In Madurai, Dindigul and Virudhunagar districts

The State government has sanctioned 43 new buses to the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) to be operated in Madurai, Dindigul and Virudhunagar districts.

According to senior officials in TNSTC, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had flagged off the vehicles in Chennai and the Madurai division had benefitted in the new arrivals from Wednesday.

Based on requests from public and those received through MLAs, new routes had been sanctioned on eight stretches in Madurai city and 2 on mofussil routes.

For Dindigul, six new routes had been provided and the mofussil segment has got 10 new routes. As for Virudhunagar district was concerned, three new routes and 16 mofussil routes has been approved. Totally, 17 new routes for city and 16 mofussil stretches had been sanctioned. The officials said that 54 body renovated vehicles had also been put to use forthwith in the region.

Apart from this, 50 applicants, on a seniority basis, had got employment on humanitarian grounds in the Corporation. The trade union leaders welcomed the State government’s decision for its austerity measure. Earlier, in the DMK regime, it would be customary to display all the new vehicles at Chennai for flagging off ceremony by the Chief Minister or the Transport Minister.

The diesel cost for each vehicle was borne by the exchequer. The bus crew had to be accommodated till the function was over. Further, while proceeding to Chennai, the new buses had to ply empty, while on its return, the crew cannot expect full compliment of passengers.

With symbolic representation, the government has set a trend and hoped such measures were followed in other functions/departments as well. This is a welcome step.

Similarly, in the past, it was mandatory for all the beneficiaries (who were handed over with job orders on humanitarian grounds) to be present.

The government has now realised the ordeal of common man. The office-bearers also expressed satisfaction over the announcement of release of pension pending from September 2010 to March 2011. This has come as a big relief to the pensioners, who were looking for the benefit soon on their superannuation.

^^ So, from TNSTC Madurai,

* Madurai -> 8 new city routes and 2 new mofussil routes

* Dindigul -> 6 new town routes and 10 new mofussil routes.

* Virudhunagar -> 3 new town routes and 16 (out of which 5 is new it seems) mofussil routes.

^^ Really a good move for Dindigul because Dindigul has around 5 prominent town routes which too faces much of competition from private bus operators (real money spinning ones). Now the new guys addition may give some resources for the TNSTC to compete with the private guys. :cheers:

Hi, the buses from Dindigul take Sempatti, Batlagundu route and the Kodai road buses also take Batlagundu route, but the Dindigul buses don't go via Kodai road. But there are a good number of bus services from Dindigul Bus Stand (when compared to Kodai road) from the early morning. Private buses also have a good presence in this route.

But, since you are asking for Dindigul and Kodai road, I guess you are coming to those stations by train. Getting down from the train in Kodai road (Bus stand is very near the railway station i.e you can reach by walk whereas in Dindigul it is not) is really a nice decision.

Please wait for some more opinions from the well versed guys of this forum.

Hi thanks for the info. When is the first bus starting time to kodaikanal from dindigul and what is the frequency of time interval between each bus.

I have boarded buses as early as 6 a.m from Dindigul to Kodaikanal (actually we missed the first bus that time, so the first bus should be leaving Dindigul even earlier). Don't know the present timings. But buses are very much available from Dindigul with a good frequency (a bus leaves to Kodaikanal for every half an hour I suppose but let us check with expert bus enthusiasts as well).

From the inaugural ceremony, TNSTC-CBE share is 109 which includes 71 New buses and 38 refurbished buses...from one official of TNSTC.Cbe, New routes for Cbe dist. :
Coimbatore to Theni-2 buses
Coimbatore to Cumbam-2 buses
town bus:
annur to mettupalayam-3 buses
annur to puliampatti-1
annur to avinashi-1
ukkadam to chinnavedampatti-1
other parts of dist.-7 buses..
So out of 71 New buses,17 buses for Coimbatore dist.

TN-27 was allotted to Salem RTO(Old) (now Salem West).

In 1989 STA introduced Computerised Data processing for new vehicle registrations, that time they developed the system to allot upto 9 digits only (ex:TN27X1234), after ten years Salem RTO faced a problem that the system not accept the series like AA/AZ after they allotted all the single alphabetic serials(A to Z).
Note: Salem RTO was the first RTO in TN registered all alphabetic single serials .

Then STA changed the system upto 10digits in 1999(i think) and alloted new RTO number to Salem as TN-30

After TLS, TN -27 also stopped for registration.

looks like TN27 missed out.. TSTC Salem registered buses till about 1500 or 1700 till about 2004 -05..

TNSTC Salem had registered till 1700 in its old TN-27-N-XXXX series.

Spotted Trichy region's Cantonment depot TN 45 N 3413, a TML with "Sadharana Kattanam" but with yuck cross livery adding up to the confusion list discussed in few posts above.

Natham depot's Babies

TN 57 N 2110 -> Palani - Sivaganga (Replaced TN 57 N 2049)
TN 57 N 2113 -> Natham - Tiruppur (Replaced TN 57 N 2052)
TN 57 N 2106(?) -> Madurai - Salem (Replaced TN 74 N 1451)

I spotted 1 more bus with new yuck livery. Not sure if it was newbie/ refurbished or existing one affected by livery disease. TN 57 N 1775 is in a local route. Hope Natham - Nagore guy should have got a newbie.

TN 57 N 2049, TN 57 N 2047 (Chennai guy) & few more city guys have got their new uniform. Also I have seen many Natham depot guys marching to DGL. TN 74 N 1247 was seen to be coming out of DGL-1 depot with Gudalur via Theni board. TN 57 N 2047, TN 57 N 2053 (Rameswaram guy) & one more city bus were on the way to DGL. Understand this for finalising the bus allocation.

Palani - Sivaganga guy was discriminated by DGL region very badly & now even its pairing Tirupattur guy undergoes a bad treatment from KKDI region. Now both these regions are playing with the route also. In such a case, don't think DGL's sudden wake up & giving newbies continuously won't bring back its glory.

I have a million dollar question. For a small depot like Natham, why 3 newbies? That too these buses have replaced less than 2 year old guys. I hate some special attention when it is a minister's constituency and utter negligence when our MLA becomes opposition party MLA.

