Has anyone got the pictures of Thisayanvilai to Chennai bus from TNSTC- Nellai?

I remember travelling in that bus long time ago and "Thisai Mara Paravai" was written on the front and back side of the bus.

It was an ordinary bus in those days and was the fastest. I have never seen any government undertaking bus overtaking this one.

Maybe it is converted to an Ultra Delux now?

choks321

My brothers will be uttering these words saying we can go in "Thisai Mara Paravai"... intially i heard like Thisayanvilai Paravai....Thisayanvilai to Chennai Yes "Thisai Mara Paravai" is now a UD ( He is one of the fastest UDs in TNSTC/TNV)..... And as said by Reno now it is a JCBL built one same yellow colour.........

Thanks for the pics Reno. But this was not the one I traveled. It was some series of Tn72. Now i am in the Uk since 6 years. I traveled may be 2001 i believe.

While traveling to chennai from tenkasi, i have seen this bus overtaking our SETC which was pretty fast too. Impressed by the speed I decided to travel atleast once in that bus and traveled to madurai from chennai later.

Sorry if this post is irrelevant. Today when I was going to thrivanmiyur to velachery. This bus which came in the opposite direction (in a wrong lane, the other lane is in a very bad shape and it is very often some buses uses the wrong lane), hit a motorist and two people died on the spot. People started the breaking the glasses of the buses and it was almost like a riot there. All the buses were blocked in this route by angry people for almost half n hour. Police intervened and then only the traffic was cleared. This incident happened in tharamani.

Hi Pritm/Arun,

I had missed, the 400nos are going to be from TML only. The following is the news item, based on which i had quoted the second hand purchase:

BMTC shifts to reverse gear, to procure used buses from KSRTC
Link: The Hindu (http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/Bangalore/article2428638.ece)

I wish this reverse shifting should not happen.
If it happens due to the delay in supply of buses by TM, then it will be the last order for TM from BMTC.
Remember they were been fined upto 28 crores by BMTC for delay in supply and quality issues for JNnurm order.

--
why two types of chassis 10.8m and 10.5m are used by TNSTC's. Any other specific reason apart from using them on less tough ghat sections.

The tender is asking for Hino engines. Does it want only AL to bid ?

The shorter ones may also be used in smaller cities.
The tender is for AL only - even if others bid they may not get as inline pump engines is called in tender.

Did a mini fanning session with the MIBT controller (un-official one), few private buses caught on the lens:

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-2b9AbFUB_Dg/TnRtBFvj4DI/AAAAAAAAJrs/OII0Rl-BCow/s576/DSC00583.JPG

.

I think this design was derived from Optare Versa.:bash::bash:

http://www.oxford-chiltern-bus-page.co.uk/upload%20121106/Optare%20Versa%2025%20ordered%20for%20SC%20osf%20091106%20mc.jpg

Actually, Those were built for using it as SD(Even tender is called for building SD). But these guys stickered it as UD.
..
Not only sticker replacement but ticket cost should also be revised

Sree,

Thanks for the photos of Vellore town buses, an area with almost no coverage in SSC bus thread. I was delighted to see that Vellore region has accepted the town bus livery of VPM division for its buses. Hope one day whole of TN is under one umbrella having one livery theme for each class of service.

I too thought the same when i saw the below info in the end of the tender document for signing the agreement. :)
Signed, Sealed and Delivered by the said M/s. ASHOK LEYLAND……………………………… (For the Supplier) In the presence of ……………………………………

Not only sticker replacement but ticket cost should also be revised
If they move these buses to SD routes with SD stickers, then automatically SD ticket charges will be collected.

Subbu,
Atleast same livery should be followed by different regions in the same division then we can think about liveries across divisions.

First let all TNSTC regions paste the division name alone in the stickers present in front windshield and the bodies.

If Someone is wondering How come a Chennai Bangalore bus is on ECR, thats starting / reaching from/to Depot/Kalpakkam from where SETC operates Kalpakkam - Bangalore. This must have been around 5 pm (if it was captured on Chennai - Pondy) or 630 am(if it was captured on Pondy-Chennai).

This service is there since late 90's this way as SD Video coach(The oldest SDs 6812/6814 pair were working on it). They introduced a new pair of UD (7216/7219) in August 2007 which would start at 4:30 pm at CMBT, run a service trip(in normal moffusil fare) and reach Kalpakkam by 6:45 pm. It would start at Kalpakkam by 7:30 pm and reach Bangalore by 4 am. On return it starts from Bangalore by 9:30 pm and reach Kalpakkam by 5:45 am and proceed to CMBT by 6:15 am reaching CMBT by 8:30 am.

