Routes that are more than 300KM will be transferred from TNSTCs to SETC.:bash: Worst decision.

Because of the above change Number of routes in SETC will get increased to 1761 from 905. So new depots for SETC will be created in SriRangam, Theni, DGL, Karaikudi, Karur, Erode and Hosur. Looks like a big boost to SETC.

25 new depots will be established in Chennai, VPM, Salem, CBE, Kumbakonam, Madurai and Nellai.

It is a good move by amma. So, TNSTCs still can operate buses to Chennai. This will eliminate some STUs that peep into others routes, like TNSTC VPM (Chennai to Tiruchi and Salem) and TNSTC KMU ( Madurai - Chennai specials). This will take a long time to implement. I think SETC needs a minimum of 2500 buses to operate. It needs a big investment. Wont be possible in 4 years i hope.

When our MLA became transport minister 135V route was "properly monitored" by officials and he was a regular visitor in 2001 - 2006. After power changed, scenes changed and everyone slowly took this guy out of their options for Chennai travel. Only when DGL region pitched in, it made success stories that a small town like Natham was able to fill in 3 Chennai buses (3*2 seater) during festive occasions indirectly helping the cursed Kottampatty also.:cheers:

Unlike TNSTC's, SETC will not be able to arrange additional buses if necessary & there are so many constraints with SETC. Yes this is a good initiative. Whether there is demand or not individual transport corp. are keep on adding buses in long distance routes. These are nothing but combination of short distance routes. One classic example is Jayamkondam - Kumili route :ohno: Is anybody going to travel from Jayamkondam to Kumili or Theni or Cumbum? Even for Dindigul you will not find passengers from Jayamkondam. 90% will get down at Tollgate and Trichy Chathiram B.S and remaining 10% will get down at Trichy central B.S. Another route is Thuraiyur - Tirunelveli. Members can add other useless routes

Last time when i visited Kovilpatti...saw 2 TNSTC TNV -towards COIMBATORE followed by 2 SETC to Coimbatore and found hardly 5 to 10 Passengers in all four buses
I saw this around 9.30 to 10.30 AM. All were coming from TNV...why so many services for such long distance during day time. SETC taking over 300 + KM will make them to think for optimizing the service.

. I leave it to your imagination for festive & long week ends travel. .

That's the reason SETC Depot has been increased ......You will see SETC depots are flooded around TNV/Nagercoil whereas East and West of madurai were districts were ignored and Madurai depot was forced to cover many districts like DGL/RAMNAD/Sivagangai/Theni. Now 3 Depots are anounced for these 4 districts will address for sure the concerns raised by you.

TN 72 N 1449 belongs to Kanyakumari Depot. Presently running in Kanyakumari - Periyakulam route. I guess you must clicked around 9 AM

which bus is running in Nagercoil - Kodaikanal route.
There're two service in this route
(at NGL)
0600 hrs- TN 74 N 1399 is scheduled for this service but some other guy is running now.
2130 hrs - TN 74 N 1391

DGL operate one only service in this route

For your information Nager coil is the capital of kanyakumari District.... And i am also not agree that all the district HQ will be connected by volvo service.. In my view the following cities been connected with volvo service

Tirupur( doubt)
Hosur (covers vellore, dhramapuri...)
Banglore.

North:
I dont think they will introduce volvo service to the district HQ's which are 5 hrs journey from chennai..because they not even have the SETC service...

It is a pity that our government is not having a standard policy regarding number of TNSTCs, its jurisdiction etc. They kept on birfurcating, trifurcating and then they did amalgamation of various TNSTCs. Again they have started bifurcation. Due to this individual TNSTCs are not thinking about creating facilities like good bus stands, bus shelters etc. Tamilnadu is the only south indian state where govt. transport corp. dont own any bus stands (exception is MTC). Before TTC had its own bus stands but now no more. Providing buses alone is not sufficient. Good facilities for passengers is also a must

Transport corp run busstands have a unique problem as seen in KL. Pvt buses and KeSRTC buses have separate bus stations and this leads to splitting of buses to the same destination in two locations thereby affecting the public and any new comer will not know which bus (pvt or govt) has high frequency on any route. Even the bus stand in Ooty does not permit pvt buses to operate from it premises.

When they have mentioned the no. clearly in press release, i guess buses are already identified and transfering them from TNSTC to SETC should be under progress!!

It will be easy to identify these buses...

1. their running time would be more than 7hrs
2. covering distance in one way would be 300KM+

considering this, I guess TNSTC-SA/DPJ would be loosing around 80-90 buses !! which includes zero SD/Deluxe, 15 UD buses and around 65 to 75 3*2 seat buses (22 of them are in Salem-Chennai sector and remaining are in routes like Salem-Tirupathi, Hosur-Palani/Madurai/Coimbatore, Chennai buses from Omalur, Tharamangalam, Tiruchengodu, Namakkal etc.,).

My only concern is that these 3*2 buses should be converted to 2*2 SD buses and charges can be 10-15% higher than present 3*2 express charges.. otherwise no point in transferring them from TNSTC to SETC.

DGL also getting a Depot :applause:I beg to differ. These depots are just for maintaining lot of DGL & KKDI region buses that would be moved to SETC. DGL depot would handle DGL - Chennai, Oddanchatram - Chennai routes of DGL region and probably Kodaikanal - Chennai, Palani - Chennai, Vedasandur - Chennai routes of SETC would be handed over to this depot. Theni depot would handle existing TNSTC, SETC services to Theni district. KKDI depot would handle Sivaganga, Ramnad districts KKDI region buses in addition to Chennai - Yervadi, Salem - Rameswaram buses of SETC. The ones that have chances to be brought under more than one depot are services from Chennai to Periyakulam, Batlagundu, Natham, Thuvarankurichi, Pudukottai & Karur districts' destinations.