Ramesh, from this Hindu article, it could be infered that six new town routes in Dindigul district. Out of the above dinamalar news, could you figure which all may be the new town routes?

Thanks prasai for bringing out the new RTO immediately it was released. TN 11 and 16 were released in this week.. It is quite a surprise 16 is now allotted to Tindivanam which is further away from Chennai; it seemed that from 1-22 all numbers will be allotted to chennai; maybe tindivanam also is getting to be considered as suburb of Chennai.

Thanks vgraja for giving the info regarding why TN27 was stopped.

I hope they have made the system to accept more than 10 digits; as we might see TN100 also in future..

They should give TN27 back to Salem..

i think TN43N0344 is the first bus of OOTY registration to get refurbished

In which route you saw the veera built buses? i saw one in Srirangam-Bangalore.

As for as the quality is concerned, Irizar, KMS and BBB tops the list and didnt see the veera guy closely. So no comments on veera built bus.

Actually at the time of allotting the numbers in the late 80's TN did a good job in provisioning of future numbers for every city...

If you refer to the list, the ones having old registration series against them were the first ones to be alloted..

For example, Chennai had only 1, 4, 7, 9 and in between numbers were provisioned for future allotment.. then 10-20 were free; 21 went to Kanchipuram and 22 was free..

Similarly Coimbatore had 37 allotted and had 38,39,40 free.

Madurai had 59 and had 60,61 free.

Tiruchi had 45 and had 46, 47, 48 free.

and other cities had either 1 or 2 free numbers after their initially allotted numbers..

Initially they did the free ones quite sensibly.. like 38 for Coimbatore; 58 for Madurai and 60 for Theni... 48 for Srirangam, 47 for Karur, 46 for Perambular...

But only in the last few years...it became allot anything that is free..

Now they have exhausted all numbers from 21 to 78; and only free ones were 11-16 and this week 11 is gone to Tambaram; and 16 to Tindivanam..

We have now 12-15 free; they should allot this to Chennai and its suburb ; and start using 79 and above for the rest of TN..

Ideally they should allot 80-85 for Coimbatore region; 86-90 to Salem; 91-95 to Tiruchi; 96-100 for Madurai region;

Then they can start alloting the same numbers in 100 series like
101-122 - Chennai
137 - Coimbatore
159 - Madurai
145 - Tiruchi
133 - Erode
and likewise for cities... that it will be good that TN numbers can be easily understood...

otherwise we will be like any other State where numbers are very confusing Bangalore has KA1-5 and then KA 41, 42, 51 and so on..

giving numbers to RTO'S in TN causes more confusion becoz of many nasty allotment by the government .the examples are
TN43 & TN45 (FOR OOTY & TIRUCHY)
TN45 & TN48 (FOR TIRUCHY)
TN37,38 & TN66(FOR COIMBATORE)
TN30 & TN54(FOR SALEM)
TN51 & TN52(FOR NAGAI & SANKAGIRI)
TN54 &TN55 ,TN56&(FOR SALEM,PUDUKOTTAI PERUNDURAI & DINDUGAL )
like this list goes confusing for:
TN63,TN64,TN65,TN66,TN67,TN68,TN69,TN70,TN72,TN73,TN77,TN78

Maiden Trip guys.. From TNSTC-Madurai - Took it on tuesday.

Front profile of the refurbished bus belonging to Thirupuvanam depot. It was running in the same 32E route earlier also. Now came back with a new face. This guy was rocking as 32E City Express for many years. Welcome back in the form sir!

Going by the TNSTC offical's words in PT News channel item posted by Anniyan here, these Madurai - Erode buses are LSSs :lol: Since they have maroon lines going from up to down.

Present condition of erstwhile TNSTC UDs

After transferring 9+9 UDs with SETC those buses lost its glory. Today i went to Nagercoil BS at evening to check the present condition of them. This is what i saw when they moving towards chennai

First bus -------> 2 passengers
Second bus ----> 2 passengers
third bus -------> 1 passenger
First AC bus ----> 4 passengers
second AC bus--> 3 passengers
fourth bus -----> No passengers until i leave the BS
(it was waiting in BS for more than 2 hours)

When it was TNSTC mostly all buses get full (altleast half)

Way to go SETC!I made a chat TNSTC official guys regarding this transfer. Actually TNSTC drivers and conductors not interested in operating long distance busses and they like to work in short distance routes. So they were happy about this decisions. I feel if SETC get more revenue they will perform well. Let's hope positively.

40 buses totally for DGL region to replace existing ones. 20 mofussil buses would be operated to Cumbum, Theni, Trichy, Cuddalore, Bodi, CBE, TPR. 20 city buses would be operated to Natham - Karungalakkudi, Natham (?) - Sendurai, Batlagundu, Palani Sugar Mill, Kaniyur, Vedasandur, Ayyalur.

So I've to search for atleast 1 or 2 city buses @ Natham. 4 out of 40:nuts: is really a great number to understand our oppicers Jalra skills.:bash::bash::bash:

RameshTill today whatever I have seen, there are 4 newbies & 4 refurbished ones exclusively to Natham depot. I already updated about 2106, 2110, 2113. The 4th guy is TN 57 N 2109 in MDU - Pollachi replacing TN 72 N 1585, a superb BBB built bus.

Natham - Alagarkovil got TN 57 N 1296. Couldn't click it or note down any details. People are aware to differentiate newbies & refurbished ones. Natham depot's quota for this lot (till this minute) is 4 newbies + 4 refurbished. I leave it to your discussion if Natham depot deserves these many when entire MDU allocation itself is just 97.

It is mainly used to connect few svg district areas with Madurai city.

Present condition of erstwhile TNSTC UDs

After transferring 9+9 UDs with SETC those buses lost its glory. Today i went to Nagercoil BS at evening to check the present condition of them. This is what i saw when they moving towards chennai

First bus -------> 2 passengers
Second bus ----> 2 passengers
third bus -------> 1 passenger
First AC bus ----> 4 passengers
second AC bus--> 3 passengers
fourth bus -----> No passengers until i leave the BS
(it was waiting in BS for more than 2 hours)

When it was TNSTC mostly all buses get full (altleast half)

Way to go SETC!