Some nostalgia and happiness seeing the service which i had used ~ 4 years

The buses were maintained really well till early 2009 for SETC standards. When in 2009 they shifted out of majestic to Shanti Nagar, the CC depot had a new rule that no Chennai buses can be parked. So this bus which already had a 12 hour duty / day, was shunted back to Chennai giving only 4-5 hours "incidental" rest a day and in the process they broke one bus in the pair where it had an accident. The other bus was also ruined since it had no time for maintainence. From 2011 this service is being given some CC depot bus running on Chennai-Bangalore which reaches the depot at the time. That said, there is some serious mismanagement in Bangalore SETC office which makes a lot of these insane decisions.

This was taken in Jan 2010 when i started at CMBT at 4pm to Tenkasi . It was a superdelux bus of Tnstc Nellai. I think now it is replaced. This video shows most of the ulltra delux buses of tnstc madurai(nellai and nagerkoil). Not sure if all of them are still running.

SETC operates buses to Mysore from chennai only. Other than that i havent seen any SETC bus operating to Mysore. Others can clarify on this.

TNSTCs give good connectivity to mysore in terms of Normal/Express services from Coimbatore, Erode, Nilgiris and Salem districts.

+1. Thanks for reminding these operators. These are my childhood stars.

PRM Fivestar usually replaces the buses once in 2 yrs. PRM usually purchases buses from Sakthi Coach, Karur. PRM and SCP(from Erode) has same design for their coaches.

S.R.K, A palani based operator has presence in Palani-Dindigul and Dindigul-Theni district route.

S.R.K purchased the Coimbatore-Palani route from PRM fivestar long back. After selling this, PRM got 4 buses in Pollachi-Palakkad route and they are running with the name PRM and SCP Transports.

Amman and Gangadharan are from same owner. Thirumoorthy and Kamalam Transports are also from same owner.

We missed SRN, SST, Kalaimaghal etc.,

PRM, Jai, SRN, Sakthi Velavan, ABS are main operators in Coimbatore-Pollachi route. Few of the conductors and drivers with these private operators are now in TNSTC-Coimbatore.

See the fare pattern of SRS in Blr - Mdu sector, SRS seem to be having very dynamic pricing, exploiting every opportunity on hand. Do SG's have any say in putting a check on such exploitation. These things are very common in Blr - Hyd/Chennai route, but Blr - Mdu was a surprise:

There was a operator Kabilan from UDU operating between PLN - POY and later brought by some one and they extended to PLN- CBE.

BTW last permit to private operators were issued during previous ADMK regime. Some routes got extended. Few private operators stopped operating to villages. Three of our Town bus routes in pollachi got converted as Mofussil routes.

They did the same to SETC NGL depot buses. me too wondered

Many of these operators use ETMs now. :)

Some more to the list, PVT-2 NO,...Thangaraja.,Muthuraja,Jaisakthi,Saravana,NMS,PKM,Kadal pura,SPS,Raja(Srn).,RAJU'S(CBE TO PALANI),Vee Vee(special route it goes negamam)..and only one Tata bus in the route by ABT... and in MTP to pollachi...Varatharaja,sairam,SVT...

SRK has a huge fanbase in our college and it is still continuing.

BTW last permit to private operators were issued during previous ADMK regime. Some routes got extended. Few private operators stopped operating to villages. Three of our Town bus routes in pollachi got converted as Mofussil routes.

Thanks for that 12M info. :)

During our college days it was PVT and Jai...and during morning time, its a rally of Raju's, thangaraja,sps...a time gap of five min...travelled in these buses during morning time..:-)nice memories:-)

PVT is the one i hate in Coimbatore-Pollachi route. They are famous for their rash driving. My favourites are the new buses from TNSTC-Coimbatore with the new face. :)

You made me to think about my next fanning of Private buses in CBE-POY-Palani section. Let me try it out next time or during pooja holidays.

Some of the above got owner and name changed..
Coimbatore-Udumalai Kabilan became JaiSakthe i guess.
Coimbatore-Udumalai PRM Five Star became PKM.
Pollachi-Palani RBS became SST(SivaSelvi) now.
Pollachi-Palani of Kings became SST and it got extended to Coimbatore.