It is a usual attitude that the crew would like the bus to get filled up at source station itself and hence the city holding the depot would gain priority over the current town which is the original source/ destination. If options are available to bypass the town with a 4 lane, will SETC hesitate to go out of the scheduled state highway or 2 lane NH? SETC has time keepers only at prominent bus stands and this route diversion by crew for want to their comfort or patronage cannot be addressed at all. Natham bus has to come from Madurai or DGL depot and these guys would be happy to forget us if they get filled in at MDU or DGL itself, don't they? If not on normal days this will definitely happen on usual week ends & festive times. At such times, what does SETC have for left out towns like Natham, Thuvarankurichi etc.? What is their guarantee that such options wouldn't be exercised by the crew or, what are their check points & plans to address them if it happens? NOTHING.:bash::bash::bash:

Once in 2008 I reserved in 135V from Natham - Chennai paying the full fare from MDU - Chennai. I went to MIBT just to reserve this ticket (paying MDU - Chennai fare). I was told that I can board the bus only @ MIBT and not at Natham. The clerk said that at times this bus will go via NH skipping Natham (usually it goes via NH only is another story) or if there is more than one person, anyone can come & board this bus @ MIBT with the ticket whereas the other persons can board at Natham after keeping the crew informed at MIBT itself. After paying entire MDU - Chennai fare, why these many conditions are being imposed on me? The moment Natham depot stepped in, though we run behind the bus for want of seats, we are feeling better compared to SETC. We can get immediate replies from TNSTC at Natham or go to the depot inquiring about the bus in case of delays or at festive times which is not possible with the வரும் ஆனா வராது SETC guy from MDU depot. It is even more pitiful for Thuvarankurichi which (wa)is having 2 services daily from its own depot.

Also every depot of TNSTC allots its newbies to long distance route, then keeps downgrading them to the next prominent route and this goes on till city bus before scrapping or converting it as utility vehicle. Does SETC have this option to maintain the premium routes with good buses? TNSTC's can enter every city when operated as special in lean direction when going from/ returning to its base apart from the usual lean days in regular buses. These are points where SETC loses to TNSTC. Finally I say the cities that are going to have depot can definitely rejoice whereas we are definitely losers.:down:

Arul sir may be your point is right.If govt already planned to shift routes of Tnstc's to SETC .Why they not order to build new SD buses instead of 3*2 seater from all Tnstc Body building units? Because SETC will operate Above 300kms routes so they need new buses at least 50% new bus 50% old buses from Tnstc.If 800+ old buses transfer from TNSTC to SETC they will spent more amount to maintain those buses.We will wait and see :)

When I heard that TNSTC-Kumbakonam is going to be bifurcated, I thought they are going to form TNSTC - Karaikudi with TNSTC-Pudokkottai also under its control, thus reactivating old Madudhupandiar Transport corp. in new name. Instead they are separating TNSTC - Trichy and naming it as TNSTC - Srirangam, jalra for amma.
TNSTC-KMU should be split into 3. (ref my prev post).
TNSTC-Trichy should be restored back. TNSTC-Karaikudi should be restored back(old maruthupandiyar)..

Tirupur already have one chennai and thirupathi service. Ramnad has one Bangalore service. Booking is allowed for Ramnad-Chennai in Rameshwaram-Chennai bus. Check this post

From Tirupur:
Tirupur-Tirupathi is operated by SETC's Salem depot.
Tirupur-Chennai is operaed by SETC.. We have one bus at 9.00 PM. I guess it is operated by CBE depot.
Tirupur-Bangalore connectivity is provided by Pollachi-Bangalore route.

From Ramnad:
We have one Ramnad-Bangalore bus.. It is operated by Madurai depot.. Starts from Ramnad at 6.30 PM

Pollachi should also get one Volvo. This can run via Udumalpet, Chennai. Our guys can think of providing connecting service to Munnar from Udumalai. Following are the services operated by various operators in Pollachi-Chennai route.
1. Two UDs from TNSTC-Coimbatore. TTC stopped its two buses running in Pollachi-Chennai route few years back.
2. 1 AC from ABT
3. 1 AC from ARC
4. From KPN: 1 Multi Axle, 1 Non AC, 1 AC Sleeper, 1 AC SS.
5. 1 AC Sleeper from SRM.
6. 1/2 services from Joy travels.

Ooty, Karur, Tuty and Nagai are four new regions.

Ooty will be under TNSTC-Coimbatore. Already we had this as TNSTC-CBE Div-3 and later as Ooty region. After few years they merged Ooty region with Coimbatore region. Still 90% of the ooty buses are registered in TN43. This is just a revival.
Karur will be under new TNSTC-SriRangam along with Trichy region(Sri Rangam)
Tuty will be under TNSTC-Nellai. Nellai will have three regions. Depots like Tuty Nagar, Tuty Puranagar, Chendur, Kovilpatti, Vilathikulam will come under this region.
Nagai will be under TNTC-Kumbakonam.

As of now TNSTC-Kumbakonam is the largest division in terms of Fleet numbers. Once Kum and VPM are splitted, CBE will be the largest division.

This livery change really looks good. Marcos of CBE are really bad. Less than 2 yrs, it started showing its original face. Worst build quality. TNSTC-Madurai is trying hard to maintain their marcos..

SETC should add more 2X2(Be it Semi or Super or Ultra deluxe) buses for long distance routes. Above all they should maintain their buses properly and timings should be followed perfectly. All their buses should come under online reservation(Counter+Eticketing).

Still TNSTCs should be allowed to operate 3X2 buses in some important routes. This will help us in getting some alternatives.

Moreover SETC will concentrate more on connecting either Chennai/Bangalore. What will happen to the important connectivity provided by TNSTCs to Tier-2 cities from other parts of the state?