Just 12 passengers for 6 buses. Sd buses of ngl charged sd or ud fare? Setc already stickered them as ud. They look far better than setc sd buses.

Read that buses from cbe and poy to mas were also transferred to setc from Thursday. Crews were also talking about this in arapalayam bs yesterday night...

How many mofussil refurbished guys from cbe region? Only single digit nos were there for mofussil bus refurbishment from tnstc-cbe.

you right. I didn't see any refurbished mofusil buses in both cbe and tpr regions. I see only one erode region only which as tn 33 n 2011

Hello folks..I am surprised & shocked to spot a SETC ac bus to chennai from Coimbatore(TN 38 N 1744) route 858 which was earlier with TNSTC -CBE in Thoopur motel today morning..

I couldnt able to get the front picture as it moved as soon my bus entered into the motel..sorry..

From when TNSTC cbe ac route to chennai was transferred to SETC?? but there was no formal announcement(like TNV).Unofficially?????:ohno::nuts::nuts:

So many long distance buses introduced recently in srirangam. what kind of size and current status of Sri rangam bus stand?Srirangam doesn't even have a bus stand. It is similar to mofussil buses departing Chathiram bus stand from roadsides.
Thanks for the updates from Natham, Ramesh-NTM :cheers: Palani to Karaikudi is really nice route catering to big passengers that visit Palani from Chettinad Though the route is great, patronage part is not that great. This route doesn't qualify as a complete end to end route. Passengers travelling to next town/ city within 50 km distance are the maximum patronizers. This only had made 2 TNSTC buses being short terminated @ DGL itself for their night trips. AFAIK, Sivaganga & Devakottai buses of KKDI/ DGL have undergone this change.

Spotted 3 brand new buses of tirupur region(1 palani, 2 udt) and 1 from erode's anthiyur depot. 2100 of dgl also allotted to bodi-cbe route.

Number of uds in cbe-nellai from nellai depot is increased from 2 to 4 and all are 12m 43 seaters. AN 0108, AN 0109 is added now.

I was lucky to get the pics of ac bus in cbe-mas and two uds of poy-mas on Thursday at cmbt.. So that will be the last day for them with tnstc-cbe stickers. Their pairs might got the setc stickers on that day itself

Why they will terminate a bus in Tambaram when CMBT is less than 30 kms away. There will be less crowd if the bus orginate from Tambaram.

SETC to operate eight new buses

Share · print · T+ Share The State Express Transport Corporation would operate eight new buses on nine routes hitherto operated by Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Tirunelveli Division) from Tuesday onwards, said the Managing Director, G. Mohan.

As directed by the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, it has been decided that buses operated above 300 km by TNSTC would be handed over to the State Express Transport Corporation for the benefit of the passengers. In the first phase, luxury buses would be operated from Colachel to Chennai, air-conditioned bus from Kanyakumari to Chennai, luxury buses from Kollencode to Chennai, Kulasekaram to Chennai, Marthandam to Chennai, Monday Market to Chennai, Nagercoil to Chennai and air-conditioned buses from Nagercoil to Chennai and from Thuckalay to Chennai.

In the second phase, buses being operated by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation to Thanjavur and Coimbatore would be operated by SETC. There were 4 depots in the district including Nagercoil, Kanyakumari, Marthandam and Thiruvanathapuram. As many as 45 SETC buses from various destinations to Chennai were being operated from Kanyakumari and the neighbouring Thiruvananthapuram districts, said the branch manager of SETC (Nagercoil), S. Kalyanasundaram

Amma is doing all the things that can help SETC run in operational profits. I would have really admired her, if she had adopted the policy of single corporation like the neighboring states of Kerala and Andhra. This would have helped reduce the fixed costs to a lot extent.

Also, instead of the above policy of transferring all the buses with distance 300+ kms to SETC, she should have adpoted a policy that all buses travelling more than 300kms overnight should be a SD/UD bus. This would have been really great.

Lets see how is SETC going to handle this.
They will be having only 100+473+299 = 872 new buses. The rest of the buses are very old and they need to be replaced (including TNSTCs UDs and AC Coaches). So, will another 800 UDs join the fleet of SETC. It would be great if all the buses are having a unique livery and are of 12 M. Will Amma slowly replace the AC Coach buses with Volvos? Or will she continue operating UD AC Coaches along with Volvos. The biggest question here is the travel time to be taken by SETC after taking over the routes of TNSTC. They need to do NON STOP service from Source to Destinations like the TNSTC's UD and SD buses.

It was incurring a loss of Rs 8.55 per km in the previous financial year, totalling to a loss of Rs 53 lakh per day. However, with fare hikes the losses have come down to Rs 4.80 per kilometre which amounts to Rs 29.76 lakh per day.

So, still TN STUs are running in losses. They are not making operational profit on daily basis..... Sad to hear this... :ohno:

Saw the two uds ex poy-2 depot of tnstc-cbe coming from setc cbe depot to pollachi. Didn't see the jcbl ud reg no and the other one was a downgraded guy 1734. :(

I think setc cbe depot got less number of new 12m uds.. Saw them only in cbe-mas route.

Ya.. I have spotted SETC buses with all the bodys.. Also spotted Sakthi coach also. You can see SETC buses built by different players in ECR and in delta districts. Shocking and surprising that SETC has not opted for Prakash, who is the Market Leader and the most preferred one for constructing Ultra Delux / Luxury buses.

erode regn is doing this becoz to connect these place with chittor,so tat a person can reach tirupathi.i think patronage will be normal

What are the new routes of SETC in this new batch. I saw only a Chennai-Trichy bus from the Tn01 AN series. What abt the rest. If they can replace the Nagarcoil, KK and Trivandrum SETC buses it will be really good.

