To manufacture you obviously need steel etc and materials to make things.
I was wondering what resources Ethiopia has to produce steel? not many I dont think.
How about Ethiopia importing minerals from neighbouring countries and refining them and producing steel etc and becoming rich like that through re exporting? just an idea. then it could REALLY start making the ABAY car (as in actually producing hundereds of thousands of units a year) and bicycles and tvs etc

This is actualy the ideal situation...But the world order has changed badly against Africa....China has specialized so much in manufacturing that steel production cannot be economical elsewhere. You may need $5 Billion to set up a steel plant and power it. Do u have the market locally for the steel?
As a case point...even the Most advanced economy is the world, the U.S has found itself in unfarmiliar terriotory. Americans were recently alarmed to learn that their steel plants shut down and they are now exporting raw materials for steel to China and importing finished goods like 3rd world countries.
So..the world economy has reasly changed.

G7,G8 Most developed, most industrialized Nations.
Rails, Bridges, Tunnels, Mining, skyspcarers, Industrial Buildings, Smelters, Planes, Cars,Cranes , Trains, Weapons( defence industries). Mechanized Agroculture.
So no Steel you will not be INDUSTRIALIZED or DEVELOPED.

In the late 1980s, prospectors identified iron ore deposits estimated at 20 million tons in the Agametta region (near Mitsiwa) and another 160,000,000 tons of iron ore in Welega and Bale.
And we know relatively little still.

And we know relatively little still.
True.
It amazes at how still little is known about the natural resources in the country. We have to know our own land before we project outward (excluding Asseb/Danakil which cannot wait).
