- Passengers are finding it difficult to travel in the newly introduced 48 seater buses of SETC.
- This has lead to passengers preferring private buses instead of SETC.

Dinamalar is time again making the same mistake of saying that 48 seats have been fitted in the same size bus. Can't their reporters talk to the SETC guys to understand better that, the newly introduced buses are 12m ones. SETC has made a big blunder of introducing these 12m buses which were supposed to be SD as UD's....hope some corrective action is taken.

I think TNSTC_Erode is in peak time for the need of additional Depots.........
There is a long-term proposal for a new Bus depot in south (near Solar/lakkapuram)......... But inbetween, the Moolapatrai depot has been closed due private land owner problem...
So as a compensation for that, we need another depot along with Solar depot at Primary level....... And Chennimalai, Komarapalayam and Sivagiri depots are the need at Secondary level....
And as a developing City,, Erode initially needs an SETC Depot-cum-Bus stand ... It can be located along sathy Road near Chithode......

Apart from the places you told, MTC also needs to look for depots in Kovalam, Kelambakkam and Mahabalipuram. So, MTC needs atleast 6 more depots. I hope, fleet addition will be done after the two depots come into existence.
Additional depot at Nellai for SETC is not sure for what purpose, already Nagercoil, Shencottah, Tuti and Marthandam are handling South TN areas. Ya, you are right. SETC needs to look for depots in Ernakulam / Guruvayur and Bangalore also. I know that it is difficult to find lands in these two cities. But, depots in these two places will be a huge boon for SETC.
Arul Murugan September 11th, 2011, 04:54 AM MTC - 100/3421 = 2.91% new buses
SETC - 473/985 = 48.02%
VPM - 586/3139 = 18.66%
SLM - 361/1905 = 18.95%
CBE - 593/2799 = 21.18%
KUM - 438/3250 = 13.47%
MDU - 184/2250 = 8.17%
TIN - 265/1780 = 14.88%
I guess the old buses in Madurai and Kudanthai division may be less!! CBE/SLM/VPM gets fair deal for bus replacement.
CBE has 399 ghat route buses, so majority of buses may see replacement this time. And SLM may see replacement of town buses as mofusil buses are some what new.
SETC will undergo revolution with whooping replacement of 50% of buses just in one year.:)
Note: Above may include both replacement of old buses or fleet addition.
Arul Murugan September 11th, 2011, 05:00 AM 433+125 = 558crores for 3000 buses gives a figure of 18.6lakhs per bus! I don't think there would be any volvo or AC buses in this 3000 lot.
Also still we could not dig out the figures how much a TNSTC Mofusil bus or SETC UD or SETC SD or SETC AC or MTC low floor or MTC vestible buses cost.
If any one know cost of above buses, pls share.

IMHO, every division should have fleet around 1500-2000, so it can be divided like below
1. MTC Core City - 1500
2. MTC South - Kelambakkam, Tambraram, SRPD, Kovalam, Mahabs, Chengai etc., - 1500 (considering future)
3. MTC North - Thiruvallur, Avadi, Minjur, Ponneri etc., - 1500 (considering future)
4. Vellore - (Vellore, rest of Thiruvallur and Kanchi dt) ->1500
5. Villupuram - (VPM, Thiruvanamalai, Cuddalore dt) - >1500
6. Salem - (Krish, Dharmapuri, Salem dt) - nearly 1500
7. Erode - (Erode, Namakkal) - nearly 1500
9. Coimbatore - (Tiruppur, CBE, Nilagiri) - >1500
10. Trichy - (Ariyalur, Perambalur, Trichy, Karur) - >1500
11. Kumbakonam - (Thanjai, Nagai, Thiruvarur, Pudukottai - >1500
12. Madurai - (Madurai, Theni, Sivagangai, Dindigul) nearly 1500
13. Tirunelveli - (Kumari, Nellai, west part of Virudhunagar) nearly 1500
14. Tuticorin - (Tuticorin, Ramnad, east part of Virudhunagar) nearly 1500
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Route rationalism is needed before creating such more division. Now Villupuram division pokes its nose into Trichy-Chennai, Salem-Chennai, Hosur-Chennai operation, such competiveness needs to be thrashed. Sharing of workshop depots, spares can be made common...
Above 14 division may look weird, but IMHO this classification will help the hub cities to concentrate more on city and short mofusil routes effectively. TNSTC was more effective with more no. division compared to confined 5-6 division.