80% buses of Kanyakumari, Nagercoil, Marthandam and Trivandrum depots are now replaced with the present Maroon UDs (remaining 10% are Green UDs and another 10% -36 seater UDs)

Few days back,I have shared a information here. during transport committee meeting for 12th 5 year plan, TNSTC heads projected they will be in loss for 2013, 2014, 2015.
now it looks 2012 also heading to a loss. on 1 side, there are some reports that we have employees to bus ratio is high and another media reports that shortage of bus crew to operate the bus:nuts:
both the reports might be true, because ruling party members go on "On Duty" bunking the work.there were couple of reports in JV last year. Its true to a extent also, when my neighbours used to go for work only 3 days during 1 kazhaga aatchies and in another kazhaga aatchi, he will go for 1 day only. 2 days he bunks it in the name of "OD".
efficiency needs to be improved here. (lets not compare how other states are doing).

Friends, Tirupur is well connected by TNSTCs to many towns/cities. The following may (plus additional that I do not know) be the list of routes from Tirupur that may get transferred to SETC. Please add/correct.

If the number of buses for each of the above routes is say 1 Pair, then the total will be 28+8 (4 UDs + 2 A/C +2 Ordinary to Chennai) = 36.

Which SETC depo these buses will be accommodated? Will there be a separate SETC depo for Tirupur? :?

Another question I have is, except CHENNAI route, all the above routes are served by Ordinary 3*2 buses by TUP region. Will SETC run these buses as 3*2 or will they be upgraded to Luxury Coach or UDs? :? Upgrading may dent ordinary migrant people's packet, who are the primary workforce of Tirupur.:sad2: But at the same time, SETC running 3*2 will downplay its high end service tag/image.

In Coimbatore not only TNSTC Cbe busses are transferred, and also the drivers and conductors of TNSTC are working for SETC. They said for 3 months they will be in SETC. After the recruitment of new drivers they will back to their respective divisions.

Tirupur-vedaranyam --> Nagapattinam depot
Tirupur-Tiruvarur--> Nagapattinam depot
Tirupur-Tenkasi --> Shencottah depot
Tirupur-Chennai --> Chennai central depot

These depots are closely located to these destinations so they'll get chance to operate it. No idea in other destionations

80% buses of Kanyakumari, Nagercoil, Marthandam and Trivandrum depots are now replaced with the present Maroon UDs (remaining 10% are Green UDs and another 10% -36 seater UDs)

TNSTC really inaugrate this service? In the present scenerio due to the 300 km limit i don't think TNSTC get permit for this. (Except TN-KA route in the above list)
ERODE-CHITTOR is just 260kms,so they will get permit for this route

ஈரோடு: தமிழக முதல்வர் சமீபத்தில் பல்வேறு வழித்தடங்களில் துவக்கிவைத்த அரசு பஸ்களை இயக்க, டிரைவர்கள் இல்லை. அ.தி.மு.க., ஆட்சி பொறுப்பேற்ற பின், பஸ் கட்டணம் அதிரடியாக உயர்த்தப்பட்டது. பொதுமக்கள் வசதிக்காக, கூடுதல் பஸ்கள் வழங்கவும் அரசு உத்தரவிட்டது.ஜூன் 19ம் தேதி, 304 புதிய பஸ்கள் மற்றும் 266 புனரமைக்கப்பட்ட பஸ்களை, சென்னையில் இருந்தபடி முதல்வர் ஜெயலலிதா இயக்கி வைத்தார். கோட்டம் வாரியாக, 21 பஸ்கள் முதல் அதிகபட்சமாக, 155 பஸ்கள் வரை வழங்கப்பட்டன. எனினும், அந்த பஸ்களை இயக்க டிரைவர்கள் இல்லாமல், போக்குவரத்து கழகங்கள், திக்கு முக்காடி வருகின்றன.
ஏற்கனவே, அரசு போக்குவரத்துக் கழகங்களில், டிரைவர் பற்றாக்குறையால், மூன்று முதல், அதிகபட்சமாக, 10 பஸ்கள் வரை, டிப்போக்களில் நிறுத்தி வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. தவிர, தமிழகம் முழுவதுமாக, விபத்து வழக்குகளில் சிக்கி, நீதிமன்றங்களால் ஜப்தி செய்யப்பட்ட பஸ்கள், சமீபத்தில் போக்குவரத்து கழகத்தால் மீட்கப்பட்டன. இந்த பஸ்களின் டிரைவர்களே, கடந்த காலங்களில், பதிலி டிரைவர்களாக இருந்துள்ளனர்.

இப்போது, ஜப்தி பஸ்கள் மீட்கப்பட்டதால், டிரைவர், கண்டக்டர் தட்டுப்பாடு அதிகரித்துள்ளது. இப்பிரச்னையைப் போக்க, டிரைவர்களுக்கு கூடுதல் பணி வழங்கியும், விடுப்பு வழங்காமலும் சமாளிக்கப்படுகிறது.

மாநிலம் முழுவதும், 560 புதிய பஸ்கள் வழங்கப்படுவதால் மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்த போக்குவரத்து கழகம், அவற்றை இயக்க போதிய டிரைவர், கண்டக்டர் இல்லாமல் தவிக்கிறது. இதனால், டிப்போக்களில் சராசரியாக, எட்டு முதல் பத்து பஸ்கள் இயக்கப்படாமல் வீணாக நிறுத்தி வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.முதல்வர் துவக்கி வைத்தார் என்பதால், பிரச்னை வராமல் இருக்க, ஏற்கனவே இயங்கிவந்த பஸ்களை டிப்போக்களில் நிறுத்திவிட்டு, அதன் டிரைவர், கண்டக்டர்களை கொண்டு, புதிய பஸ்களை இயக்கப்படுகின்றன. அரசு சமீபத்தில், "போக்குவரத்து கழகத்தில் உள்ள, 16 ஆயிரம் பணியிடங்கள் நிரப்பப்படும்' என, அறிவித்தது. இதன்படி, பணியாளர்களை விரைந்து நியமித்தால் மட்டுமே முழுமையாக பஸ்களை இயக்க முடியும்.