Offcourse stickering of via routes is very well followed in TNSTC-Coimbatore city buses. TNSTC-Madurai tried to sticker the routes in new refurbished buses.. Very next day refurbished bus allotted to R.No 48A(Stickering is completely done) is running in different routes like 48Cut, 48FS, 48 etc.,

friends happen to see AC bus from Chennai to Nagercoil/Tirunelveli (i guess)not sure it belongs to whether SETC/TNSTC, surprisingly it looks clean from the exterior.

Most of the TNSTC going to miss its major collection routes.TNSTC NELLAI and NGL going to miss lot.

Already these three divisions will be getting 500+ buses in previous budget allocation. Whether we will get all old city buses replaced with new buses?

Apart from the buses(along with route transfer) which SETC will get from TNSTCs, Whether 299+473 buses enough for SETC to run all these routes?

Why do u need AC bus to go to ooty??? Having lived there for 20 year I tell u take a non ac bus.. It is an awesome feeling when the breeze changes from hot to cold as u cross mettupalayam and one can experience this only in a normal bus with open windows... Trust me.. It is an experience..!!!!!!

Same Sir which i asked previously to You.More than 75% people using these services which was mentioned by us.Bringing back its glory means in maintenance and speed not in dominating.At that time TTC dominated there is no much crowd but now its not possible because single handly SETC cant handle all cities, towns routes.When its hit the road many many people will suffer.

Google is showing 3 routes for Tirunelveli - Tiruchirappalli. Shortest route is 290 Km via Kovilpatti, Virudhunagar, Madurai bypass and Melur. This is the route TNSTC buses are operating. 303 Km is via Ettayapuram, Aruppukkottai.

Why do u need AC bus to go to ooty??? Having lived there for 20 year I tell u take a non ac bus.. It is an awesome feeling when the breeze changes from hot to cold as u cross mettupalayam and one can experience this only in a normal bus with open windows... Trust me.. It is an experience..!!!!!!

Dear Saha, please don't think like that. We forumers really welcome your vintage photos. Infact, some of us are youngsters here and have not even seen these type of buses.

Today I sighted a Ex-TTC guy with letters showing "Viraivu pokuvarathu kazhagam" in its front windshield. Wanted to click him but since he was choked in traffic and also because of some other reasons, I was not able to make it up.

And another thing, today's buses may become tomorrow's history. :)

Do any one knows the count of SD/Delux buses with non-SETC corporations??

with this figure we can come to know how 900+ SETC fleed it going to be 1700+

When they have mentioned the no. clearly in press release, i guess buses are already identified and transfering them from TNSTC to SETC should be under progress!!

It will be easy to identify these buses...

1. their running time would be more than 7hrs
2. covering distance in one way would be 300KM+

considering this, I guess TNSTC-SA/DPJ would be loosing around 80-90 buses !! which includes zero SD/Deluxe, 15 UD buses and around 65 to 75 3*2 seat buses (22 of them are in Salem-Chennai sector and remaining are in routes like Salem-Tirupathi, Hosur-Palani/Madurai/Coimbatore, Chennai buses from Omalur, Tharamangalam, Tiruchengodu, Namakkal etc.,).

My only concern is that these 3*2 buses should be converted to 2*2 SD buses and charges can be 10-15% higher than present 3*2 express charges.. otherwise no point in transferring them from TNSTC to SETC.


I think that as usual the Chennai routes will be given an exemption, as it will be always crowded.

Tirupur already have one chennai and thirupathi service. Ramnad has one Bangalore service. Booking is allowed for Ramnad-Chennai in Rameshwaram-Chennai bus. Check this post


Pollachi should also get one Volvo. This can run via Udumalpet, Chennai. Our guys can think of providing connecting service to Munnar from Udumalai. Following are the services operated by various operators in Pollachi-Chennai route.
1. Two UDs from TNSTC-Coimbatore. TTC stopped its two buses running in Pollachi-Chennai route few years back.
2. 1 AC from ABT
3. 1 AC from ARC
4. From KPN: 1 Multi Axle, 1 Non AC, 1 AC Sleeper, 1 AC SS.
5. 1 AC Sleeper from SRM.
6. 1/2 services from Joy travels.

Tiruvarur has two Tiruvarur-Chennai UD service.

As per the GOVT statement if all the long routes more than 300 km will be taken over by SETC form TNSTC then which are the routes that are going to lose by various TNSTCs apart from chennai routes.?

Thank god, TNSTC SLM and VPM will retain their Bangalore routes.
Atleast 1 destination acting as a cash cow will be still with them.
TNSTC CBE will be losing its Karnataka (Bangalore) routes.

Cheran's TN37 N 025X to 05XX were of this design. Two boards were on the top,glasses in the sides. But city buses didn't had glasses in the sides. Unlike this single board.
They all came with standardised paint scheme, Unlike the present std paint, THEY were BEAUTIES...

The CEC built TN38 registered buses right?

Google is showing 3 routes for Tirunelveli - Tiruchirappalli. Shortest route is 290 Km via Kovilpatti, Virudhunagar, Madurai bypass and Melur. This is the route TNSTC buses are operating. 303 Km is via Ettayapuram, Aruppukkottai.

NGL - DGL is around 290 so it wont.

I had doubt in these two route when i'm preparing the list. Google is showing with Bypassing Madurai. I expect both will come around 300 km if we consider Madurai BS- some body correct if i'm wrong.

He is not erstwhile but a current mofussil guy in MIBT - Natham - Sirugudi - Kottampatty - Singampunari - Piranmalai. His sibling 1004 is also in MIBT - Natham - Sendurai - Thuvarankurichi/ PillaiyarNatham from pudur/ sipcot depot. These 1 or 2 guys are the ONLY mofussil ones operated by Pudur depot as heard from the crew few years back.