ABS(Coimbatore-Pollachi) used to have web cam(Which BMTC and MTC Volvos have) fitted some 3 yrs back. Im not sure whether they still have it or not.

PRM and Jai used to come back to back and they used add everything newly. When CD player was introduced PRM fitted it and it had "CD Capsule" written in the side glasses. That old bus was there with Viswadeepthi school now. :)

Looks like Rajahamsa AC bus did not do well in Blr - Mdu sector during its trials as per one of the KA coductors on a Rajahamsa. It was moved to Blr - Payyanur route. These days its not running there as well. Not sure about the fate of the Rajahamsa AC concept, whether KaSRTC is planning to take it foreward or not.

Pritm,

One question on this, how comfortable are our Mofussil drivers driving these lengthly buses into cities/towns where the busstands are deep inside like our Gandhipuram at Cbe. Last Sunday, one Rajahamsa (12m) was causing total mess in Simakkal (Mdu) where it has to take a very sharp U turn and ending up causing huge traffic pile up due to few iterations it has to do take that U turn. We also see that Marcos (11.9m) are not friendly vehicles for the co-motorists on the road in congested cities. Just my opinion.

Marcos are not creating much issues now in terms of driving. I havent seen any driver of Marco feeling hard to take U turn in Simmakkal area. Problems were there when it was introduced, but now it is ok. Vestibules are the real problem creators in the narrow roads of madurai.

CBE's gandhipuram round abouts are quite wider.

Any other routes where there is potential for 12M buses as this has seating capacity upto 65 seats comfortably in 3x2 layout with door in front over hang.

With the kind of packing TNSTCs do, even 70 seats are possible in a 12M bus. (I hope they are not reading this, though) I guess, TNSTC buses normally have 57+2 SC in 10.8M chassis - KeSRTC packs 50+2 in the same chassis.

KeSRTC 12M Super Expresses have 55 seats in 2x3 Layout, 45 in 2x2 layout. Five of the older 12M Super Expresses (TATA 1612 Chassis) have 60 seats in 2x3 layout.

KeSRTC's 12M Fast Passengers, which run on the CBE-Palakkad route have 60 seats, IIRC.

12M with 65 SC will increase the revenue for TNSTCs. Someone need to give them a suggestion. Even TNSTCs can go for a trial in few routes before actually using them.

In Fact, 12Ms can be used on any highway route - the BPRs of TNSTCs can be easily converted to 12Ms, since those buses would not be running through much narrow roads. Here, KeSRTC is converting even ghat route buses to 12M Super Expresses (Take the case of Pala-Bangalore, which goes via Thrissur, Nilambur, Gudalur, Gundlupet. Even regular 10.8M buses find the Vazhikadavu-Nadugani Ghat section tough to negotiate).

Not even SLFs, normal city buses and Mofussil buses of TNSTC-Madurai also has adv on side mirrors.

Excuse Me.. but wouldn't that be "Side Glasses" or "Window Panes".. I actually thought the original poster was talking of ads on the Rear View Mirrors!

same is the case from TNSTC-Coimbatore. They converted Munnar-Coimbatore bus to normal 10.8 Viking. We also got few of them running in Valparai-Pollachi route. Its really tough for the drivers to drive them in Valparai-Pollachi ghat route.

Excuse Me.. but wouldn't that be "Side Glasses" or "Window Panes".. I actually thought the original poster was talking of ads on the Rear View Mirrors!

TN38 N 1794 follows this pattern. Few of them following 60+2 is running in Coimbatore-Palakkad route also.

60+2?? Is it a regular 10.8 Viking? That bus would be having very tight seating then :(

If this assumption is correct, TNSTC might come up even with 75+2 in 12Ms :ohno:

Good piece of info. Do you have any idea about the reg no of that bus? Let me try to check that when i goto CBE next time.

There are about 10 such buses - the buses would have their fleet numbers in the RAE7xx-RAE8xx range. They are easy to identify - they would have a slanting front profile. Just confirmed that they are indeed 60 seater buses - seats 59 & 60 are in the first row. These buses were initially run on the Pathanamthitta-Pamba route during the Sabarimala season of 2009-2010. Later, they were shifted to Palakkad depot, and all of them run on Palakkad-CBE (Ukkadam) route.