^^ 3 to 10 buses per depot are kept idle because of new buses addition and retrieval of buses from court impounds. Now, crew shortage has become the problem to operate buses. As new buses came, somewhat old buses are kept idle in depot. 16000 ( :omg: ) vacancies should be filled soon facilitating operation of these buses.

Few days back,I have shared a information here. during transport committee meeting for 12th 5 year plan, TNSTC heads projected they will be in loss for 2013, 2014, 2015.
now it looks 2012 also heading to a loss. on 1 side, there are some reports that we have employees to bus ratio is high and another media reports that shortage of bus crew to operate the bus:nuts:
both the reports might be true, because ruling party members go on "On Duty" bunking the work.there were couple of reports in JV last year. Its true to a extent also, when my neighbours used to go for work only 3 days during 1 kazhaga aatchies and in another kazhaga aatchi, he will go for 1 day only. 2 days he bunks it in the name of "OD".
efficiency needs to be improved here. (lets not compare how other states are doing).

Few simple measures to cut down the losses:

1. The SG must subsidize the fuel costs, tax etc.
2. They need to implement GPS in their buses, so that in whichever route, the bus runs empty, they can be reduced. (Check the online reservation status for SETC buses in Chennai - Thiruvananthapuram route. Do we really need so much buses running empty to Thiruvananthapuram?)
3. Introduce more no of premium buses, which are actually money spinners. APSRTC had a increase in revenue when it started concentrating in premium buses: Garuda, GarudaPlus, Venella, Indra etc.
4. Merge all the 8 corporations to form a single corporation to reduce the fixed costs in the top level, which can reduce almost 30% of the expenses. (Organization Structure to be the same like Indian Railways)

I feel that it is good that if it continues its present form with more co-ordination between these corporations.
this will help particular region's demand is address by the corporations. if it is centralized, then SR case mathiri than. demands of the people will not be met.

That will be interesting! Let us wait and see what SETC officials do.
Converting all the 3*2 to SD/UD will be good and bad. For common man/ labour force, they will end up paying atleast 1.5 times what they used to pay for Ordinary services. My take would be a mix of SD/UD/Ordinary on these routes would be helpful to all.

Vignesh, any idea on the number of buses that belong to the fleet of PSNA? I am glad that they forayed into transport business as how the Nellai, Nanjil region engineering colleges are doing. IMO, the RVS group can also operate luxury buses to Chennai and Bangalore.

Thanks for the wonderful pics. Nice to see that NGL depot replaced the bangalore route. Earlier it had a 48 seater UD.

Is this an old route or new route?

TN 01 AN 0078 of Marthandam branch towards Chennai (it replaced TNSTC's Marthandam-Chennai UD)

Nice to see that they replaced an Old UD of TNSTC. Earlier it had a JCBL guy right? Any idea about the plan for their old UD?

Converting all the 3*2 to SD/UD will be good and bad. For common man/ labour force, they will end up paying atleast 1.5 times what they used to pay for Ordinary services. My take would be a mix of SD/UD/Ordinary on these routes would be helpful to all.
+100. it will help lot of people who does not earn much. each paise counts.
but good thing in TN is almost 24hrs bus connectivity from end to end. many times i travelled Thanjavur-Chennai by 2-3 buses(1 bus upto kumbakonam, 1 bus upto villuppuram or pondy, pondy-chennai). this came to 54 rs, whereas SETC ordinary was 69 rs(late 90s).
Thanjavur-bangalore too.(thanjavur-trichy, trichy-salem, salem-Bangalore)..quite cheaper than SETC,KSRTC.

தமிழக முதல்வர் சமீபத்தில் பல்வேறு வழித்தடங்களில் துவக்கிவைத்த அரசு பஸ்களை இயக்க, டிரைவர்கள் இல்லை. அரசு அறிவிப்பின்படி, பணியாளர்களை விரைந்து நியமித்தால் மட்டுமே, அவற்றை முழுமையாக இயக்க முடியும்.தமிழகத்தில் அரசு போக்குவரத்து கழகம் சார்பில், 19 ஆயிரத்து 507 பஸ்கள் இயக்கப்படுகின்றன. நாள்தோறும், இரண்டு கோடிக்கும் அதிகமான மக்கள் பயணிக்கின்றனர்.
மக்கள் தொகை வளர்ச்சிக்கு தக்கபடி, போக்குவரத்து கழகங்களுக்கு கூடுதல் புதிய பஸ்களையும், பழைய பஸ்களை சீரமைத்தும், அரசு வழங்கி வருகிறது. அ.தி.மு.க., ஆட்சி பொறுப்பேற்ற பின், பஸ் கட்டணம் அதிரடியாக உயர்த்தப்பட்டது. பொதுமக்கள் வசதிக்காக, கூடுதல் பஸ்கள் வழங்கவும் அரசு உத்தரவிட்டது.ஜூன் 19ம் தேதி, 304 புதிய பஸ்கள் மற்றும் 266 புனரமைக்கப்பட்ட பஸ்களை, சென்னையில் இருந்தபடி முதல்வர் ஜெயலலிதா இயக்கி வைத்தார். கோட்டம் வாரியாக, 21 பஸ்கள் முதல் அதிகபட்சமாக, 155 பஸ்கள் வரை வழங்கப்பட்டன. எனினும், அந்த பஸ்களை இயக்க டிரைவர்கள் இல்லாமல், போக்குவரத்து கழகங்கள், திக்கு முக்காடி வருகின்றன.ஏற்கனவே, அரசு போக்குவரத்துக் கழகங்களில், டிரைவர் பற்றாக்குறையால், மூன்று முதல், அதிகபட்சமாக, 10 பஸ்கள் வரை, டிப்போக்களில் நிறுத்தி வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