Apart from these 2, we had 4 more MDU region buses which are no more with MDU currently.

2 were transferred to VNR region during bifurcation.
Natham - Theni route along with the bus was transferred to Natham depot.
1 Melur depot guy in Sivaganga - Melur - Natham - DGL is seen no more nowadays. However, Melur is operating 1 or 2 city bus services to Natham.

KPN is the only service to ooty.. The best way is take train or bus to Erode or Coimbatore.. Ample no of buses from both the places. Since it is peak season now CBE will be better option as there is a regulated Q system and one will surely get a seat..

Anytime i would recommend Erode route for going to ooty, Because Coimbatore bus stand will have a thirupathi queue for boarding ooty bus. Else go from Salem by knowing the time of Salem ooty bus.

I guess, only Dt. HQ to major destinations and some other inter state routes will be transfered to SETC including fleet as same 3 * 2 seating presently ( In future according to govt. support by fund, then only SETC can survive )

So, there is no chance of operating 2 * 2 seated buses, the same scenerio happened in previous JJ regime when JJTC was formed, they transfered all long distance inter state buses to JJTC and they were operated as 3 * 2 seated buses only.

So, I guess, only major routes will be transfered not all routes beyond 300 kms which are b/w inter dt. routes.

Also, there is no chance of forming new depots to SETC by allocating land and constructing required infrastructure, for that and all there is no surplus fund with SETC, only chance is they will transfer existing depots under other TNSTC's to SETC.

For eg. think if there is a chance to create a new depot in Erode & Tirupur city, so my guess is they will transfer existing some of depots beloging to other tnstc's like route tr.

Thillai all TNSTC will have Chennai service during night time, they wont withdraw.

TNSTC - Kumbakonam is lucky. Kumbakonam - Chennai via Vikravandi is less than 300 KM. So I think TNSTC-Kumbakonam will continue to operate in this prime route. Chennai - Mayiladuthurai via Pondy, Cuddalore is also less than 300 KM

Offcourse stickering of via routes is very well followed in TNSTC-Coimbatore city buses. TNSTC-Madurai tried to sticker the routes in new refurbished buses.. Very next day refurbished bus allotted to R.No 48A(Stickering is completely done) is running in different routes like 48Cut, 48FS, 48 etc.,

Every one wish the same, but what's the fund position of SETC, it is very very sick condition in all aspects and don't know how the present SG going to restore this corporation, without allocating a special fund to this SETC there is no chance of forming new depots.

I expect, only they will do in Srirengam, Karur though they are highly concentrated place of this SG and Hosur will get based on its highly potential hub and no chance of transfer, becoz allready there is only one depot by DPJ TNSTC.

Hi MK, Thanks for these wonderful bus pics. You have become an expert in photography. I felt as if I am standing in Madurai streets and watching these buses pass by. During my school days I used to go to Arasaradi or Palanganatham to do bus fanning (I was staying in SS Colony at that time). There were no mobile phones or digital camera in those days. Otherwise I too would have taken pics like you, Dhandpani, Arun, Reno etc.

This is the old SETC Trichy bus stand. During MGR govt. when Muthusami was transport minister, they constructed new building cum bus bays. But these bus bays were so narrow that it was not possible to open the bus door after parking the bus. So they stopped operating buses from here and shifted to Trichy CBS. After that no govt. came forward to demolish those buildings and construct a new one. But recently, as Deepu has mentioned, tenders have been called for to re-construct these buildings.

In Madurai as soon as Mattuthavani BS was opened, SETC shifted its operations from its bus stand near Periya BS to Mattuthavani BS. During those times that location (SETC BS) used to be very crowded during evening / night time, with buses to chennai leaving every 5 minutes between 8 and 9 PM. All the long distance SETC buses used to criss cross Madurai at night. TNSTC buses were not allowed to enter inside city. South bound TNSTC buses used to operate from Palanganatham, north west bound TNSTC buses from Arappalayam and north east buses from Anna BS. People used to joke Madurai is not only a temple city but also city of bus stands.

A big thanks for this pic.. I'm searching for this guy for a month or so. It is built by CEC, Pollachi. I saw this guy first near Agri college and couple of times in tirunagar. Still couldnt able to get a pic.. One more similar designed bus is there with Periakulam Agri College.

There are two depots in Cantonment near by eachother in the same road, one is Pudukkotai regions, other is Trichy Muffosal.

One thing i didnt mention is Trichy SETC is the second bigest one next to Madurai in fleet. But not for long till New Srirangam Depot. But whats the use of an SETC Depot here, a TNSTC one would be great to manage the huge junk of city bus and few Srirangam origin route buses.

But one thing Srirangam would be connected with entire TN by SETC and there going to be lots of shuttle services between Srirangam to Central Bus Stand like the 1 route townbuses, city going to be criscrossed by SETC buses.

Deepu I had been to the PDKT Region depot only once when a SETC bus in which I came broke down.

Hi every one, while going through this forum, seems we everyone want SETC and TNSTC to get back its glory which was present still earlier 2000.

SETC started to lost its glory from when they changed name TTC to SETc. I remember TN-01-N-68** series was introduced by 2002, there after for four years no new buses were given to setc. Again in 2006 April only they started joining new buses to fleet reg no starting from TN-01-N-69XX.

Particulartly after 2006, politicians given slow poison to SETC by poor maintenance , worst quality of buses and now made SETC cannot compete with either to private operator or even to other state Govt buses.

NOw my doubts is in Tamil Nadu, in past five years so many new Private operator has entered in OMNI bus service with large investment. Will they allow SETC to get its glory back as how we anticipate. Because all private operator want and like SETC to be continued in this fashion only.

Because of this private operator only still our southern Tamilnadu still not achieved its Railway need as required. Please think is it correct justification for people who living south Part of chennai in Tamil Nadu, have not good train connectivity.