Here are a few of them:

What route does the CBE-Munnar bus take? Is it Pollachi-Udumalpet-Marayur-Munnar? KeSRTC has been running 10.8M Vikings in the Munnar-Udumalpet route for quite some time. KeSRTC also runs regular Vikings on Munnar-Theni route. They run 12M buses on the Munnar-Adimaly-Kothamangalam route.

One of my old posts on this subject:

Guys,

Some info how this issue has some twists recently ...cross posting from IR Southern Zone fourm:

Hi Arul,

This whole affair on ban on Ads has gone this way...

On Aug7th Madras High court banned any advertisement on exterior portion of Public and Private buses. All TNSTC buses immediately removed even the ads on rear body portion of the buses.

Link to the Aug 7th News: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/chennai/Removes-ads-on-buses-says-HC/articleshow/4865068.cms

Later on 3rd Nov ,TN Govt. has requested time from HC to streamline the display of ads ....
Link to news :http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/chennai/Govt-to-amend-rules-to-streamline-ads-on-buses/articleshow/5191016.cms

Latest news is that ,on 24th Nov,HC has said that there can be no advertisements on the glass panes including the rear ones on any bus.Window panes on the top of the window can be used and the sheet metal portion of any part of the body can be used for advertisements...So STC's in TN can use the rear portion for ad's as done earlier. In the case of volvo's their body sides leaving aside the glass panes can be used for vinyl Ad's.If people feel that it's going to spoil the beauty ...then these Volvo's would bleed to death in another 1 year of resource crunch.

Link to the Nov 24th verdict :http://www.thehindu.com/2009/11/24/stories/2009112453350400.htm

I have added some more which has nearly and more than 100+ up and 100+ down service a day i.e high frequency.

That's a nice collection Arul and dhandapani.
Others can add if any left out.

KeSRTC's 12M Fast Passengers, which run on the CBE-Palakkad route have 60 seats, IIRC.

Binai, as KeSRC have more number of 12M how is the occupancy level in those buses, I assume that they are in Mofussil operation and not in Intercity.

BTW, are there any other prominent private players in KL using 12M buses apart from the one here.

Binai, as KeSRC have more number of 12M how is the occupancy level in those buses, I assume that they are in Mofussil operation and not in Intercity.

KeSRTC has a total of 85 12M buses - 30 Leylands and 55 Tatas. Out of the 30 Leylands, 10 are Fast Passengers running between Palakkad and Coimbatore, while the remaining 20 are Super Expresses running mainly in Intra-state routes. These Expresses have been returning mileage in the range of 3.9~4.5kmpl, given the heavy foot KeSRTC drivers have.

All the 55 TATAs are running as Super Expresses, and most of them are on Inter-state routes (including long routes like Kottarakkara-Kollur, Changanassery-Velankanni, etc).

Occupancy wise - these buses were used to replace older buses, so cannot really comment on patronage, since the services are established ones.

BTW, are there any other prominent private players in KL using 12M buses apart from the one here.

Dhandapani, thanks for your photos of Vestibule from TNSTC MDU.

Whole of Kumbakonam divn got Vestibules long back because of Nehru and almost all of them were TN45 registered. But the same guy didnt do anything for Trichy after this.

I agree that KMU division may have had KN Nehrus special attention, but dont agree that Trichy got Vestibules only because of him. Thats the same time Madurai and CBE got Vestibules and SLFs too and after all, Trichy deserved them just as MDU/CBE do.

I would not attribute everything that Trichy got only because of KN Nehru - since it is for the demand of the developing city. It is true that Trichy got good number of SLFas/Vestibules in 2008 but almost nothing after that.

Cheers,
Raj

Salem-Hyderabad again....

There are 6 buses daily from Salem to Hyderabad.

1. KPN Multi-Axle 07:00PM (from Kovai)
2. Kesineni Multi-Axle 07:00 (from Madurai??)
3. KPN Multi-Axle 07:35 (from Madurai)
4. Kesineni Multi-Axle 08:15 (from Cochin)
5. Kallada Multi-Axle 08:45 (from Cochin)
6. Kesineni Multi-Axle 09:15 (from Kovai)

So sleeper class bus is going to be 7th one!! Hope they introduce Trichy-Hyderabad bus service too.

When ever I check the availability in red bus, all the above 6 use to have many seats, but how KPN wants to add more bus?