If they can create them as 2 depots, that would be sufficient to take care of Mahabalipuram buses.
Kovalam - ECR routes like PP19, PP19 Extn, 19G, 588, 599, T151 etc.
Kelambakkam - OMR routes like 21H, H21, 521, 519, 19B, 568, 568A, M5, 523, 523A etc.
AC Volvo buses would anyhow continue with their existing depots only.
Routes like M119, M119A coming via Velachery could be given to Velachery depot in addition to D70, 21L, M21, 589 (1 bus), 568B (1 bus), 23V, 1G to start with.
Chengalpattu, Sriperumpudur depots would be sufficient initially since buses to/ via Oragadam can be serviced by Tambaram or Sriperumpudur depots.
Members, this is my view with limited knowledge. Experts can fine tune this.
Thanks
Ramesh
Ramesh-NTM September 11th, 2011, 06:50 AM IMHO, every division should have fleet around 1500-2000, so it can be divided like below
1. MTC Core City - 1500
2. MTC South - Kelambakkam, Tambraram, SRPD, Kovalam, Mahabs, Chengai etc., - 1500 (considering future)
3. MTC North - Thiruvallur, Avadi, Minjur, Ponneri etc., - 1500 (considering future)
4. Vellore - (Vellore, rest of Thiruvallur and Kanchi dt) ->1500
5. Villupuram - (VPM, Thiruvanamalai, Cuddalore dt) - >1500
6. Salem - (Krish, Dharmapuri, Salem dt) - nearly 1500
7. Erode - (Erode, Namakkal) - nearly 1500
9. Coimbatore - (Tiruppur, CBE, Nilagiri) - >1500
10. Trichy - (Ariyalur, Perambalur, Trichy, Karur) - >1500
11. Kumbakonam - (Thanjai, Nagai, Thiruvarur, Pudukottai - >1500
12. Madurai - (Madurai, Theni, Sivagangai, Dindigul) nearly 1500
13. Tirunelveli - (Kumari, Nellai, west part of Virudhunagar) nearly 1500
14. Tuticorin - (Tuticorin, Ramnad, east part of Virudhunagar) nearly 1500Definitely people/ political parties would make issues since
regions like VNR, KKDI will vanish. Kanchi, Tiruvallur, Salem regions will either be losing out few depots/ split.
This would be feasible if this is made as complete change in system similar to 1997 when these regions/ divisions were formed taking away leaders names. After such 14 divisions formation, no division should be allowed to show up their region name like DGL, PDKT etc.
My dream is that even these 13 (leaving MTC, SETC) should be grouped as just TNSTC with 4 or 5 divisions ONLY FOR MANAGEMENT PURPOSES and not to display in their windshields. On the other hand, MDU city services should be split from mofussil services similar to MTC.
Thanks

Arul Murugan September 11th, 2011, 07:07 AM

* 520UD buses reached the stage of scrapping due to poor maintenance of buses by past gvt transport department. These buses don't have sufficient spares!
* 66 buses in above slots have stopped their operation and (will) be scrapped.
* 200 new coaches were ordered in 2010 by past gvt. But before election only 50% were delivered.
* New gvt has allotted 66 new UDs for SETC, 44 was delivered last month.
* 103crores allotted specially for SETC to procure spares for those 520UD buses
* But it is doubtful that these buses will be ready to cope up with the upcoming holiday crowds on pooja days and Diwali.

TNSTCs got many buses replaced in the past 5 yrs..
So their quota can be reduced.. Especially 586 for VPM and 593 for CBE கொஞ்சம் too much தான் என்று தோன்றுகிறது...
But, the quota of SETC must kept untouched..

11-Sep'11, Dinamalar (http://www.dinamalar.com/News_Detail.asp?Id=311077)

Another article on the 48 seats problem in SETC.
- Passengers are finding it difficult to travel in the newly introduced 48 seater buses of SETC.
- This has lead to passengers preferring private buses instead of SETC.
--------------------
Dinamalar is time again making the same mistake of saying that 48 seats have been fitted in the same size bus. Can't their reporters talk to the SETC guys to understand better that, the newly introduced buses are 12m ones. SETC has made a big blunder of introducing these 12m buses which were supposed to be SD as UD's....hope some corrective action is taken.