Present govt taking some action it seems will boost SETC, i will be happiest person if some magic happens and SETC got glory back. In Karnataka, KSRTC act like corporate company, if SETC done half of the job of KSRTC, definetly all our private omni bus operator will go for toss.

Not only Private by operator, SETC going worst becauase of its crew also, since every one became part of some political parties and mess up the corporation.

So first of all SETC should act in professional way rather than like charity organizaion, this every crew should have then only SETC will get Oxygen.
Otherwise what ever step taken will not give any effect.

For SETC only competition in Tamil Nadu is private operator so they cannot come up because of bad politics.

But in the case TNSTC, all its eight corporation is competitor among them self, so at least we see some progress with them.

Eager to see positive see changes in SETC along with you.

You might have seen 9/9.30 PM bus starting from Bangalore. This is one among the worst bus we have in this route. Madurai depot dont even care to operate some good bus in this Madurai-Bangalore route. They all know is Madurai-Chennai route. :bash:

I know about a connection only. In this case it denotes that a bus departs to Pollachi/Udumalai when this guy reaches Palani. I very wildly guess that they would have arranged some timing in such a way that it works out. But I don't know what they will do if this guy faces an unfavorable situation such that it reaches Palani very late.

Guys, please correct me if I am wrong.

TNSTC Nellai - Ranithottam 1 depot's TN74 N1302 (refurbished bus it seems but the quality don't seem to be great, anyways bus experts please comment on the quality). His stickers above windows show Nagercoil to Theni. But board show Madurai.

Not refurbished bus but rapainted. It was Ex TNV EtoE bus Link (https://picasaweb.google.com/105870106544015462503/TNSTCNagercoilRegionMofussil#5644236272369123234). This bus suddenly disappeared from its route i thought it was impounded by court but seeing the window pane stickers i understood its running in Nagercoil- Cumbum route. They usually rotate buses in regular interval so you saw it in NGL - MDU route. Thanks for finding this for me

It came from Tirupur. MDU operating Tirupur - Nagercoil service (i saw this sticker in one bus) But i haven't seen TNSTC MDU's bus with Tirupur board in Nagercoil BS. Hope the bus works in following schedule Madurai- Tirupur- Nagercoil- Madurai. TNSTC MDU is famous for running this kinda Cross Service

It came from Marthandam. MDU operating one Madurai- Marthandam service with TSS tag. This is the only MDU's bus with TSS tag - guys correct if i'm wrong.

If your question is about the letters "CON", then it refers that pax can catch connecting buses to Udumalai and Pollachi from Palani.

This terminology is predominantly used by stage carriers.

A big thanks for the JJTC bus built by AZAD. Only a bus fans eyes look for buses in a movie song and that too in this bus, the JJCTC logo was masked and only identification was TN07NXXXX. I still remember my travel by a AZAD built SETC bus running on Shencottah - Blr route. The comfort level of the seats was too good and i slept like a baby that day. Build quality was far ahead of the rest of the lot STC buses...

The way the current lot 44 seater SETC buses have been introduced, i dont think SETC is looking at providing good comfort to the pax. Things have changed expectations from pax of a journey are high...

இன்று(11.05.2012)மாலை 6.20 மணியளவில் நாகர்கோவில் வடசேரி பேருந்து நிலையத்திலிருந்து கன்னியாகுமரிக்கு வருவதற்காக TN-74-N-1456 பதிவெண் கொண்ட SFS என்ற Route Board கொண்ட பேருந்தில் ஏறினேன். கட்டணம் ரூபாய் 15/- நேற்று முன் தினம் இதே Route Board கொண்ட மற்றொரு பேருந்தில் ஏறி பயணித்தேன்.அதில் கன்னியாகுமரிக்கு ரூபாய் 12 மட்டுமே.இதில் குறிப்பிட்டுக் கூற வருவது யாதெனில் கன்னியாகுமரி மாவட்டத்தில் ஓடும் பேருந்துகளில் ஒவ்வொன்றிலும் ஒவ்வொரு கட்டணம் வசூலிக்கப்படுகிறது.இதை எவரும் தட்டிக்கேட்பதில்லை.மற்றுமொரு முக்கியமான விஷயம் என்னவென்றால் தமிழக அரசால் நகரப்பேருந்துகளில் நிருணயிக்கப்பட்ட குறைந்த பட்ச கட்டணமான ரூபாய் 3 என்பது கன்னியாகுமரி மாவட்டத்தில் ஓடும் நகரப்பேருந்துகளில் கிடையாது.ஏன்? ஏனெனில் இங்குள்ள நகரப்பேருந்துகள் அத்தனையுமே ”வி” என்ற அதிவிரைவுப் பேருந்து களாகும்.அதி விரைவுப் பேருந்து என்றால் என்ன என்பதற்கான அர்த்தமே தெரியாது இம்மாவட்டத்திலுள்ள ஓட்டுநர்களுக்கும் நிருவாகத்திற்கும். அதனால் இங்கு ஓடும் நகரப்பேருந்துகளில் அனைத்திலுமே குறைந்த பட்ச கட்டணம் ரூபாய் 4/- ஆகும்.

We have buses running in Palani-Pollachi/CBE route for every 5 min. Sometimes it is even less than 5 min. Udumalai is on the way to Pollachi. Palani is actually a major connecting hub for Pollachi. For going to Trichy/Any Delta dist/South TN we have to come to Palani to catch the bus.

Dhandapani and Reno, I went to Chithirai exhibition today. When I was back from the exhibition I just saw another guy (with a yellow painted livery) Palani to Tiruchendur (Hope he was a TNSTC Madurai guy). He too had this same Connection (Pollachi and Udumalai) in his front wind shield. I hope they are doing this practice recently as you said.