தவிர, தமிழகம் முழுவதுமாக, விபத்து வழக்குகளில் சிக்கி, நீதிமன்றங்களால் ஜப்தி செய்யப்பட்ட பஸ்கள், சமீபத்தில் போக்குவரத்து கழகத்தால் மீட்கப்பட்டன. இந்த பஸ்களின் டிரைவர்களே, கடந்த காலங்களில், பதிலி டிரைவர்களாக இருந்துள்ளனர். இப்போது, ஜப்தி பஸ்கள் மீட்கப்பட்டதால், டிரைவர், கண்டக்டர் தட்டுப்பாடு அதிகரித்துள்ளது. இப்பிரச்னையைப் போக்க, டிரைவர்களுக்கு கூடுதல் பணி வழங்கியும், விடுப்பு வழங்காமலும் சமாளிக்கப்படுகிறது.மாநிலம் முழுவதும், 560 புதிய பஸ்கள் வழங்கப்படுவதால் மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்த போக்குவரத்து கழகம், அவற்றை இயக்க போதிய டிரைவர், கண்டக்டர் இல்லாமல் தவிக்கிறது. இதனால், டிப்போக்களில் சராசரியாக, எட்டு முதல் பத்து பஸ்கள் இயக்கப்படாமல் வீணாக நிறுத்திவைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.முதல்வர் துவக்கிவைத்தார் என்பதால், பிரச்னை வராமல் இருக்க, ஏற்கனவே இயங்கிவந்த பஸ்களை டிப்போக்களில் நிறுத்திவிட்டு, அதன் டிரைவர், கண்டக்டர்களை கொண்டு, புதிய பஸ்களை இயக்கப்படுகின்றன.அரசு சமீபத்தில், "போக்குவரத்து கழகத்தில் உள்ள, 16 ஆயிரம் பணியிடங்கள் நிரப்பப்படும்' என, அறிவித்தது. இதன்படி, பணியாளர்களை விரைந்து நியமித்தால் மட்டுமே முழுமையாக பஸ்களை இயக்க முடியும்.

Acute shortage of drivers/ conductors (staff shortage) to operate the newly introduced buses. Also some buses taken by court were recently rescued by Tnstcs. So in most depots almost 10 buses are parked without operating them.

This pattern is followed for Ordinary bus and it also had Ordinary fare stickers. Paint finish is also good in this. Z type pattern is followed for Express buses and you can see that in Palani-CBE bus. I hope TNSTC-CBE will follow this for their buses consistently.

Nice catch. This is not bharathiyar region. This is from Tirupur region. This bus is operated by Palani-2 depot. An Ex- Erode region depot. They have 4 services dailty to Mysore(2 day and 2 night).

So many long distance buses introduced recently in srirangam. what kind of size and current status of Sri rangam bus stand?

There is no bus stand at present, The buses are departing in road leading to the rajagopuram, the buses then proceed to Trichy and then only continue to its destination, even Chennai Bus too i think. There is a proposal to built one which came recently.

Wow! 48 seater is replaced by 43 seater. TN 01 AN 0118 A brand new Nanjil of Nagercoil branch towards Chennai

The Name Nangil is a brand! Also looking at the liveries, each bus is having its own design, not an unique one with the curves being shorter and going in small radius its really bad, atleast this should have been maintained.

Some one asked whether the Volvos between Chennai and Trichy,Hosur Stoped i could not find the post, but today morning saw a Volvo Resting in a bay in Trichy Central Bus Stand, so the service is still continuing.

TN01 AN 0108 of Tirunelveli depot running in R.No 626 Coimbatore-Tirunelveli route. Earlier we had 2 UDs in this route and now we got 4 brand new 12M 43 Seater UDs. AN 0109 also running in Same route.

I think they should be running via Sempatti only. If it is BPR then it will be really good. Now 4 brand new buses are running in this 626UD route.

it will be continued until the executive volvo arrives.After that donno the status of that guy.Yesterday saw Chennai - Pondy (All Bye Pass) Volvo in CMBT bridge.This is the first time im seeing this guy.Its using Thindivanam route to reach Pondy.Whether VPM is plying a seperate VOLVO bus in GST to reach Pondy?Does anybody saw this Guy before in GST?

Thanks for the info Dhandapani Sir.They should use 2 guys as BPR and 2 Guys as ordinary.In the future they will be adding more SD from south due to 300km rule right so they can utilize as both BPR and Ordinary.

this bus will be allocated to ERODE-3 depot

If through Dharmapuri then it can go all the way to Krishnagiri, Kuppam and Chittor (like few Salem to Chittor, Tirupathi bus does)

If through Dharmapuri & Tirupathur, it can go all the way to Vellore and Chittor (all the buses go through this NH route including bus from Tirupathur to Tirupathi, Chittor)

Tirupathur - Ambur is NH
Ambur to Prenambattu & further to Gudiyatham and Chittor is SH and road is poor. There is no patronage in this section for lon distance buses. So most of the buses which originates from Gudiyattam has bbuffer time of 20-30 minutes at Vellore and even Gudiyattam to Bangaore bus goes through vellore at night...(38 Km up and down):nuts:

If Erode bus was routed through Vellore there would be decent patronage from Vellore to Dharmapuri/Erode.

he said that they are introducing this route becoz APSRTC is earning huge profits from these route.so they can try out this new route for getting more revenue wen volvo bus is introduced

Today I saw a surprise in Coimbatore SETC bus stand. It is Coimbatore Shenkottai 629UD as a brand new guy and this is the first time getting a new UD in this route. Bus No TN 01 AN 0145.

TFS! So this is the 5th brand new UD entering CBE from South. If it got a new pair, then it will be 6th in the row. Last saturday i saw old SD in the same route. Clicked it, it didnt come nice because i was in travel.

I hope 625 also gets a new one.

Friends,
1.all the new SETC are UD only? no SDs?
2. it looks some divisions does not have 4 lights in the front and use 2 lights only. why?
3. when most of the CBE corporation buses have black tainted glass in the rear, some of the mdu buses are not having.
4. even the SETC built by different builders are not uniform. can't be made it as "Standard"?

I don't understand why they built this bus. Stickers says NGL-Chennai but the SD ran this sector was 2011 model -It no need replacement.
What happend to all those SD's ran in Chennai route from Nagercoil, Kaliyakavilai?

Kollencode-Kaliakkavilai-Chennai route was operated by JCBL UD. SD buses ran in Thuckalay-Chennai and Nagercoil-Chennai route respectively

There is no officers in SETC/TNSTC as depot manager so far we have only Branch managers (used to call as BM)
What happened to the old 48 Seater Nanjil? Saw the same bus in Chennai on thursday.