To my knowledge Nagercoil, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin dt comes under Tirunelveli division now, then how do you say it is not possible?
rsubbu.mdu September 11th, 2011, 01:33 PM Subbu Sir, there is a need for additional the depot which is in Nellai is very small now, most of the time the bus are parked out side under the depot or u can see SETC in Nellai Bypass Depot. u can see dhandapani sir pic below two bus standing below the bridge and two will be inside Bypass Depot of TNSTC Nellai.
Arun, thank you for the info on the ground reality, if such is the state, better they plan for a new spacious depot which will take the load from the current small depot. Current depot can be transferred to TIN divn.
Above 14 division may look weird, but IMHO this classification will help the hub cities to concentrate more on city and short mofusil routes effectively. TNSTC was more effective with more no. division compared to confined 5-6 division.
Arul,
Pl :ohno:. dont even mention these....only a single TNSTC is needed with just division names which will find place only in the round stickers on the bus where depot info is found.
I will give u one real time example. In Karur bus stand operation staff like ticket checkers, time keepers are there from three regions namely DGL(MDU), ERD(CBE) and TRY(KMU).....if we had one TNTSC this strength will be less. The same logic applies to route planning, depots.....long list goes on.
Did u note few things after 6 divisions came up of TNTSC. The body livery of KPM, VPM and Vellore have become the same. such things have happened with all divisions. So ideal way is to merge all and put people to manage this mammoth organization. Even SETC shd not exist, instead it shd be just the express/long distance wing of TNSTC.
My thoughts....thats it.
Subbu
Whether the Department note our comments?

Reno Ruberts R September 11th, 2011, 01:48 PM To my knowledge Nagercoil, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin dt comes under Tirunelveli division now, then how do you say it is not possible?
yes! Nagercoil Region is under Tirunelveli Division
If you merge NGL, Nellai with west VNR fleet strength of NGL will be more than other two
Before bifurcation of Kattaboman Transport Corporation from Nesamoni. Nagercoil was the headquarters for KTC. Nellai Region's Fleet strength is nearly 1000
(with Tirunelveli & Thoothukudi Dist). But kanyakumari alone have a fleet strength of 867). Tirunelveli Division is supposed to be Nagercoil Division all b'cause of one word
"நெல்லை எனது எல்கை குமரி எனக்கு தொல்லை"
kanyakumari dist is small but densly populated than tirunelveli
only a single TNSTC is needed with just division names which will find place only in the round stickers on the bus where depot info is found.
i think no need to write divison on the place of depot info b'cause already Division code is given no need to write division name
Kanyakumari Dist only have the govt buses. So they must given some important.
Here we dont have any private town bus operators.
kanyakumari dist is monopoly of TNSTC no private town buses. No local trains
TNSTC buses are the only source for transportion of kanyakumari dist people.
rsubbu.mdu September 11th, 2011, 02:35 PM 'Probe Nehru for loss in transport'
11 Sep 2011 , TheNewIE (http://expressbuzz.com/cities/chennai/probe-nehru-for-loss-in-transport/312760.html)
CHENNAI: The Left parties in the Assembly, demanded constitution of an inquiry commission against former transport minister KN Nehru on Saturday over alleged irregularities which had caused huge losses to the transport corporations.
In reply, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said, “My steps are always measured. I don’t act in haste. I will consult legal experts after taking into account what had happened and then decide on the action to be taken..But I assure the house one thing… this government will not allow the corrupt to go scot-free.”
Earlier, replying to the discussion on the demand for grants for his department, transport minister V Senthil Balaji charged that due to the mismanagement of his predecessor Nehru, the department had incurred huge losses, with the irregularities committed by the latter being compiled in two volumes. This would be made available to the house and the press as well. Balaji said that during the AIADMK regime between 1991-96, the department earned `142 crore profit, while they incurred a loss of `674 crores during the 1996-2001 DMK rule. Again, the corporations netted a gain of `61 crore during the 2001-2006 AIADMK regime, but once again, saw a loss of `1,905 crore during the previous DMK regime.
Nehru had bought 17 luxury cars for the corporations, keeping them for his personal use and allowed DMK leaders MK Alagiri, K Ponmudy, I Periyasamy, Arcot N Veerasamy and ex-deputy speaker VP Duraisamy to do the same. Nehru’s family used eight of these cars. Also, free bus passes had been issued to 540 family members of Nehru.

Does the Devakottai - Palani buses share slots or they are also given individual runs similar to the KKDI - Palani buses?
Thanks

The thondi bus is being operated by dvk depot and the other two DVK-palani buses still shares their slots on alternate days.KKDI depot will give its buses to DVK depot if it has overload and infact KKDI,DVK and TRPTR all three depots concentrates on runninng buses around karaikudi.