The guy looked like this only. Most likely this one. Bypass is fine in that bus except for it has a space in between but Rider has become "Reader". Maybe this is also okay since this bus reads through out the length of the road. :lol:

What about the SETC Depot in TVM?? How is it possible to have a state to host its depot in another state? What about the operations and kind of stuff related to SETC TVM Depot?

We dont have enough depots for running buses in Tirupur. It has two depots along with Palladam depot support for running city buses. Then how can we transfer these to SETC. Erode region will also have same issue. So better let SETC create new depot rather than taking a depot from TNSTC-Coimbatore in Erode.

DGL guys can give more info about the operations of DGL depot. Ramesh-NTM?Any of the DGL city depots transfer to SETC is not possible, b'cos these 3 depots take care of majority of KKDI, Trichy bound buses from Palani in addition to MDU - CBE/ TUP/ ED/ SA buses leaving some to be taken care by PLNI, Oddanchatram, Vedasandur, Natham. Moreover, most of the Theni bound, POY or Dharapuram bound DGL region buses terminating @ DGL itself are also handled by these depots collectively in addition to their exclusive Chennai & city buses.

Today morning saw 1002 in madurai. It got converted as City bus. :)

Its been long SETC got Depot in TVM. 1982s TTC route map(SETC) shows TVM Depot as Sub-Depot. So it might be planned berfore 1970. I guess this Depot belongs to Trivancore Government. Bus fans who born in 1960s can give more details.

SETC runs KL-TN Inter-state routes from Trivandrum Depot. Few Destionations are Trivandrum - Chennai/Bangalore/Vellore/Ooty/Puducherry/Velankanni

SETC TN 01 N 6979 of Tiruchendur depot from Chennai to Thiruchendur. Head lights are drooping out as if they were about to fall. Travelled in this bus, which was unable to fill in people on a friday night from CMBT:nuts:. Entered Tambaram, filled in almost half bus with people for Trichy, Madurai etc. Had starting trouble and blocked one of the toll plaza lanes creating severe traffic jam.:lol:

It came from Tirupur. MDU operating Tirupur - Nagercoil service (i saw this sticker in one bus) But i haven't seen TNSTC MDU's bus with Tirupur board in Nagercoil BS. Hope the bus works in following schedule Madurai- Tirupur- Nagercoil- Madurai. TNSTC MDU is famous for running this kinda Cross Service

Rear view of JMS in DGL - KKDI with a windshield of some odd design. JMS brought in a new 12m guy as speculated earlier. All the DKT group guys have DKT in their front grills though they display as SMS, JMS, VMS. DGL - KKDI is now almost 12m guys only. Left one to confirm is DKT which would have gone for 12m along with JMS.

F962 - was introduced in 1990/91. served with Tambaram depot as 70V, transferred to Chromepet deport and served as V70 (Pallavaram - Avadi) - finally transferred to Alandur depot , eventually retired from service as KF962.

Thoothukudi Depot of SETC is doing good with the new buses allotted to them, already they started 11 hours journey to chennai with one stop at madurai, now they have given a brand name and attracting the pax, Duoronto Rider , Salem depot also come with such one in the Thiruchendur route. * Timings for chennai are same at both end.

The white tickets are used in Mofussil buses of NTC. Conductor need a ticket rack to keep this ticket. None of the TNSTCs used this type of ticket with ticket rack

The news paper says Kanyakumari BS is built by NTC. Allover Tamil Nadu only 2 Busstaands are owned by TNSTC (Ooty and Kanyakumari).

Hi am a new user of this forum and ready share the details of the busses running allover tamilnadu. Am very much a bus fan for a long a years. i have started watching the busses when I was six years old. My first experience i enjoyed is the erstwhile TTC which was from Bodinayakkanur to Coimbatore. the driver wearing a sun-glass and overtook all the buses casually. From that onwards I started speedy driving. So TTC is a first bus to made me bus fan.
After become SETC it lost its glory, but its now chance get backs its glory. i have pictures of some SETC which I have taken in Cbe SETC bus stand soon.

24.10.2002 அன்று பத்திரிகையில் வெளியான படம். இப்படத்தில் அண்ணா பேருந்து நிலையத்தில் காணப்படும் பல பேருந்துகள் இப்போது உபயோகத்தில் இல்லை. இரண்டு வருடங்களுக்கு முன் பணியிலிருந்து ஒதுக்கப் பெற்றது. மற்றொன்று சிற்றுந்துகள் அன்றைய காலத்தில் சிவப்பு மற்றும் மஞ்சள் வண்ணத்தில் வண்ணப்பூச்சுக்கள் பூசப்பட்டிருப்பதைக் காணலாம்.இப்படத்தில் வலப்பக்கம் பேருந்து நிலையத்திலிருந்து வெளியேறும் டாட்டா பேருந்தின் பதிவெண் த.நா-74-நா-0745 ஆக இருக்கலாம் என்று நம்புகிறேன்.

Coimbatore SETC Depot is not interested in getting new buses.Only the have replaced its 7.30 pm highway rider with new irizar built buses.

Seems liek a VPM division bus is also in the pic...wonder how such a normal bus operate from VPM/CHN or the north TN to Nagai...

Thoothukudi Depot of SETC is doing good with the new buses allotted to them, already they started 11 hours journey to chennai with one stop at madurai, now they have given a brand name and attracting the pax, Duoronto Rider , Salem depot also come with such one in the Thiruchendur route. * Timings for chennai are same at both end.
170 UD Thoothukudi - Chennai. 06:00P.M.
191UD Thiruchendur - Chennai 12hrs journey with stoppage at Tuty, Mdu. 08:30 P.M.
170UD Thoothukudi - Chennai 11hrs with stop at Mdu , Trichy. 09:00 P.M.