2 months before I traveled in Kesineni Multi-axle volvo which comes from Cochin! but was indeed full though availability was showing in online... My travel was from Salem to Kurnool, but they charged me full fare to Hyderabad.. IMHO for me multi axle volvos are not convinient... same experience in Salem-Chennai KPN multi axle volvo.

But these buses are doing faster than Sabari express... Sabari which departs from CBE at 04:30PM reaches nearly 2:00PM next day at Hyderabad Deccan nearly 21hours!! But buses takes only 14.30-15:00hrs.... my bus didn't even take NH7 all the way... it went via Chittor, Cuddapah and joined NH7 at Kurnool. I guess it may be due to tax issues in Karnataka!!

But, the tender says "Ashok Leyland/Tata 222"/232" chassis". It does not say 222" AL and 232" TATA.

The tender only means to say that the body builder would have to build a chassis on "Ashok Leyland or TATA" chassis of 222/232" WB. It doesn't mean they have both, and the wheel bases are as mentioned.

I am not sure of this case, as it may be a problem more of driver.
Technically AL 12M's TCD is 1m less than TM LPO 1618, which is a big difference

This has to pass through the ghat section present in Sathy-Mysore route. Moreover it has more 2 laned highway.

Almost 95% of Nagercoil-Chennai route has got 4 laned highway. So this will make a huge difference in running time. Only prob is the traffic inside chennai city.

Remember there is no multiaxles from Kanyakumari via:Nagercoil because of Susindram and chenkatti Bridge

chennai to nagercoil is covered in 12 hrs ( 13-14 chennai -trivandrum

Nagercoil - chennai route is completely 4 laned (expect 19kms from Nagercoil) TNSTC's 3x2 2x2 UD do in 11:30 hours when fully packed
but Multi axles do in <9 hours. I'm sure Coimbature - Manglore route is not fully 4 laned

including long routes like Kottarakkara-Kollur, Changanassery-Velankanni, etc

Hi Dhandapani

Nagercoil - Trivandrum route have lot of turnings and narrow roads hence instead of that route can operate to Madurai Reno and Sathya can u pls suggest on this?
Hi... Chnavis.....
There is adequate buses from NGL - TVM for every 10 min... both TNSTC & KeSRTC buses ply between NGL - TVM from each end....
NGL - TVM route already have 12M buses from SETC.... recently introduced SETC SDs buses but in the name of UDs is 12M buses, these 12M buses run between BNG - TVM, BNG - MTM(Marthandam),CC - TVM, CC -MTM etc.... so turnings and narrow roads is not an issue..... And also there is reasonably good number of buses from NGL - MDU......
I suggest 12M buses can be used in places by TNSTC which has no frequent bus connectivity to important places..... and it can be used in rare routes like
1) Nagercoil - Karur - Salem
2) Kanyakumari - Hosur
3) Marthandam - Karur - Salem
4) Nagercoil - Salem - Hosur
5) Thisayanvillai - Salem - Hosur
6) Thoothukudi - Salem - Hosur
7) Tirunelveli - Karur - Salem - Hosur
so if only 1 or 2 buses given for this routes more passengers will benefited..... ( there might be many rare and needful routes to be covered by TNSTC..... i have mentioned which came in mind...):)

Offlate i am seeing lot of KA buses shifting loyalty from the regular K'giri Motel to the Mc'D+Krishna bhavan outlet in a HP bunk. Not a single SETC prefers to enter them.

I dont know, but KSRTC is seriously streamlining hotels. When i travelled HYD-BLR in August in clubclass, they had hotel stoppage(It was a very decent hotel alongside Reliance pump near Jadrachela) with time printed on the ticket. I think KSRTC is seriously into customer satisfaction, going by website upgrades, i wont be surprised if they have survey ratings for each trip like redbus.

May be they implemented the hotel thing for all KSRTC too.

Yes Sreekanth, the ticket of a clubclass itself states the time and the place where the bus will stop for refreshments. and the interiors of the clubclass are few steps ahead of any private operator run Volvo Multi axle. Even the sound system is too good. Only bad thing, AC will be switched ON just before departure and again switched off during the breaks. Being a premium service, they shd allow the crew to use few litres more for idling during breaks.

Only some of the airavats, corona sleeper and some times the rajahamsa buses stop at the krishna Inn in hosur-krishnagiri route. All the normal 3*2 buses from ksrtc and rajahamsa buses bound to trichy, kumbakonam, thanjavur and madurai stop at the other motels only.( especially the once called uthaya) In fact i have taken food from the motels in between hosur and krishnagiri. I would say the food is not very bad and charges also o.k considering the highways rate.( this is purely my opinion).