Mr.Nellai September 11th, 2011, 06:57 PM Additional depot at Nellai for SETC is not sure for what purpose, already Nagercoil, Shencottah, Tuti and Marthandam are handling South TN areas. Better SETC could have thought of putting one in Ramnad - Aranthangi area to take care of East coast districts areas. The other area missing a SETC depot is Cumbum - Bodi belt.
+ 1 one more point
Naninar nagendran took over SETC depot space and constructed his own Hotel (Laksmi Gayathri). So SETC depot space got reduced. It was all because of nainaar.

12-Sep-11, Dinamalar (http://www.dinamalar.com/News_Detail.asp?Id=311868)

News item highlights the problems faced by travelling public during monsoon.
- Sufficient tools and equipments not available at depots to set right the complaints reported by crew in buses.
- Parts taken from condenmed buses to fit into the running ones.
- During monsoon water seepage is happening in buses
- Apart from introducing new buses and getting commission, STC's should also concentrate on improving the condition of existing buses.
------------------------
Technicians have not been recruited by STC's in the last 10years. This is main reason for depots inability to handle the repair work of buses.
Hope the present governement sets right the issue off maintainance staff and maintainance infrastructure at depots.
dhandapanik September 12th, 2011, 06:38 AM Dhandapani,
I remember i had travelled in a palani-kodumudi bus some 10 yrs back. also did a kangeyam-palani trip. Are the palani kodumudi buses still running?
Niranjan,
these buses are still running. There is one Pollachi-Kodumudi bus operated by Kangeyam depot.
True..
TNSTCs got many buses replaced in the past 5 yrs..
So their quota can be reduced.. Especially 586 for VPM and 593 for CBE கொஞ்சம் too much தான் என்று தோன்றுகிறது...
But, the quota of SETC must kept untouched..
Why do you think CBE got too much? Only last year CBE got fair amount. These buses will help us in getting better connectivity and new buses in Tirupur city too. I want to CBE to add more City buses and replace the old dubbas running in Tirupur, Erode, CBE(Non JNNURM), MTP, Pollachi, Dharapuram areas.
Also hoping to see Premium buses in SETC. SETC should be back to its golden age..
They should also add good amount of Super deluxe buses built in CEC / Pallipalayam itself.
Where is kongu? Ippa sandosama?
Huge huge for Vpm and cbe. So dhandapani has to take major share of bringing the feast to our eyes.
I hope SETC is fleet addition. Majority of existing UD buses can run for more after proper FC. Hope either they are not replaced or passed over to another TNSTC say kumbakonam or vpm to do there 300-400 km ud runs.
Sure, i'll bring the feast once they start rolling it out. Looking out for more SS body city buses.
dhandapanik September 12th, 2011, 06:44 AM No there is no service to ooty or Kodai it is a ong pending one, atleast to mettupalyam we need a direct one many export companies from mettupalyam send their goods via Thoothukudi harbour so we need one service to mettupalayam and the palani service from Thoothukudi Mofussil Depot can be Extended up to Pollachi in Day time. so it can take after 9P.M. from Pollachi.
Yes. Nellai / MDU can extend some of their services to Pollachi. We need one daily bus to Thiruchendur, Rameshwaram, Tanjore areas.
+1..473 is huge..
Are they going to retire old buses..?
more importantly they should concentrate on maintenance of buses....adequate spare parts should be available.. Crew should have proper rest time...
Still we have some TN07(Old JJTC) registered buses running from MDU, NGL depots. We may not see them from next year onwards.
265 for Tirunelveli Division? Not enough each and everyone know the condition of Tirunelveli Division's town bus. 593 konjam over illa
i feel 184 is too much for him. they got plenty by Jnnurm.
you see they are replacing Mdu - Nellai BPR for every 3 month
JNNURM buses are running only in Madurai city area limit. MDU divn is not operating buses in Madurai city alone. MDU need more buses for DGL and VNR regions. Have you seen the city buses operated by DGL region in Theni, Palani areas?? They will give stiff competition to the old buses running in Nellai divn.
12,2011, Dinamalar (http://www.dinamalar.com/News_Detail.asp?Id=311525)

Following the spate of accidents involving the Omni buses and the two cases where the sleeper buses were burnt down to ashes, SG had asked IG Shilendra Babu to prepare a report on facilities that need to come up in Omni buses for people to escape unhurt in case of accidents. The report has been sent to SG.
---------------
Hope the bus code AIS: 052 brings in the needed safety features across buses.

After SETC did the ultimate thing of calling a SD a UD, now everyone has the right :bash:
thillai_selvan September 12th, 2011, 01:03 PM ^^ Seems the number has to be written in that area. But slightly it is missed.