One is Tuticorin-Chennai AND the other is Thiruchendur - Chennai..So obviously ...two different locations..different route numbers...

Boss..that time Diesel cost was around 10 Rs/ L ...

Azad the bus is built by VPM divison and registered at Nagercoil TN-74 during 2001 - 2002 some buses were built by VPM and gave to NGl with their trademark design with front entry before the front wheel. the only vpm divison bus to enter south is Neyveli T.S. to Kanyakumari, it is after 2007 when new UD's came, that too stopped now.

இன்று(11.05.2012)மாலை 6.20 மணியளவில் நாகர்கோவில் வடசேரி பேருந்து நிலையத்திலிருந்து கன்னியாகுமரிக்கு வருவதற்காக TN-74-N-1456 பதிவெண் கொண்ட SFS என்ற Route Board கொண்ட பேருந்தில் ஏறினேன். கட்டணம் ரூபாய் 15/- நேற்று முன் தினம் இதே Route Board கொண்ட மற்றொரு பேருந்தில் ஏறி பயணித்தேன்.அதில் கன்னியாகுமரிக்கு ரூபாய் 12 மட்டுமே.இதில் குறிப்பிட்டுக் கூற வருவது யாதெனில் கன்னியாகுமரி மாவட்டத்தில் ஓடும் பேருந்துகளில் ஒவ்வொன்றிலும் ஒவ்வொரு கட்டணம் வசூலிக்கப்படுகிறது.இதை எவரும் தட்டிக்கேட்பதில்லை.மற்றுமொரு முக்கியமான விஷயம் என்னவென்றால் தமிழக அரசால் நகரப்பேருந்துகளில் நிருணயிக்கப்பட்ட குறைந்த பட்ச கட்டணமான ரூபாய் 3 என்பது கன்னியாகுமரி மாவட்டத்தில் ஓடும் நகரப்பேருந்துகளில் கிடையாது.ஏன்? ஏனெனில் இங்குள்ள நகரப்பேருந்துகள் அத்தனையுமே ”வி” என்ற அதிவிரைவுப் பேருந்து களாகும்.அதி விரைவுப் பேருந்து என்றால் என்ன என்பதற்கான அர்த்தமே தெரியாது இம்மாவட்டத்திலுள்ள ஓட்டுநர்களுக்கும் நிருவாகத்திற்கும். அதனால் இங்கு ஓடும் நகரப்பேருந்துகளில் அனைத்திலுமே குறைந்த பட்ச கட்டணம் ரூபாய் 4/- ஆகும்.
மேற்சொன்ன விடயத்திற்கு வருகிறேன். வழக்கம் போல் ரூ-12/-ஐ எடுத்து சரியான சில்லரையாக நடத்துனரிடம் நீட்டினேன். எங்கு செல்லவேண்டும் என்றார். கன்னியாகுமரிக்கு என்றேன். இன்னும் 3 ரூ தாருங்கள் என்றார். எதற்கு என்றேன். இதில் ரூ-15/- என்றார். எப்போதிருந்து இக்கட்டண உயர்வு என்றேன். இது பல நாட்களாயிற்று என்றார். இல்லையே நேற்று முன் தினம் கூட ரூ-12/- தானே கொடுத்தேன் என்றேன். அதற்கு நடத்துனர் அளித்த பதில் இந்த வண்டி இந்த நேரத்தில் வருகின்ற வண்டியில்லை. தாமதமாக வருகின்றது.......அதனால் ரூ-15/- விட்டு விட்டேன். எனது இருக்கையின் அருகில் மற்றொரு வெளியூர் பயணி வந்து அமர்ந்தார். அவரிடமும் ரூ-15/- வசூலிக்க அவர் எனென்று கேட்க நான் பிடித்துக் கொண்டேன். பேருந்துக்குள் பேச்சு முற்றி ஒரு வகையில் ஓய்ந்தது. சுசீந்திரம் வந்த போது பரிசோதகர்கள் இருவர் ஏறினர். ஒருவரிடம் நீங்கள் உங்கள் பணியை முடித்துவிட்டு வாருங்கள் உங்களுடன் சில வார்த்தைகள் பேச வேண்டுமென்று சொல்ல அவர் என்னவென்று கேட்க பக்கத்திலிருந்த பயணி தொடங்கி வைக்க நான் தொடர்ந்தேன். காரசாரமான குரல்கள். பேருந்தின் பின் பகுதியிலிருந்தவர்களும் இம்முறை சேர்ந்து கொண்டார்கள். நாங்கள் சுட்டிக்காட்டியது இதைத் தான். பேருந்துகளின் கட்டண விவரங்களை வாசலுக்கருகிலோ முன் கண்ணாடியிலோ எல்லோருக்கும் தெரியும் படியாக எழுதுங்கள். அப்படியானால் தெரிந்து ஏறுவார்கள். நடத்துனருக்கும் பயணிகளுக்கும் இடையில் வாக்குவாதம் ஏற்படாது.அதை விடுத்து சத்தமேயில்லாமல் ஏறிய பின் வண்டி ஓடிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் போது அதிக பட்ச கட்டணம் கேட்டால் அதைக் கொடுக்க எல்லோராலும் இயலுமா? என்னிடம் இருந்தது தந்துவிட்டேன். சில பெண்கள் சரியான சில்லரையோடு வருவார்கள். அவர்கள் என்ன செய்வார்கள்.( என்ன கடுமையாக பயணியைத் திட்டிவிட்டு நடு வழியில் இறக்கிவிடுவார்கள்.... ஏதோ பயணிகள் தவறு செய்தைப் போல) பரிசோதகர் சமாதானம் சொல்கிறார். ஆமாம்..நீங்கள் சொல்வது சரி தான்.(என்னைப் பார்த்து) நீங்கள் இதை நிருவாகத்திற்கு எடுத்துச் சொல்லுங்கள் என்றோம். பரிசோதகர் துண்டைக் காணோம் துணியைக் காணோமென்று ஓடிவிட்டார்.
பெரும்பாலான வண்டிகளின் தடப்பலகையில் எண் இருக்காது. அப்படியானால் தானே எளிதில் ஏமாற்ற முடியும்!)