Which is the longest route of KeSRTC Kottarakara - Kollur or Trivandrum - Manglore?
I expect both are having running time of 20 hours

Kottarakkara-Kollur - its about 740-odd kms. Trivandrum-Mangalore is around 690kms. However, TVM-Mangalore is the longest super fast service.

These are all very much needed. There is absolutely no connecvitiy between Hosur - Salem belt and Nellai - Kanyakumari belt. The services need not be frequent. Oru naalaiku 3 velai iruntha pothum.. Dont know if any one TNSTC division expoits this route.

The Color combination and Livery is good...

If they would have avoided that orange livery, it would be awesome. But still its fine when compare to old buses.

Happy to see our SETC buses getting these colors.

I guess it may be due to tax issues in Karnataka!!

the bus takes Kuppam anantapur route:)

Natham - Tiruppur waiting for departure. The first bus in this route TN 57 N 1280 is converted into a city bus with SLF seats. Spotted that in Natham - Alagarkovil route. With so many SLF's being converted into mofussil ones, their cushion seats have been given to many recently converted city buses.

Its route board on back step top. Had advertisements on side glasses on top.
http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg37/scaled.php?server=37&filename=tn58n1948rb.jpg&res=medium

All long distance buses from Natham depot were given brand new buses, but Nagore bus is deprived out of even its dedicated bus. With conversion of TN 57 N 1313 into city bus, the only dedicated bus that served this route, now some bus is given daily to this route. I'm happy atleast they run some bus, if not dedicated to keep this route alive.

Seems Natham - Madurai - Pollachi (TN 72 N 1585) is being run to Trichy in the mornings without any proper timings and TNSTC, DGL is testing something. Heard from my father that he had seen it by 6:15 AM one day & thought it to be in Nagore route as a cut service. But I spotted it today by 5 AM towards Kottampatty trailing a DGL - KKDI private bus. Though couldn't see the route board, the KMS built guy resembling Sariage design of KaSRTC, makes me think that it would be the POY guy only. His departure to MIBT from Natham is 4:30 AM triggered an assurance to me.

TN 57 N 1715, a SLM built bus is today's runner (actually a bi-runner in Cricket terminology) for Natham - Karur (via DGL, Gujiliamparai). TN 57 N 1739, again a SLM built bus with Vedasandur depot marking on rear only was towards DGL. Its sticker impressions (stickers were removed) read PLNI - TRY. Seems to be recently transferred from Vedasandur depot to one of DGL depots.

Natham depot which earlier had dedicated buses route wise even to Madurai & Dindigul is functioning now in a very haphazard manner excluding the long distance buses (pls exclude Nagore, Theni, Karur routes). Everyday some bus is being run but it is not dedicated. Very sad to see such operations.

Pls forgive me for the post if it was lengthy or boring.

Thanks
Ramesh

In chennai they have sucessfully sent the Piaggo Ape to rural areas near Madurantakkam , Tindivanam, Kanchipuram, Arrakonam, marakanam at rock bottam prices. Similarly many staff buses is also being sent to rural areas as route buses or tourist buses.

Tata magic doing well in Chennai City and other Towns/Cities in TN. But Minibus segment is differ from this. Already they established in their own pocket, its very difficult to remove with the smaller one like Tata Magic/Ape. Minibus routes are different and they covering some corner villages too, the other cannot operate like minibus, thier target is to stage carriers only.

I find KPN Club class buses better compared to KSRTC's Club class buses ... Exterior is not attractive as KSRTC but Interior was very nice in KPN..And they stop in A2B near Krishnagiri usually ... which also has a Dhabba ... :)

Few corrections in my earlier post. TN 57 N 1739, again a SLM built bus with Vedasandur depot marking on rear only was towards DGL. Its sticker impressions (stickers were removed) read PLNI - TRY. Seems to be recently transferred from Vedasandur depot to one of DGL depots.TN 57 N 1739 is allocatted to Natham depot. Spotted in MDU route by 8:15 PM. Only Natham depot operates DGL region buses in Natham - MDU route. Earlier one or more of the 3 DGL city's depots were also operating very few services in this route, but slowly they were replaced by Natham depot buses itself.