That too running in NGL-Chennai route but without Nanjil sticker, as a normal Highway rider.
Nice to see that NGL depot replaced the bangalore route. Earlier it had a 48 seater UD.

TN 32 N 2976 from Malaikottai depot resting @ Chattiram Bus Stand. Trichy region will be losing its unique livery. Earlier it was red with yellow stripe. I think in 91 - 96 ADMK period, switched over to green, now maroon.

it will be continued until the executive volvo arrives.After that donno the status of that guy.Yesterday saw Chennai - Pondy (All Bye Pass) Volvo in CMBT bridge.This is the first time im seeing this guy.Its using Thindivanam route to reach Pondy.Whether VPM is plying a seperate VOLVO bus in GST to reach Pondy?Does anybody saw this Guy before in GST?

I don't understand why they built this bus. Stickers says NGL-Chennai but the SD ran this sector was 2011 model -It no need replacement.

They built this SD to run as additional service to Chennai? Or even they might have thought about running this SD to Coimbatore. :)

There is no officers in SETC/TNSTC as depot manager so far we have only Branch managers (used to call as BM)

Right. Even though we call it as depot, the managers are called as BM(Branch Manager).

Ok. They were beter maintained ones compared to SETC UDs. So they can still operate them in other routes.

For sure, it is built by Nellai divn, to be specific it is built by Nellai region itself. As arun mentioned, they built this bus for SD operation with Sliding type. Since all 300+KM buses are being transferred to SETC, they converted this to a regular 3X2 seater and running in Aranthangi route now.

Saw many new town bus routes only towards Srirangam Constituency areas. The village regions in the Srirangam Constituency have got good bus connectivity from different routes recently.

22 new bus routes for Tiruvarur

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa introduced 22 new bus routes for the district said R.Kamaraj, Food Minister, at Mathur and Vilathur villages in Valangaiman taluk on Sunday.

He flagged off two new bus routes – Tiruvarur-Papansam via Govindakudi, Aroor, Avalivanallur, Ammapettai, Needamangalam, Koradachery and another is from Kumbakonam to Kodavasal via Valangaiman, Amaravathi, Mathur, Kandiyur and Adavankudi.

He said that Tiruvarur is a rural district and people from villages will find the bus routes convenient.

On Saturday, he flagged off two new bus routes at Mannargudi.

One from Mannargudi to Thiruthuraipoondi via Orathur and Kalathur and the other from Mannargudi to Alankudi via Karnavur, Devangudi, Hanumanthapuram, Needamangalam and Alangudi.

District officials and panchayat union chairpersons participated in the meeting said a press release issued here on Monday.

* A new SETC 43 seater UD service has been started from Manachanalur to Chennai (A Taluk, even a sub-urb of Trichy), where it takes a small road from here to Samayapuram and further continues in NH 45 without touching Trichy. 4th destination From Trichy by SETC viz Trichy, BHEL, Srirangam.

* Today saw a bus in the route Rameshwaram-Samayapuram in Trichy around 8.30 am to Samayapuram, to see the origin i didnt notice other details, A long distance route from Samayapuram, a old bus was running so not introduced recently, Is this a new route or anyone noticed this earlier.

* Also saw a Trichy-Coimbatore bus of Trichy Puranagar Depot with Reg. No. TN 45 N 3426, so in the next innaugral TN 45 to touch 3500 mark, Next to TN 1 and 32 this would be the one to touch this.(correct me if wrong)

Kollencode-Kaliakkavilai-Chennai route was operated by JCBL UD. SD buses ran in Thuckalay-Chennai and Nagercoil-Chennai route respectively

There is no officers in SETC/TNSTC as depot manager so far we have only Branch managers (used to call as BM)

That too running in NGL-Chennai route but without Nanjil sticker, as a normal Highway rider.

It replaced 4:00 PM 36 seater bus. 48 seater also running in this route

One of forumer (i forgot his name and cant find the post) said that SETC started a new service to a place which starts in "N" which is near Aranthangi, The name of that place is Nakudi which is near to Aranthangi.Yesterday saw that guy in CMBT at 8.30.

TN01 AN 0137.. A new 12M UD built by Irizar TVS belonging to Sencottah depot. It is running in R.No 184 Chennai-Sencottah route. They should have alotted this guy to Madurai depot for running in R.No 137 Madurai-Chennai route. :(

So finally the 'N' in the registration number TN-01 has given way to 'AN' after completing the quota of 9999 numbers. I guess it stands for 'ANna' :)

Bangalore BMTC continued with 'FA' after its 'F' series got over but now it has created a separate number - KA 57F - for buses alone. Mumbai's BEST had 'L' and 'H' making way to 'LA' but now they have created MH-01AP as exclusive registration series for the BEST buses.

I dont see anything, still Thuvakkudi depot buses are less. But Currently four depots are operating city buses viz and directions

Dheeran Nagar - S,SW
Malaikkotai - W,NW
Thuvakkudi - E,SE
Lalgudi - N,NESorry for not being very clear in my earlier post. I meant to say about routes like 26, 128 towards Tiruverumbur which are currently being taken care by Thuvakkudi itself. Pls correct me if I'm wrong.

* A new SETC 43 seater UD service has been started from Manachanalur to Chennai (A Taluk, even a sub-urb of Trichy), where it takes a small road from here to Samayapuram and further continues in NH 45 without touching Trichy. 4th destination From Trichy by SETC viz Trichy, BHEL, Srirangam.
My sister-in-law told a guy starts to Chennai from Manachanallur by 8:50 PM. I was thinking it could be one of Thuraiyur depot guys moving to Chennai via Trichy. They could have routed it via Toll gate, Samayapuram rather than the small road leading to Samayapuram. Would help in patronage perspective also for a 43 seater.

Spotted TN 45 N 2487(?) & TN 45 N 2087 in routes 3 & 3A in Thuraiyur - Samayapuram via Illupaiyur, Thinnanur, Manachanallur. I didn't see any difference in route while the route numbers are different. Are these the new routes inaugurated or these are old ones?