Last thursday night i traveled to chennai with the above Tnstc Salem UD atthur depot i bargained with conductor for front VIP seat finally i got seat his timming is 11.15pm but he moved out from SLM cbs from 11.30pm stopped Atthur for10mins ,skipped Kallkurchi,Ulundurpet by took by-pass in Ulundurpet as usual Private omni crowd bolcked 15 mins in Tollgate ,main thing was he cheated alloted motel near by Villupuram tollgate he sent conductor to sign & told him bus was stopped in backside driver went for toilet:lol: then conductor gone bus was stopped behind villupuram tollgate 15mins gone driver went some where passengers were knocking door to piss but door was locked out side finnaly driver,conductor got in bus and asked passenger to wait for 10mins we stopped in other motel then he stopped at some motel behind villupuram toll for10mins. finalluy reached CMBT at 6.45am total 7.15hrs comfort was ok.

Right from chengelpet entrance roads full of gravel lorries,sand lorries yemadarman agents:devil: govt must take action to stop operation of these lorries in early mornings lot of outstation buses arrived on that time to Chennai bus drivers also tiered in that time so their is lot of chances for accidents.Last month SETC slm depot got accident near vandalur driver was died.

I asked about transfer of routes beyond 300kms from Tnstc to Setc he looked my face horrible then said it was just statement only it will never execute by our govt:wallbash: .

Reno thanks for JJTC bus pics.During induction of JJTC i was in chennai my school days .usually rear wind shield had 2 red flowers in JJTC . No body forgot JJTC meet accident near Sriperumbadur with Acid container lorry total passengers were burned in that accident so sad.
olden days Tnstc Salem had sunflower like sticker in all windshields,Tnstc Trichy had sun&bird was flying like that JJTC had red flowers.:)

The registered number for this TATA bus was TN74 N 749 not 745 , TN74 745 was AL High tech model of tiruvattar depot

TATA bus starts from TN74 N 748 to 755 then 763 to 767 built by Ranithottam and tirunelveli. These buses served 1998 upto 2007 ( until 100 new buses given during DMK)

TN74 N 749 was running on route 11B

Two vestibule buses were operated Between Nagecoil to Kaliakavilai route
TCB 7704 and TCB 7706

Also NTC had many Ford buses ( around 50) TCB 76xx series which got scrapped within 3 years. That time NTC was going down from making profit

Really looks cool. Thanks for all your old bus tickets. Was wondering how they were running in profits at that time with such low fares.

Just had a search in TNSTC website for SETC services to various destinations. I was really shocked to notice the following:

There are almost 10 services a day between Thiruvananthapuram and Chennai. None of the buses go even half full. The travel time is still the same as the one in late 1990s, when i was there in Thiruvananthapuram for around 5 yrs and the road was fully 2 laned till Chengalpet.

This is how SETC is loosing half of its revenue. They never study the demand in the routes. They are literally running almost 5 empty buses in the above route. I am really surprised to see public money being wasted in diesel and at other expenses. They neither reduce the travel time. They ply unwanted day time buses in unwanted routes when TNSTCs are there to supplement them. They never allow their buses to go to their depots to take rest during the day time.

If they implement introduce the buses atleast based on demand, they can reduce half of their expense in diesel. Leave apart the rest.

The registered number for this TATA bus was TN74 N 749 not 745 , TN74 745 was AL High tech model of tiruvattar depot

TATA bus starts from TN74 N 748 to 755 then 763 to 767 built by Ranithottam and tirunelveli. These buses served 1998 upto 2007 ( until 100 new buses given during DMK)

TN74 N 749 was running on route 11B

எம்.ஜி.ஆர் ஆட்சி காலத்தில் 1980-களில் ஃபோர்டு பேருந்துகள் ஒவ்வொரு மாவட்டத்திற்கும் 50 வீதம் வழங்கப்பட்டன.அதில் கன்னியாகுமரி மாவட்டத்தில் கன்னியாகுமரி பணிமனைக்கு மொத்தமாக 50 பேருந்துகள் 1980-களில் வழங்கப்பட்டன.இப்பேருந்துகளில் பயணிகள் பட்ட இன்னல்கள் சொல்லி மாளாது.பேருந்தில் பயணிக்கும் போது ஒருவித துள்ளல் இருக்கும். பராமரிக்கத் தெரியாமல் இயக்கப்பட்டதால் அதன் ஆயுள் குறைவாகவே இருந்தது.நகரப்பேருந்துகள் அனைத்தும் ஃபோர்டு பேருந்துகளும் நெடுந்தூர பேருந்துகள் அனைத்தும் லேலண்ட் பேருந்துகளாகவும் இயக்கப்பட்டன். இப்பேருந்துகள் எப்போது சேவையிலிருந்து ஓய்வு பெறும் என்று எதிர்பார்க்கச்செய்தது அக்காலகட்டத்தில்.

TN74 N0714 got facelift. I still remember the front face of TN74 N0715 which was with Monday market Depot in its inital days.

Do you remember is there is any Vestibule ran between Nagercoil- Tirunelveli route? I remember a travel in Vestibule on Tirunelveli direction but i can't recall the place where we travelled to. I used to call them as "Train Bus" on those days

Mr.Reno, I tried to upload the pictures of TN 01 N 7926 of TVM-Chennai which was running as TVM-Ooty. It was painted with new livery and looked like a new bus.If you have that pictures pls upload it