Natham depot which earlier had dedicated buses route wise even to Madurai & Dindigul is functioning now in a very haphazard manner excluding the long distance buses (pls exclude Nagore, Theni, Karur routes). Even Theni route has been given a newbie. Spotted this also by 8:15 PM. I could see only Natham & Theni from its route stickers in rear windshield. Couldn't note its number or the route displayed since I was pillion riding with my friend in the adjacent road to bus stand. Most probably route displayed should be MDU since it does 2 trips via MDU and 1 more via DGL for halt purpose. This was earlier operated by one of MDU's mofussil depots, which was later transferred to Natham depot and DGL region gave 1 more late night slot towards Natham and an early morning slot of 4:40 AM from Natham but via Periyakulam, Batlagundu, DGL for the bus to reach depot.

Thanks

One of the famous lorry operator now joined the omni bus segment.. Kalyana Sundaram a Madurai based lorry operator is the latest to enter this segment. Normally TN operators will start their route towards chennai and then they move to Bangalore. But this operator started their first route towards bangalore from madurai.

Looks like this bus is from Leyland's Viking chassis.

TNSTC KUM directly competing with SETC in Chennai routes. I think the no of SETC services has come down in this route.

The Chennai ECR Puducherry SETC bus of Pondy depot, TN-01-N-9744.

This bus is highly welcomed by people in this route. It goes Non-Stop between the points.

There is also a Parveen bus doing in the same route. Both the buses go in 5 minutes difference. Recently Parveen replaced this bus with a Multi-Axle Benz service.
Also, Parveen has procured some new Isuzu buses. Seeing them in Thiruvanmyur daily.

Why don't TN guys procure SLF buses in this model? The back side of this bus looks exactly the same as that of Volvo B7RLE.

Just saw the budget speech of Puducherry for the year 2011...

Under that, in the transport section, it is said that PRTC will operate (additional) buses in the following (new) routes:

1.Puducherry - Bangalore
2.Puducherry - Mahe
3.Puducherry - Kollur :bash::bash:
4.Mahe - Kollur :bash:
5.Mahe - Mysore :bash:

:lol::lol:

They already are not operating buses in the following routes:

1. Puducherry - Bangalore (AC Volvo)
2. Puducherry - Cuddalore (No bus allocated since permit issued)
3. Puducherry - Tindivanam (No bus allocated since permit issued)
4. Puducherry - Kancheepuram (No bus allocated since permit issued)
5. Karaikal - Chennai (1 bus not operated, Also the AC Volvo is irregular)
6. Karaikal - Mahe (No bus allocated since permit issued for AC Volvo)
7. Karaikal - Tirupathy (No bus allocated since permit issued)
8. Karaikal - Tiruchirapalli (Old bus withdrawn, new bus yet to be allocated)
9. Mahe - Guruvayur (Old bus withdrawn, new bus yet to allocated)
:wallbash:

Apart from that, there are lot of local buses that are not being operated including the JnNURM buses. 24 JnNURM buses are yet to be delivered. They are not having funds to replace their old buses. All of the inter-city buses (except 4 newly allocated UDs) are more than 5 yrs old and some go even to 9 yrs old. Also all of the currently operational buses are irregular due to either bus problem or lack of drivers. :wallbash: In this case, they are operating buses in new routes. PRTC is surely the worst STU among all the STUs in India.

Looks like this bus is from Leyland's Viking chassis.

i know very well model started by BMTC with volvo front look but the front look face posted above pic bus face is started first by veera

Guru, Veera was NOT building Suvarna buses for BMTC during the period Suvarnas were initially introduced. The first private built Suvarna was surely from KMS - I can vouch for this fact. Veera bodies for Suvarna came much later.

This is a BMTC built Suvarna:
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-AwpaFiV3j7E/TilJbhiO2XI/AAAAAAAAACI/tt7ePMSIG3Q/s640/P1140328.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-MnaUaBgr1fA/TilJbrXv8yI/AAAAAAAAACI/kAxBi0z3tL8/s640/P1140659.JPG
This one is KMS built.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-DVhYMEsFGbk/TilJgRWdeoI/AAAAAAAAAC8/kZRjBJ0Zhd8/s640/P1200322.JPG
This is a Veera built Big10 (same body as Suvarna)

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-If3X1zRFUyY/TilJbhkMeuI/AAAAAAAAACI/8_-HLpM1rpc/s640/P1150696.JPG
This is a Prakash built Suvarna

If you take a look at the images, you'll see the differences in design - very subtle changes, but it goes to show the expertise each body builder has.