Thanks for the coverage on trichy buses. Looks like they extended one Trichy-TVM guy to Sri Rangam. :) At what time you clicked this bus?Around 11 PM.

தமிழ்நாடு அரசு விரைவு போக்குவரத்துக் கழகத்துக்கு தொடர்ந்து அல்ட்ரா டீலக்ஸ் பஸ்களாக வழங்கப்பட்டு வந்த போதிலும், அவற்றின் பயண நேரத்தில் எவ்வித மாற்றமும் செய்யப்பட வில்லை. அது மட்டுமின்றி பாடாவதி பஸ்கள் தொடர்ந்து இயக்கப்பட்டு வருவதால், பயணிகள் கடும் அவஸ்தையை சந்தித்து வருகின்றனர்.

சென்னையை தலைமை இடமாக கொண்டு செயல்படும், தமிழக விரைவு போக்குவரத்துக் கழகத்துக்கு, தமிழகம் முழுவதும், 23 டெப்போக்கள் செயல்படுகின்றன. குளிர்சாதன வசதி கொண்ட பஸ்கள், அல்ட்ரா டீலக்ஸ், சூப்பர் டீலக்ஸ் பஸ்கள் என, மொத்தம் 885 பஸ்கள் இயக்கப்பட்டு வந்தது.

டீலக்ஸ் பஸ்கள்:ஆட்சி மாற்றத்துக்கு பின் முதல் தவணையாக, 55 புதிய அல்ட்ரா டீலக்ஸ் பஸ்கள் வழங்கப்பட்டன. அதை தொடர்ந்து கடந்த வாரம், 155 புதிய பஸ்கள், 22 மறு சீரமைப்பு செய்யப்பட்ட பஸ்கள் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. பெரும்பாலான டெப்போக்களில் சூப்பர் டீலக்ஸ் பெயரில் இயக்கப்பட்டு வந்த, லக்சரி கோச் பஸ்கள் அனைத்தும் ஓரங்கட்டப்பட்டு விட்டன.தற்போது அரசு விரைவுப் போக்குவரத்துக் கழகத்தில் நல்ல நிலையில் இயங்கக் கூடிய, 1,070 அல்ட்ரா டீலக்ஸ் பஸ்கள் உள்ளன. இவற்றில், 35 சதவீத பஸ்கள் அனைத்தும் புதிய பஸ்கள். பழைய பாடாவதி பஸ்களுக்கு மாற்றாக இந்த புதிய பஸ்கள் தற்போது இயக்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றன.இதில் பெரும்பாலான பஸ்கள், நான்கு வழிச் சாலைகளிலேயே இயக்கப்படுகின்றன. அப்படி இருந்தும் அவற்றின் பயண நேரங்களில் எவ்வித மாற்றமும் செய்யப்பட வில்லை. மேலும், புதிய பஸ்கள் இயங்கும் வழித்தடங்களில், பழைய பாடாவதி பஸ்கள் தொடர்ந்து இயக்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றன.

பயணநேரம்:நான்கு வழிச்சாலை பயன் பாட்டுக்கு வருவதற்கு முன், கோவை, ஈரோடு, திருப்பூர், திருச்சி, சென்னை, திருச்சி, சேலம், ஆகிய இடங்களில் இருந்து திருநெல்வேலிக்கு, ஒன்பது மணி நேரமாகவும், நாகர்கோவிலுக்கு, பத்து மணி நேரமாகவும் பயண நேரம் கடை பிடிக்கப்பட்டது.நான்கு வழிச்சாலை பயன் பாட்டுக்கு வந்த நிலையிலும், விரைவுப் போக்குவரத்துக் கழகத்துக்கு, புதிய பஸ்கள் வழங்கப்பட்டு, அவை இயக்கத்தில் உள்ள நிலையில், அதே பயண நேரமே நீடிக்கிறது. இந்த பயண நேரத்தை டிரைவர், கண்டக்டர்கள் குறைத்துக் கொள்ளாத படி பஸ்களின் இன்ஜின், 60 கி.மீ.,க்கு மேல் செல்லாதபடி சீல் வைக்கப்பட்டு விட்டதாக டிரைவர், கண்டக்டர்கள் குற்றம் சாட்டுகின்றனர்.இத்தகைய பஸ்கள் திருமண நாள், விசேஷ தினங்களில் அதிக அளவில் இயக்கப்படுகின்றன. ஆனால், அவற்றின் பராமரிப்பு சொல்லிக் கொள்ளும் படி இல்லாததால், அவை நடுவழியில் பழுதாவது தொடர்கிறது. இதனால் குறிப்பிட்ட நேரத்தில் பயண தூரத்தை சென்றடைய முடியாமல், பயணிகள் மிகுந்த சிரமத்தை சந்தித்து வருகின்றனர்.

சேலம், ஈரோடுக்கு புதிய பஸ்கள் "அம்போ' :விரைவுப் போக்குவரத்துக் கழகத்துக்கு, ஆறு மாத காலத்துக்குள், இது வரை, 210 புதிய பஸ்கள், 60 மறு சீரமைப்பு செய்யப்பட்ட பஸ்கள் என மொத்தம், 270 பஸ்கள் வழங்கப்பட்டு விட்டன. இந்த பஸ்கள் அனைத்தும் தேவையான வழித்தடங்களுக்கும் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.திருநெல்வேலியில் இருந்து ஈரோடு, சேலத்துக்கு இயக்கப்படும் பஸ்களுக்கு மாற்றாக புதிய பஸ்கள் எதுவும் வழங்கப்பட வில்லை. இரண்டு வழித்தடங்களில் இயக்கப்படும் பஸ்கள், திருநெல்வேலி கிளையில் இருந்தே இயக்கப்படுகின்றன. இந்த வழித்தடங்களில் தொடர்ந்து பழைய பாடாவதி பஸ்களே இயக்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றன. இதில் பயணிக்கும் பயணிகளும் மிகுந்த சிரமத்தை தொடர்ந்து சந்தித்து வருகின்றனர்.