During the time the Suvarnas were brought, Veera and Prakash were building Parisara Vahinis for BMTC (the buses based on the P5000 design). KMS was the first private body manufacturer to build Suvarnas for BMTC. Veera came later and Prakash came much later.

Just got this news clarified from a driver of PRTC.
He told that, a single service will start to Bangalore on a evening, with Destination board as Kollur. From Kollur, that bus will go to Mahe via Mysore. From Mahe, the same bus will come to Pondy via Coimbatore. So, it is like a circular route. All the sections are overnight journey, except Bangalore - Kollur.

He also told that, the proposals for procurement of new buses for PRTC will be cleared after the local body elections and the tenders will be put up immediately. All the buses are being replaced. The first priority is to replace the bus to Bangalore with UD as it is a prime route. Immediately, Karaikal - Mahe and Karaikal - Tirupathi routes will get an UD. These are the top priorities. Also, recruitment for vacancies in PRTC will also start.

Hi friends,
as you all know, that MTC added 10 Volvos bit later than the original batch of 90 and increased the fleet strength of Volvo to 100. Actually, those 10 Volvos were allocated for PRTC. Since, PRTC rejected them, as they dont have sufficient funds and technicians to maintain them, MTC took those 10 Volvos citing demand for Volvos in Chennai. Now, as TNSTC VPM was operating 10 Volvos in T.Nagar - Kancheepuram route, MTC replaced few of them, and those operated by TNSTC VPM were allocated to Chennai - Tiruchi route.

Did not understand this. So PRTC is going to run a Pondy-Bangalore-Kollur service. The bus would run Kollur-Mahe, and later Mahe-Pondicherry. Am I understanding this correctly?

But why would a Kollur-Mahe bus go via Mysore?? The bus can directly run via Mangalore-Kasaragod-Kannur-Thalassery.

A Bangalore-Kannur-Mahe route will be a run-away hit, but sadly PRTC is not thinking of it.

Immediately, Karaikal - Mahe and Karaikal - Tirupathi routes will get an UD.

Is Karaikal-Mahe operational?

Pritm/Binai,

Why is Corona powering their sleeper buses with just 180hp engines. Is it sufficient to just run with 140hp (assuming 30-40hp gets into running AC) for these long distance sleeper buses. Not sure how these Majetik buses navigate their way thro the ghats to M'lore with not so powerful engine...
Your expert opinion and info you have on these Corona series buses performance and how operators are feeling about them ...

Corona comes with a 160hp engine, not 180hp as you mentioned. The AC takes about 37hp (according to a friend). However, while traveling in the Corona, the bus was able to clear the Thoppur ghats comfortably - it certainly is underpowered, but I guess the gearing is perfect.

Your expert opinion and info you have on these Corona series buses performance and how operators are feeling about them ...

To my knowledge they run a 32kW AC compressor which translates into some 40 hp. Barring this as the engine is rear mounted other peripherals like cooling system with RFD(Remote Fan Drive) also take a larger power. So the Bhp at wheels could be around 125 to 130 hp. Though the number seems to be a smaller one this may have a better gradeability as the Unladen weight of the coach may be less (though I dont have numbers). Also the difference in time between this and a higher powered coach will be obvious only for a higher trip distance of 800 to 900 kms. Less than that the difference may not be that higher - may be to an extent of 20 to 25 min only.

One reason why they are sticking to lower power engines is, higher power they go, higher cost they incurr not only with respect to engine but also with respect to higher torque gear box, high capacity cooling systems etc. As you are aware Corona sources all its major aggregates this obviously pushes the cost of coach and so they stick to lower spec to have better operating economics with their competition.

"SETC to run Madurai-Gundalpet." Good Humour !!!

Already we've buses of KSRTC from coimbatore as well as from SETC. Wat i mean is, SETC is loosing passengers to KSRTC for thier comfort, Tidiness, polite crews members, online booking etc, even though their fares are high.

So its clear where improvments is needed badly.

I don't say we need Volvo's or merc's as like KSRTC.NO, earlier SETC had AIRBUS with 36 seats, similar kind of bus with good maintenance will do

I've seen many ppl from central and northern part of india wonder about TN buses earlier. As a Fan of thiruvalluvar, i'd like to see the OLD GLORIES to be back and AGAIN rule the entire sourthern india.
